Okay, Dolphin support is of no use, so I'm wondering if anyone else has this problem: If Dolphin Jetpack is turned off, Dolphin fails to save cookies after the current session (once the app is swiped away, of course). Repeatable on different settings, and all of the relevant privacy/data/cache settings were checked and re-checked.
I'm thinking that WebView (using Chromium) may be the issue, since JetPack does not exhibit the same symptoms as its Dolphin's own renderer. My Nexus 4 doesn't have this issue either, since it still has the default Android Browser built in (which the Moto X does not).
So, for those of you still reading, does this happen to your phone/Dolphin as well?
Why turn Jetpack off is my question?

Hi, I always keep jetpack on as it is such an important part of Dolphin. But I haven't faced such kind of problem yet. To dig into this, maybe you can send an email to their support team([email protected]) for help.

The browser in JI6 feels extremely laggy compared to the browser in previous firmwares. Scrolling is sometimes unusually choppy and going to the bookmarks page often takes a second. You might even see your home screen reload after browsing some heavy pages and then pressing the home button.
I started wondering if there was a memory leak in the browser, so I navigated to some pages that seem really laggy in the JI6 browser and checked the task manager. Sure enough, the browser is using 90-100MB of RAM at times and forcing other apps out of memory. If you want to try it for yourself, browse pocketnow.com (really laggy), engadget, or android central for a minute and then open up the task manager and take a look.
In an effort to figure out what was causing this, I have disabled plug-ins, uninstalled Flash 10.1, cleared caches, disabled javascript, and changed several other settings. While slightly less laggy, none of that has fixed the problem.
To make matters worse, I just received a notification warning me that database storage is low. I started browsing around and found a ~90MB file in /dbdata/databases/com.android.browser/app_thumbnails/ that comes back very quickly after I delete it. Not sure if that's the file causing the database storage to fill up or not, but it seems suspicious.
Also worth noting is that when pressing the back button in the browser it loads the previous pages instantly, almost like it keeps previous pages in memory. It wasn't like that in the browser from older firmwares. Wondering if that's what's causing the insane memory usage and lag.
Update
Looks like this is a known (by the community at least) bug that's also present in recent Froyo leaks for the i9000.
It seems to be a system level bug as it affects some other browsers like Dolphin as well.
I've noticed the same thing, but I kind of expect some aspects of the ROM to have debugging and/or logging turned on seeing as this is a leaked build.
Give it time and I'm sure someone will get this sorted out.

Asking the i9000 guys if their browser has stupid high memory usage in Froyo as well...

BAD news. Seems this is a bug affecting i9000 Froyo builds as well...

I can confirm that the browser in all the recent 2.2 leaks has some serious random memory issues causing close of almost all background apps and becoming very laggy and choppy.
Seems like either a serious memory leak or some other memory management issues.
This is not related to flash 10.1 at all as when i disable flash this still happens.

Would using a third party browser be any different? Gonna try out Dolphin or Skyfire in a bit once I get cog2.2 running.
So I guess the recently leaked (thanks to DesignGears and source) build is no newer than the previously leaked i9000 builds. Can only hope Samsung clears this up before official release.

Dolphin has the same problem so the bug must be in memory management or some kind of framework that both browsers use. Haven't tried Skyfire.
I am using Dolphin Browser HD and it does not seem to clear the memory issues.
Uses 145!! MB on the full pocketnow.com site before eventually FC'ing.
That's pretty rediculous.
I also ran into an issue where a pop up would say "No Internet Connection" and would ask me if I want to retry or ignore it, but if i didn't choose any option, the page would still load. Very annoying. This only happened to me while I was on 3G. Didn't try on wifi though. Anyone else run into this problem?

Yes, and it's very annoying. Somewhat unpredictable too. That and my cell data has been cutting out a lot for no reason, regardless of signal strength.
As far as I can tell, all the standard at&t radios suck. Can't wait to get a HSUPA radio & kernel running again. Faster speeds, and for me, better reception. Almost makes me want to go back to 2.1.
OOPS! I tried replacing libwebcore.so with the one from the G2 in an attempt to get to the bottom of this. Can you say boot loop? LOL, time to reflash and try something else. Don't worry, I have a better idea this time.
I noticed this as well and mentioned it in DG's thread. I noticed that the image quality is much higher than on 2.1 and the browser becomes especially choppy on pages with a lot of images on them. Definitely not flash-related.

[HOW TO] Fix browser lag in JI6 Froyo
Hello,
the stock firmware of my GT 7300 showed some strange behaviour when it came to multi-touch zooming in web-browsers (I tried stock browser, Dolphin HD and Opera):
When doing pinch-to-zoom, there was initially a small lag until the actual resize happened, kind of "the tablet needs some time to recognize that it should start zoom-mode" (I think it was the time between the text turned from sharp to blurry). When I would keep my fingers on the screen after "zoom-mode enabled" and resize up and down, the resizing itself was very smooth, immediately following my fingers.
After installing Overcome ROM, the lag completely went away (tested in stock browser and Dolphin HD). However, yesterday it came back, again for both browsers. The only thing I'm aware of having changed was playing with keyboard apps.
Today I tried reflashing Overcome, which didn't help, and then reflashing Overcome with data wipe, which DID help- the lag is gone again. Because this gives a pointer to some configuration affecting the behaviour, I've backuped system data so I can go back to that state, and hopefully figure out the difference in the configuration when the lag comes back.
What I'm really surprised about is that I couldn't find any reports about such a behaviour, neither on xda-developers nor via googling. Am I the only one who has/had that problem? Is anyone out there that know about this issue and possibly knows the configuration setting that affects the behaviour?
Regards,
labosch
I finally got it!
It's the "tilt zoom" feature that causes the lag. If you disable it in the system preferences, pinch-to-zoom in browsers works fine!
Sammy gimmicks...gotta trust 'em, huh.

The standard thread question...
I didn't see any prior topics about this. I use the CM9 nightlies.
I've tried the following:
Browser (I haven't really used this much)
Chrome (I get a lot of crashes when I scroll quickly on sites with heavy coding)
Dolphin (Don't like how the address bar disappears when scrolling down)
Dolphin Mini (I like how the address bar stays, but this browser has limited features)
Opera HD (Meh)
Maxthon (Everyone says to use this one. While it's nice, I've found that you can't really open a lot of tabs with this browser without it crashing and/or freezing.)
What do you guys use? What should I try?
It doesn't look like you have tried Firefox, so that might be worth a go. It is a very personal choice, but I have stuck with the ICS browser for most use (also have Chrome, Dolphin and Firefox installed).
Dolphin. It's fast and fullscreen. I would've used Chrome (i like the sync with Google account), but it's laggy and adress bar and tabs are unhideable.
For now, I'm using ICS Browser+.
I have most of the ones mentioned installed, but use ICS Browser+ most of the time.
I've just been using the standard browser. It allows a desktop user agent, supports flash, has tabs and is pretty stable which is all i need.

I think opera mobile its more stable browser
I myself haven't found any reason to switch from the stock browser. I love the quick controls.
I like Dolphin HD for all my Andorid decices. I like having multipe tabs open.
*EDIT*scratch that, after a few days.of ok browsing with Dolphin HD, I can't even get it open without crashing. It's constantly asking me to send an error report. Gonna try uninstalling and reinstalling and see what happens.

The new Firefox is probably the fastest browser on android.
I still use the Firefox Nightlies because I like the gestures for closing tabs.

One thing about Dolphin's address bar disappearing when browsing, you can change the setting so its always showing.

I've got an ATT moto X running 4.4.
Chrome crashes multiple times per day. Typically i can simply open it up again and it's right where i left it, but it's quite annoying.
Just curious if others are having similar issues as I've not seen it mentioned by others here.
I've tried uninstalling, clearing cache, etc. Davlik or ART seems to make no difference.
I was just about to ask the same thing. Chrome stable force closes randomly, usually after browsing for a while. I have the same configuration (ATT Moto X, stock unrooted 4.4).
I also get a lot of force closes using the Amazon android app. The stack trace mentions the chromiumwebview library. Probably not related as Chrome ships with its own rendering engine, but I've only seen these issues on the Moto X. Doesn't happen on my Galaxy Nexus or Nexus 5.
So far I've learned to live with it. If it gets too annoying I'll probably try to flash the stock image. Hopefully that will overwrite any possibly corrupted / conflicting files.
Not me, cause I froze it as soon as I rooted my phone. In my opinion...chrome it's just awful.

Chrome does have issues. It almost seems as if it's meant for something more powerful. Lag in scrolling is the biggest issue I run in to.
That said sync with chrome on the desktop is something really hard to lose with another browser. I know you can kind of get AOSP browser and dolphin to kind of do the same thing, but it's not the same.
I've got unrooted 4.4 and this started happening a few days ago. I'm running a live wallpaper which, after chrome crashes, it crashes as well. I was unsure of the cause but now that I'm hearing more people are having a similar issue I think it's chrome. My solution is to use a different browser.

I've done that several times. Granted it's a system app, so i can only uninstall the updates.
Dolphin is a fine browser, but without integration with google it's more of a pain that it's worth.

The reviews mention problems but most are vague. I did notice that if you look at moto x reviews for chrome, especially around and after the time of the kitkat update very few of them are glowing or even good.
This usually occurs when I attempt to open a new tab. The animation for opening the tab will stutter, then crash a few seconds later. I have tried uninstalling chrome multiple times, but I have not had success.
I've noticed this when I newly open the app and start typing right away. Tried clearing cache for chrome but still persists..

I've noticed in regular chrome and chrome beta, but not in chrome dev.
Been running it a week and it hasn't happened once. Happened daily with the others.
I was having the same issue for a while, particularly when opening and starting to type right away (using Swiftkey if that matters). Cleared data on Chrome, and so far so good, but it's only been a day or two.
Yes clearing data keeps it running fine for a while..then its back

I'm also using SwiftKey. Have any of you filed a bug to Google?
I don't use SwiftKey and the same thing happens.
I've noticed this when I newly open the app and start typing right away.
Same here, very odd. I'll try the dev version and see what happens.
I too experience Chrome crashing on loading (i.e., tap on Chrome, Chrome loads up, then crashes immediately prior to opening up a new tab to start surfing a website). My S6 has Android 5.02, G920AUCU1AOE2 baseband, still affected on CleanROM 1.1-OE2, with Chrome 42.0.2311.111.
Same behavior here, sporadic crashes. Using TouchPal, but have swiftkey installed. Will try dev version.
Switched to Samsung's browser myself. Uses less resources (I think that's why chrome is crashing) and is as fast as the iPhone's safari browser.
Again - no crashes on Chrome Dev. Not once and I've been running it over a week.
Is this happening only for the bloated AT&T version? Man I hate this random crashing... I really shouldn't have got the AT&T version.
I have AOE2 version ROM, and latest Chrome browser.
I don't think the keyboard matters. I'm using Google Korean Keyboard.
Same situation even after the latest update from att.
I'm using chrome dev, no issues crashing any longer
