Why do I have to press and hold the power button to turn the screen on after/during a phone call? It's been driving me crazy for months. Its almost as if the proximity sensor is bad or something, how do I test it?

You have 2 options:
1. Go to Settings > Device > Call Settings > Turn off screen during calls and your screen won't go off anymore during the calls.
2. For test it -> Go to your dialer and type in *#0*#. Then click on the option for sensor and it will tell you how to test the proximity sensor.

Hi! I'm back with kaiser and have a question. When you calling someone and listening to long tones waiting for answer screen is not locked. You can manually push power button to turn screen off, but it is not very handy. Is there an app to lock and turn off screen (=sleep) RIGHT after you pressed green button and dialer start dialing and connecting? I'm asking because fast sleep during call only activates after connection has been made...
you actually want a different dialer.. Check out the dialer used on the ROM I run, it had a slider function...
Hi Guys,
While im on call my phone puts my caller on HOLD.
It happens when my face touch the screen and presses the hold button.
I then need to repress unhold button to get back my caller.
Any ideas to how to disable the hold button so it stops happening?
I have a rooted nexus one with cyanogen 5.0.4.1
Thanks in advance.
Sounds like your proximity sensor isn't working...

Hi all,
This has happened to me twice now and I can't figure out how to fix this.
When you make a call you have your standard options on your screen such as mute, speaker, numbers etc. However after a few minutes the screen naturally turns off and there is no way to turn it back on again without having to press the Sleep button.
The reason why this is a problem is if you want to enable/disable mute, speakerphone or you need to input a number as in my case i was on hold for a long time to a call centre.
I tried to press the back button as well as home, but both did nothing and finally the volume buttons but that didn't activate the screen. The only button you can press is the Sleep button but that will end the call.
Any thoughts?
Thanks
When you are on the phone, the screen should turn off when the phone is near your ear, pretty much immediately, and come back on soon after you take it away. Unless you are using speaker phone of course.
Perhaps a problem with your proximity sensor?
The sleep button only ends the call if you set it too.

When I am on a call (incoming or outgoing) and the screen sleeps afrer the sleep timeout, how can I get the in-call controls like speakerphone, mute button, number pad back?! Moving the phonea around to trigger the proximity sensor doesn't work, clicking the power button ends the call. What am I missing? This is extremely frustrating when on a long conference call where I need to mute and unmute.
Help? Thanks

Frankly, I usually have my phone to sleep after 30 minutes because I always shut off the screen with the power button, so there's that option.
When I'm on a phone call the screen turns off. This messes me up if I have the mute button or speaker phone (accidentally) enabled. When the other party picks up or asks something I'm unable to get the screen back quick enough and they assume the line dropped. This is really annoying. I use the power button on the phone to hang up so pressing it wouldn't work. How can I fix this problem? The easiest way I can think of is if there's an option to just not have the screen turn off?
When this happens I try tapping on the screen but it usually just comes back momentarily before I can unmute.
