So this is just a inquiry. I keep my phone in my back pocket. Left side.
I'm curious as to see who keeps their phone behind them. Or if they use the front, or holsters.
Reason why I'm asking will be told after.

I keep in front pocket on shirt. So I would know where it is at all times without the worry of damaging it.
Front pocket

I prefer mine in my front pocket, right side (i keep pens, pencils, and markers for work in my left) and i prefer the screen facing my leg so that it lays more flat. I move around too much to keep it in the back
I always use a holster. Frees up a fair bit of pocket space.

Well dang. Seems like everyone uses the fronts. I've kept my phone in my back pocket for the past 3 years. And now I'm trying to make the change back. Mainly because I took my phone out an placed it face down so my screen doesn't flash it's active screen. And I noticed the phone teetered on opposite corners. Basically my phone twisted.
Yeah front right for me too. I've seen FAR too many phones that have had their screens broken from being in back pockets to ever put it in my back pocket.
I hadn't really considered phones bending or deforming from it until the iPhone 6 Plus, but that's another good reason. It is certainly possible with any phone, but especially larger phones with aluminum frames.

Have laid your phone face down to see if it lies flat?
Back left with screen facing inwards since the day I got it. No deformation on this phone or any other phone I've had and carried like this. I do my best not to sit down on it, however.

This one looks interesting. It looks like it wraps all the way around the side of the phone, and slides apart on the back to open. This might keep from having the issue of jamming the screen cover in between the slider mechanism.
Has anyone ever used this brand? I'm curious if it is worth it.

I am definitely interested in this too, I used to have a slider case for my touch pro that worked very well, but it was a side slider. I'm curious how that wrap around would mess with how you hold your phone though

What do they mean by the "sliding mechanism is on the back of the handset rather than the front or sides"?
Well I haven't actually seen the case in person, but I'm guessing its similar to my old case for my tp in that I didn't clip to the phone. You would put the bottom on, then the top by sliding the pieces together into their slides. This held it on the phone and made for no pulling apart the phone by the clips being in between the two halves. I've really been surprised that design didn't catch on a lot better then it did. I loved it!

sounds intriguing id like to hear if someone gets this and what they think

I just got it. It feels really good. It feels as though it should cost more money. It makes the phone fit better in my hands. Feels a lot sturdier as well. Once I get a hold of another camera I can take some pictures.

I am highly debating getting this, I already have the max coverage invisible shield on my phone, but I would feel better if it had some rubber surrounding it. But I want to hear real world reviews before I jump.
This case isn't rubber. It feels like a hard plastic that is slightly rubbery. Feels VERY similar to the back of the evo shift 4g(without the case of course)

I got mine today. But its loose at the top right of my phone. Its like it doesn't fit all the way. So I'm going to return it and patienly wait for another one.
Sent from my PG06100 using XDA App
How does it attach to the phone? Does it actually clip to it, or do the two pieces of case hold to each other? I have a few extra batteries and I want to be able to pop off the back easily, and that usually breaks the tabbed ones. So if this holds on like I think it does, it's perfect for me. How does it feel protective wise? Like are you pretty confident it will protect the phone? or does it still leave a wavering feeling like I better never drop this thing or it's shot? lol

Mine is starting to get like that too. It doesn't bother me too much though.
@unityjasont: The two sides are independent from each other. The backpiece clips onto the rear part of your phone and the top piece onto the screen/slider portion. Then you match them up so that they are on the track. It feels very solid to me. I've actually dropped my phone twice since I got this case. Just scuffed up the case a little bit and I rubbed off the scratch easily each time. It's pretty easy to pop off the backpiece. It doesn't feel as though it's going to break. I also forgot to mention that the camera, flash, and volume rocker are now recessed. So there's no worrying about scratching the camera lens, and there's a lot less accidental volume key pressing.
I took some pictures as well as a video with my macbook's crappy camera.

glad your happy
Sorry, I just don't get the piece that slides up with the screen. Seems kind of strange and in the way.
Is there a point to this thing?
So yesterday I nearly destroyed my phone by placing it on my leather wallet. After doing so, I went to the kitchen and after around ten minutes I heard a loud noise of something smashing on the ground. It was my N4 that slowly slipped from my wallet. Luckily, it just hit the chair and not the ground and I only have a minor scratch in the metal bezel. After some testing I found that the glass back is stupidly slippery. It even starts to slide when the surface has quite a lot of grip. I think this is due to the coating of the glass. Funny enough, it feels really nonslip and safe holding it in the hand. So be careful where you place your phone!

Yeah, I Put a case on mine.
Why the hell is Google putting glass on the back is beyond me. I guess none of them own an Iphone 4/4S or never heard of constant broken back glass from it. This is one slippery phone and a finger print magnet.
My iPhone 4S has slipped quite a few ties doing exactly that- sitting on my leather wallet. Luckily, I havent managed to crack it. I hope the Nexus 4 has a strong back.
Bummer... I have to get a case soon.
I put mine on my desk to charge, and the weight of the USB cable was enough to make the phone slither off the desk like a snake. Happened twice actually, I blamed the cats the first time. This phone is too smooth
Until you get a case or if you do not want to get a case then you could go to walmart, target or home depot etc. and get some of the small round rubber feet they put on boxes and vases to keep them from scratching tables and stick one in each corner of the back. They will keep the phone from sliding and help the speaker from getting so muffled when laying flat.

The glue used on those things like to slip, especially if they become warm like with the body temperature the phone will reach in someone's pocket. And then that glue leaves behind residue along the slippage path.

Something for people to try:
See if you can keep the phone from sliding holding onto only the glass. So put your thumb on one side and your fingers on the other and pinch then hold the phone up vertical. Squeeze as hard as you want (but dont break the LCD), I bet nobody can keep the phone from slowly sliding down no matter how hard they try. I recommend holding it near the Nexus logo so you can see it move since it will be sliding very very slowly. Try both hands.
Ive noticed that this thing simply sticks to NOTHING, this Gorilla Glass 2 surface is very slippery and I wish they would have gone for something more grippy on the back since my phone has slid off things that are virtually flat a few times already. It seems like any amount of gravity will cause this thing to slide.

Yeah, the iPhone 4 and 4S had this problem too. If you went naked they would slide off anything and everything, even things you thought were flat. Hopefully invisible shield comes out with a back protector. I hate Invisible shields on the front because they're slightly tacky, but for the back it would be great at protecting and preventing the phone from sliding.
Isn't the glass suppose to be slippery? You want your finger to glide across it easily while using the phone. Not sure what the issue is, who grips their phone this way? If you do, stop it.
Not having any issue gripping the phone this way. On the other hand I have noticed the phone being susceptible to "death grip".
Yeah I've found on numerous occasions where I would set my phone down on what I THOUGHT was a flat surface, walk away and come back only to find my phone on the floor. This thing I'd crazy slippery. I'm picking up a bumper from someone off Craigslist tonight for a good deal and am hoping it will help at least a little.

What's the death grip on the N4?
From iFixit's tear down they show contact points of the antennas in the upper third of the back plate. But they never took the back apart to see where the leads go. Is the death grip the top half of the phone? If so that's good, because with the size of the N4 people will most likely grip it along the bottom half and along the bottom edge.
I called it an issue, but I actually like it slippery in the back.
I totally love the feel of the phone. I just thought it was crazy how it would just slide off of seemingly flat surfaces. I had my closed laptop sitting on the dining room table, phone on top of the laptop. Walked away for a few minutes and came back to find the phone on the floor. Instantly blamed my wife. Lol.

I when I hold the phone 2 handed (eg when surfing the web) the bars drop dramatically and in places with weak signal just holding the phone (bottom half one handed like for a phone call) I'll completely lose signal. Actually I'd say in general, compared to my HD2 and Sensation the signal strength is poor on this phone.

x2. I am waiting it out to do more testing and see what happens with updates but I have also noticed the dramatic signal loss depending on how you hold the phone. At my house I consistantly get 2-3 bars on my Lumia 920 (and did on my S3, Note, etc). With the N4 I get 3 occasionally, but most of the tiem if I am holding the phone its at 1 bar, and if I hold it in certain ways loses signal all together.

Hardly. All I said was that it uses the same glass as pretty much every other recent phone. So if you have an issue with the quality, then that issue is with the gorilla glass, rather than the phone.
And of course some phones will shatter from small falls, that's fairly obvious.
Merry christmas!

I interpreted it as him attempting to say that he wanted to get hold of a box that was on a conveyor belt, so he lent across to reach it. It seems that when leaning over, he pushed too much of his weight on the phone, which would have been caught on the edge of the conveyor belt.

At this point in the game, pretty much every smartphone has a screen with essentially the exact same degree of durability. They're all using Gorilla glass or some equivalent. If your screen cracks, it's because of what happened to the phone. I guarantee you that any other phone would have broken in the exact same way under your circumstances.
It'll be interesting to see how sapphire screens hold up when those are mainstream in a few years.
Chalk me up as another that don't know how they cracked their screen. Mine has 1 small crack at the upper left corner and a medium one at the lower right corner, fortunately neither cross over the screen or where I'd touch. First time I've cracked a screen and don't know how it occurred thought it was just a long hair that got caught in the case at first.
I know the OP isn't the first here to have this problem. There was a few threads where people just put the phone in their pocket and pulled it out later and it was cracked. They couldn't remember anything specific that would have broken it. Also if I'm not mistaken doesn't gorilla glass just stand up better to scratches? From what I understood, it's not stronger than normal when it comes to cracks, just scratches. Which I can vouch for. Spent the whole day at work with my phone and keys in the same pocket. No scratches and even more lucky, no cracks!
Sorry to hear about your N5 though That's rough man, I would die a little on the inside.
IIFC gorilla glass is a bit more flexible when it comes to bending so it would resist cracking there a bit more than regular glass.
My Nexus 6 from Sprint was just delivered. I quickly opened the box and removed the plastic screen cover. I then started to pick a little at one of the speaker grills to make sure there wasn't some plastic on them and it popped out! I quickly put it back in place and it seems to be staying though I'm afraid to pick at it again to see just how well it is in there.
Did I just break my new phone or are removable speaker grills a feature? Perhaps for cleaning out the speaker hole and such?

Yes, the speakers work great. The grills aren't actually grills they're solid pieces of plastic. So, I presume they need to be somewhat loosely installed in the speaker hole to allow air to pass through. I didn't get a good look but it didn't appear as though I'd broken any plastic hooks or anything.

Sounds like it just pops in to secure it in place. I wouldn't worry about it, you do have a full warranty if you ever have a problem.
Well, put the phone in my pocket today and the same speaker grill came off. Looks like I broke it. I'm going to try and get the phone replaced under warranty. Failing that it probably wouldn't be too hard to superglue it back in.
youngm
I never thought of applying superglue on a"high end" device.
I believe the grill design was made to direct the sound waves and also used to not allow the screen to touch the surface it was resting on

Mine is still loose. It's been this way forever now. It hasn't fallen off though! I dunno, at this point I'm just keeping it I guess, and if it falls off eventually, I'll glue it back on. At least my back didn't peel off and bend like some did.

I don't really get much in the way of dust in the N6 grills. I can usually blow it out with just my own breath.
My Nexus 4 was TERRIBLE about that though. The speaker grill on that thing always looked gross.

I use little tiny brush to clean my speaker grills out. I think the brush is from a cleaning kit I bought for RC cars.
