Found these in /system/media
It looks like there are two .mp4 files in there, but i'm not entirely sure about their codec as it looked funky on my system. The first looks like the actual animation, and the second is the loop that continues until the phone is booted. I don't know what the purpose of the "-encrypted.zip" is except maybe if your phone is encrypted?

Nook Color preset for Handbrake

I created a preset in handbrake for the nook color. I've used it for several videos and they've all worked really well.
I'm not sure how to export the presets exactly. what I've done is copy my user_presets.xml file and rename it to nook_preset.txt (forums won't let me upload an xml file.)
It's the only preset in the file, so you should be able to add the preset node to your existing user_presets.xml or replace the file completely if you haven't defined any yourself.
Here's a step by step:
1) locate your presets file (this link handbrake presets will help you.)
2) rename it from user_presets.xml to user_presets.xml.bak
3) copy one of my attached files (use 0.9.5 for the latest version of handbrake) to the same directory
4) rename it to user_presets.xml
If you had any presets already, this will remove them. If you want them back, just copy them from user_presets.xml.bak into the new user_presets.xml.
UPDATE: The above instructions are not necessary. The newest version of Handbrake includes an import option under the presets menu. I've attached a zip file that contains the nook.plist file to import. This should work on all platforms.
UPDATE 1/9/2011: Added revised preset for Handbrake version 0.9.5
UPDATE 1/10/2011: Added step-by-step instructions.
UPDATE 2/9/2011: Added a plist file.
UPDATE 2/27/2011: New nook.zip - Added resolution and aspect ratio settings to the plist file

Can you list some of the changes that you used. I'd like to compare. Thx.
I used the regular ipod setting, but I changed the resolution to 854x480. I turned off all video processing, and set the audio to 48 bit / 128kbps aac.
UPDATE: I forgot that I also changed the video bitrate. Upping it to 1100 instead of 700[? I don't remember.]
Wouldn't using the iPad preset and changing the 1024x768 to 1024x600 be better?
good idea to post them, i was just about to do the same, and the good news is that i have almost identical settings. im just using slightly higher quality audio (160kpbs) and leaving it on Stereo always, everything else looks exactly the same!

I'm not sure if that preset uses "high profile" or not. the NC only supports "baseline profile", and I know that's what the ipod setting uses.
The encodes from HD content look brilliant using this setting. I'm not sure how it could be better.

If there's no discernible difference with 480 vs 600 then forget I said anything.
Using 1024x600 would not be "better" in any way. If you want to use the hardware decoding from the NC's default app (Movies when invoked from Astro but I think a part of Gallery), the video must be H.264 Baseline, AAC audio, resolution less than 854x480.

I didn't think about the resolution you specified because you could just make the iphone profile 1024x600.
If I had understood your intention, I would have made you aware that the max video accelerated rez on the NC is 854x480 in my initial reply. Instead, I just focused on your use of the ipad profile.
I don't have personal experience; but I think I read somewhere that H.264 @ 1024x600 is a slide show.
Tested with 720p Top Gun and looks perfect. Sound is a little low, but what I've read is that there is no way to adjust the audio gain in Handbrake. Thanks.
From the nook user guide
"Mpeg4 Simple Profile up to 854x480
H.264 Baseline profile up to 854x480"
I also use "DropFolders". It uses HandBrake, but adds a watch folder & destination folder. Any video you drop in the watch folder starts DropFolder & it converts it & places the converted file in the destination folder. Very convenient. Start DropFolder first & then move the file to the watched folder.
Cheers,
kev

Ah, so it dosnt support hardware decoding past 480 huh? Good to know. I was wondering why it kept failing at 600. Turns out it's just because I cant read instructions! Still, I was running at 400 and it looked alright. Glad to know I can indeed push it a bit further.
What's the average file size you guys are ending up with? I got a 32gb card begging for movies...
It is about 530MB per hour.

Do we expect this 480P limitation to be lifted once a proper 2.2 ROM comes out? Or is this just the limitations of the hardware?

It's a hardware limitation.

you are correct that you cannot adjust the gain. however, (you may be aware of this already,) you can set the DRC on the Audio tab to compress the audio, which will essentially raise the quieter sections to match the louder ones. this will not make the loudest parts any louder though.
SubStation Alpha subtitles
For anybody trying to convert MKVs with SSA subtitles (i.e. sources such as anime), I had a heckuva time trying to figure out how get hard subs written to the MP4 output. Apparently the official stable release of Handbrake doesn't support SSA subs but all you need to do is download the latest nightly build and you're off to the races.
Using the settings the OP mentioned worked wonders when I was trying to convert my Hajime no Ippo episodes.
DropFolders looks interesting as well, I'm just not sure I'm crazy about using Adobe Air. Just another silly app to update all the freakin' time.
Anyway, good work, and thanks!

i'm trying drop folders right now... it's a nice idea but it consumes almost the same CPU than handbrake itself.... i think it is better to run only handbrake and let it use full CPU (and finish in around half of the time)

(barely)Working Flash lite on Nook Color Rooted

Ok, I hope i'm not regurgitating info, and if I am. Please kill this thread. But I was pretty sure i've been paying attention and no flash was working yet. I hijacked this info of of this thread : http://android.modaco.com/content/z...295/flashlite-working-with-stock-android-2-1/
so the credits not mine, BUT , I did install the .lib files, and then load the apk and guess what? Flash!! It doesn't seem to work in Dolphin, but it did load and work in the native browser. It's choppy, doesn't seem to look very good, but it's a start right?
Ok, so use root explorer to move .lib files to system/lib, then install the apk and voila. I've included a screen shot for proof of concept. Either way, it's in your hands now guys. I'm not even close to a dev, just a googler. I was thinking about how flashlite worked on other devices but not ours and figured there would maybe be dependencies we could move over, obviously someone else had already done the work for me on a seperate device.
EDIT: alright, this is weird. I probably should have done some more testing before I jumped the gun. (sorry, I was excited) Apparently I also installed another version of flash player prior to the instructions I posted. Nothing seems to work unless the lib files, and both versions of flash are installed. This can't be right, nor does it make sense, but i've tested both versions with the lib files and without each other and they don't work...so anyone else who cares to mess around installing different versions of flash with the lib files, maybe we can get better results. I've attached the other flash file I used below.
Pretty cool, I wonder what other browsers this works in. I'll have to give this a try, it'd be nice to watch some of the blog videos or such.

the guy in the other thread said it would work with xscope so i'm trying it now...i haven't found a site where I could get a video to load yet, but newgrounds did load a game (useless I know) ...
I just tried it in Opera Mobile, didn't seem to be working there (I went to the 'what's my flash version' site and nada)
It actually worked in dolphin. About as well as it did in the standard browser, choppy stuttery, newgrounds game, no sound. Seems like its trying to work with videos, but its just missing something.
This thread needs the attention of revs
Move to book devlopment maybe?
I actually started the thread in android development, and it was moved by a mod to general. I'm not sure i'd want to waste too much dev attention on something like this when I know they are close to finishing 2.2 and i've read gingerbread might be coming soon too with CM. Right now the only reason to use those apks on the original post is if you'd like to be able to see more ads on web pages than you were previously able to.

Nook Color can only play these video formats: 3GP, 3G2, MP4, M4V, and OGG. And supports MPEG-4 Simple Profile up to 854×480, H.263 up to 352×288, and H.264 Baseline profile up to 854×480. So if u want enjoy your video on Nook Color, u must convert video to these Nook Color compatible formats. I suggest u try XXXXXX , which can convert all format videos to Nook Color with the optimized format (MP4, H.264, 854×480).
U can try it, good luck!

Sorry all.... but dude every post you have on here is the same. I have to assume you work for the video converter you keep mentioning considering some of the posts you've replied to are stale and haven't bee touched since Dec.
Not sure what policy here is, so I'll leave it to the mod's. I'm new here myself but these types of posts are annoying. **EDIT** sorry, didn't' see the report button till after I replied. I've submitted for the mods.
I'm new to getting a NC and rooting it, but I'm interested in having flash on mine.
Have you guys experienced any problems with your NC after pushing this Flash on it?

Any guides to create custom boot animations?

For the love of God I cannot find a for Dummies guide!
I want to convert a GIF file into an animation and I am not even sure what programs I need to begin with.
Thanks for any help.

I'll write something up tonight.
you need to extract the frames out of the gif file into multiple .png files.
I use something call Gif Frame Extractor. Search for it on google cause i cant post links. w w w [dot] evanolds [dot] c o m
After you extract the gif files its just a matter of resizing and tweaking your image set.
for the captivates your resolution should be 480 pixles wide by 800 pixles high.
name the series of images Image001.png Image002.png Image003.png etc.. I'm not sure what the max allowed images are but from my experimentation anything over 100 images tend to throw my phone into a bootloop. (be sure to have a good CWM backup handy when that happens)
I might upload a video tutorial/screencast later tonight as soon as i fix my phone (bootloop while trying to make the tutorial haha).
video guide is up on youtube
I made a quick guide on how to extract, edit and package your very own boot animation. The video came out crappy cause my screen capturing software didn't play well with Adobe Preimere. I'll try and make a better one over the weekend, but this should be sufficient for a quick reference.
Thanks mate!
With that and the steps fritzgerald I should be finally able to learn this
and music is bad while trying to pay attention to something important i find. hit mute in first 10 seconds the restarted video... couldnt think. 1
just a note for next time.
and i will be watching next time!
yeah i know its bad i made it at 3 in the morning didn't have time to review the video before work. Like i said the capture software totally konked out on me and premiere didnt want to sync the video correctly so im going to have to do the entire video over again later this week. BTW can anyone recommend a good screen capturing/casting software that plays well with Priemiere?

Boot Animation Sounds?

Does anyone know how, if it's possible, to add sound to a boot animation?

You will need to define the audio in the desc.txt file. To define audio for a part you will need to use s + the file name (should use .ogg files) under the part you want the audio to play. All audio will be loaded from /system/media, so make sure you place your audio file there. Here is an example:
p 1 0 Sample_Part1
s Sample_Audio.ogg

Thanks a bunch! I did all of this but apparently I used the wrong audio file type in the wrong location.
Well, for some reason that didn't work for me either. Any other ideas?

I know this could put hate towards me on this thread, but sounds on boot is the worst thing possible.
Usually if I ever have to turn my phone off its cause I have to be sure no sounds will happen(Movies, church, whatever) If it accidentally got turned on, a sound that comes on while booting pisses me off royally. Like the stock ATT firmware! Or I'm flashing at work and have to reboot multiple times...again sounds cause a problem...
I hear you for wanting to do your own custom sounds and I would also like to learn how this is done, but I would never do it.
Here's how my boot animation folder is setup:
Triforce
- 01_Triforce
- 02_Loop
- desc.txt
The .txt file is setup this way:
720 1280 200
p 1 0 01_Triforce
s Triforce.ogg
p 0 0 02_Loop
On ICS it will play the sound as well as 02_Loop but not 01_Triforce. On JB it plays all the visuals but not the sound. Any ideas as to what is wrong?

[REQ] AOA Boot animation

Can someone make or help me make a boot animation similar to this one:

Except with Choa from AOA instead of Yoona from SNSD?
Here's some potentially usable source media if it helps:

I don't want sound.
