Dropped my Nexus and shattered the glass... All works still. Found the outer glass on ebay for like $10. Is it possible to replace it without having to replace the digitizer? Is it glued together like some other phones, or can I take it apart and put in new glass without issue?

According to ifixit the outer glass is glued to the digitizer:

Anyone have experience replacing just the outer glass? I read its possible on other phones, and they do sell the outer glass, so I have to assume there is a way... I can't find digitizer for sale anywhere..
If the digitizer is glued to the screen it's likely you're gonna need that entire assembly replaced which isn't gonna be as cheap as a $10 slate of gorilla glass.

Thanks in advance!
as someone who's done the repair twice. Don't buy from ebay as they sell cheaper knockoffs.
Its actually pretty complicated and almost worth the money to send it in for repair.
Really.
i disagree, the repair was fairly easy if youre following a guide. ive done it once and taken mine completely apart twice. the most difficult part was separating the broken glass from the rubber part where it is mounted and getting the bottom part of the phone off without breaking it or leaving marks. I used spray adhesive to seal the new digitizer to the mount. I bought mine from amazon, just about the same price and came with prying tools. it was good quality with only a single miniature air bubble in the glass which is only noticeable if youre really looking for it on a full white screen.
if only your glass is broken that is all you should need, the digitizer. if the lcd is cracked or bleeding you will need that as well.
Guys my phone's faceplate is damaged... one of the corner is scratched , even though its metal.
My phone is under warranty.
Can any one recommend me what to do?
Like should i go to a LG service center or is there an alternative way to buy it any where online in India.
Please provide a link for the latter
Yeah, i have the similar problem but i just use a CASE to hide the SCRATCHES,
You should try it.
I don't understand what you mean, the only metal on the phone is the back where it says "With GOOGLE". The silver side surround is plastic.
It is possible to replace the screen surrounding plate (its plastic with metal effect) without replacing the digitizer? I found that they are offered as s single part.

You can, but the bezel is stick to the digitizer using 3M adhensive, and is very hard to remove... (I disassembled the unit before, to replace my LCD and the digitizer, and the frame)
Take a look at ebay for replacement
the plastic metal effect its one with the groilla display they all make the front cover and you need to replace all front cover, a pay for mine 90€ in the lg services because my gorrila display was scrath a the metal plastic too.
I see them all over the ebay world, and my glass is cracked but my digitizer is fine. My ocd is about to kick in and I want to know how to relpace it and what is this part? Thanks!
As far as I'm aware the LCD screen and glass are fused together so you will have to replace the entire screen.

You are right.
Hello guys!
It's my first post on this forum so excuse me for all mistakes that I have made
Some time ago i dropped my LG G Flex from about 0,5m. The screen have "spider webs" so it makes annoying to use it. Luckily the screen and touch layer managed to survive .
I searched web for replacements but i didn't find the glass. I only managed to find a glass with whole display. The cost of whole thing was about 50$-100$. The price of that part was too expensive to make it happen (i bought phone for about 140$).
Soo i have came up with bright idea. I was gonna remove the screen glass like this girl on video (Search YouTube for "HOW TO REPLACE A SMARTPHONE SCREEN!" uploaded by "everythingdiy").
Thing was very easy because LG don't have any physical buttons on front and the whole "frame thing" was attached to bottom layers (With samsung phones the "frame thing" is attached to glass").
After removing broken glass i cleaned everything up with just a tissue.
Next step was the easiest one. I bought online a tempered glass protector and applied it on my screen.
Here you go, everything is working very well !
I have payed for replacing my screen glass about 5$ (+ work with removing old glass)
I think i have helped someone with similar problems.
REMEMBER !! To preform this your display and touch must work !!! You are doing it on your own and i don't take any responsibility if you damage your phone !!!
what tempered glass protector did you buy? please can you send a link
also, when you remove the glass, was it attach to the lcd with glue?

I bought the cheapest one Any tempered glass will do the job.
The glass was attached to the LCD with glue. Make sure to warm up the screen with hair dryer or heat gun
You can try removing that glass at any point. Just google "removing phone screen glass" or something like that.
Remember it's not that easy as it sounds, the display is very fragile.

Outer glass is for exactly that, replacing just the surface glass. You have to separate the outer glass and the original, fully-touch-functional, LCD digitizer using a thin wire and 80'C heating source (hotter than that will ruin your LCD) to melt the LOCA (clear optical) glue which cures with UV light source (or out in the sun). It's difficult and time consuming (3-4 hrs labor). The glass is only $10 or so but other equipment is needed as mentioned. There are kits for $25 which includes wire, double-side tape (not as good as LOCA glue due to dust getting in between glass and LCD and not as durable when phone gets hot--glass may raise and separate from LCD, glass may crack easiers).
Full LCD is easier and more durable as you replace the whole thing. Down side is cost ($70-$150 depending on phone model). It only takes about 15' to change out the LCD. It's usually same or even cheaper to buy a used phone than replacing a full LCD. For example you can get a used LG G2 for $50-75 on Ebay and Swappa in good condition.
Remembers replacement parts are NEVER as durable as original screen as they're generic Chinese stuff. Don't think you're getting Gorilla glass for the outer glass. One drop and your replacement screen glass will break. The full LCD replacement usually fail within 1 year due to generic digitizer or recycled digitizer.
If I were you, I'd just buy a good condition used LG G2 and be done with it.
I just replaced mine G2 D802 (from 2013) Lcd, you need to replace the whole thing (screen+lcd)I think, you can buy the Lcd from the Internet. I bought the lcd about $50 and got the shop to replace it for $6. Now my G2 is like new.
