I ordered my G1 and I was planning on giving someone my IMEI # and get the unlock pin. My question is, once I do that, do I have to enter the pin in every time I reboot the phone? Or do I enter it once and it's permanently unlocked?
If someone could clear this up I'd really appreciate it!
Thanks,

It will be permantly unlocked
Wonderful!
I keep seeing all these youtube videos of people showing there tmobile sim then swap it for something, then unlock it. It just looks like you do it after every reboot or sim change
And I was really hoping I dont need to tape a piece of paper with my pin on it to the battery, lol.
Anyways, thanks for clearing this up!
They might be putting there sim code in which is different from the unlock code. But just like any phone you unlock, once you unlock it it's unlocked.

BTW, you didnt say whether you were or not, but if you're planning on PAYING for the unlock code, you may not have to. T-Mobile usually will e-mail you the code upon request as long as you are a customer in good standing for I believe 90+ days
Has anyone been able to successfully unlock the sim for this phone, I'd like to use it on T-Mobile and At&t wont help me out. I have read into several unlocking sites but wanted to know if there were any that can confirm that WILL unlock the Moto X.
1) AT&T Lumia 640 GoPhone
I get code from at&t but it does not work. I put in my new zealand sim and turn it on and try unlock code on 10 attempts remaining screen and it says incorrect code then puk required, I then input sim puk then it says sim error.
I also try ##7820# method and it accepts code and padlock is opened but on reboot it is locked again.
2) Cricket USA Lumia 640
I paid for unlock code on eBay and it does not work on 10 attempts screen or ##7820# screen.
If anyone could help with either problem or point me to a guide to hack a registry or whatever I would be very grateful.
Thanks.
P.S. what happened to those little black multi -unlock sim things you could buy back in the days that slid in between your sim and the phone and could fool a phone?
Do they not work in this day and age?
Thanks.
I know that simply flashing the unlocked firmware won't unlock the phone. I'm sure that we all know this. But wouldn't the unlocked firmware get rid of the T-Mobile Unlock App, therefore allowing you to then be able to input an unlock code?
This will not work. It send your IMEI to tmobile servers and checks on their end and if it can be unlocked it is unlocked, you can not do it like that.
Right, I get get what you're saying. And what you are saying is true on Tmobile's firmware. But What I am asking is wouldn't flashing the unlocked version firmware get rid of T-Mobile's unlock app (it would), therefore allowing you to enter a regular unlock code that you can get a lot cheaper (like $10 bucks) than a "TMobile Unlock App Service" (like $140) to unlock your device.

Also wouldnt work. That is not a think that T-Mobile supports anymore. It all goes through the unlocking app. If you try it, its probably not going to work. Try it if you want.

If he has a proper unlock code and the ability to input it as though it came from another carrier then T-Mobile would have nothing to do with it. Why wouldn't it work with the all carrier firmware? The hardware is the same across all carriers. Inputting an unlock code does not contact the carrier, right?

This guy gets my point haha. Want to try it out? Paying $10 for a "normal" unlock code is way better than $140+ for someone to unlock through Tmobile's app.

well there is tutorial on how to change carrier, why dont you give it try?
I tryed this, i get the codes (both codes, before and after flashed) from z3x pro, phone accept codes and say was unlocked but still showing invalid sim
wrong comment , please disregard
it doesn't matter what you do even if you can get the phone to ask you for the unlock code is still will not unlock it there are ways to get it to ask you for the code like shortcut Master Plusfrom the Play Store but it still will not work
there are ways to get it to ask you for the unlock code like shortcut.pro .....and samoble....but it doesn't matter because even if you can input the unlock code it still will not work it will say that it's unlocked but then it prompts you every single time it does not work the only way around it is to pay to have it unlocked
So I managed to flip toggle on my phone (be82cf) which is on MetroPCS. I noticed that when going into the developer options menu the OEM unlock toggle is ungreyed for split second before going grey. If you are fast enough, you can flip the switch before it greys out, which is what I did. I was able to get my unlock code and I'm now waiting on getting my token from one plus. My sim is still locked so I'm not sure if this will unlock but hopefully it does.
Hello brother. Please were you able to perform SIM unlock for your device? If possible how did you do it.
Thanks in advance.
