Hi All,
Iv been looking at These instructions for flashing the latest Cyanogenmod, and it says to install clockwork mod app.
why cant I do the install by just rebooting into recovery mode on the phone? Is there something special Cyanogen mod does?
Thanks

Clockwork mod recovery is a special android recovery that is made esp. for cyanogenmod and rom manager app. This recovery is able to handle flashing of roms, create backup and restore and do many other advance things, which are not possible to do via stock recovery.
If you don't have problem falshing cm7 then, why are thinking too much about installing CWM recovery? I suggest you give it a try and I guarantee that you'll love both clockwork mod recovery and cm7 custom rom. Good Luck! with the flashing.
P.S. DOn't use ROM MAnager with Galaxy Mini.
Thanx guys for the stupid newb questions!!
I successfully rooted my phone no problem at all, while I was on a role I decided to have a go at installing ClockworkMod, following These instructions I downloaded all files ran odin and booted my phone to download mode I connected it, and odin found the phone, so I pressed start and it didnt appear to do anything. The phone didnt reboot and I got no status messages. I followed them exactly.
I might try again tommorow on another PC.
anyone else experienced this?

Maybe the title was misleading as Why Clockworkmod?
Maybe that's why he replied about stock and custom recovery.
But the content in the post was clear, as the OP said about why the CWM app needed for installing ROMs, but the Thread title should be clear enough though, as it should be more like Why Clockworkmod app?
yes thats exactly what I meant coolsandie, and noted I could have worded the thread better. its been a while since iv done the whole forum thing. but, thanx for the tips guys
here's the thing..
i'm running on v20g, i rooted it using LG extract and injected CWM, flashed it using smart flash. but everytime i go to Reboot to recovery i always end up on a boot loop.
will someone help me? is there any way to downgrade from v20g to v20o??

still boot loop.
Hey buddy! I have same problem with you! I noticed that when i'm on stock rooted rom i always ended into bootloop going into recovery using either rom manager or quickboot. When i'm on custom rom like marvel, zeus etc. i also ended into bootloop going into recovery but after 1 hr or more, i will turn on the phone and then it will boot into recovery. I have a hard time flashing different custom rom because of this. Its like there is a time out before entering cwm recovery. It also happened to me everytime i used smartflash tool. It takes an hour before my phone got boot. 2 weeks ago someone upload a flashable V20s spain stock rom that has capable of entering cwm recovery after flashing the stock rom and luckily i manage to save it to my computer. I flash it using smartflash tool, after flashing it will reboot and then it will stock into bootloop. I will remove the battery and wait for atleast 1 hr and then i will turn on my phone and it will automatically boot into recovery. I do data factory reset, clear cache 1st then install superuser zip and then after that i flash the custom rom. I suggest that look for a flashable stock rom that has capable of entering cwm automatically after flashing and once you got the cwm do all you want but install first the superuser zip before flashing custom rom.
EDIT:
Here's the link buddy but i don't know if its available to download.

[PROBLEM SOLVED] I flashed the custom ROM directly and everything is up and running! Details are below Thanks everyone!

Experts please help!
I have been surfing my whole day trying to root my Note I (N7000) and flash a custom ROM.
My kernal is XXLSF and I flashed PhilZ-cwm6-ZCLSF-CHN-5.08.5-signed.zip.
I rebooted it after flashing. The Samsung logo appears but then, it blackens and nothing appear on screen.
Now, I can get into the recovery mode by pressing the volume up, power and home button.
I am planning on flashing a stock ROM from SamMobile. Is it okay? WIll I brick my device? What should I do?
I am so frustrated right now:crying:
Your help is much appreciated. Thank you!
From this post, "None since I switched to the CWM4 and CWM6 recoveries (no more superbrick risks under 4.0.4 ICS kernels, only CWM5.x was affected)"
Should I flash a stock ROM that is under 4.0.4, but not the lastest 4.1.2?
What is the XXLSF kernel? May be you flashed an incompatible kernel. Yes you can boot into download mode and flash stock rom.. It will boot up the device again.. Before rooting next time, read instruction more carefully.
If you were intending to flash a custom rom, you can do it without flashing a stock rom as you have access to recovery. In the recovery mode, select mount USB storage>connect to PC.. drives will appear. then place the custom rom zip file on to phone. In recovery mode, choose clean before New rom install and then flash the new rom.

Thank you so much for such prompt reply!!
Really? I can flash a custom ROM without root access?
THANK YOU!!!
You dont need root access to flash a custom rom.. Just CWM recovery which you should have after flashing Philz kernel,

Yes! I do have CWM recovery
Should I flash stock ROM and then flash the custom rom([ROM][JB 4.3][AOSPA][AOKP-MR1][CM10.2]P.A.C True All in 1 ROM[Nightlies])?
because I have never updated my Note I, the kernal version is very old.
The kernel now is not OLD as its now updated to Philz. You can directly install the PAC rom.

Besides, I can't find the option "Format system" while following the steps to flash the custom ROM
Ok.,.. then get any one of the CM kernels first from here,.,http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1789397
flash the CM kernel first.. then reboot recovery and flash the rom again..
format system data cache and preload are under mounts & storage menu

I have finally and successfully boot into my device after nine hours battle with my note I :silly:
But the last eight hours was nothing when comparing with your BIG HELP!
What's weird is that all my photos and data are present
I am 100% sure that I wiped all the data and cache and format data cache
Anything on the internal SD card that you stored using camera or music or videos will not be erased doing a factory reset. For that you will need to choose..format /emmc in the recovery mode. /data is one that app stores on the phone.

"UI system is forced to stop" appear continuously after changing language from English to Chinese.
Is it true that changing system language will lead to breakdown of system?
THANKS A MILLION!!
I have not used any language other than English. So you may need to ask in the PAC ROM thread.

Ah okay. I would then flash a custom recovery. You can access the bootloader correct? What method did you use to install the rom? Clean flash or wipe is when you erase all the phone's system files, leaving a blank slate for a new rom to be installed on, and should be done before installing a brand new rom to avoid any issues.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2568662
This is the link to the recovery image I used, it's the latest clockwordmod touch recovery. Very easy to flash as long as you have fast boot setup correctly. Once you have a working recovery you should be able to try a re-flash.

Well I entered Recovery mode through Rom Manager[/URL]clokworkmod () then used "install zip from sdcard".
I chose to keep my old data and don't make a factory reset.

Was the recovery still stock or was a custom one flashed? Which process did you follow to root the phone? Since you can't access the recovery at the moment is suggesting it is stock. A failed rom install shouldn't corrupt recovery

I remember I've unlocked the bootloader.
I used the method described on this french website : phonandroid.com/tutoriel-comment-rooter-son-htc-one.html
On the bootloader now, i can do a factory reset. Can it be a solution ? will it or not delete the root ?

I'm not sure, since you have tried to flash another rom, a factory reset might not solve the issue. Trying shouldn't brick the phone but I can't say for sure, sorry!
The method looks similar to the one I used. Could you try following from step 6? but using a different recovery.img. I used the clockwokmod touch from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2173863

Nice! Glad you have working recovery. Yes I would reinstall the rom now, and I would recommend that you wipe the system files, (except SD Card partition of course) to reduce the chance of boot loops etc

Could you send me a link to the rom you flashed? Try downloading a different rom. As you can't boot a ROM your only option may be to use ADB to push a new ROM onto your phone's storage.
See this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2317989
EDIT: Sorry, that link is for the other recovery. Use this one instead http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1667929

It may have been a bad download. There isn't really any reason for it to not work, although it does say on the page it "You need TRWP 2.6.3.3 custom recovery!"
Not to worry, you can flash it in no-time. Ok so just as before, just flash a new recovery (again) and use the latest image from here: http://techerrata.com/browse/twrp2/m7/
This should allow you to install the rom as the developers intend. It is strange though, i've never encountered a rom where a specific recovery was needed.

I have flashed the 3.2.1.0 version of twrp recovery but it stucks at reboot when i reboot the system well i don't know what to do if i flash the old versin 3.1.1.0 is it would be problem. Now i am on stock rom and recovery. Open for suggestions.
It may be a kernel problem. I had the same thing happen on stock. I fixed it by downloading a ROM then installing TWRP. After install go right into recovery after you disconnect from Odin and clean flash the new ROM. No problems after that.
