Nexus 4: Updates I would like see

Hi, I am just sharing some things I would like to see in the future.
An option to completely disable vibration. Although I switched it off from the settings, I still had to go to WhatsApp to switch it off there too.
When I set an alarm through Google Now, it sets vibration on by default. I need to always go in to Alarm and remove the tick.
I like the keyboard, would be nice to be able remove a word from the dictionary from the predicted text on the keyboard by holding the word for an option to remove(similar to Swift Keyboard).
Multitasking, If I long hold the multitask button it should clear all the background apps rather then swiping them one by one. It would be very useful to have a pin icon next to an app to pin it down so you can keep an app running like YouTube in case if you are watching a long clip.
Camera is fantastic, I miss the pause feature while recording. Now I do use the Movie Studio, but it takes time to convert(Samsung has the pause feature I am talking about).
3G internet, there is an option to disable background data which is fantastic to keep free software from advertising on your phone especially if you aren't on an unlimited data plan. What is missing is that although I activate "restrict background data" there should of been an option to put some applications as exception like WhatsApp.
Many might not know, but if you long hold WiFi icon from the quick settings it turns on the WiFi, same for Bluetooth. I would like to see this reverse. One click toggles on and off and long press takes you directly into the menu..
I will add more things in the future.
I am not complaining, just features I wouldn't mind seeing. I am really happy with this phone.

Well i'd like to see BT working while WiFi is enabled too...!

My alarm doesn't go into vibrate mode on its own when I set it with Google Now.
And I also agree that there should be a button to close all the programs out, but I think there are third party apps that serves the purpose.

Wifi not stall when in sleep mode, so notifications work.
Mobile network 3g to work properly on my sim, old but still works fine on other phones.. 1 minute works/ next minute stalled..repeat, 2g works ok
Speed to match other phones with s4pro
Volume raised to decent levels
non stupid quick settings.. c'mon how can they bodge it twice ? it's quick settings not brain surgery

Lockscreen Doesn't Lock...

Hello all,
Was wondering if anyone is having the same issue as I am. My lock screen doesn't seem to actually lock the phone.. i.e. if you press an app without sliding it up, it just opens. The lock icon, however, is still displayed. My lock screen style is set to productivity, and that still all works, and I have no security set up. It's worth noting that it was working with no issues up until a day ago, and nothing has changed :/
For further clarification:
By not working, I mean that before I used to have to slide the tab up, or to launch an app I would have to drag it up, but now that doesn't work.

This just started happening to my AT&T HTC One tonight! I found this post by doing a search to see if anyone else had experienced this same issue on their One.
Also I can no longer drag the icons at the bottom of my lockscreen up to get into that particular app. And pressing anywhere on the lockscreen seems to unlock the phone and take me to the desktop.
I'm using the "music lockscreen" style, fyi.

I just figured out what was causing it on mine... I actually received my Pebble smartwatch in the mail today and had installed the Pebble Android app onto my One. This also required going into the Settings on my One and enabling Accessibility for the Pebble and Pebble Notifier and these 2 accessibility settings were what was causing the lockscreen to behave this way.
Don't see anyway to get around it so far...

Wow aha actually I did install the pebble app just before it started happening.. I wonder if it's a problem on pebble's side or htc... good catch though!

I have got this on my HTC one, I have come from an iphone and wanted to have the screen turn on when any emails are received. These show up on the lockscreen so when I'm driving if I get an email the screen turns on.
I can use several apps to do this but they all require to be enabled in Accessibility, if I do that the lockscreen unlocks when its touched anywhere as mentioned earlier without swiping. If I disable the accessibility setting its all back to normal but the app doesnt work....ie. the screen doesn't come on.
Any one figured this out yet?

I found a work around for it. It requires root access, Tasker and Secure Settings.
What I did was create a Context that is activated when the display is on and then using Secure Settings, disable all Accessibility for all events. As an exit task, I re-enable all my accessibility apps.
Now when i turn on my display, I actually have to slide to unlock.

Under the profiles tab
Press the + icon in the botton right corner
Select State
Select Display
Select Display State
Change "Is Off" to "Is On"
Press the back button
You should have a popup of available Tasks (if you have any)
Select New Task +
[Optional] Give it a name
You need to do the following section as many times as you have Acessibility services
***********************************************
Press the + icon in the lower middle screen
Select Plugin
Select Secure Settings
Press the Edit button
Select Accessibility Services
Select a service, and make sure is disabled (by default it will be)
Press the save icon in the lower left
Press back
************************************************************
Repeat the previous section as needed
When you are done creating your task, press the back button
You should be back at your main profile screen.
Long press the green arrow of the task you just created
Select Add Exit Task
Repeat the *********** section but save the accessiblity services as "Is Off" for all your services.
Tasker has a bit of a learning curve, and hopefully this will get you started.

Efox29. That works very well.. Thanks again for the advice.

I've got this set up as well but for me it is extremely hit and miss. Nearly 50% of the time I still get the single touch unlock and the other half of the time tasker works perfectly. The only thing I can think of is that my pin unlock causes a problem but why only half the time.
Anyone else have this problem?
I suppose I should be happy my problem has been cut in half but I wish it was completely consistent.

Actually having used this tasker solution for a few days now it works about 75% of the time and seems more reliable if the screen has been off for a while vs reactivating the screen very soon after turning off. Still sometimes I get the one touch unlock after the screen being locked for hours. On the whole the accessibility problem still really annoys me but I agree this solution is better than nothing and so far I haven't had any more accidental call answers.

has anyone noticed that another issue with this accessibility bug is that the screen will flicker or flash black for a split second after unlocking? again, this only happens after you turn on accessibility for an app.

1) is there a way to make active display or tap to wake up phone?
2) on my previous phone if I clicked on the volume key button the phone would turn on?- can I do it on here?
3) there are many more apps like contextual services and lots of other Motorola apps. Which are safe to disable?
4) is there a way to block OTA updates?
5) when you swipe down using two fingers you get the notification pull menus. But when I click the wifi button it opens the settings app and goes to wifi. Can't I edit it so it goes DIRECTLYY to. Toggle wifi?
6) pin on lock screen - on my old phones when I input my pin it unlockes. This is so stupid and takes more longer after inputtingmy pin. I then have to click enter? How do I automate that

2) Not by default.
3) I leave Assist, Alert, Audio effects, Help and Migrate disabled. I don't know about the rest, but those are safe.
4) Just don't install them. I don't know if you can disable the alerts though.

6) Well, you could try using an app that replaces your lockscreen which has this feature, such as the Home Screen Lock of Smart App Lock. By default you can't though.

I assume you are using Lollipop. The wifi-icon and the SSID are two seperate buttons. Tapping the icon switches wifi on/off. Tap on the SSID and it will take you to settings

I've found that long-pressing the wifi button will toggle it on and off.

Flashlight gone from quick settings

Apparently I didn't use my flashlight app enough and it fell out of my quick settings. I can see how to get rid of something, but I can't find anything on how to get it back. I also don't see it as an app anywhere else.

Are you rooted? Have you made any changes? Maybe you installed something to change it

Not rooted, no new apps. I used the WiFi hotspot and then the flashlight went away.

I wonder what the "time limit" is. I have never used the cast screen button in quick toggles and its still there. I've never lost a toggle.

It will also disappear if you have the camera app open.

Is it certain that it uses time or usage frequency to decide to show something or not? I'm thinking that it is more likely that the flash device crashed, so it took away that which was inaccessible. A reboot made the device accessible again, and back it comes.

Flashlight disappeared from Nexus 6p.
Flashlight disappeared from Nexus 6p and camera app couldn't be started, crashes.
Device restart resolved the problem.

Solution:
The solution is simple. Go to Google app and do a voice command to disable flashlight. Be sure that the Google app give you the message that the flashlight is off. Restart the system and look for the flashlight tile. It should be back.

This works on the 6P with Android 7.1.1
Pull down the Quick Setting Menu. When you do, a pencil will be displayed on the notification line.
Tap the pencil and you will be able to edit the quick settings menu.

How to restore flashlight on Quick Settings

I have 5.0.2 andall of a sudden, the flashlight icon on the Quick Settings bar dissapeared.

Lollipop puts the things into the quick settings that are often used (exept some standard settings like wifi which stay there independent from usage). So if you start the flashlight a few times from the settings menu it should show up in the quick settings again. I´ve got the same with gps.

hmmm...I just noticed this. I don't even find a flashlight app in the drawer anymore. What happened here?
It used to be there and I liked the easy accessibility of it. I want the flashlight to be locked in the quick settings.

Where is the flashlight in the Settings??? I have no flashlight there! Please post a screenshot of what you have on yours. Thanks!

You´re right,there isn´t a flashlight app in the drawer and I even don´t find a way to activate it in the settings....

Usually a restart fixes this for me!

I've restarted the phone several times since then but never came back...
My only hope is to search again the command to clear the data for system ui and see if that works or not. It did it for one option once, maybe it can make it for the flashlight again...

I had mine disappear too. It came back after I downloaded another Flashlight App and used it, but that may have been a coincidence.

i have restarted the phone and nothing happened. i dont even know where to locate torch in the phone other than quick settings

Try taking a photo with the flash turned on and check your quick settings after.

Wiping cache partition in twrp worked for me.

I had faced the same issue. But after I turned off and turned on I got my flashlight back on quicklaunch.

Turn on camera flash and take some photos or make a video with your flash on then restart your phone.. I did and it worked on motog2 xt1068...
The quick settings are managed based on the settings you use frequently

I have taken some photos with flash and got the torch in quick settings. thanks a lot..
