Serious question.
How can you i9305 users live with the pathetic performance of AOSP camera ? Please, let me explain.
I have f.e. stock 4.4. I can open camera app, touch no setting, take a picture, and it will be nice. If i install Google Camera, the image will be more or less equal.
Then i install CM11 or 12, doesn't matter. And i open the same Google Camera, and i take a picture on the same conditions as before, and the image and performance ? God damn...
ZSL is inexistent on AOSP, the camera will ALWAYS focus before a shot, unless you tap on the screen and the the shutter button no longer than 500ms after. Wait too long, refocus before shot. Focusing takes 1 second on the i9305, that's a missed shot. And the final image? Dark. Completely unexposed.
Now, i'm not trying to bash any dev, rom, app, or anything, i'm asking you final users, how can you withstand the marvelous of Lollipop, with it's pathetic camera performance ?
P.S. please keep this civil, and i9305 only. I suspect the i9305 and the i9300 differ, at least (probably) on the firmware. There are multiple firmwares for our camera, we all know this...

I wanted to create a thread specifically for showing pictures taken with either the Desire Camera ported to the Nexus, or the stock camera app. In my opinion, the desire camera takes better pictures, even if very slightly. But who knows? And maybe we can learn something from each other about how to take better pictures with this awesome phone?
Please put along with your photos:
Camera (Desire or Stock)
Lighting source (indoors/outdoors)
Megapixel level
ISO Level
Changes in brightness/contrast/saturation/sharpness or any relevant settings
Focus (Auto/Off/Tap to Focus)
White Balance
Any other settings changed from default, or relevant information.
Pens at my work
After clicking on link, Right click on picture and hit View Image in Firefox (and whatever is the equivalent method in IE and other browsers)
Desire Camera
Indoor lighting
5 Megapixel level
ISO 100
Tap to Focus (on yellow marker)
Auto White Balance
I should really do some comparison shots, Ive got a stock N1 I can get my hands on, 720p'ed rooted custom etc N1, a stock desire and a froyo'ed desire
I compared the stock camera and the one that comes with CM RC3 and it turns out that both have almost same output. Camera360, however, does a pathetic job sometimes. The night mode (and the enhance contrast mode) on Camera360 does a *brilliant* job though.

What camera comes with CM RC3?
How is this in the QandA section? This isn't a question! Mods please move it back to general!
Is there a way to modify / lower camera flash brightness (output) in ICS?
When taking photos in darker environment, flash 'burns' the photo i.e. colors are washed out and photo is overexposed. I also noticed when the flash is activated during focusing, its brightness is normal.
As far as I remember, this was not the case in GB based ROMs (in which I always used ported stock LG camera app).
I've yet to try out alternative camera apps (zoom fx, ucam...), but I'd like to stick to the stock LG software.
TIA
same problem here, but i used Jbcamera+ for taking pictures (it has great autofocus and the flash is ok) and camerazoomfx for video recording,(the stock one not focusing and the jbcamera+) because the stock camera is bit annoying for me
I havent used the lg stock camera but as you have said the photos are over exposed when using flash so isnt there an option to decrease the exposure? I use the 4.2 Camera and when taking night shots depending on how close the target I set exposure to -1/-2 and get decent low light shots, flash wise that is.
Well, there is exposure compensation on stock camera app, just haven't thought of that before. Will try tonight both camera JB from play store and LG's app with exp -1 and -2.
Thanks.

I thought camerazoom fx only took photos?
Yes, the exposure is way too high. Generally the photos are affected by the flash burns. The only solution i found was to decrease the exposure to -1 or -2.
OK, much better with exposure at -1 and -2 (depending on the surrounding light level).
I just wish LG camera app were a bit more 'intelligent' to figure exposure compensation on its own, but then again it would probably have to rely on some DSLR-like metering methods that would certainly double the size of camera/CCD (and the bulge where it sits) as well as its price...
If this were top priority to me, I'd probably be carrying a 'stupidphone' with an enormous camera at its back (nokia 808, anyone
My phone is focusing but shows green even when it doesn't reach real focus, i don't know if it's my phone fault or for all, but my Galaxy SIII when i don't reach focus it shows a RED sight with 3 bips, and when right focus it shows Green sight with 2 fast bips.

Its auto focussing . When you move your camera around and then hold it still , it again auto focuses on its own.

Yes but even using other cameras like Camera360 ultimate, when i touch to focus and the camera doesn't reached focus, on Moto X it shows green and on Galaxy SIII red(Because when out of focus it shows to user like a DSLR or other cameras). It's only mine? Or Moto X don't have this focus detection built'in? I used all cameras available on market, galaxy SIII detects when not in focus and Moto X not, shows always green after focus or not focus, to have a good focus i need to see if it is or not in real focus.

Yes, i agreed to you in your context, but i'm trying to say that i want to know if my camera has a problem or not, because it's new, all camera phones are supposed to have a focus system, if not work, it's a factory problem.

As far as I know, The STOCK CAM APK OF ANOTHER HIGH QUALITY CAMERA DEVICES MAY improve the quality but it never change the megapixel (hardware tweaks) but it gives a best outcome of your device's camera (8mb or 13mb) whatever it is!
Ex: 13mb cam apk ported to 8mb caMera device gives best resolution of pic with high definition Ultra ZOOM compared with stock camera app
HIT THANKS IF I AM RIGHT
Sorry for yet another camera app battle but so far, I haven't seen the two being compared against each other.
Since I found the Twisty Switch Xposed module, I've wanted to change the camera app into one of these two apps.
My MAIN uses for the camera are just to take pictures of documents [therefore I need the text to be seen clearly] and to take pictures of everyday things [in bright lighting]. I'm also looking to see which does better in taking pictures in yellow lighting [light isn't white bright, but it isn't dark either]. So, which better suits my needs.
Why don't you use both and see for yourself? Obviously FV-5 is going to give you more control.
I can't use FV-5 because whenever I change the ISO mode to lower value the images coming through the viewfinder get very poor framerates to become unusable. It's not a problem of the app or a specific device, both my Moto X have it regardless of apps used, it's just something to do with the Moto X camera.
I'd like to collect cool stuff we can do on Lollipop which lately came to most variants.
If you have a suggestion I'll consider taking it into this first post and give you proper credit
1. Extended Notifications on Lockscreen
Go to Settings > Sounds and notifications > While locked: and then select either "Show all content" or "Hide sensitive content" to have extended notifications on the lockscreen
2. Seeing approximation of when you're battery will be empty
Lollipop visually plots a graph with a prediction on when your battery will be empty
3. Using Ampere from the store, to see charging currents
Only works on L. There were tools that made this possible on pre-L but it was buggy and not available on newer sammy devices. Google Play
Things that are not new or not working but woth to check from time to time:
a. Search through your settings
In case you didn't notice, your settings screen has a search button now
b. Camera API allowing for RAW shots and "real" camera apps that can pre-proccess the raw image data!
https://github.com/PkmX/lcamera - Not compatible, but it seems to be the first developer to built a RAW camera app. Maybe we have a custom rom in the future that supports the camera api?
The camera API improvement was the first thing I was hoping for after the Lollipop update, but it seems that Samsung is not supporting the new camera API.
I have installed Camera FV-5 and it should make full use of the new camera API (with RAW support) but it still states that the device does not support RAW capture. Also an improved control of shutter speed is not available, so it seems Samsung did not support this.
(SM-N910F, 5.0.1)
I am still on 4.4.4 and I have the search button in settings.

Sad, I guess then it will be impossible to have a custom rom with camera api if we don't have the camera driver source from sammy?

I hear ya, I feel your pain @foo
Ha! Why do I have the feeling you don't take me serious?
But really, a lot of people are complaining, that they are getting blurry fotos because of subject movement in combination with too slow shutter speeds, e.g. kids playing indoors. With KitKat and below there was no possibility to control the shutter speed properly, but with Lollipop Google introduced a new API that allows to control the shutter speed and solve such situations in trade with higher ISO noise.
But Samsung left the door closed
Camera recording modes are separate now (slow and fast motion), under ''mode'' button. Time lapse goes 30x faster compared to 8x it was with kitkat. In kikat I set video to FHD 60fps, but needed to set it everytime I opened the camera. Now it seems it remembers.

Oh forgot to mention es-file explorer and I suppose any other file explorers too, who are properly rewritten for LP are now supporting writing to SD card again :good:
