Hey what's up guys. I'm just wanting to know what happens when you wipe your device and try to flash your backup? Is it still somewhere in the phone or should we transfer it to a computer. The reason I ask is because in the past cwm would give me a MDS checksum error if I moved the file from anywhere other than where it was on the folder. I'm looking to flash the new nightlies for cm12, the only worries is not having a functional backup.

No need for a back up just use a tool kit, wug's for instance if you want to go back to stock. I'm on the nightlys now, first official, you won't go back.
Since I'm already backed it up on my phone. Do I have to transfer it to my computer before I wipe my phone?

Factory reset in TWRP doesn't wipe /sdcard. There is an option to wipe storage though, so be careful. Its always worth backing up your nandroids to PC.
I keep all my backups on and otg USB stick so not to fill up internal storage. If you wipe data, system, cache, and dalvik you won't lose your backups either on internal or otg.

My phone died today and decided that it would like to perform a boot loop upon being turned on again. I'm just wondering if there's a way to save all my phone numbers and pictures off of it before using Odin to wipe.
The odin one click will just reformat the /data, /cache , and /system partitions leaving your sdcard alone.master clear I'd what wipes the sdcard. But if you have clockwork recovery you can go to mounts and storage and mount usb storage and copy it all to your computer before you odin
you might be able to mount usb storage with stock recovery as well, idk I never run stock so am unfamiliar with its options. Check though.
+1 to what studacris said. Using odin won't delete files. As far as phone numbers go, I would just sync them with google contacts.

If u have data backed up in recovery, I would recommend formatting boot and system partitions, and restoring only those partitions under advanced restore options. Worth a try before u went ahead with a cleanup process. This could help u get ur phone up so u can backup ur contacts.
Like people said above, pics would be on SD card and would be safe.
I cant boot my note for unknown reason. Anyway i decided to do a full wipe and a clean install of KD rom.
My question is if i do a full wipe, will the titanium backup folder in my internal storage be wiped as well? Cuz my backups are in there.

Why not play safe and just backup/copy the titanium folder on the external memory?
It is too late to do tht now as i cant boot my phone to access my internal storage.

Usually a normal full wipe is just clearing user data and apps, however usb storage is untouched, unless you specifically did format USB. If you store TB backup in internal and you didn't format usb, then it's most likely still there.
Reboot to recovery and wipe cache and data, it won't erase USB(int)storage or external storage.
But You should do this only you are on safe kernel.
Though you dont need to do it, but just for acknowledgment you can use Aroma explorer from recovery and can copy folder from Internal SD card to Ext SD card
Problem had been solved. Thanks guys

What do you mean overwrite it? Do you mean delete it from your phone/flash drive or do you mean restore a different backup over the top of a running backup?
Yes to either anyways lol ... I've swapped out backups multiple times and flashed a backup over a backup but it's always better to restore clean to make sure nothing conflicts ... I always do an advanced wipe in TWRP and format to completely wipe my internal storage and wipe the OS, I then restore from my flash drive using OTG and I've had no issues at all ... You don't really need to do the wipe like that (the OS I mean) but I know it's clean then and ready to start again.
Make sure you are familiar with using sideload or you have a USB OTG cable before you wipe the OS, I don't want you to wipe it and not know how to sort it out lol
Hi guys I'm new to this forum but i've been a CD-ROM for years...
I have question about upgrading ViperROM to 6.2.1
I'm currently using ViperROM 2.7.0 with sense 5.0
Android 4.2.2
I use Titinium Pro to backup all my apps and....
my question is....how to upgrade from 2.7 to 6.2.1 the easiest way?
without any data lost?
do i have to use the data backup from ROM or i can just use the titaniumPRO for full backup?
please advice
I always copy and paste the contents of the sdcard to a folder for safe keeping on my laptop or usb drive. I wipe, data, cache, dalvik cache, system and user partitions. Reboot recovery, use adb sideload to send the rom.zip over and flash. Setup the phone and copy and paste everything back. The whole process takes min. 25-30 minutes. Works for me /shrugs, just my 2 pennies.
I would follow @DeathAngel66669 advice it is very solid. I also use Titanium Pro to quickly add back my USER APPS only with data. Never restore system apps.

I'm just concerning about my User App data, (whatsapp image, convo history)
so i can just do titanium pro and wipe the phone? cool!
Whatsapp etc backs up it's own data to a folder in your internal storage, when you reinstall it and set it up it will say backup found would you like to restore. Just make sure you don't wipe internal storage.
You could also try and dirty flash as you are on viper one already, just go into advanced wipe and wipe your caches only, do not factory reset and when installing the Rom also select don't wipe data partition.
But again as the others have said, make sure it's backed up first, if a dirty flash doesn't work, you'll be left with no choice but to reflash and wipe along the way.
This is my first phone that only has only internal storage. I need to double check before flashing any custom roms. Is there a partition on the phone that you guys save the custom roms to or does it not matter. I was thinking about saving it to the DCIM folder since its easy to find. My fear is that the rom will get erased when we clear the cache throught Teamwin recovery. Btw my phone is bootloader unlocked, rooted and has tw recovery installed. Tia.
Just copy it to the internal storage on the phone. TWRP does not erase internal storage when you factory reset.

Custom recovery do not wipe /data/media on factory reset, which is where "internal storage" is located. But you can wipe it with the "Format Data" option.

Even I had a similar issue. I've never had a device without a SD card.
So if I flash twrp and then a custom rom do I lose things like photos, media on my phone?

You only lose data if you unlock your bootloader. Or if you format the data partition. Flashing a rom and factory reset via TWRP does not erase your files.
