I am sorry to jump in but I am currently running the latest nightly and Ineed to flash bootloaders and start with Froyo again. But my computer is not detecting my phone. I have installed the Android SDK and installed the drivers for Nexus S but of no avail. i am stuck and would appreciate your help.
The funny thing is that I can use the phone as USB device but freaking ODIN is not detecting it. My windows does not has any unrecognised device. I have installed the Nexus S drivers as well. Is it a problem with ODIN or my phone or windows itself? I am running Windows 7 Enterprise 64 Bit edition.
I have tried;
Uninstalled Samsung Drivers / Restarted / Reinstalled
Swapped 2 different cords
Tried every available port on my PC
Restarted, pulled PC power cable, let it rest for a few seconds and plugged it back in
Uninstalled every USB Root Hub device and restarted so Windows could reinstall all of it
Tried Heimdall as well
I need my ODIN flashing back
Thanks in advance!
Look that Kies isn´t running in the Background.
It is not - I can confirm.

But Kies does not recognize the phone So it does not even try to install the drivers.
I am stuck. Without ODIN recognizing my phone, i can not flash anything on it or revert to stock. Would be great to know if there is anything I can do from Recovery Mode. The phone goes to Download mode as well but what's the use.
well this is a long shot but you could try and manually install it by going into where you installed kies in my case its C:\Program Files\Samsung\USB Drivers\24_flashusbdriver choose the X64 folder seeing as you are on a 64bit system and right click FlashUSB_x64.inf and install

i was having this problem too till i sent it back to samsung service centre where they changed the whole board.
my computer totally couldn't recognize my sms on either odin or usb. it won't restart when not connected to charging/power.
i've got a warranty claim and now it back and rooted with gingerbread 2.3.3 jvb install.
samsung service centre is the best. with service like that i'll stay with samsung all the way.

an obvious question, but since no one has asked it yet, are you in the download mode ? You have to be in download mode for Odin to detect.

That is not true. My Samsung Galaxy S is recognised by Odin even when on in normal mode.

Yeah, I ended up doing the exact same thing. Something must have gone weird, because the phone would still charge, but wouldn't be recognized by anything.
It may well be damage to usb on phone, remove the inner cover check for cracks in soldering, and check pounds aren't out of shape
If they are gently straighten with pin

Just Remove the battery and wait for 10 seconds......
insert battery and start in download mode...
tadaaaa.....it's done....
Did you install the drivers for Hemidall? After I did this my phone was not recognize by Odin... but I'm guessing If I roll back or update the drivers some how in Device Manager then Odin would be happy again.
Soooo...
My PC, Win7 x64, doesn't recognize my phone. I've tried almost anything I could find. Reinstall drivers, KIES, tick and untick Mass Storage and USB Debugging...
Yes, I DO tick Mount SD Card. I'm not a total noob
Now I've maybe found where the problem is coming from: I have the Android SDK installed.
My brother doesn't have this, and it works flawlessly on his PC?
I've seen this, but don't think it'll help: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1031603
Many thanks to those that offer help.
Thanks in advance,

Tried uninstalling the SDK? And maybe clearing any older drivers / kies versions.
"Ba-doom". LOL!
Anyway, does your phone only have problems connecting in mass storage, or does it have trouble connecting in kies mode too?
I didn't uninstall the SDK, as I am trying out app devving. Drivers and KIES have been updated and reinstalled. Though one thing doesn't uninstall, will look that up when I get home tomorrow.
Ba-doom is kind of a little pun, KIES mode didn't work, if I remember correctly.

Kies only works with stock ROM. That's why really hard to get it working.

yes that's true....but my main concern is with the device USB drivers that are enclosed within kies setup that help you to connect your device to your pc. anyway i am not able to open my sdcard on my pc whenever i flash any rom and i have to follow such a long procedure everytime....
when i mount my sdcard through any usb card reader, i have no problem as it is obious because USB card reader drivers are included in the windows 8 itself

Hey, been using this site for couple weeks now and loving all the roms you guys make but i'm having trouble getting my s5830 to connect through usb mode.
I'm running slimrom V3 and windows xp home edition, i've installed kies and all the drivers but when i open kies it just says connecting then gives an i/o error when i click on the new drive in my computer. Any ideas how i can get it working?
Kies won't detect your phone after root and after installing a custom rom. What happens when you plug you phone into the computer? Does your phone say in the notification bar USB connected

Oh ok thanks, didn't know that about kies.
Yea it shows in the notification bar, i can turn usb mode on an off but when i click the new drive in my computer it either crashes or gives an i/o error.
The drivers should be set up already if not try and reinstall them again you might aswel delete Kies unless you have a stock phone, what are you trying to do?

Ditch Kies and just use latest drivers. (2013/01)
Uninstall kies and previous drivers, install, reboot, connect.

Kill all process with kies in task manager. Use original cable, try to change usb port.
Put phone in download, open odin, connect phone.
Otherwise I don't know. Try another computer.
First connect your phone to pc.then open odin 3.07

That's true. I had an experience using fake cable with my old android phone, it's sucks..
I'm using the original cable on my Desktop computer work but on my laptop not. I think I will reinstall my windows.
since you succeeded in one computer and failed in the other to be recognized in the download mode then it's definitely from the computer itself...try what the guys said before and give us a feedback
please hit THANKS if I helped
