I received my Gear VR today and have attempted to install the software. It installed some of the software but at the blue screen where it says install App Manager / Oculus / Oculus Home, it downloads the 38.7 megs of files and then displays install error.
Has anyone seen this?
Edit: I am on ANJ5 firmware

I got the same thing, I'm Firekat for Vz Note 4 De.
Mine is completely stock locked down verizon note 4. I am currently switching to ART runtime to see if it helps.
What I had to do was go into applications manager / Samsung Gear VR Services / and clear data, and it worked...totally bizarre.

Do you have a Samsung phone? If not, did you install the actual Samsung apps? I believe there is one that has been modded to work with non Samsung phones.
Yeah. I'm running the official gear manager on the note 3.

I loaded the Great Britain tizen on my Gear, and all works, except the gear manager shows a blank screen for samsung app. Is this normal? are there any apps to sideload, and how do you do that?
Thanks!
Jim
No that's not normal. What build version did you flash?
There's no sideloading because it's Tizen based not android. Unless someone knows of Tizen apps not on the market.

Thanks for any help!
Phone is Galaxy note 3 running 4.4.2
You might have a bad download, or flash of NE9. Try downloading and re-flashing again. Or you can possibly download and flash the latest update ending with NF1.

OK, I'll try it. All I did was use odid v3.09 in defaults to flash over the android os. Could I have missed any steps?
I'll put the canadian (XAC) NF1 on it tonight,
I believe you did everything right. It's a simple process. Sometimes file downloads can be corrupt. I had one that kicked my butt for 2 days. I downloaded and it was fine.
Try the Canadian NF1 and see what happens. It's the one I'm on with my note 3 and all is well.

OK, thanks. It's just strange the error shows up on the gear manager, the watch is solid. should you remove the watch from gear manager before the update?
It's a good idea to do a complete fresh install and pairing. So when the gear connects uncheck the restore box so it doesn't try to reload old android apps.

define "fresh install"? I cannot uninstall gear manager. I did uncheck the restore box.
Thanks
On the gear enter stock recovery and perform a factory data reset. Use Odin to flash new firmware. When gear pairs with phone for first time do not restore old gear settings. Start fresh.

do you have a link to a known good canadian version. I downloaded from two sites and while the files are identical in size, they give a different MD5

I factory reset, and flashed the latest Canadian one, and there was no difference. Gear Manager shows no Samsung Apps. All else is fine. except I cannot get it to connect to bluetooth headphones for the media player.
Puzzled,

There appear to be a few of us United-Statesians who are having this problem, Jim. I experienced this issue on my Note 3 when i prematurely flashed Tizen, and another user in response to a thread I posted a week back noted that he experienced the issue as well.
At least you can rest assured that it is not just your phone or Gear.
I even flashed the XAR version of NF1 today, and still no luck.
Oddly, though, I was able to see the apps in the store for a short period of time, when the app store notified me of an update to watch styler. I've been able to reproduce the effect by installing an old version of watch styler, waiting a few minutes (anywhere from 15 to an hour), and then going into the app store for the update. For some reason, when the gear app store sees the need for an update, it allows you to view all of the apps on the store. Not sure if it works with updates to any other apps, but I don't see a reason that it woiuldn't. An odd workaround, I know, but it may work for you as well.
Good luck!
No apps fix
In my case I had my Samsung Gear updated from Android to Tizen (NE9 version) and my Note 3 updated the Gear Manager automatically, when detected Gear with Tizen.
I tried all the steps above with no luck, so I uninstalled the Gear Manager (from Galaxy apps application) and rebooted the phone. Installed a fresh version of Gear Manager from Galaxy Apps and after connected with watch everything worked. Now I can see many apps for my watch on Samsung Gear Apps.
I hope this helps!
Z.
I see that I received an update to the Gear Manager today. Now I can't connect the Galaxy S4 to the Gear 2 Neo. Anyone else having this problem?
Background:
Before I noticed the update (which had connected to the Neo just fine), I looked at the watch faces running under Multi Watch and saw they were corrupted (the number for the calendar had floated off to the upper right in the screen). So I decided to reset my watch. When I tried to connect, the watch and phone evidently exchanged PINs correctly, but the phone kept jumping back to the 'Connect' screen and wouldn't recognize the watch as connected.
The Gear keeps reverting to the "select the Gear you want your phone to connect to" screen.
Gear seems paired successfully in the phone's BT settings, but won't connect there either.
Multiple deletes of the Gear in the Bluetooth settings haven't worked. Uninstalled and reinstalled the Gear Manager several times. Cleared all the caches and data for Gear Manager several times.
S4 rooted with Towelroot; SuperSU installed. Root access granted to Titanium Backup, Memory Booster, Root Explorer. Formerly had BusyBox on it and xPosed framework (running Wanam). Uninstalled BusyBox and xPosed and Wanam.
Any ideas?
Did you reboot both the phone and the gear?
Last resort is to reset the gear. It is a pain, but is better than not having it connected. I had to do the same thing.
Yes - rebooted both the phone and the Gear 2 Neo several times. I've been able to test this with another Galaxy S4 and a Galaxy S5 and the Neo connects to both of them. Looks like the problem is in the app, or something that happened when my S4 got rooted.
Looks like the Gear 2 Neo goes back in the box until another update comes out for Gear Manager.

Another option is to remove the gear manager you installed from sammy and install the one found on this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2677686
And is the ROM you have on kitkat?
Good idea - tried it and got the same response. Couldn't find a version number on the one from the link, but I suspect it is the same as Sammy released today.
ROM is stock 4.4.2 Android from VZ - I545VRIFNC5. Rooted. I put BusyBox Pro back on there, and xPosed framework, and Wanam, but I haven't yet enabled Wanam.

Just had the same, what happened to me was that I flashed a new ROM, couldn't get it to connect just like yours.
Resolution was to flash another ROM, one that is basically stock.
Then the Gear Manager kicked in and installed all the relevant apps for the gear neo when I opened it.
I believe that the problem was with some missing files from the ROM I installed first when it stopped working.
I also had to go to get then newer "galaxy apps" from Samsung's mobile website..
You could make a backup and flash some other stock rooted ROM see if that helps..
Otherwise I don't know, this was just a a suggestion..

Question from a n00b
I was successful in rooting VRUFNC5, so here's my (probably noob) question:
Is there a VRUFNC5 file that I can put on the SDCard and use to reflash my phone to stock?
I am not experienced in using ODIN, and the instructions I've found here seem to presume a bit of knowledge that I am not confident I have.
If I can get it back to stock, I'll reconnect the Gear 2 Neo, and then re-root it.

I have the Gear VR Innovator edition and a Note 4. I just upgraded to stock Lollipop 5.1.1. I did a factory reset and when I try to install the Oculus software it says installing and then states it failed to install all the packages. It was working fine under Android 5.0.1. It does goes to the motion of downloading, it just fails to install.
Anyone having this issue? Any ideas how to fix it?
Thanks in advance!
Hello.
I'd like to know if someone can confirm if the Samsung Galaxy S10 Lineup is still compatible with Gear VR after the One UI 3.0/Gear VR. I'm looking foward to buy a SM-R325 and I want to know if I can still use it with my Galaxy S10e G970F on Android 11 or if I have to downgrade to Android 10.
Sorry if I've posted in the wrong section.
It works! I´ve tested mine last night on UI3/Android11 with Vodafone Branding
Has anyone been able to get an usb external drive to work? I had an external SSD that alerts that the drive is connected, but doesn't show up in Oculus, apps like Pigasis, Skybox, or Oculus Video... just the main phone and SD card folder systems. It worked for sure before the update. Looked at the permissions, and storage is allowed.
I have s10+ SM-G975F. Im on android 11, stock rom with magisk and twrp. And Gear VR works! I tried to get Gear VR working on other ROMs, but it's simply impossible. The problem is getting the Gear VR service app installed as a system app.

Thank you for this app share. I am trying to see if I can get my S21+ to work as I hate to lose this functionality. Lost alot of little things so far making the jump from my Note 8.
Out of curiosity did anyone get a network error message when trying to start the initialisation process?

Hello, how to install with Magisk ? please, thank you.
Hi,
Some months ago, Gear VR worked nicely in S10e Android 11 OneUI 3.1 (if you update your android beyond this, Gear VR is disabled (not supported). Even in S7 Android 8.0 SE 9.0 worked. But last update to Oculus system by Facebook/Meta has logged out the account and I can't log even though I've updated my oculus account to new Meta System, following the steps dictated by Meta.
