Share LTE connection via Tmobile tm-ac1900 router? - T-Mobile Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm between Internet providers at my house. I have the Tmobile tm-ac1900 router (the one made by asus).
Is it possible to somehow share my phones LTE connection thru the router to my LAN?
I thought that was an option of the router but I can't figure it out.
I hope this questions reads clearly.
Basic terms: house Internet is out, I want to use my phone LTE connection to supply Internet to my LAN through the router... So I would assume connect my phones wifi tethering somehow to the router as the WAN so it would supply Internet to my hardwired devices to the router.
Thanks in advance.

Maybe, pay your phone bill?

I would say no cause I don't see that on my router

You can try with a microUSB to USB cable. Under Setting / Tethering and Mobile Hotspot, there is the option to use USB tethering. I have never used USB tethering but it's worth a try. It all depends if the router can take an "internet" connection through USB...most common routers take a cable, RJ45 or RJ11 connection.

LOL... I'd actually have to pay my CABLE bill, but thanks for the suggestion anyway.
I was so sure I saw that option somewhere, to be able to share your LTE/mobile data connection with your local network? Of course I didn't care when I read it (or mis-read it as it were) and of course I can't find it now.
I've been using a USB wifi adapter and mobile tethering which works fine, but only for a single machine at a time.... and now that I have unlimited data - I'd like to use it, at least until I pay my cable bill anyway

You need something like that

Tilt to wireless router to laptop

Sorry if this is a repeat question. I looked through the archive, but couldn't find this question.
I haven't bought the Tilt yet, but what I want to be able to do is take a Tilt have it be connected to the 3G network and then connect to my wireless router as well. From there I would connect my laptop to the same wireless router but somehow use the 3G internet connection on the laptop. Is this easily doable?
I want to do this since when I get home I want to just keep the phone in one location where I get good reception and then be able to use my laptop where ever I move it in my house without having to move the phone and risk losing connection.
I will be buying a tethering plan.
Thanks for the help.
haven't tried this but i think u should be able to if u have internet sharing enabled.
Does the tilt come with internet sharing?
yes
but let me get this straight, you want to connect it this way
3G->tilt->router->pc
why do that when you can do
3G->tilt->pc
search for ics control, or wmwifirouter
Yes I was thinking the first way. I am not opposed to the second way, but I was curious how much range will a tilt give me as far as broadcasting on wifi?
I often watch tv in my basement and wasn't sure if the tilt wifi would be able to travel as well as my router which has an external antenae. Range was the only reason I introduce the router. It seems wmwifirouter may support what I want to do.
Well considering the phone can follow the laptop anywhere I would say range isn't a question. It's all wireless with batterys

Internet Sharing via wifi

Hi there
My Laptop does not have wireless and I am trying to use my Touch Diamond to connect to the wireless at uni so that I can browse the internet on my laptop at uni. I am having two problems figuring this out.
I can connect to the wireless on my diamond at uni to the work connection like the instructions tell me to. But I cannot seem to use this connection to browse the internet. I am not sure what I am doing wrong.
The next issue I have is that if I start the internet sharing tool I only have two options for the connection to share. The first is Telstra internet and the second is Telstra MMS I do not want to use these connections as i am on prepaid and all my credit would be gone in less than a minute.
I hope someone can give me some ideas as to what I am missing in this setup.
Thanks
Telstra Internet
I have now set the internet connection back to telstra but it doesn't want to load the telstra home page anymore. That is why I gave up last time. I wish I could use wifi when I have it and browse the free sites when I don't Telstra is very annoying.
Information
Hello, soon im gonna write a small guide as to how to use your phone incondunction with a router to allow all devices connected to the router to connect via the mobile phones internet connection. I understand that this is not what your askings as from my experence you will not be able to what your are asking. But if you have a unlimited data allowence then this would be a good option.
you need a router
you need wireless on your laptop (dongle/built in)
and some minor knowledge on setting up networks manually
keep your eyes out for the thread.

try to use wmwifirouter - it can use phones wireless and BT/USB connection to pc it will be a router for pc
Unsure
Thanks for your ideas although I might not have made myself clear.
The laptop does not have wireless. And I do not want to use the data connection on my phone as that will cost a fortune.
I wanted to get my phone to connect to the uniwireless and then allow my laptop to connect to the uni wireless for free internet via the phone.
I think I might just give up and buy a usb adaptor for the laptop.
Cheers
wmwifirouter does this !
Thanks
Oh ok, well I would have a look but i don't want to pay for it so im not going to try, especially as every time i have touched my network setup my free browsing stops working.
Thanks

Sharing data connection over wi-fi?

I have free unlimited data plan with my Diamond, and know that if using USB cable and PC I can get online using the phone as a modem.
What I was hoping somebody could help me with is can I share that same data connection on my phone over it's wi-fi signal, hopefully so i can use it while out and out to get my Sony PSP online?
there's an app called wmwifirouter that does just this it sets your diamond up as a wireless router very easy to use !
Short answer is yes...
... but then also depends on who your provider is. http://www.WalkingHotSpot.com is great.

fixing what ails ya - WiFi vs LTE

we've found the WiFi Calling and related SMS here is the states to be lacking.
Had T-Mo send me a 4G LTE Cellspot that connects to the interwebs.
Took about 20 mins to set itself up.
Bam!
5 bars all through the house and probably half way down the block.
Much mo better.
I just got one of them too. Much better than wifi calling. No airwaves competing for the available bandwidth. Have had much clearer calls and reliable texting. Plus I don't have to give out my wifi password to visitors, they just automatically connect to the cellspot.

haven't tried it with other providers that guests bring, but I figured LTE is LTE. So you have found that it works with other providers VzW, and them other 2?
Did you have to do anything to your home router?? I got one of these a few days ago and for the life of me I can't seem to find out what's wrong with mine as it doesn't work.
I think you have to bridge the two...
out of your incoming router, usually a yellow LAN port, to the in of the LTE cellspot, WAN green port.
Power it up and wait. I used the GPS antenna to get it moving faster. 20 mins. If at first it doesn't connect, reboot the cellspot and try again.
But unless there was something done to your incoming FiOS or Comcast or whoever on install, that should be it.
I have a Westell 7500 DSL router from Verizon, The LTE cellspot, and a Netgear r6400 wireless router.
The way I have things setup is:
My Netgear router is plugged into the LAN port on the cellspot, and the cellspot WAN is plugged into the Westell router on first ethernet port.
I turned off the firewall on my DSL router so the UDP ports are not being blocked. The only thing left that I can do on my side is setup bridge mode.
I also turned off the wireless broadcast from the Westell router.

westell wireless should have no effect, nor the firewall as I believe that is OEM install.
I would think that both the cellspot and Netgear should be plugged into a yellow LAN port on the Westell.
Perhaps the passthru of the Netgear on the cellspot is messing with the cellspots head.
Try that config and reboot your westell, then the cellspot.
I do use the passthur on my cellspot to an Ooma box and have no issue. Dunno why a router would be any different, but give it a try.
Also perhaps 2 other ports on the westell. I believe there are 4 yellow LAN ports on it.
Then there is this, which I'd think T-Mo would have covered with you before they sent you the cellspot.
Is there a minimum internet speed requirement for T-Mobile 4G LTE CellSpot?
Minimum internet speeds of 2Mbps downlink and 512Kbps uplink are recommended.
So you should check you DSL speed.

No, it will not work for other providers. Just for TMO. It creates VPN back to tmo with the same authentication methods of regular towers. That would be cool. If it could double up for other others.

Well, I don't care so much for WiFi calling but for internet, my 5GHz WiFi network connection averages 125 Mbps and that's because of the phone hardware. My line gets 300 Mbps.
Those dippy-do's (explicit words) at t-mobile never activated my cell spot till 2 days ago. Now everything is working normal.
Did the cell spot cost you any money? I live right between the edges of two towers, and while I get 50-70mbps two miles down the road, at my neighborhood it is terrible. Calls drop, data is slow, etc. Wifi calling can be great when it works, but it rarely works for more than 10 minutes straight.

There is a $25 refundable deposit, and this thing works much better than wifi calling.

Setting up chromecast without WiFi

So I'm in the army right now, which means there's a TV but no WiFi available.
I did think of just setting up a Hotspot with another phone but it gets pretty annoying having to have 2 people at all time.
So I went digging in the Internet and found someone at a random forum (can't find it now for credit..), that said that If you set up the Hotspot in your own phone and configure it with another one you don't need the other one around anymore - being the Hotspot works as being connected to it.
Now I'm pretty sure there shouldn't be any reason I couldn't set it up on my own phone (the hotspot), except the Google home app just demands I connect to the WiFi network, which I can't do because you can't connect to yourself sadly.
I think if someone made some changes to the Google home app, or made an alternative set up app it could work. I have no idea how to code an app, so I came here ?
tl:dr I Want an app that does the same as the home app for setting chromecast up, but without checking if I'm connected to a WiFi network. (I think)
I'm guessing that you have no WiFi but you do have a hard line internet connection?
The only issue with what I'm going to suggest is that base rules may prohibit creating a WiFi access point on any of their hardline connections.
But the best solution for you is to buy a Portable Router (see posts here about using CCast in a Hotel).
It's a small box about the size of a DC transformer that plugs into the outlet and also any Network to create a small footprint WiFi access point.
I suggest looking for a model that also has Repeater mode that allows it to connect to another WiFi access point to create your own private network as opposed to a hard line.
It is probably the best way to use a CCast in places where WiFi is not available without having to play with Phone Hotspot which doesn't always work due to the fact the hotspot can't control the CCast in that mode.
The other Option that is most likely to be allowed is to add a WiFi puck to your Mobile account. Then there would be no potential compromising of the Military network (which is why they might not allow the Portable Router to be used) and you would no longer need two phones to run the CCast.
CCast definitely needs Internet so that Puck might be the safest and best way forward for you.
As for what you read...The issue is that if the Phone goes out of range it stops working.

Actually, no Internet at all, just mobile data, but since I got 15 gigs it's OK for me to use it.

To be honest, it is a good idea but my I was mainly wondering if I could solve it via software which is both easier obviously and also I just wanted to know if it's actually possible since I thought of it and I wanna know if I got it right

Not really...All the hacks and such that people try simply don't work well due to the fact that the Phone can't really connect to the same subnet as the Hotspot. When you go into Hotspot mode you can't also connect to that hotspot internally because WiFi is no longer available to the phone.

That's why i suggested tempering with the app so it treats being a Hotspot as if u were with WiFi on connected to one.
Basically take off the check for being connected to WiFi.

The issue isn't the app...It's the fact that the WiFi in your phone can only do one thing at a time....BE an Access Point or CONNECT to an access point.
It can't connect to itself as the radio can't do both things at once.
So when you go into hotspot there is no way to get on the same subnet as the hotspot with the phone.
Because there is no network adapter available to connect to it. It is too busy being an access point.
Basically going into hotspot turns the Phone into a router. A router the phone has no way to connect to. So you either need another device to connect to that phone router or find some other router with internet.
Which is what the Cellular Puck will give you.

Like I said, once the setup is done, being the Hotspot is just like being connected to is. The app still doesn't recognize you're connected but if you're on the web the chromecast icon does pop up when needed, all the third party apps do recognize you as being connected.
All you managed to do with Google Home (which can't be edited by anyone but Google)on the second phone is connect your CCast to the Phone Hotspot for it's Internet. There is no way to avoid that setup....HOWEVER...
As long as you don't set it up to connect to some other Hotspot there is no need to run Home again, Just turn on Hotspot and it should reconnect.
It will even remember the password,

Yea I know, but sometimes friends take it or something and it's a pain in the ass to explain everything, and even when I do it means I gotta reconnect at my end again which is annoying just thought someone could maybe find a solution that sounded really simple for me, guess not, too bad..
Thanks anyway!
Well trying to recode Home is a dead end....Android wouldn't even let you install it!
You guys should just chip in and buy the puck.
It will even let you use Tablets and Laptops as well as simplify the CCast use.
I know this is an older post; not sure if you are still interested. I read all the replies and not sure what to make of it as far as if anyone had a working solution or not. No disrespect to anyone, but I couldn't tell for sure so I'm posting a link to my solution which does work. The two important steps are included. One is using " other wifi" in the drop down list when searching for your hotspot. The second is enabling GUEST MODE.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/help/how-to-cast-screen-android-phone-to-t4032653
I’m trying something similar with a Chromecast 3rd gen and iPhone 5S (iOS 12). Main issue seems to be guest mode doesn’t work at all on any apps, and pretty much every solution i’ve seen to this results in guest mode being used for the eventual casting. If you have android or iOS 13 then ymmv.
The only solution i’ve found are workarounds, the obvious being
1) don’t buy a chromecast (it’s not much of a solution but hey it’s $30).
2) use a secondary device to cast.
3) use a tethered travel router, and this can be done with only a phone and mobile data for internet, but there’s a catch:
First i’d Recommend any router by GLi.net (cheapest “mango” router is about $20) as they support iOS and android and both WiFi and usb tethering.
Also, i’ve Tried using a WiFi hotspot on the phone, and it’s the same issue - no connection to the chromecast regardless of how. However... iPhones will allow you to create a hotspot using *only* cables usb tethering, so if you set the router up to *only* accept internet via cables tether (turn off WiFi/repeater tethering), then you can have both the chromecast and iPhone connect to the routers WiFi, whilst providing net access to the router (and WiFi network) from the same iphone’s mobile data via usb. Simple howoto:
Important: Turn OFF WiFi on the phone, and turn off hotspot.
Connect phone to router via usb, accept trust settings.
Turn on personal hotspot, you’ll get a message asking whether to use WiFi or just usb (andbluetooth if it’s also turned on). Select just usb/Bluetooth.
Wait until blue connection bar shows on phone (if not, make sure routers setup properly to gain net via usb tethering).
Now, turn on WiFi on the phone, and connect to routers WiFi.
Setup chromecast as normal, selecting to connect to routers WiFi too.
Note turning hotspot off and on again whilst WiFi is running will start a hotspot on WiFi and disconnect you from router WiFi, so you’ll always have to go through process of turning WiFi off, turn hotspot on, turn WiFi on.
So you can do this with the right router and a usb connection to phone. Or maybe android and working guest mode. Otheriwse, ...fire tv anyone?
