My galaxy note kernel version is DXLC2 (malaysia)
Did I need to downgrade my kernel version frist???
I suggest you don't root your phone otherwise it will be too troublesome for you, i.e. do a lot of reading, keep up with development (which also need a lot of reading), fine tuning your custom ROM (which also need a lot of reading), the list will never ends (which unfortunately needs much reading as well!).

Yes, you should downgrade first in order to get root. Here's a little guide I wrote on how to do it, hope it helps:

Hey danwteik,
Indeed you need to do some further researching before proceed for rooting as I believe you don't want to screw your phone up.
But as long as you're prepared, you're OK. Am too a newbie to Android and after lots of research, I've successfully root & flash my phone to custom rom as well.
Just follow this guide from Ashwin, great step by step guide and you won't need to worry much as you can proceed as per the video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cJjh6gi0Spw
Just like the firmware from the video, go download it from Dr Ketan's thread:

questions regarding root
hi all xda guys,
I am new to droid and love it thus far...
after having my galaxy note for a few weeks and doing some reading, ive decided i want to root my phone to have the best working phone possible HOWEVER im completely clueless when it comes to being this technologically adept. so i hae a few questions as follow:
1. ive read the root thread and see that there are a few different options for rooting, in everyones opinion which is the best / easiest to perform the most basic root to unlock my phone, root it and be able to install custom items.
2. CWM i assume means clock work mod...what is this mod exactly? and why is it important to install along with the root?
3. my phone settings read that my kernel version is 2.6.35.11..one rooting option i believe requires you finding out which kernel your running and they list kernels as kk## etc. how do i figure out exacty which kernel I am if it only reads the previously listed kernel version?
4. what exactly does it mean when someone told me theyre going to instal custom kernels? ( i have a friend who just bought and rooted a new Samsung GS2 and im curious as to what this means)
5. i've read the rooting directions and watched videos posted and googled my brains out...does anyone know where i can go to find the most basic and simplest explanation and directions for rooting my GN? (if youre reading and got this far and saying the explaination in the root thread IS THE EASIEST it can be....i need something dumbed down to the level a 2 year old can understand....this stuff is mind-boggling confusing for me for some reason i cant wrap my head around the process or the concept)
6. i basically want to root my phone for these reasons
- to figure out and manage to make my phone use less running ram to run faster
- to be able to install or customize the phone to make my battery last longer
- to be able to do whatever it takes to tether my phone without having to pay for it in my data plan
-to be able to install or whatever it is that allows me to customize my phone (themes, fonts, icons, etc)
- to use my phone worldwide on different carriers without having to pay for unlocking, buying other sim cards etc.
- to install or whatever to have my phone do amazingly cool stuff. (this isnt as important as 1-5 but hey who doesnt want a phone that can do everything and then some?
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE SOMEONE HELP! i've googled it and asked friends and even have contacted someone on craigslist who offers a service for a nominal fee. but im smart and smart enough technologically speaking that i can figure it out.
i just need someone to sit down with me and explain everything step by step and answer my questions. PLEASE i'm willing to do anything and everything possible to learn and re-pay someone for their awesome-ness and sharing their intelligence.
someone something, please help a fellow user out.
*i'd even go so far as to pay-pal someone a few bucks or bake you a cake and ship it to you. im that serious.
please guys,
XDA rocks, droid rocks, YOU rock, just help me out...i've spent 5 days trolling xdas forums and other sites and forums and have just gotten more confused. someone dumb this down for me!

Hi,
I just got my Galaxy Note last week and would like to root it. I found the link below and would like to check with you guys first if they really work. I could not post on that thread for I'm a new member. I think some of you have posted in that thread too. Please help.

About my phone:
Kernel Version: ...-N7000DXLC2-...
Android Version: 2.3.6

1.) Can I use the this:
3*Files No-Wipe N7000DXLC2_CSC_N7000OLBLC2 Singapore (16.03.2012)
2.) Can I use Odin3 v1.85?
3.) Can I still unroot after this?
4.) I just need the PDA file to gain root access and ensure No-Wipe?
Thanks in advance.

2.yes
3.yes, flash with Stock ROM with PC odin, will unroot it.

Hello Friends.
I am very keen on getting started with the Rooting process for my Galaxy Note. I have been reading and trying to comprehend the various methods of achieving root but it seems overwhelming and daunting.
I reiterate what I have stated in another thread, I am an infant in this domain. I feel much too confused presently and thus I humbly request you to please guide me one step at a time.
At the very beginning, I aspire to achieve two motives. They are -
1] Root my device
2] Back up the stock ROM
My device details are :
Model number
GT-N7000
Android version
2.3.6
Baseband version
N7000XXKK5
Kernel version
2.6.35.7-N7000XXKKA-CL726566
[email protected] #2
Build number
GINGERBREAD.XXKKA
I thank you in advance for continuing to have patience with me.
Hello people,
I am fairly new to this forum and I have the following questions that I would appreciate help for.
1. Has any one rooted the I9305, HongKong ( ZHBLJ1 ) Build using the Toolkit? This build is not there in the Toolkit model selection options for I9305.
2. Can we flash the CWM intended for I9300 on our I9305 ?
Thanks in advance!

The most simpler way to root at the moment is this:forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2050297
As an extra you'll get a patch to security hole of exsynos syst3m.
Regarding recovery dont know for cwm but you can use goo manager from the market to flash TWRP. Just open the optios and choose something like 'install the open recovery script'.
For the case yiu are wondering, yes I am using GS3 LTE I9305.

TWRP works for the i9305? I don't think so, the official site doesn't state it and I have not seen anywhere else that it has been ported. Then again, I haven't tried it myself

I am terribly sorry. You are right. The problem was I have both GN 2 and SG3, was tired and so mixed the devices...
Regarding root method, that works on both devices.
Here is a link for the case OP wants to install CWM:
www.androidauthority.com/galaxy-s3-gt-i9305-root-clockworkmod-recovery-126605/
Here is the direct link to xda thread in dev section;
forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1914394
I will also try flashing twrp later when i find time and report back.
Regarding the toolkit, that's actually a question for the dev. I am going to ask him that by myself, I have donated version and since he has a thread in dev section of I9305 he should have some knowledge about this and what for his toolkit can actually be used with LTE SG3.

Is there anything I need to take care of before rooting using the first method? Apart from the usual backup of data? Any issues with the Camera as mentioned in that thread? (this is pertaining to our I9305 specifically).
Thank you, I will track that Toolkit thread for I9305 as well!

You got link for CWM? Regarding camera problem, it doesn't have anything to do with rooting. It happens on some devices if one ticks 'patch hole' or whatever. I personally didn't have that problem but another one which maybe isn't related to the patch. It happened only once, a day ago, couldn't hear anything when calling someone or when someone was calling me. Reboot 'solved' it.
To bad that the best SG3 edition receives so little support from devs. It is probably Samsung's fault. They even change encryption method, or some parts of it, so for example with note 2 I am not able to use twrp when encrypted. In feature I am going to buy probably only nexus devices even galaxy note feature editions could pose a temptation. Bit soon we will be getting devices with 1080 resolution and hopefully there will be nexuses with bigger screen.

Yes from the link you gave, Thanks. I am having the problem that the CWM doesn't stick and I get the stock recovery back after the reboot.. They are talking about the /system/boot-recovery.p file which isn't on my phone. It has the /system/recovery-from-boot.p file. Are they the same file ?
Even I am surprised that our S3 model has such little support here. I am hoping that it will only get better as many people get their hands on this!! :good:
Hello, as this information may already be posted please be patient as I am new to this site. I have a 32gb HP touchpad that I would like to install android on. Is there a thread or threads that someone could point me to for this installation process. Also, once android is added, will there be automated updates? I have done a great deal of research on this and it seems most of the android installation information is 6 months old or older. I would like to install android in its most recent form to the touchpad. Thanks.

I used the latter and it's very easy!
So I recently purchased a Logitech k400 keyboard/trackpad combo for my raspberry pi, as well as taking it around with my N10 if necessary. However, for whatever reason, the tablet just won't recognize the keyboard plugged in over OTG. I've tested it on my N7 and it works like a charm. I've done some research and realized that this is pretty much universal.
Is there any way to get the N10 to recognize the keyboard? An app or something?
Thanks!
The drivers for the Unifying receiver are not included in the N10 Kernel.
With the Kernel from craigacgomez it will work:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1998585&highlight=unify
You can find his standalone Kernels here:
http://goo.im/devs/craigacgomez/manta/
I'm using the "manta-kernel-stock-cgomez.23112012.zip" and its working pretty good.
Hopefully Google will add the drivers with the next Update.
Works properly with KToonz Kernel as well:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2015874
Am i just supposed to flash those over stock, or is there a custom ROM that goes with them?
I flashed "manta-kernel-stock-cgomez.23112012" over Stock 4.2.2.
I have some "normal Nexus 10 Problems" with reboots and lags, but I'm quite sure its not the Kernel.
Try both and tell us your experiences

Hi rbirahul,
If you're rooted and know how to flash a rom & kernel, then it's easy. If not, You'll need to understand this first before going forward.
All I did was I have this rom installed here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2177978
and then I installed the kernel below:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2015874
That's all you need really. The keyboard will work with this setup.

Hi Glensta,
No I have never rooted any android device. That is why I have been reading about it. So following are the option which I though of trying.
You have asked to get flashable zip file from below link.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2015874
I hope below is zip file
http://www.mediafire.com/download/spi7ichqvf32dz1/KTManta-05-14-2013.zip
Not sure how to flash zip file. So downloaded toolkit from below link. It has all options like root, flash, boot...... but not sure what is the correct way as I am afraid that I may get into issues.
http://www.wugfresh.com/nrt/
I downloaded toolkit from above link. Install required drivers for toolkit to couple with nexus 10. Now I think I am one or two step away from what I need to do but I am afraid to do that. Do I need to always root android device to flash zip file?
If you think that I should not get into all these issues and drop this idea then let me know. I really don’t want to damage on my new N10.

Hi rbirahul - I'm sure the wugfresh toolkit works fine. I prefer this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2001868.
start there and then follow the steps I've suggested already. There's plenty of info out there and it's not as hard as it seems. Believe me I've put plenty & plenty of hours into learning and made plenty of mistakes, but never damaged my nexus 10 beyond repair. You'll need to do your home work.
Also - when someone helps you, hit the "thanks" button as a show of appreciation.

Yes I think I should explore more on this and I will. I request you to answer few last queries?
1) Can I flash .img or .zip file without rooting the device?
2) Should I flash directly KTManta-05-14-2013.zip or I should unzip and flash boot.img?
Thanks,

2) Should I flash directly KTManta-05-14-2013.zip or I should unzip and flash boot.img?
Thanks,
rbirahul

First learn how to root your device. Start here, Zedomax has great easy to understand videos for beginners.

Then next learn how to flash a rom.
Finally learn how to flash a kernel.
All that information is out there and not hard to find. Good luck

How does the keypad / button work? Can you simulate moving your finger around the screen and tapping?
Thanks in advance,

Hi guys,
I recently bought this phone, the LG optimus 4x hd. Like appears on the title I would like to install the cyanogenmod, specifically the version 4.1.2 which is the last version of most stable, according to wiki.cyanogenmod. So the problem is that in this page wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/Install_CM_for_p880 , which I think should be the right place in which see how to install the cyanogenmod, there are some part missing. Installing CyanogenMod from recovery ok, there is the guide, but there is nothing about the recovery process and I don't know if any other steps are required for the installation. The phone has got the stock rom, I have not touched anything. So I would need the guide to install the cyanogenmod in the phone with stock rom. I apologize if , like I think, this is the 20 billion time when someone asks that kind of things but I haven't find what I need. Thank you and sorry for my not best english

It's the only one guide, or there are any others?

There are plenty of guides on here for gaining root, unlocking your bootloader, flashing recovery etc. CWM doesn't cover that stuff because they expect you to know how to do it, or be intelligent enough to search and find out.
