Official CM12 - Moto X Q&A

The charging rate is very slow, only about 10% per hour... Anyone facing the same ??

Get gsam and see what it shows your mA at when charging.
It could be a cm glitch, no doubt..... But it could be an app causing issue or a bad quality cable or charger too. ?

I use CM12 on my HTC One (m7, GSM) since 2-3 Days and I have no major problems until now. I had around 2 random-restarts.
I am very satisfied with it and would never change back.
Only problems I got:
- I wanted to do a hotspot to surf on the internet with my laptop. The hotspot appeared in the Wifi-List, but I wasn't able to connect. Maybe I did something wrong.
- I once wasn't able to activate the wifi on the device. But a restart fixed this.
Android 5 is ultra fast compared to other versions I used. It looks very good and the apps start/end with nearly speed of light. Everything runs very smooth.
PS: I didn't encounter the "battery draining" or the "slow charging" problem. This is around the same as before. I hoped that the replacement of Dalvik would bring more efficiency on games (device heats up if you play for example "Boom Beach"), but this is the same as before.
PPS: Here is what I HATE about android 5:
You cannot disable the google bar on the top of each home screen. I also tried to freeze it using "Titanium Backup Pro", but this leads to a crash of the whole homescreen. I hate, how google tells us what there has to be an what not. The only solution I found on the net is, that you install the Nova launcher or something similar.
Cheers,
Trudler

The mobile data also don't work though the data is on and the data icon shows.... I'm on moto x xt1052.... Anyone facing ?

[Q] Phone runs hot, High Drain - All usual fixes tested.

Device: Samsung Galaxy S GT i9000
Symptoms:
When Charging Device is hot to the Touch in the upper half of the screen and on the rear between the camera and the heat vent.
Battery drains at around 15-25% per hour when IDLE. 15% when in deep sleep in airplane mode with ALL APPS KILLED. 25% when I leave ALL network connections open and allow sync.
Phone was new less than 2 months ago. Still under warranty and I will send it back if no ideas come from this but wanted to see if anyone had a solution as I have noticed HUNDREDS of similar posts all vaguely scattered through different threads on different sites around the web and this seems like the definitive place to come to see if anyone can put their finger on it.
When did this occur?:
A short while after (days) of flashing CM9 nightly from the beginning of June (05/06 I think but can't recall exactly).
Tests performed:
Purchased new battery and fully charged - no change.
Flashed stock GB ROMs where the issue had not occured - no change.
Cleared battery stats several times - no change.
Tried different modems/radios including Nexus S radios- no result
Current ROM: CM 7.2
Kernel: Glitch 13.1
Other ROMs/Kernels where the same results were achieved...
CM9 (latest nightlies)
Stock JVU, JVS, JW4 and JW5
Semaphore Kernel, Devils Kernel
I use Voodoo Sound/Colour kernels apart from the testing I did with stock ROMs
Will leave it on over night after clearing stats so you can see for yourselves.
Any questions ask away.
I should add:
Used OS Monitor and one of the more detailed CPU monitors to look at what was going on.
Did not appear at any time to be using what I would consider high CPU utilisation, typically trending between 0 and 30ish. No background apps running, all radios turned off.
The only anomaly that stuck out at me is that system_server was using ~105% of RAM which I would have thought was rather difficult. Made me wonder if there was something loading/unloading itself from RAM.
As I am a heavy music user I have tested the Mediaserver issue where corrupt files are continually scanned by mediaserver process. Removed all media files from both my external and internal storage then formatted both while on a stock ROM (JVU and JW4). There was no change.
EDIT: I should add - The thing that makes this so strange to me is that the battery decreases at a rapid rate when Battery stats regarding usage DO NOT CHANGE. The percentages for the apps that WERE using the battery - i.e. winamp/mediaserver/android system do not change.
The reason I have posted this is that i have seen literally HUNDREDS of people posting this very same issue but never in the same place and never getting an answer.
Also - Thankyou to the kind mod/admin who approved my account so I can edit stuff. It was getting a bit annoying for the first week there.
Re
Hi,
To be honest I never heard/read of the problem you are describing. Most users report high battery drain on a certain ROM/kernel/modem but you say you have tried quite a lot.
If the phone is new, the only thing that comes to mind is that the USB charging socket is faulty. It may not charge properly or even have some bad connectors that are damaging the battery.
In any case, Samsung support is the way to go here.
Hope this helps
OMG, im having the same exact problem... the phone is super hot on the back where the sim card is inserted. I did everything as you, still no change, my battery lasts like 7 hours on deep sleep. Guess our phone is broken. super crap.
Anyone knows how to fix this? Is there anyway that my phone has some files from previous custom roms even though used odin to flash samsung original ones?
Had the same problem when my device was only 6 months old, the battery was becoming faulty, got a new battery and problem solved.
I bought a new battery and i still have the same problem... which battery did u get?

An official samsung battery from Amazon, re flash you device with another rom and wipe battery stats.
Did all that, the problem still continues... mega battery drain and the phone is at 44C degrees... is there any tool i can use to diagnose the problem?
Hi snaleman,
You could try BetterBatteryStats, to help diagnose your issue further, there is a paid version on the market (Google Play Store). There is also a thread on this forum, from the dev....hint
I tried winamp for android, ages ago, but had similar issues. (This player might well be your issue.) So I now use "PowerAmp". Neutron MP is cool too.
Also, do you use lippol94's kernel cleaning script. I use this every kernel/ROM change.
Search here for this:
ultimate_kernel_cleaning_script
Hope this info helps your baby.
Hey
U can try to flash a stock rom from sammmobile.com..
Use it for a few days and check...may help u..

Backup your apps with titanium backup or something else.
Make a backup from CWM recovery
Wipe data/cache/dalvik
Restore user apps and not system app
If your problem is not fixed you can restore your CWM backup
Nothing you guys posted worked... battery lasts 11 hours on sleep...
Another problem that im facing is that when im on a phone call, theres is alot of breaks in the other persons voice and sometimes the voice call goes out and i lose all my network signal.
If you are using the Voodoo sound app that may be the cause. I've noticed on my phone that deep sleep no longer works when the voodoo app is installed, most likely the app is holding a partial wake lock and not releasing it.
See if it happens with the app uninstalled or frozen.

You've just made me think of something else that it may be.
Do you have 4 or 5 bars of signal strength?
I've found when in certain areas (very close to "deadspots" in network reception), that if I use another frequency, [eg. 900 & 2100 (for my network), yours may be different] I can get a better signal, also much better battery life, as the phone is not struggling to reach the network.
If you use your dialer to enter this code
*#*#197328640#*#*
Then
[1] DEBUG SCREEN
THEN
[8] PHONE CONTROL
then
[7] NETWORK CONTROL
then
[2] BAND SELECTION
you will then have a selection of frequencies available. The asterisk * will tell you what one(s) is/are active.
"Google" your network service providers frequency bands. I found mine were on a "Wiki" page.

[Q] 4.3 update issues - worth doing a factory reset?

I have an international S3 LTE i9305 (unrooted) and took the OTE update to 4.3 a few weeks ago, after much deliberation about whether to risk it. In the end it was more finger trouble than decision, I hit the wrong button when I meant to postpone it again!
It hasn't been too bad since the update but there are a few issues. I have googled it of course but much of the information relates to the i9300 not the i9305, and to the earlier versions of the update. I only got the notification of an update in Jan 2014 so I guess its a later build and maybe some of the original bugs have been fixed (or replaced with different bugs!).
Issues I have noticed:
Audio playback skips quite frequently regardless of which player I use or whether the file in on the internal or external SD card
Battery consumption is worse. After a day of light usgage I could previosuly still have 50-60% battery, now its regularly down to 30% or less.
Wireless charging behaviour is odd. If the phone is still powered on its works as normal (phone displays wireless charging message, screen goes off and charging light is on). If the phone is off it used to display a wireless symbol something like a battery with circles around it, then the battery with the remaining charge level in green, then the screen goes off and the red charging light comes on until its charged then the light goes green. Since the update it doesn't display the wireless symbol any more, it just displays the battery symbol but its all grey like its at 0%. Eventually the screen dims then turns off but the charging light doesn't come on. It does seem to charge normally like it did before though.
I am using an HTC USB power supply with the wireless charger. When I used the Samsung one sometimes it appeared to be charging but after being left overnight the battery level had barely increased. It sometimes does the same thing with the Samsung charger plugged in ie not wireless.
I have 3 (dumb) questions. I apologise for my lack of knowledge!
Is a factory reset likely to fix any of these, or alternatively make anyting worse?!
I have the options checked to backup settings to google and automatically restore. If I do a factory reset, what happens? I think I did it once and it downloaded all my apps from the Play store automatically but how much of the settings will be restored? I also have MyBackup Pro which should be able to restore a lot of stuff but not the app settings. I have a lot of stuff installed so I don't want to go through the pain of setting it all up again if its not going to fix the problems anyway.
I have included all the versions numbers below from my system info, can anyone tell me what they mean?
On the plus side, since the update my phone remembers Swype it the default keyboard and I don't have to select it every time I turn the phone on.
Small update - I enabled the CPU usage overlay in Developer Options this morning to see if it would tell me anything, then disabled it again because I couldn't even read it. Since then the audio playback seems to have been OK, but its only been a couple of hours.
Android 4.3
Baseband I9305ZHUCMK1
Kernel 3.0.31-2377771
Build JSS15J.I9305ZHUCNA1

Thanks.
Are any of the app settings backed up to my google account? If not is there any way to back them up so I don't have to configure everything again, without being rooted?

Your Google account does not back up a lot of things - settings for downloaded apps and among other things SMS texts. I use the free app Mobile Backup & Restore from Trend Micro.

I opened a similar topic few weeks ago, did a full reset, mainly for problems regarding the battery, haven't noticed significant changes, my only solution was changing the battery with the original extended, 3000 mah, now I can reach evening without problems... But with the regular 2100 with heavy use I wasn't anymore able to get past 6 pm.

Well. That depends on individual usage. It could be helpful to know screen on time, network connection, used apps/sync.
Always after update it's suggested to perform factory reset. About backup... Well. Tons of apps work better after clean install on newer version of OS. Ofc I'm not taking about small updated related to bug fixes/optimalisation but upgrading from 4.1 to 4.3 for example. It cost less effort than searching which app cause the problem and usability of Rom in our android devices.

Terrible phone

Has anyone else had these issues? I am planning to take this phone back tomorrow. The touch screen is completely random. It'll randomly scroll fast or click while scrolling. Playing games is near impossible because it won't recognize every touch. As i type this, it seems to randomly repeat words that i type and i have to delete them. The battery life for a new phone seems terrible. I had better battery life with my 1+ year old S5 with the original battery. If the phone is hot at all (which seems to happen randomly as well) it'll take hours to charge and the battery will drain incredibly quick. I charged it for around 6 hours and it was still at 60%, using the factory charger too. This is the worst experience I've had with a new "high end" android phonephonw (theres theres the double word issue i mentioned. Even did it while typing about the double word issue lol)

Check settngs - About Phone - Software info and see if your software version is LS991ZV5. This version of the software fixed the touchscreen for me. If you haven't received it yet, you may check your local Sprint repair center store and see if they can force a download for you.
I still have the touch screen problems with zv5

Abnormal battery consumption in wifi

Hi, I'm noticing an abnormal battery consumption when the phone is connected in wifi (about 7-10% per hour in standby) and I can see the lower arrow of data connection always on, so some apps are constantly download data. I have tried to close several apps manually (even system app) but nothing has changed. In 4G instead all is fine. Do you have any idea what the problem might be?
I did notice this, too in the newest firmware.
Did even check if there is much traffic (can see it per app in adguard), but nothing.
Workaround for me is to disable wifi if in standby.
(Doesn't help if in usage of cause...)

What apps are showing at the top in battery usage?
Have you thought of installing BBS, there is a version that runs on non-root.
Does RCSService show up in battery usage?
Just in case it might help our op:
After 1day 12 hours (35min SOT):
Standby 11%
Mobile net in standby (sorry need to translate it) 6%
Deezer 6%
AdGuard 4%
Android OS 4%
Android-System 2 %
Bluetooth 1%
Display 1%
--> This should make 35%, but well, the phone shows 60% left, so still 5% are missing (I suppose it's just "other" apps >1%).
Phone still showing 2 days 4 hours to go.

I can see: Google Play services, RCS, Google Play Store, Android Operating System, Chrome, Wifi, Memory.
For installing BBS, for what I could read, you need to install via adb and for now I don't do it.
However, if I reboot the phone when I see this strange behavior, keeping always wifi on, then the phone returns to normal operation, and the battery consumption is normal. The problem starts when I turn on the wifi manually, with the phone already switched on.
Hi,
i have this problem too (not rooted, last firmware).
About 6% / hour if connect the xz1c to wifi.
If i simply restart the phone (with wifi on), it decreases to less than 1% / hour.
Did someone find the cause or a solution?
Thank you.
I opened discussions in Sony Mobile forums:
International
Italian
If you want, write about your issue there.
Maybe it will help to be solved.
Thank you.
Same problem here. I replied in the RCS thread, but on the latest 2 firmwares I lose about 7%/hr (idle drain) with wifi on and less than 1%/hr with wifi off. My phone also gets hot when I keep wifi on while idle. I've solved the problem by keeping wifi off except during large downloads, and I have a high enough data cap for that to be a reasonable option. Still annoying though.
Has anyone checked if there is a difference when WiFi scanning is disabled?
Good day.
I do not currently own a xz1C, but in my Galaxy S8 had the same issue, until i turned off "WiFi scanning" like user 'pseudonym58' said.
I have WIFI scanning OFF.
(the one in wifi-settings and the one in google-localization)

Hi guys,
yesterday i tried to see if Play Store in XZ1C was updated.
(play store, setting, tap on version)
It wasn't.
Tapping on version, it downloaded last version (8.9.24)
I rebooted the phone.
Battery drain on Wifi seems reduced (with my two modems) or maybe solved.
I'm monitoring the situation and i'll let you know.
Strangely it's 2 or 3 days the problem seems gone, I don't know if the reason for the change is the updating of some app or service. Play Store has been updated yesterday but the problem was already gone before. For now all is ok.
@aerofan
What version is installed now on your device?
(Btw I can press the version 100 times, it always tells me it downloading a new version )

I have 8.9.24.
This is what i did:
I tapped on version.
It said "google play will be updated" (or something similar)
I waited for a while (no notifications or messages appeared)
I came back on google play and tapped on version and it said it was updated.
I rebooted the phone.
Strange, I had an older version installed but it would not update.
I uninstalled all updates for the playstore and searched again: 8.9.24
Edit: Didn't fix the battery consume
I am experiencing the same issue. I have not checked on the google playstore version yet.
As soon as I switch wify on my battery loss is about 5-6% an hour when doing nothing. There is also no program standing out in the battery menu. When adding the consumption times there is a huge gap that cannot be explained. RCS phone shows up, but only with minor usage.
I will be back to you after checking the version of google playstore. Hopefully it does the trick.
Edit: I disabled automatic updates of google playstore and rebooted the phone. Battery consumption looks normal now. I then switched on auto update again. It still looks good.
Edit: Battery drain can temporarily be fixed with rebooting the device. Updating the playstore or disabling automatic updates did not work for me. Any other ideas?
Hi,
I have same problem with my battery life, it's quite fitfully.
I've checked that my battery can stand 3 days and 7h of screen on, but on the other hand sometimes my battery only can stand 1 days and 2'5h of screen on.
I make a very undemanding and very similar daily use of the XZ1 Compact
I have my xz1 Compact totally updated: Firmware v.47.1.A.12.119 PlayStore v.9.4.18 and disabled all of uncommon scannings (Wi-Fi,BT,Location,etc..)
My router has 2.4ghz band only enabled and WPA-PSK security, during the night I specially have good and strong Wi-Fi signal in XZ1 Compact.
So...Does anyone know what may be happening? I really appreciate your help.
Thanks.
Wifi battery drain was improved on the past few firmwares for me, but it's now back with a vengeance. This is on 47.1.A.12.235 (July patch). Absolutely massive drain during the times when wifi was on, with almost no screen use during that time. I resorted to turning wifi off.

The 5Ghz band uses a lot of juice, maybe the latest firmware pushes the phone to use that frequency by default. To test this try seperating the 5Ghz and 2.4Ghz frequencies on your home router and joining the 2.4 with your phone.
This is just a hunch on my part, but I can't back it up with any proof.

Note 8 Super Fast Battery Drain And Lag!!

Rooted Note 8/FD 64gb with exposed installed.
Fully charged. From 100 to 90 took only 25 minutes using phone normally with wifi.
And also it charges too late. From 33 to 63 took 45 minutes.
And also scrolling chrome faces lag also playing simple games like "Dune"
Is all of this normal?
Anyone else facing this problem?
I know the warranty is void, but garanty too?
Anyone know a fix?
+ I used smart switch and sent all of my note 4 apps and data to this phone.
and let me add that I played it in game mode so its expected not to lag.
It even lags much more when I start recording...

Just used 4g a little, but still see how fast is draining...
Do you have any other idea?
I think You should flash stock firmware with Odin and leave it on Your phone for a couple of days and see if Your battery gets better.
Also, You should expect around 4 to 6:30hr SOT on Note8. That's the SOT I get and it's usually with low/medium usage.
And on my Xiaomi phone I get 10-12hr SOT with pretty high usage.
Samsung phones don't have the best battery life but I guess it's enough for most people + You can use quick charge.
So, do these things:
Flash stock firmware with Odin.
Use Your phone for like 3-4 days(OS will optimise itself to Your usage).
Take screenshots of how much SOT You get every day and see if it improves during these 3 days.
Tell us about Your results and then we will be able to tell You if Your phone is normal or needs repair .
I know that xposed v88 was bad for n8 regards battery drian.
I have installed v89 xposed.
And it looks much better than older versions.
I know it sounds stupid, but have you checked for viruses?
battery drainage and data consumption are sometimes signs that you have unwanted software or apps installed on your phone.
Do the following steps and see if it works:
1. Boot your phone into Safe Mode.
2. Search for the virus (For this, go to Settings > Application Manager and tap the Downloaded apps section. In most cases, the virus is a third-party app, so look at what you’ve downloaded over there and see if there’s anything suspicious. Notice that your phone may have other types of malicious software but technically these are not viruses.)
3. Uninstall any suspicious app that you can't identify
4. Remove the Device Administrator Status of the virused app
The guide can be found here: https://www.unlockunit.com/blog/how-to-tell-if-your-phone-has-a-virus/
Let me know if you can identify anything suspicious.
