Figures. It can't be a huge update. Interesting to see what the changes are too. I can't believe knock code still isn't included in this. I am running a G3 port and don't really like knock code either. It sure beats entering a code, but I just prefer to knockon from anywhere and swipe to unlock. Knock Code was too difficult when my phone is in all sorts of weird positions and angles.
the link in OP's post is 2.2GB. It took a few minutes to install on my phone, so it's not a small update like the last one.

OP's link is the full factory image, not just an OTA update. I'm guessing 27A is just a bug fixer.

No, I was on my own build of Lolipop.
It shouldn't matter when you .kdz though, it will wipe everything, and start you fresh. I didn't have any problem rooting with stump root once on 27A.
You can let everyone one know if you kept root while upgrading to 27A from 26A.
Does 27a have different radios from 26a
I would like to know that as well.......

Looks promising. I like that it doesn't trip KNOX but will the "custom status" be a problem?
I'm 7 days into this phone, still have a week to return/exchange it if something is defective. So far it's running fine, dont foresee need to take it back.
But .............. If I did need to return it, is there an "unroot" and/or a way to remove the custom status ?
*** EDIT *** I haven't read all the way thru the root thread, so if my question has already been answered I apologize.
No Custom Status
I have now rooted twice, flashing the firmware posted in this forum in the middle. My phone has not shown custom on the bootscreen once. I also encrypt before I root, so maybe thats it. Who knew you could be encrypted with root?
Have you uninstall all the att bloatware without problems? Or used greenify to improve battery life?

Yes, all the typical rooting items work as they should. You can even flash zips with fireflash, and not trip Knox.
It's NOT in the bootscreen where you can see the custom status. It's in settings / about device / status. In the last line it crearly says "Custom" under Device status.

You'll generally have to manually flash updates once you've rooted, the OTA process will usually refuse to update a device running a modified system image. Not that big a problem, but sometimes it confuses people.

Or, install Samsung drivers, then Odin, and flash a stock image that way to return to stock, then OTA works fine. There is another thread around here with a stock image, I'd suggest anyone looking to return to stock in order to complete an OTA, to review that thread.

Would we be able to use fireflash and keep root if somebody were to get the OTA and customize it for our needs to keep root, etc? I know it's a hard question to answer, but maybe you guys have experience with other locked bootloader devices.

This is similar to how we did it on the AT&T S4 using safestrap to flash touchwiz based roms that were pre-rooted. Unfortunately, we wouldn't be able to flash non-touchwiz based roms without an unlocked bootloader.

No, ZV7 is not out yet. But it is in development as indicated by the new RDF.
http://device.sprintpcs.com/LG/LS991-SPRINT/LS991ZV7.rdf
Now I checked a few days ago and this wasn't here. It's also noteworthy that with the H815 getting 6.0 this might be what's coming our way. We saw something similar when ZV8 came out for the G3, it was a different version on the RDF. I'll try and poke the bear, see what I can find out.
In the meantime let the speculation begin!
I wouldn't hold my breath for M --YET-- it's way to soon. Besides inside the rdf file it says 5.1. Probably just additional security updates, and perhaps some additional enhancements like we had with ZV5 & ZV6. I do like your speculation though. ?

With M out already for the global version and it supposedly out in short order afterwards for US... Well, stranger thing have happened.
I just hope the exploits we use to DD the custom ROMs doesn't get patched with 5.1 update, could be a prep for M complete with security fixes. If so I may pass on the update and or M. Just my opinion only time will tell....
OK. G3 is now showing an update ALSO in the works. And what two devices are supposed to get M first for LG?
If that's not M it's a fix that affects them both... Stagefright's already patched so not sure what other big ones are out there.

I probably will too. If you guys haven't heard M will need you to flash a custom boot.img/kernel for root, which I imagine would almost definitely throw a secure boot error for us.

Has anyone been able to root the phone after the Verizon VS9803AA update? I have a G2 that was never rooted. The digitizer failed so I replaced it with an OEM LCD+Digitizer and suddenly the phone can only be used when there is bright light. I went ahead and replaced the light sensor, but it doesn't make a difference. I used an application to check the light sensor and it performs just as my G3. My thought is that the problem is software based.
If I manually reboot into recovery, I get the icon of the android with a red exclamation point. Plugging in the USB and holding the volume up does not bring me to download mode, it just displays the battery charge. Did Verizon successfully block the ability to root?
I'm having the same problem with not being able to root I've used IORoot which isn't compatible with lollipop, avicoh one click and . bat which get up to rebooting the phone but ends in an error reading "The system was unable to find the specified registry key or value."
so i read about Injecting root in to system image and then pushing image back to phone. But i haven't seen specifics for the LG G2 have you had any success in rooting the phone with the new VS9803AA Update
The phone as the VS9803AA update and I think it is the cause of the proximity sensor problem. I've read some other posts from people that had rooted and took the update. A different situation, but they have a similar problem. In one of those threads I had read about the bootloader version having changed. It is almost as if Verizon killed the ability to do a recovery on the phone. Nice huh?

Nice wouldnt be the adjective but if the bootloader is different is it possible to extract it and build a root with the new bootloader.
I am new to this however i'm a quick study and have rooted devices in the past ( manually ) I'm just not a developer so there has to be some one working on this right?
In the meantime is it possible to flash an older firmware I'm scared to try with out knowing for certain.
I too am trying to root the VS9803AA with IOroot and it says there is not yet an unlock for this version. I am very frustrated.
EDIT: I did discover how to root! I used the tool found here.
Now if I can figure out something to replace FreeGee, which does not work with AA...

I'm sure it was stock, because this is the first time I've ever tried to root and I did check the software version (VS9803AA) and it said, "Official." Now it says, "Modified."
My original goal in doing all of this was to open up the T-Mobile bands so I can have LTE again. Just left Verizon. But the youtube tutorial I was watching asks me to use FreeGee and it just is not compatible with 3AA as far as I can tell.
To root: webtrickz.com/how-to-root-lg-g2-running-lollipop-with-lg-one-click-root/
To flash TWRP: play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=b007.autorecvs980
I haven't tried AutoRec yet, but a review says it works for the 3AA.
Hope this helps, let me know!

Hay there,
Use kingroot the easiest way to root lg g2 without any trouble, try it and let me know thanks
I'm in the same boat - got this Verizon LG G2 from my sister fixed the LCD screen because the digitizer had dead spots. Can't root tried every method I could find and Verizon appears to have patched any working exploits. Also have the same oversensitive proximity sensor. Great job Verizon!!!
UPDATE:
I have root finally! Flash the prior software version 39a as I was not able to get anywhere with 39aa. Used Kingroot to obtain root and installed recovery!!! I installed Xposed and adjusted the values for the proximity and light sensors so that is no longer an issue also.

I will also say that after flashing this KDZ I can successfully root 3AA using this method: http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/development/guide-root-method-lg-devices-t3049772
Enjoy!

There's also an app that will download the correct ones for you: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.androidgapps

Yes, when I hard bricked I used SRKtool_2.1_droidth it took me back.. Form there has to use the Lg program to update back to 3AA.. Sorry that does not help you, other than just answering you YES..
can i used this root method its confirmed for my g2 vs980 3AA lolipop 5.0.2...???
Ok so I restored my G2 to 26A. I'm noticing that most of the games I played before are now not compatible?? Simple games like Clash of Clans and Madden Mobile are no longer available for this phone. Anyone have any suggestions why? If my wife's phone can have it and it's older and running kitkat, why isn't it available for this phone?

I was trying to find out how to update, root, and ROM it but there are so many posts that I'm not sure how to. Right now the phone is on 26A so any help would be greatly appreciated. I basically just want to throw CM on it and be done with it. I'm already rooted thanks to Stump Root.

I will try to help you out. May i know which G2 variant you are currently using?
Edit: My bad. You are using verizon g2.
Download this lollipop latest stock from here : http://storagecow.eu/index.php?dir=Xda/LG+G2/Stock/Verizon/Lollipop/
Then follow this thread : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2432476 , follow KDZ method to get it done.
Once you are on lollipop, Root again, install recovery using autorec ( if you happen to find an unresponsive button , lmk) and make a nandroid backup, then flash cm on it.
Lmk if you need further assistance.

Got it all working. So CM13 should flash over this right? Sorry for all the questions. I switched to an iPhone for a while so I'm a little nervous now.

Understandable, happens when u weren't in touch with sth specific for long cuz alot changes.
Install TWRP first . Then make a nandroid backup in case you ever need to go back the current state ( u dont wanna screw things up and do kdz all the way upto this) . Then download cm13, wipe data, cache, dalvik cache , do not wipe internal storage.
Thats it.

I get an error when flashing gapps and it says gapps install failed. I'm pretty sure I'm getting the right ones from here: http://opengapps.org/
I am selecting ARM, 5.0, and Full.

Hi,
Yes. Because cm13 is android marshmallow. You have to select arm, 6, full.
