Droid turbo or moto x 2014? - X 2014 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys, I'm interested in upgrading my phone. I love my moto g and I'm undecided BTW these two phones. Which one would you go with?
I know the turbo has better specs in every department than the X, but I love the style and customizable options of the X.
I would probably go with 32gb storage.

Moto X unless you really want the extra battery life. My dad got the Turbo. It's a very nice phone, but not quite as smooth, attractive, or comfortable.

Yeah, that's my biggest issue with the turbo... Its not as sleek.
I'm only concerned with the whole specs thing... The turbo clearly has better specs than the Moto x. But then again that's not everything. I'm concerned when it comes to "futureproofing"

The "better" specs are meaningless when you're pushing almost twice as many pixels.

X all the way. I was in same boat. So glad I chose to build a custom X on Moto Maker. That Turbo is just so damn ugly. And those buttons, dont even get me started. Good Luck!

Hahaha the capacitive buttons or the volume/ power buttons?
Any of you guys experiencing problems with lollipop?

I returned my turbo and bought the moto x. Besides battery life, I think the moto x has fewer issues. But I get a full day out of a charge, so ho hum. I bought the turbo day 1 and went through 4 replacements before giving up. Having Lollipop already is an added bonus. However volte is not yet enabled.

The Turbo is slick, but I think the Moto X is a better designed phone. Aside from the fact that it looks better, it is also built better, with better materials. The Turbo has better specs, but they don't translate to better performance, with that unnecessarily high resolution screen being the culprit. The only thing that the Turbo does better is battery life, but considering the X can still make it through a full day no problem, I don't think it's worth getting the Turbo for that point alone. The X is the best phone ever made, IMO, so that is what I recommend.

I tested the Turbo and Moto X side by side for a week. I really wanted to like the Turbo because of the better specs but it didn't work out that way. WiFi connectivity was much better on the X. 4G speeds tested using speed test.net were noticeably better on the X. The X just feels way better in your hand. Battery life on the X was sufficient so not a real factor for me. For overall user experience the Moto X is a great phone

Anyone leave the LG G3 to the moto X?

I've looked, but couldn't find anything. I'm just not happy with the lag of this device and since the nexus 6 is going to be way too big, I'm looking at the moto X.
I have to get the pure edition since I'm with T-Mobile, so I don't want to dish out the full price if it's not going to be a smoother experience.
Thanks for any help.
I dont know about the lag of the LG G3, but the Moto X has almost 0 lag, if any to be fair... 3 days and nothing
I do find it interesting, Considering my brother's G2 have almost 0 lag, maybe the 2K screen its a little too much ?
I think it is. The GPU is the same as most 1080p phones use and I think it can't keep up. I've even overclocked the GPU and still lag on games.
I ordered a motox 2 weeks ago to replace my Verizon g3 because there was no development. Now I still don't have the x and they unlocked the Verizon boot loader...
I have the T-Mobile G3 with the unlocked bootloader and there's not much out there. My guess, is even with bump, it's going to be a while until development takes off.

I left the Nexus 5 for the LG3......the lag or should I say lack of Nexus smoothness and buttery transitions forced me to leave LG G3 for the new X.......
What a more pleasent experience.
Prior to selling the G3 I did a side by side.....the difference in the screen and picture quality is noticable.......but overall.....the X has beem the best Android experience ever.
Overly glad I made the choice
Yeah the g3 is a lag machine for sure. I used it like once. Ew. Has the same gpu as g2 with 2k screen. Yeah no. G2 is miles smoother(I had one) got this x and this is smoother yet!

That's great to hear. I'm in your same boat, nexus 5 to G3 to now (possibly) the moto X. To hear the moto X has been your best Android experience is helping push me.

I came to Moto X 2014 from a Nexus 4 and my first experience with the new X was kind of disappointing due to its speed and some small lags (Nexus 4 was running perfectly smooth...). Then I changed the Android X execution from Dalvik to ART and it's now running like a supersonic jet! Try do the same in your G3 (if you didn't), maybe it works. Reducing the animations speed to .5x can also help your G3 experience.
If you go to the new X, let me say that it's Amoled display is, in my oppinion (my personal oppinion), a crap. LG and Sony displays are much better than Amoled, so be prepared!
Regards!
I had other phones in between but I now have the 2014 Moto X and had a G3. The G3 is nice, but IMO it was bulkier to hold and far more laggy than most of the other recent phones I have had. The Moto X is so much smoother and the Moto specific features, like ActiveDisplay, are far more useful. The resolution was great, but the screen wasn't really anything impressive past that. Everyone has their own opinion when it comes to screens though. Personally I have hated the LG screens all around (nexus 4, nexus 5, G3, G2). I find the colors too dull and the brightness for most of them very lackluster. The Moto X 2014 is also kinda "meh" in the brightness department, but the screen is still nice.

whoa, now I have an opposite reaction toward the Moto X. I come from the Nexus 4 as well, and the Nexus 4 was laggy a bit for me. The heating up by doing almost nothing was also a problem. The amoled display isn't that bad, but I know it ain't no Samsung screen.
I had the g3, but returned it within the 2 week period. I couldn't get over the cheap plasticky feel of the phone, it would creak when I gripped the phone, and even after root and debloat, it would occasionally stutter in the UI here and there.
replaced it with an HTC one m8 which I absolutely love - but despite the lack of stereo boomsound speakers and a microsd card slot, the moto x is better in every way. well, the camera on the m8 was actually pretty decent in low light, just as long as you didn't need to zoom or crop.
but so far, I am loving the moto x as it feels lighter, smoother and more responsive than the g3 by far, and even the m8. I love the amoled screen, the inky blacks are awesome especially at night. Feels just as premium as the m8, and way more premium the the plastic fantastic g3. especially with the leather back, it feels organic and unique.
highly recommended.
Well, I took the plunge and ordered a 32gb pure edition (I have T-Mobile). Moto says it should be here by the 22nd but I have read there are delays in the 32gb
Selling the G3 and N5 should more than offset the cost of the moto X.
I just need a fluid experience and regardless of the bells and whistles of the G3, they don't mean crap if the user experience is crap.
Thanks for all the input.

My 32gb I ordered last week shipped the next day. Depends on the configuration I think.
The benchmarks also prove how laggy and slow the G3 is compared to the X. In my opinion it doesn't even closely compare to the Moto X in design, ergonomics, performance, call quality or speaker output. Might have a slight edge on display and camera quality.

More than slight.

Some times I want to throw this thing against the wall. It was my stupid fault getting this phone (G3). My wife got one and I liked some of the features like the IR blaster and knock on/off, but I didn't take time with it to see the lagging. My N5 battery seems to be draining fast, so I got the green eyed monster and hastily went with the G3.
I just hope I won't be waiting a month for my moto X to arrive.
I sold my g3 after less than a week having it. The 801 can't drive the screen and it's laggy as hell. Love my Moto X so far and hoping for better battery with L which you know we will be one of the first to get.
I left the LG G3 Verizon and got a Custom Moto X 2014 on VZW. I went White, Gold, Brown Leather 32GB. I need root but other then that im happy. The leather could be thicker and better but. Ordered 10/7 and got 10/13.
Am i the only here who loved g3 and it's linda missing him? Got a moto X 2014, and i miss a lot of the functionalities and the câmera quality, wich i proved yesterday that is not that good on x.

Moto X XT1053

In a lil bit of a dilemma here...
Have a S4 on the 4.4.2 update (Safe Strapped to Hyperdrive) and have a older Tmobile Moto X XT1053 (I am on new LTE ATT plan) that I unlocked the bootloader a while back on. (was my GF's) She got a new work phone and the Moto X has been sitting.... I like my S4 but I think the Moto X has a lil better battery and possibly Signal strength on the radios.
S4 Pros:
Removable battery
SD slot
Screen Res
Cons:
Safestrap (limited roms)
Moto X Pros:
Unlocked Bootloader
Great Battery
Better signal
Moto X Cons:
Limited roms
Sealed battery
Thoughts? I need to sell one of these to make some $$$ back.

I give my vote to Moto X. I really like that phone. I even don't need custom roms, I am sitting now on Krypton and very happy.
That phone is small, powerfull and very nice looking.
P.S. Now I have Moto X. Didn't use S4. Don't like samsung :silly:

Fair enough! I expect these types of responses.
I assume most will be MOTO X based because this was posted in the MOTO X forum.
You'll get more money selling the S4.
I had an S3 and Note 2 before my Moto X, the difference in performance is night and day. Limited ROMs on the Moto X is a non-issue because it's so good stock, and even better with Xposed. I haven't even bothered trying any of the custom AOSP-based ROMs because there are always bugs that have to be fixed, I'd rather try the stock-based custom ROMs. Tried them all on my Note 2 but always ended up on Beans' TW-based ROM, which is why I haven't bothered trying any of the AOSP/CM-based ROMs.
How is the batt life on the moto X with the custom roms? sometime i Tether/GPS (plugged in usually thne) alot so I need something that will last a while.
Thank guys!
My sister switched from her s4 to a moto x (after I showed her mine) and she couldn't be happier. The s4 has better specs and therefore may be more future proof, however I personally prefer the smaller size and shape of the moto x. Not to mention with their optimized hardware and stock android the performance was way better on the moto. Its faster than the touchwiz bloated s4. Everyone in this forum would probably say moto x haha. However if you care about the higher res or bigger screen ( I don't) OR if you care about the significantly better camera, stick with the s4. And you honestly shouldn't need custom roms... Xposed and Gravity box has pretty much all of the features you may need or want.
I recently read an article where is said the MOTO X had one of the better radios performance also. even though they are all almost equal Qualcomm Chipsets.. hmm..
Motorola has always been one of the best in terms of radio performance.
From my experience, actually with the devices in my home where signal is lousy all around....
The X is quite good. Slightly better than the N5. On par with my M8 and a friends iPhone 6. And better than every Samsung that's entered my house. Lol

Moto x or droid turbo?

My contract with verizon is up soon and i am deciding between both these phones.. I love the style and near naked android feel of the moto x but i have real concerns for battery life throughout the day.The turbo is a powerhouse on the battery side and is strong overall ,the thickness and size makes it less pocket friendly and the capacitive buttons aren't optimal... Since moto x has been out awhile i was looking to get opinions from owners on their likes/dislikes and if they would still pick a moto x over a turbo.. thanks
I just checked out the Turbo the other day and wasn't really impressed with it. The screen is better, but not THAT much (I'm not a QHD fan), and the fact that it requires extra horsepower just to match the performance of flagship 1080p phones like the X, it doesn't seem any faster or smoother than the X does. The X has a much better design, better in hand feel, better build materials, is more pocketable, and while it doesn't have 2 day battery life like the Turbo (per Motorola's claims) it still gets pretty amazing battery life. I average 6 hours screen time daily, and never have to plug my phone in before bedtime. I really wanted to like the Turbo as I had my eyes set on the Moto Maxx that's supposed to be coming out soon, but my honestly unbiased opinion is that the X is the better all around device.

[Q] Why Even Consider a Moto X Instead of a Turbo?

So, I'm looking at new phones right now, and I can't figure out the value proposition for a Moto X when the Turbo is out there.
Per http://forum.xda-developers.com/droid-turbo/help/bands-turbo-support-t2914818 , the Turbo seems to work on non VZW networks (although I'm a VZW customer, I resent being tied to the carrier), and it has better specs in pretty much every department.
The Moto X is cheaper, but once you bump up the internal memory to 32 GB (+$50) and add the TURBO Charger (+$35), you're within $15 of the base model Turbo which includes both, plus the improved battery, processor and screen.
Am I missing something?
The Moto X is a better looking and feeling device. If it had a larger battery I would chose it over the Turbo.

This. Plus it's closer to stock Android. Verizon moved stuff around in the menus and renamed things for no reason in the turbo.
Yeah, I'm not on Verizon so for me the choice would be between the Maxx and the Moto X which as near as I can tell are running very nearly the same software set. In other words making the Maxx kinda like an X thats been hitting the gym so it becomes a why wouldn't I question considering the small price differential. With the Turbo versus X question however outside of the (too) small battery the X would be my preference to as much as possible avoid all things Verizon.

Moto X 2014 for LG G3

You guys know alot about phones...would it be a good deal to trade a moto x 2014 for a lg g3? thanks
NO. I left a G3 for the 2014 moto X and am much happier. Same battery life (not capacity) and a much more fluid experience. The LG G3 lagged a lot and got hot really fast. It also could not handle games as simple as sonic dash without dropping frames. STAY AWAY!
I second this. Came from the G3 to the moto x. The only two things I miss are the camera and the standyby battery life
My daughter has the G3. I have the vrz moto x coming from the note 3. Root or no root I love the moto x. G3 is nice but from a user experience the moto x rocks
Only if you're the one who will walk away with the Moto X...
Had G3 myself, terrible lag and software. Went to note 4, but can't take the lock bootloader and lack of root.

Tough choice.
Software: Moto
Hardware: G3 (expandable memory, removable battery, QHD screen, camera)
I had the G3 and didn't plague from the problems people are yapping about. I love the almost bezel-less display. Dim the brightness on the moto x and looks atrocious. Super turn off. Hands down the G3 has a better display and bigger display in a surprisingly small package compared to the other OEM's in its size.
What sold me on the moto x was the personalized experience. I wish apple would adopt the same concept with the custom paint job and finish.
The moto is aesthetically pleasing.
Its a toss up really. You wouldn't be unhappy thats for sure.
I had a G3 (well 3 different G3's F400, D850 and the F460) from launch last year until 3 weeks ago when I sold my last one. I've been using Mt Nexus 6 for a while and bought my wife the Moto X. I loved the G3 because of its excellent camera and compact size yet large screen. The G3 is a great phone, I didn't have any heating issues on mine but I didn't like the LG ui. I realized that I prefer stock android over other ui's. The back buttons are a nice touch and so is the removable battery/SD slot.
Since using the Moto X I was pleasantly surprised sigh how well it preformed. It's much faster stock than any of my G3's were. Updates are hit and miss on the LG. My korean ones would get updates fast but my ATT one was left in the dark the whole time I had it. The Moto voice and display are a big plus in the X's favor. Overall it's just preference but if I had to choose between them I would buy the Moto
