[Q] Nexus 6 and Google Play Music - Nexus 6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Has anyone figured out way to keep purchased songs from google on the device? I have hooked the nexus up to the PC and i cant see my purchased songs, at all. Im using music v5.6.160p.1480807. Has anyone else ran into this issue? I downloaded the music to the phone but i cant move it to my pc.. or other media devices.

Google Play Music stores downloaded music in cache which can't be accessed without root and is pretty well buried. Plus the mp3 files are named with random characters.
You would actually want to download Google Music Manager to your PC - just search for it and Google will give it to you in the first result. It's a PC syncing application that runs in the background to sync your music. Open it by the Windows system try and go to settings, there's an option to download purchased music.
Or you can go to music.google.com and download the songs from there.

Thanks I'll give that a try. This seems a little different from the old method of just DL to the phone and browse to the directory and get the songs out of the cahce to add them to the ext SD card.

Download play music exporter , just google and install the apk. It needs root and you can save cached songs to your phone without need of PC

When i open the music app, it doesn't see any music and same with gallery, cant see anything only pics i've taken with phone. If i use my file explorer it see's everything, opens it and plays. I tried third party gallery like quickpic and it works fine. Poweramp works fine as well for music. The stock software isnt showing anything. I factory reset phone as well and same thing. I've been using android for the longest and first time encountered this. (EVO, EVO 3D GS1, GS2, GS3, Skyrocket, Nexus 4)
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I've noticed the same issue here. I can connect to a network share, copy music into the Music folder (or media/music) but it wont appear in the Music app, or DoubleTwist. The same is true when copied over USB. Not sure how to get it to detect the music. If I navigate to the folder, I can launch individual songs, but the players wont read the tags, or add the song to it's database...
Force close media storage and use
Media scanner on the play store right after fc-ing media storage.

That didn't seem to do anything for me. I did get music to appear once though by using DoubleTwist AirSync yesterday. I sync'd some crappy windows sample music successfully via that method last night. It showed up in DoubleTwist and the HTC Music app. So I manually deleted those albums and attempted to sync an album I recently got. That time it showed up in DoubleTwist but NOT the HTC Music app. I cannot figure out what the hell is going on or what to do about it. I've tried 3 different media scanner's from the play store and none have done anything for me. I've tried copying my music to various folders hoping they'll get caught in a scan but still no success. Is everybody else able to use the Music app with no problems?
I thought I was the only one. I tried to install Swype also and that didn't work either

still no fix for this problem? will anyone care to reply n help me out?just got the htc one n this glitch is RUINING the brand new phone for me what did the OP do?
So I just found a way to get everything back .
First download a root file explorer (one able to gain root)
then navigate to your root it should be just a "/" then go to /data and then /data/media.
Bam that's where everything is! now just move all the folders to the main sdcard directory, /sdcard or delete the files that are in /data/media if you don't need them anymore.
Good Luck and hit "Thanks" if it helped :laugh:

[Q] Downloading music

I have had all three versions of the EVO and have always been able to download free mixtapes with my phone and use a file explorer to transfer the files to my music folder and they were instantly in my player. With the HTC One I can download them and move them and even play them from e'sfile explorer but my music player never sees them. If I connect phone HTC one to my computer and put the same songs in my music folder they show up instantly... What the hell is going on? No SD card problem?
Appreciate the help in advance
You need to rescan the phone for media. There are apps for that. I think one is even called rescan media

If you are downloading legal music via mixtapes etc why not just go to mixtapetorrent.com and use the utorrent app to download the music. You can use utorrent to direct the music to the spot you want it on your phone. Thus no need for the file explorer etc.
Are you serious that this amazing phone requires a 3rd party app to recognize mp3's in the music folder? I can do that but it really doesn't click with how advanced this thing is. My old HTC phones didn't need that.
I have no issues with the Music player seeing music in the music folder..

I'm having the same problem the OP listed. No idea why. Same files my Evo had no problems with.

No, it doesn't need another app to recognize the apps. It's just not triggering the operating system to rescan for media files. Android scans the entire storage on boot or between mounting the storage for new media files (pictures, audio, video, etc) and then adds them to the libraries they belong to. Certain actions can bypass this scanning for new media. This app I suggested manually tells the system to scan for these files. It's nearly instantaneous when you do it. I've had to use it before on other devices, you literally open the app and you're done.
For some crazy reason I can not get any of four albums to show up. Rebooted phone, ran rescan media. Even pulled one song out of it's sub-folder and put it straight into the music folder.

Example: 08 Orianthi - Another You.mp3
10-orianthi-highly_strung.mp3
01 Lights Of Manos.mp3
From 3 albums that worked on my OG Evo this morning.
I had the same problem and after getting the music player to play the song it said the format wasn't supported. And these were songs I played on my galaxy nexus fine. And astro file explorer plays them fine too...

[Q][CLOSED]HTC Sync Manager & Music

Hi all
Just got new HTC One and lovin' it!
It was a tough decision moving from WP7 on a Titan but I'm generally very pleased.
The one thing about WP7 was it's synchronisation of everything without effort.
So my issue is that it would appear HTC Sync Manager is not up to the same spec as Zune when it comes to syncing music.
Don't get me wrong I can manage with WMP12 probably but I still can't buy tunes in Google Play Store on my phone and have them automatically sync to my PC music library.
HTC Sync Manager doesn't even accurately reproduce my PC music library. I have a playlist in WMP12 with 219 tunes in it and HTC SM sees only 134 songs in the same playlist. I have another playlist with 12 tunes in it and Sync Manager sees none of them!
Am I missing something or is it just how it goes?
I've done some searching of the forum but don't find any answers.
I've found out that HTCSM needs phone to be in USB debugging mode and Window 7Home 64bit needs it out of debugging mode otherwise it says it's disconnected. All seems a bit hit and miss to me.
If anyone has any tips I would love to hear them.
Thanks for listening.
Hi, seems you have the same pain as me.. i come from iPhone though..
While reading your post I could not help but think that Winamp might be the solution. It's able to index your library, from WMP as well as iTunes.. and has mobile sync capability (music only) .. I don't know if it works both ways like you describe ( download music from phone)..
Some apps let you make backups of music ( sandisc memory zone ) which might get you some of the way..
I'm new to android so I'm guessing here.. will listen in if someone else had all the answers

WinAmp
Yeah, I had a look at WinAmp but didn't see a way to sync both ways. I'll have another look.
I'm probably one of the few who doesn't care about any form of sync cos I'm a little OCD in that I need to know where each and every song goes so I manually transfer them over xD
But yes I do know that Android doesn't have a fully featured sync/backup solution.

The only way to get purchased music from Google Play onto your computer is to download them on your computer via either the Music Manager application (which I believe will only download your entire library... a bit bandwidth-heavy) or to load up play.google.com/music on your PC and manually download the files there. This is a Google Play thing, not an HTC thing. When you download music from Google Play on your phone, it doesn't download as a simple mp3 file. It'll be something like 12812814581271.dat. You could probably rename the file to an mp3 and it'd be fine, but good luck figuring out which song is which.
Google Music Manager
Thanks craigOr, I'm trying Music Manager out right now. It might do the job, we'll see!
Google Play Music Manager
Music Manager works for me. Synchronises whether music purchased on home or mobile web, Also has option to locally cache tracks played on mobile device.

[fixed] Play music not syncing

Update: I figured it out, I hadn't turned on google play music sync on my older device. I checked sync (on the older device) and everything worked
I broke my motox a few weeks back, so I decided to purchase another one. I've gone ahead and setup everything and when I went into my google play music app I expected all my songs to be in the playlists but to my surprise they aren't there. The playlist names, that I had created on my old device, show up but not the songs.
I called google support regarding this matter and they were unable to help. They told me to uninstall the music app and re-install it, which I followed those steps but it still didn't help.
I even logged in via the Web and I couldn't see the songs, just the playlist names.
I tried searching on the Web and didn't find anything.
Anybody else run into this issue?

Syncing music between S6 and Turbo?

I went from my Turbo to an S6 and I'm back on the Turbo now but I have a mix of songs on each. If I wanted to make sure both have all songs available, is there any way to do that? I can't download anything on my computer so that takes out that option
Thanks!
Should be able to thru windows media player? If you're running a windows based OS plug it in and open windows media player. Play around with that

While it would be easier to use the Google Play Music Manager utility, you could manually upload your music to Google Play Music, and then download it from your phones/tablets. Keeping new files synced up with the online library would be a bit of a pain, though.
