[Q] What are promoter and journalist firmwares

I'm needing to downgrade my firmware on my d5803 to a pre october version in order to do giefroot. I bought the phone unlocked international version so I'm not sure which firmware to put. The firmware thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/z3-compact/general/list-stock-firmwares-d5803-d5833-t2906706
Shows some firmwares are "Generic" and "Promoter". What does this mean? I don't want to flash a firmware with no radio or wrong lte bands or whatever.

Non T-Mobile SM-920T ?

I've just purchased a new S6 with the same model number as the T-Mobile version but it's unlocked and unbranded. Does anyone else have this phone and when do you think it may get marshmallow?

You will get the update anyday now. It would be awsome if you could get a system dump for that firmware youre running. we could reallydo some development witg that and be able to get marshmallow along with you.
I have the same phone, also purchased unlocked though Best Buy. Will we be getting a separate software update from T-Mobile? Once released, how can I get that system dump? I can see how it would be usefull for development. Haven't rooted because I don't want to trip knox and loose warranty. Impatiently waiting on the update. Didn't know if I had to wait for the T-Mobile update to roll out first.
To my knowledge our phone is just a different CSC under the G920T variant... For G920F, which is the international version, mostly European, different CSCs mean different regions and/or carriers. Likewise, for G920T, there are two CSCs: TMO (which is T-Mobile) and XAR (which is our bloatware-free version). That said, if the TMO firmware comes out first, we'll be able to flash it manually with Odin but we'll not receive OTA. The downside is that we'll have to bear with the bloatware until we flash back to the XAR Marshmallow after it's released. As for Knox, as long as we're flashing official stock firmwares from Samsung Knox won't be tripped.

Flashing 'stock' firmware in place of carrier version

I have a Note 5, N920I from an Australian carrier and I'm curious if I can download from somewhere a 'stock' firmware for the phone, as if I had purchased it outright with no carrier. Does such a thing exist? What would be the process? Would I receive OTA updates faster (this is my hope)?
I did try to find an answer online, but I haven't found anything conclusive and I figured this would be the best place to get a straight answer.
Thanks!
You can download stock firmware from here and try to flash it using odin. there are a number of Australian as well as Singapore stock firmwares available.

What's the difference between the engineer firmware and the official

Anyone know
Read OP http://forum.xda-developers.com/sprint-note-7/how-to/root-super-leaky-bros-sprint-galaxy-t3447202
That doesn't say what the difference is
If you're looking for official list i doubt you find one for leaked FW, but it would be nice, if people who have loaded this, posted comments about features that don't work or are missing.
Official firmware has all the bloat that comes with your carrier phone and may be locked down. Eng firmware is a basic firmware, unlocked, no bloat. This is usually the 1st firmware that is made to get the phone up and running, then they work off of this firmware to make the final production firmware.

What is the difference between ASAT and ASAB firmware? I need help picking a firmware

I've attempted to searched up the different kinds of firmware for this model phone and as far as I'm aware for the F series (international) versions of the S10 it is either for UK, Asia, or Europe
I have a Galaxy S10 G973F/DS and when I got it the stock firmware on it was G973FXXU1ASAT. Although reading further I've seen other firmwares ending in ASBA and ASC8.
I guess this means the Dual Sim model can only come from the asia model according to this chart
https://www.techwalls.com/samsung-galaxy-s10-model-number-sm-g973-differences/
I've been attempting to add TWRP onto my phone using this guide and I've been having difficulty with it and I dont know if the firmware I downloaded is not compatible with it. So if anyone else has any suggestions on firmware I'd like to know.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/ga...ecovery-twrp-3-3-0-galaxy-s10-exynos-t3924856
ASAT, ASBA, ASC8 are all different releases of the Firmware.... They are released in order Alpha and Numerically, So ASAT is the Oldest you named and ASC8 is the Newest... The most important is that the Model and bootloader portion of the firmware name is correct. G973FXXU1.... Then you have to find THAT EXACT FIRMWARE for your Carrier. Which like I said is NOT the ASC8 part(thats just the firmware release). It will be identified with a CSC code like "XAA"
So, at the end, you want the G973FXXU1ASC8 (or newer now) Firmware for whatever carrier you have...
Today, I would flash G973FXXU3ASIG for whatever COUNTRY/Carrier you need...
