I installed OCLF and LauncherPro and now my Call Log in the dialer is showing SMS messages instead of just Calls. As I get a ton of text messages, my call log is getting really long and messy.
Anyone know how I can resolve this? I clicked on Settings while in Call Log but it won't allow me to restrict it to calls only. The only options offered is:
View by:
All logs
missed calls
dialled calls
received calls
sent messages
received messages
bump..
this is real annoying as the call log becomes super long.
bump..
would really love a solution to this.May be a log cleaner that deletes all the text logs ?
You mean in Contacts History?
Press Menu, select 'View By'. Deselect 'Message' and press 'Done'.
And messages do not appear in the history.

As stated in the original post, the call log only has the options to view by one of the following selections (not multiple selections): All logs, Missed calls, Received calls, Dialed calls, Received messages, and Sent messages.
If we could simply "uncheck" the 2 message options, this thread would not exist. We can only select one selection of the above choices. Further example: selecting missed calls would leave out received calls, dialed calls, received messages, and sent messages.
We would like something that only shows missed, received, and dialed calls (no sms).
So far, only the froyo builds are this way for the vibrant ROMs (except teamwhiskey's - i've tried macnut and axura which both suffer from this problem).
Is there a fix for this yet? I can't believe Google released Froyo with this dumb problem! There is no way to exclude SMS from the call log! My call log goes on for miles!
Can one of you XDA geniuses come up with a fix for us?
Ohh I hate this too. Its so annoying.
This is driving me crazy! Does anyone know if there is a replacement Call Log app that we can install in its place?
This is very annoying and for that fact I went back to ka5, does anyone have a way to replace the dialer app? I tried replacing the phone app but it gave me issues with connecting to the network.

For those who are rooted, I have bionix v rom installed and flashed the AOSP MMS app provided by Team Whiskey and this log annoyance is gone.

I may not answer your question about changing the 'call log' settings but this is what i do.
1. Go to 'contacts'
2. 'history' tab
3. Press the menu button
4. Then go to 'view by'
From there, there is a check list where you can select what kind of logs you want to see.
Couple of more steps to see the call history, but nonetheless it gives.you what you want.

Well the History app seems to work. But it brings up another question: why in the world are there TWO different call log apps in the native dialer? The "Logs" app doesn't resolve the situation, but to access the other call log app, you have to open the dialer, click on Contacts, then the History tab.
Maybe Darky can offer a custom fix in 9.3?

Ditto! This is driving me nuts! I am rooted and ready to add or delete whatever it takes to fix this. Would somehow downgrading from 2.2 dialer to the 2.1 api work?
try go contacts from the market, it provides a dialer aswell and looks much better than stock with all stock features and only calls in the log.

I posted a workaround for this in another thread which has somehow disappeared.
There are TWO call logs in the native dialer application. The first you get by clicking on Phone/Logs. This one is useless.
The second you get by clicking Phone/Contacts/History. Then click on the Settings button and create your filters. This one has all the features you need.
Anyone have a recommendation for sending sms messages over wifi?

well crap, i think i replied in the wrong thread.. doohhh.. hahaha
anywho, go to your contacts, click on their pic you should see a slew of icons, one of which should be a google voice bubble (a bubble with a phone in it) click on it, and then pick which number you'd like to send a text to .. It may ask you which program you'd like to use, but i can't remember..
I can't speak for everyone else, but I had an update for GV in the market and after the update I went thru login process and SMS worked

Bummer. I don't see that icon on any of my contacts. Poop.
I'll try installing it again tonight. I'm going to flash Vegan B3... I think. Running TnT 2.2 now. Maybe it's an issue with that ROM.
Re-install for success
I was having no success with GV and then I went on the app market and install it from there and now I can send SMS messages from my Google Voice account. Running TnT-Lite 2.2.1
I posted this problem as well on the voice thread on general theme.
I installed .3 google voice. I got to the final set up screen where it wants to verify my phone number. When I hit next, it says "We have a problem, your phone number could not be verified. please try again"
When it asked for my user name and password, I put in the email address and pass word that is linked to google account that I set up google voice with (it is not a gmail account, but a yahoo email address) I can access it fine from google.com/voice by putting in those same credentials, but when i go through setup on the tablet and it comes to the part about verifying the phone number, I get the we have a problem screen
What can I do different?
Thanks

Just update Google voice from the market. The new one just works now without having to replace the old with 0.3 and all that.

I originally tried the one from market and it FC each time I tried to run it. I removed it with the remove applications removal tool in settings and installed this otherone. It loads, opens and allows me to put in my email address and password associated with my only google voice account, but it stops on the phone number verification process.
Thanks for your help
EDIT: Just tried again to install from market. This time when it gets to verify phone number, instead of the error popping up, it gives me a FC... the same as when I tried it before.
Try signing up for google voice on a pc or via the web first. Use any phone number that you have access to immediately to verify the number then simply install google voice from the market. It should just work. Skip the part about cell phone voicemail if asked.
Still no luck on my end. I un-installed the update (in settings), then wiped and un-installed via Titanium Backup, then rebooted. After boot I downloaded and installed from the market. Went through the setup process. Rebooted again. Still no option to SMS when I click on a contact picture. Ideas?

I've been using textPlus. Works pretty good!
Can you get to the google voice inbox? If so, press menu and select compose. start typing the name and then pick the persons name and cell and send txt that way. If you can't get the inbox then you have some other problem.
Do you have the google voice configured with a mobile number? Maybe that is it.

I'm in the inbox. In menu, all I see is Refresh, Labels, Balance, Search, Settings, and Help.
Also, it is build number: 0.4.2.13, if that matters.
And additionally, I just flashed Vegan b3, if that matters.
Hey guys, I need some instruction on how to file an official bug report upstream for the android team and what information captures I should include and how to retrieve those? I am including a description of the bug/problem here on the off chance that anyone knows of an existing fix or workaround.
PS. Stock unrooted locked encrypted google play store variant nexus 6 64GB midnight blue with the latest OTA updates and all apps up to date, no "user modifications" made....yet
I have set up hangouts & hangouts dialer as my default MMS/SMS client, and I have ticked use hangouts dialer for incoming calls in hangouts. My google voice number is the same as my sprint mobile number thanks to sprint google voice integration, I have disabled all forwarding phones in google voice options. When I get a call to my sprint number incoming hangouts dialer shows up alone and works perfect and unanswered calls go to google voice voicemail.
When I open chrome and click on a phone link I get the choose default popup that has the options to select "phone dialer or hangouts dialer" I select hangouts dialer and tap on "always", then I close chrome reopen it to a new phone link and tap the phone link and it again opens the choose default dialog even though I just set hangouts dialer as my permanent default a second ago, it continues to do this EACH time no matter how many times I set hangouts dialer as my default dialer. I have tried disabling google dialer in settings(defaults option for google dialer are greyed out), turning off mobile data & everything but WiFi (don't see how that should change anything, and it doesn't change anything).
So to sum it up I can not set hangouts dialer as my default dialer on a google play bought nexus 6 running stock everything latest updates all apps up to date. The default dialer selection " always" just does not seem to get set when always is selected. Me setting hangouts dialer to always is not remembered.
To make matters worse when I select hangouts dialer and tap "always" it opens hangouts one time and it DOES put the number into the dialer but it does NOT hit call or initiate the call, like the default dialer does with phone links.
Further, after attempting to set hangouts dialer as default "always" 20 times, when I do "OK google call xxxxxxxxxx" voice command it shows the blue google dialer logo there's nothing to tap on to change what dialer OK google opens and it opens it with the default google phone dialer, is there some trick to make a call using hangouts with OK google? Is the trigger word not "call"? I've tried ", hang out with" which seems unrecognized and a few others. This really effects me as have two android wear devices and I use hangouts as my primary SMS/MMS/phone dialer and when I make a call through a wear device it doesn't use hangouts and it doesn't show in my hang outs call history.
I have installed the google voice app and selected the options "view and play voice mail in the phone call dialog". (Most likely unrelated).
If anyone knows a fix or workaround for this I would be seriously thankful.
Any help on how to file a bug report with adequate information upstream and how to motivate the android team to fix this is also appreciated!
Thanks.
Gary M.

Did you ever find a go-around for this? Any solution at all? FYI, this problem is NOT Nexus 6 specific. I have the EXACT same issues on the Moto X 2014. Must be an overall Hangouts Dialer Bug.
Anyone else have ideas for a go-around until Google fixes it?
Anyone here on DOK2 also a Google voice user?
I am having a strange issue when trying to "Call with google voice".
The call start during the prompt where you choose whether to "call with google voice" or "call without google voice" instead of waiting till you choose one of the options.
Because of this it always calls without google voice.
To all DOK2 Google voice users, your feedback is valuable.
Maybe you should update to Google Hangouts. It works perfectly for both texts and calls. I haven't touched Google Voice since I started using Hangouts.

Oh yeah dude, 100%. When you log in with your Google account, it will automatically use the Google Voice number associated with that account. And you can do text and group messaging, mms, video hangouts, and voip calls all through the one app.

Yeah Google voice # plus hangouts is a great combo.
I can confirm, it dials straight out with your carrier number no matter what option you choose. Hopefully there will be a fix.

I understand that. I have a voip pbx server setup. I would like to use the minutes which are allotted to me each month. Using Hangouts doesn't help with that.
I appreciate the reply, I'm just confirming that there is an issue.

R u calling over seas? Using hangouts with a google voice number, has unlimited calling between USA, Canada, and Mexico.
Unless you are running a call center I don't see the need for the pbx server setup anymore.
Using hangouts limits me to just my cell phone. All the extensions in my home are setup with voip.

T-Mobile - Note 4/5/Edge - Update to 5.1.1 - Error on outgoing calls with Google Voice by setarcoS Dec 1
ADD A REPLY
Original Post: I'm on a Samsung Note 4 that was just upgraded to 5.1.1, and now when I attempt to make outgoing calls, I get "call not sent" and the call automatically gets made with my regular carrier number. I am still able to send/receive text messages, and check on voicemail's.
I tried rebooting, clearing the app cache/data, removing the sim, changing networks and nothing - the same error "call not sent" keeps appearing.
I've been using google voice for many years now since invites went out and never had this issue when changing phones.
Need help figuring out what is going on.
Device: Samsung Note 4
OS: Android 5.1.1
Network: T-mobile network
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
Devices affected: Note 4, Edge, Galaxy S5, Note 5
Status: Waiting for a fix.
Work around #1: Connect through Google Voice (via Sheelendra Singh)
Dial your GV number
Hit the asterisk (*) key when the GV greeting comes on (skip this if you set your phone to go directly to voicemail access)
Enter your PIN, then pound (#)
Press 2 to place a call
Enter the phone number followed by pound (#)
Work Around #2: Dial through Hangouts
On your Android device, open the Hangouts Dialer app .
Type the person's name or phone number, and select them from the search results. Or to dial a number, touch the dial pad icon Dial pad icon at the bottom of the screen. Then dial the phone number you'd like to call, and touch the phone icon .
Work Around #3: Dial through web browser on phone (via Nick the greek 123)
1. Go to Web browser on your phone
2. Go to https://voice.google.com and sign in
3. Use the dial key pad provided.
4. When you dial the number google voice will call you first from your google number, answer it to connect to the number you dialed.
Work Around #4: Force calls through (via Steven McDonnough)
1. GoogleVoice has to be set to "Always Ask"
2. You have to set "Power Button" to end calls (Settings -> Personalization -> Accessibility -> Answering and ending calls -> End calls by Pressing the Power key)
3. Once you place the call, immediately hit the POWER BUTTON THEN quickly hit "Use GV". That will end the direct dial from your phone AND enable the GoogleVoice dialer.
Things you can do to help:
Contact T-Mobile and help make them aware of what is going on.
- Ask to be transferred to "tech support department."
- Explain the issue and tell them there is already an existing ticket for this known issue.
For all who call support and they ask you to uninstall, reinstall, factory reset, clear cache, etc. Don't bother. It won't help. These are irrational, standard support scripts used when they don't nearly understand the cause nor the solution.
Log into https://voice.google.com and use the "Send Feedback" link at the bottom left of the page" to help make them aware of what is going on.
Contact Samsung support and help make them aware of what is going on.
If you contact T-Mobile, Samsung, or Google Voice, be sure to mention this thread:
For reference, the URL they need is: https://productforums.google.com/forum/#!msg/voice/7v4o62rCRfI/8E2xx0hEDAAJ
And this is the thread in particular: 7v4o62rCRfI/8E2xx0hEDAAJ

PaulisHere contacted T-Mobile and filed a report regarding the issue. They recommended everyone with the same issue contact them and mention this reference number to add them to the ticket: 745440721951644352 (my t-mobile rep couldn't find the ticket as they are normally 10 digits long)
I contacted T-Mobile and they said they are working with Samsung and Google (Android OS I presume) and are hoping for a patch/fix within 7-10 business days.
2015/12/09
PaulisHere opened a new ticket # 14060725
I also have this problem. I don't like having to use the hangouts dialer, but, it's what I have to do for now.
I called Tmo biz class support and as expected they were useless and are pointing fingers at Samsung and GV.
I called Samsung support and as expected they were useless and are pointing fingers at GV.
Contacting Google's support is harder than shouting into a black hole.
Anyone else have any idea about this?
I notice that TEKXodus has the a new dialer that is video calling capable and Google voice works properly.
All of a sudden I have 1 number in my phone that I do not get notifications from when they text me. My phone for not ring, vibrate, light up, nothing. This only happens with this one number, all other contacts work fine. I'm using the default messaging app and on the latest Google update. Has anyone has this issue. Is there something that maybe I clicked on that could have caused this.

You haven't accidentally blocked that number by accident have you?
To check this do the following, go to the messaging app > click on the 3 dot menu > check to see if the number/contact is listed there.
If it is click on the contact/number and then click on unblock.
Hope this is of some help.
It doesn't sound like this is your issue, but carriers will have a separate block-list that works account-wide. For example, numbers blocked in the Google Fi app will be blocked for all phones covered by that account. I seem to remember my last carrier having something similar on their website.
Although, can you clarify something... does the SMS appear in your messaging app and there's no notification... or does nothing at all appear?

The message appears in the messaging app, I just don't get any notification. As far as I can see, it hasn't been blocked anywhere. It is my son's phone number so I know I wouldn't have done it purposely. I've thought about dirty flashing the FW again to see if that fixes it out just wait till the new one comes out next month

Ok thank you. I'll check that, but suddenly it is working again. I am leading toward it being a glitch in the FW. I'm gonna wait till the new one comes out and upgrade it and see if it happens again
