Restarting after mount
I followed the process as specified. But after mounting apps(I mounted Asphalt 8, It took a while to turn the thumbnail GREEN, before it turned GREEN, I touched the thumbnail, just after touching, it turned GREEN.), the system restarted. And after the restart, Folder Mount again auto mounted the game, and just after mount finishes, the phone reboots, it happened again and again. I tried unmounting it but no effect. So i uninstalled the app, and the phone is fine. I rooted using Towel app and installed SuperUser along with it. My phone is Xperia SP C5303, Android 4.3(12.1.A.1.205),SD Card->SanDisk Class 10 Ultra 32GB, ex-FAT file system. Please suggest me a solution to move apps to SD card. Thanks in advance.

[Q] installation error unknown reason-18

HELP!!! every time i try to download and install an app from the market it says "installation error
unknown reason-18"
what could be causing this, and how do i fix it?
I get the same thing. Cyanogenmod 6 RC3. Apps installing to external.
I've tried:
1) rebooting
2) deleting the market data
3) wiping cache
4) wiping dalvik cache
5) nandroid/wipe/restore
6) BART/wipe/restore
7) wipe/reflash
I've heard that installing to internal, and then moving them to external will work. I've also heard that installing one app by adb will fix it to make market work.
And finally I've heard that the following works.
Code:
rm /mnt/secure/asec/smdl2tmp1.asec
I'll be trying a few of these out, starting with the last.
*****::::::EDIT::::::*****
The above code should read:
Code:
su
rm /mnt/secure/asec/smdl2tmp1.asec
Note that in normal text, that's "rm /mnt/secure/asec/smdl2tmp1.asec". For some reason, the CODE tag makes a lower case l look like the number 1.
l
Code:
l
1
Code:
1
I should also mention that I also tried to fix permissions.
The code shown above didn't work. Terminal said that the file didn't exist.
I set it to install apps to "automatic" and that has been working since my first reply.
On the Terminal, enter first "su" and only after that run the command.
hello, i have a Desire NON-rooted and have changed too automatic install on external trough ADB, but i have this problem now suddenly i got unknown reason 18 and nothing will install on external !!! is there any solution i have maybe 20 apps on the external. thanks

I had the exact same error message when trying to install the Google Maps update today and it turned out that it was because Google Maps was on the SD Card. I had moved maps to SD yesterday, then when I tried to update it, I got the error you got. I had to
1) switch the install location back to internal
2) move maps back to internal
3) clear market cache
After those 3 steps, I was able to install the update without issue. I guess some apps can not be updated if the are either on the card or maybe if they have been moved to the card.
I have the same error. None of the tips here have worked for me. It seems to be only Angry Birds that wont install...
**EDIT** Just found this -
it's smdl2tmp1.asec (with the letter L before the 2) not smd12tmp1.asec (with the number 1)

Solved deleting .adroid_secure folder. It's hidden in SD root.
Tried all the above hints, still not working
Hello all
Market is still not installing anything on my N1.
There is no such file in /mnt/secure/asec, and yes, got a rooted phone.
The only file there that starts with s is smpxg.jewelxmas_lite-1.asec.
Any other hints ?
I experienced this on Froyo (2.2), Froyo 2.2.1, CyanogenMod 6.0 and now also on nightly CM 6.1.
Cheers.
UPDATE: Never mind, was able to unmount
tmpfs on /mnt/sdcard/.android_secure type tmpfs (ro,relatime,size=0k,mode=000)
Then rm'd it safely. After a reboot I am back in the game.
is this problem solvable for people who dont know what to do with the code or what a terminal is?
removing smdl2tmp1.asec did it for me on my evo. Thanks guys.

Ok, so I'm having problems with installing Angry Birds (installation error - 18) and I have read the posts, but I honestly have no idea what to do. Someone said that this code works, but where am I suppose to type it in or alter it?
I'm with thenapster3, not got a clue! Running MUIU Build 5 and can't find anything mentioned or delete the secure folder. Soz Any help would be gratefully received.

found this on other forum... thought i would share with you
(1) unmount your SD CARD
(2) download and install the app
(3) mount back your SD CARD
worked for me...
try this
I got an error saying 'unknown error 18', I Google'd the error and found a possible fix, which was un-mounting the SD card. I tried, and was able to install the apps ! I then have to mount the SD card and move the apps across! It works, but its a real pain to have to keep un-mounting and mounting the sd card!
giv it a shot

Trying to upgrade X8, gingerbread Xrecovery etc

hi,
I'm trying to install gingerbread or the best version on my firmware 2.1 Xperia X8 but I am stuck :
I cant get Xrecovery installed on my X8 as I cannot locate the the folder SDCARD. When I connect my Xperia X8 to my computer a load of folders appear but they are not SDCARD or root etc How do I copy files over to this directory if I cannot locate the correct folders ?
I got a free version of Root folder on my X8 and can see the right folders on my phone there but have been unable to get to them on the PC and thus copy the necessary files over. Any ideas ? Its quite frustrating !
I think I have 2 steps left, copy Xrecovery over and then copy the latest Android over and I should have a better phone.
You should just use FlashTool to root your phone..
I prefer FlashTool because with it you can root, unlock bootloader and flash kernels all-in-one..

well i got the phone rooted. It says so when I run it again and the Super User is installed. So too is busybox. I don't know what Flashtool can do that isnt already done.
However I cannot get to SDCARD folder from my PC ! Some examples on the web just show files being dragged and dropped but I don't have the folders listed.
CtrlAltDelIrl is not really reading your post.
First, you don't have to locate the folder SDCARD. What you see in your computer is the SD card. Later when browsing from your phone and you see the folder SDCARD, what you're actually seeing is a link from within the internal memory of your phone to your card.
Second, just use x8toolbox to install X Recovery: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1117100. While you're at it, install also CWM Recovery since all of the recent ROMs need it to be properly installed.

Great, Yes I am stuck at finding the correct folder on my phone. If I can't get access to it via PC I cannot copy files over.
I don't know what X Recovery is or much about x8toolbox . I downloaded a lot of files and they don't do a whole lot. I was looking for a straightforward solution
I
There is no sdcard folder.....the first page with lots of folders that appear when u open u r memomry card on pc is sdcard or root....
Xrecovery is a custom recovery used to flash roms......

Thanks very much for the response. Yes it helps. I just see a list of Xperia X8 folders on my PC which don't do what I need.
I can't figure out what I need to do in order to get to the SDCARD or ROOT folder ? The only thing that is similar is hidden system folders in Windows but its so easy just to view hidden folders. I am thinking I have to do something similar to get at my Xperia X8 SDCARD and ROOT folders.
Xrecovery sounds like its the right application to get installed for me. If I got it installed I could put on a new Android operating system. However I first need to get at the correct folders in order to copy XRecovery over.
Any one have any ideas ?
Copy the three xrecovery files.....to u r memory card.....access to memory card using root explorer and copy the xrecovery files and paste it in
phone memory/system/bin

dude it worked !! Thanks so much, I was looking at that till midnight last night
I got XRecovery up on my Xperia X8 and doing the next steps now.
Thanks again !
i got ginger dx copied over to the sdcard and launched it. It looks like it froze mid way through the boot up with nothing happening from a graphical point of view (it started with lots of stars moving around).
I tried doing a restore but it says nothing was found. What should I do it with ?
trying to mount the sdcard from the phone results in "Unable ot open ums lunfile"
Is there some way I can restore the phone and try coping over the GingerDX v28b again without losing all data
i had to delete all my data but got GingerDX to work. It feels a lot better than the 2.1 Android on the phone
if you think gingerbread is nice, try ics it's......wow

that's what i've provided
for unlocking bootloader i would recommend flashtool, cause you can't do pretty much wrong and it's easy
(but don't forget to be below 11w29 )
I would like to try ICS but I don't know where I can get it. Some steps outlining where to put etc would be a help. I like gingerbread, its easier to type and the phone seems to work quicker. Although there are a few things :
Using the phone now I can't get into my Wallpapers saved on my SDCARD. It has to exit from pictures and puts up an message that an error occurred and try resetting the SDCARD. How can I do this and does it wipe anything ?
My contacts from my phone chip don't seem to be appearing either, maybe it wiped them or maybe there is some error. Any ideas ?
When using the camera I get the following error :
xperia x8 gingerbread the application camera (process com.android.camera) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again

bout 'resetting the sdcard' i think that the phone wants you to format the sdcard, but i've got no idea why... never had that problem...
your contacts were stored in your data-partition, so your full-wipe deleted them, your only chance is that you sync'ed them with the google-servers
and about your camera, i've got no idea never had any problems with it
which version of gingerdx did you flash? (i've had gingerdx a pretty long time too )
---------- Post added at 02:04 PM ---------- Previous post was at 01:46 PM ----------
sorry, just saw that you said v28b
give v25 a try, i like it much more than v28b
i also think that it has a slightly better performance
I am only using Ginger bx a day or so.
I do have contacts left but I can do anything about what it deleted. I use google+ but I don't think it backed anything up.
The thing is that the camera doesn't work either does the picture viewer. To get the background picture changed I had to use Astro. GalleryDx would stay open
as i said, give v25 a try, for me it worked better than v28b
gallerydx is a bit buggy (scrolling aso), you could try a gallery from market or from another rom (or earlier release)
is that an older version ? have you an url where i can download it and follow some steps
I downloaded other apps and they view my pictures ok (my pictures were saved but my numbers werent?) but the GalleryDx app that came with Ginger bx just doesn't work
yes, it's an older version (just better )
and your pics are still there 'cause they were stored on your scdard
http://code.google.com/p/gingerdx/downloads/list thats the link to all gingerdx versions, just download v25
BUT you don't need to do a full-wipe, just install the zip via cwm and your done :good:
if you want to you can wipe cache but its not needed

[Q] Need help rooting

I've got a Samsung Galaxy Ace GT-S5830 with:
Android version 2.3.6
Baseband version S5830XWKT8
Kernel version 2.6.35.7-1190851 [email protected]#1 Mon Sep 3 16:00:05 KST 2012
Build number GINGERBREAD.BGKT4.
I want to root it so I can unlock it and delete some useless pre-installed apps.
I've tried to root it following quite a few tutorials here on XDA (including various zip updates) but all I got was a useless superuser app without root permissions.
I think that's because the version I have is no longer compatible with those methods, but I don't know.
So I want to ask: Is there any method, no matter how hard it is, able to definitely root a Samsung Galaxy Ace GT-S5830 with android 2.3.6?
And in the case it isn't possible, do you know if I take it to one of those "repairs" shops they could at least unlock it? or do they use the same methods?
Thanks!
To start, you need to say what firmware you are running, baseband etc

Good luck and yes, report then what's happend with your phone
Well, I Installed CWM, tried Delete_thinkdroid.zip (didn't do anything. Think free office is still installed and working), upd_1.zip, acegingerroot.zip, gingerbred-2.3.6-root.zip, CF-Root-S5830-v3.7-b84.zip, b84-fixed.zip and still no root.
Now, my phone boots with a blue triangle in the top left corner but that's all.
upd_1.zip gave the following error:
Code:
E:Error in /sdcard/upd_1.zip
(Status 7)
Installation aborted.
gingerbred-2.3.6-root.zip did the same but changing the name:
Code:
E:Error in /sdcard/gingerbred-2.
3.6-root.zip
(Status 7)
Installation aborted.
acegingerroot.zip and CF-Root-S5830-v3.7-b84.zip seemed to install correctly but with no effect.
b84-fixed.zip aborted installation almost immediately.
Do I need to get a new version of my system? Like that firmware and roms things? I'm really lost

no. that you need is to liberate memory space to push root files to /system
Blue triangle is good don't worry (cfroot kernel installed )
Cfroot b84 fix isn't flashable through CWM, normal that your device aborted the installation
Your error message is because your sdcard is corrupted, so copy all your data from your sdcard to your pc using an USB adapter.
Then format your sdcard using windows in Fat32 format (you can do it using your phone and selecting format your sdcard in settings )
Copy the files again and flash it when you have free space
I'm going to provide you a script to delete a serius app, wait a moment

Well it's here!
When you finish with your sdcard (format in Fat32) try the attached file and report then
1. Flash it "install form sdcard"
2. Then flash root.zip
It'll delete Thinkfree, it's enough.
I have prepared a script (EXTREME) that remove Maps, Gmail, Thinkfree, SamsungApps and Youtube All those apps can be downloaded from Google Paly Store

I had no boot animation problems, but anyway, done that.
A little problem i just noticed is that after reinstalling Gmail and Youtube (after deleting them with the script) those two apps seem to not be working and send a couple of error messages after booting saying "process com.google.android.youtube" and "process com.google.android.gm" have stopped unexpectedly and giving the option to force close or report... So you know if I can fix that?
EDIT: Google Maps and Think free office work fine...

You can do it following the next steps:
You need to set the permissions correctly and delete Gmail.odex and YouTube.odex files if exist in /system/app before paste this new apps
1. Mount /system (R/W) in order to paste the apps
2. Just put the apps in /system/app and set the permissions like this (holding over each file, you'll change permissions)
x-x--
x----
x----
3. Reboot!
It should work
I'm having the same problem (root and get superuser app without root permissions. )but I don't have much of an idea on what to do. I have just swiched over from an iPhone so android is all new.
So my phone info is
Samsung Galaxy Ace GT-S5830 with:
Android version 2.3.6
Baseband version S5830XWKT3
Kernel version [email protected]#1
Build number GINGERBREAD.XWKT7
Can someone please run me through what I need to do to root it (I know how to get the superuser but I need to know if that prepared script (EXTREME) that removes Maps, Gmail, Thinkfree, SamsungApps and Youtube will do the same for me. Also how do you use the script (ie do you "install form sdcard") as you would the root.zip? I just want to remove carrier bloatware than I will unroot again. Or would superoneclick work for me? (nevermind superoneclick as I cant get it to install on computerputer keeps "encountered a problem and needs to close".
Thanks

Thanks!

Why not if you have SuperUser installed? Search Titanium Backup and install it from Play Store. Remove any unnecessary system app using it. Root has nothing to do with removing the system app automatically or through Application Manager. So you will need the third party app like Titanium Backup.
P/S: Becareful with uninstalling/removing system app. Else you will render your phone unusable at all. (To unbrick it you will need more trick, search the thread in XDA to revive your phone)

Titanium requires root and my superuser wont root I would rather not root at all the only thing I want to get rid of are optus stuff that was preinstalled but doesnt even work on my phone. all the research that I have read says that to remove bloat ware you need to root. (please if I am wrong just point me in the right direction)

Look for in he first page of this thread!
I attached 2 scripts to remove some apps to get free space. Then you could flash root.zip successfully
Here you have ROOT + CWM 5.0.2.6. Fixed files too

Follow the steps:
1. Here you could find the scripts to remove the apps and get free space (it's compulsory for the last roms to push superuser files)
forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2420830
2. You have enough free space now (your apps have been deleted, check it)
Flash ROOT + CWM 5.0.2.6. FIXED files to get root and a custom recovery

You can flash CWM first if you want

ADB + App2SD not enough to enable SD as installation storage without root?

I know that SD Apps without root has been asked a lot of time so I won't ask about this.
But still I tried to use ADB Bridge to command pm set-install-location 2 to see how it would turn. At first I thought that it worked, but instead I found that it is not working. Plus I got the error "Not enough storage" so I had to switch back to 0 (auto storage location).
Isn't there any way to make use of ADB on our phones to get a working app like APP2SD enable the "Move App" button? Or just a way to do it via the computer?
I'm not really into rooting etc right now, I remember that jailbreak and tweaks were taking a LOT of my time when I was on iOS and I don't want to go back to the custom route with my Z1. I just don't need custom ROMs etc, the phone works like a charm with stock 4.3. Eventually Z2 Apps and Kitkat could make me jump all the way to root but this is off-topic.
So anyway : Is there any way to make use of ADB to enable installation or location change of apps on our SD cards?

Just use folder mount m8, does everything for you, simply pick the folder you want to mount on SD, mount it in the location that the app gives (should be a mirror of the apps path but on the ext SD card) then allow it to mount and you're done.
I've got about 12 huge games installed and i'm still on 9GB.
It works exactly as it should.

Appreciate that but in all fairness root is an app away and quite removable, without root i'm guessing no.
All of the scripts that i've seen over the years that enable this feature all require root or something from the OEM's side to enable it, I think the galaxy S4 had the ability to move apps to SD to combat the low memory that users were left with, but without Sony directly implementing this I think you'll have a hard time doing this.
If it were me i'd root, as i said it's quite removable.
Good luck all the same
Ok guys thank you for the the replies ! Well I wonder if I must root since there can be bootloader locking issues. I'll look for this

You wont have root without unlocked bootloader atm as there are problems with mounting system partition rw without kernel that fixes it, and cjanging kernel requires unlocked bootloader. But you can always downgrade to 4.2.2, root then without unlocking bootloader and either keep using 4.2.2 or backup TA, then update to 4.3 and when you will want to remove root just flash back stock kernel and then restore TA

If you have got root, then search on internet for remountrebootfix, download it, connect z to the pc, run the exploit and complete all steps. Whne it will be done, download from google play Foldermount, i recommend to donate to get full version, the go to Analyzer aplications, choose a game and click on add pair. After reboot, your obb files will be on sdcard. Please google this apk, Foldermount, because in this moment i havent got too many time and you should check another guide how to use foldermount.
Hit Thanx if i helped.

hi again
that FOLDERMOUNT app is really bad after i rebooted them my device turned on its restart again and again i tried to uninstall that app fast like thunder and now my phone work fine but still low memory is there any idea? im rooted running lastest 4.3
that's why i provided to use remount reboot fix firts. This is tool which can make your phone prepared for this apk.
I am using this apk on Existenz V6.6.0, just connect your phone to pc with adb drivers installed and usb debugging enabled, run the script, choose your root method and let it do its job. After this you can install Foldermount and it will really work. I promise
PS: you need to extract this tool to :C//
