This is actually not happening to my current unit but happened to the two previous one before I returned them, but I still want to see if this a common occurrence and if there's a quick and easy fix for it.
In my two previous nexus6es I noticed the plastic back cover is becoming unglued at the edges around the middle of the phone. Big enough to fit my finger nails. It seemed like a crappy gluing job was done. Did anyone else have this problem and what did you do about it?

Make sure to check for battery expansion pushing the back cover off, happened to my Father's N6, so we got a replacement unit, and TMO told us to take the phone to a dump and safely dispose of it. We decided to wait and see the outcome (in a fireproof box), the battery has continued to expand, completely removing the back cover.
*Yes, I am aware of the fire/explosion hazard, it is in an air tight bin in a safe area. Almost a science experiment now. XD

Got any pics? Would love to see how bad it is.
Mine is also peeling, have contacted Motorola and no problem in getting it replaced, hopefully the next one doesn't have this issue!

Where did you get the Wood Back Cover? Looks good man
How can we make sure that it's just the Glue that's coming off due to the heat and not the battery expanding? Mine is very similar to @EVIL JIMMY but only a bit lesser.
You would think that if there were enough people with these issues they would just recall it to notify us there is a serious problem (see dell laptop battery fires).

It's a Dbrand skin
In regards to the battery expansion, is this a common fault with the N6? Should we be worried?
My phone looked like just @EVIL JIMMY posted. Sent it to service last week and now waiting it back or replacement. I'm pretty sure that I'm not getting replacement and the just replace battery and back cover.
My back cover is slightly raised right where the power and volume buttons are. Hopefully it doesn't get any worse. It's barely noticeable.
it is most likely to get worse.. some say it is the battery getting buffed.. even mine has slightly started coming off. I can hear the glue when I press down hard.
So far mine is fine, I received it on the 13th of January. It was made on December 24th.
Runaround
I noticed the back coming off about 2 weeks ago. but didn't think much of it at first. Then I read reports that Motorola acknowledged the problem. So since I got the phone through T-Mobile I contacted them. And boy did I get the runaround. Was told that less then 2% of the phones were affected and that there was no official acknowledgment to be found. The rep told me to take it to a T-Mobile store. They gladly would accept my $175 replacement fee and get me a new phone. I don't think so.
Sent a Tweet to Motorola for help. They answered with a link to their customer support page. Had a nice chat with some dude in India and got a call from them. Not quite sure what language he was speaking but I understood enough to answer his questions and he transferred me to a repair rep in Texas. Boy do I like it to talk to someone that speaks my language.
But it was all good from there. She asked me to email her a picture of the phone and called me back soon as she got it. She took my info and a replacement phone is on it's way. At no cost to me! They do want the old phone back though.
As always! Great service from Motorola. I just intended to get some help from them to deal with T-Mobile and ended up getting a new phone.
And for the first time disappointment in T-Mobile. I've been with them for 9 years and was always treated well.
Time for a Tweet to John Legere.
So long as this doesn't turn out to be a battery issue, it could be a good thing I suppose. Maybe we'll start to see fancy replacement back covers like the Moto X if these ones are easy enough to remove.
I'm rocking the DBrand wood skin too. It's lovely and very easy to fit but a real wood back would be great.

After reading all the reports I have looked really close and I can barely see the back cover under the volume button moving upon applying pressure on it. I rally have to focus to see it but it's there. I have had mine since 01/04/2015 and I don't know if that's how I got it or if it recently started doing that.
I love my Nexus 6 and will keep an eye on it if it gets worse I would request a replacement.
I got mine from T-Mobile I hope they don't give me the run-around and replace it if needed.
The real question is, what has moto done with regard to the replacement phone? Have they actually figured the issue out and fixed the issue in the later batches of phones (specially the replacement ones) Or are they just shipping us a new phone which might have the same issue in a month's time from now? Can I find any source / proof for this?

That same thing came to my mind, when I got message that my replacement is on the way to me. Serial number look almost same as the one I ordered on december. So looks like they just send new unit. Offcourse I maybe wrong.

I'm quite skeptical about the root of the issue being fixed. Given that N6 is still in limited stock, how could they have fixed it and are readily shipping away new phones specially given the fact that the issue itself came to light in less that 2 weeks time. :|

4th replacement here, two days old, no problems aside from I'm seeing this. The back looks fairly flush, but after close inspection there is some play when applying pressure to the back edge just by the power button/volume rocker. Does this mean its coming loose/battery expanding, or is this just a design flaw in the Nexus 6 and it won't necessarily come off/get worse?
Should I just wait and see or should I return it? I'm getting sick of this phones now due to all its problems.

I'm sorry, I have to vent. I guess I'm trying to set a record because I just broke my third N7 after having it out of the box for 10 minutes. My first N7 was dropped on concrete and the screen shattered, so it was understandable. I didn't have coverage on it so I had to pay for a new one. The only place that had them in stock was Staples, so I got the next one there and paid for accident coverage. The second was in my back pocket when I bent over and my butt put a little leverage on the screen and broke the digitizer (not the glass). I think it might have been defective because I remember feeling the screen pop slightly when I tapped it long before it finally broke.
Unfortunately, Staples coverage plan sucks. I sent it in and didn't hear from them so I called them after three weeks. Instead of shipping me a new one, they only gave me a $199 gift card to pay for the 16GB N7 I broke. And it could only be used in the store, not online, and now all the local Staples are always out of N7s, so I had to wait a week for them to be in stock. When they got them, they only got the 32GB, so I went ahead and paid $50 extra for it. After tax and a new coverage plan, I paid $133 out of pocket on top of the $199, so I was a little less than thrilled about the whole ordeal, but still glad to get another N7.
I got it home, sat down to root it and install a rom and I had it resting on my leg when I sneezed and it slid down my leg and came to rest on my shoe. I didn't even drop it, there certainly was no impact, it just slid down my leg and stopped on my shoe. No big deal, right? Nope, I picked it up and the screen looked sort of like TV static. After pushing the power button the screen went off and won't come back on. It's borked.
I love the N7 but this is ridiculous.
What you need to do is get an American Express card. They have this crazy benefit of unconditionally guaranteeing anything you buy using the card for a year.
I once bought a $250 camera using the card. Shortly after I took a fall when hiking on a steep slope. The camera was in a case clipped to my belt. My hip crushed that baby! Parts and pieces!
I called AMEX and related the story. I had heard the guarantee covers all losses - lost, stolen, or crushed! Sure enough, the person looked up the transaction, asked I send them an email describing my accident, and then credited the full price back to the card!
I buy all toys on the card now.

I'm 90% sure that the static screen is caused by the battery cable coming partially loose. Open up the back cover, carefully pull out the battery cable and then reconnect it. Let me know if that worked for you. I did a lot of searching when that happened to mine.

Not to be rude, but I think you need to get some common sense and look after your devices.
I mean, doing it once is understandable, but didn't you learn from your mistakes?
They're not made of ice and are far from "fragile" so to break three is good going !!
Good luck with your new tab !

Those records, LOL, I would NOT be bragging about here or elsewhere - like others above posting said, how about a little bit more due diligence - protect your "investment" and get a non-slip, protective cover or case - and then, urrrrh, enclosed it with high-desensity foam for exta padding. It is a small trade-off for reducing ordinary wear & tear as well.
Given the high cost of repair & reported incidents, I reluctantly got accidental/breakage insurance for it, but it's still no fun to send it away for repair/exchange and wait for delivery after the claim is processed, etc. and live without the device for # of days (or weeks)
How the heck did you get it to fit in a back pocket of your pants? Those must be some mighty big pockets!
In fact, WHY would you put it in your back pocket?
In any case, this isn't a phone. Heck, I wouldn't even put my RAZR MAXX in my back pocket because that could DEFINITELY cause something to break.
It's obvious this guy is a one percenter. Definitely first world problems. Back to my supper of Udon noodles.

I would do that to carry it in a restaurant or something, it's not like I kept it there all the time. It fits perfectly. I have a 32 inch waist and wear levi's so my pockets are pretty standard.

Well the first time my 7 year old dropped it. I had only been letting her use it on the couch or carpet or other soft places but she grabbed it without me knowing and dropped it in the garage. As I said, I'm pretty sure the second one had a defect as the screen would pop when I pushed it, and the third time, I don't know what happened, the impact it suffered must have been miniscule.

My little brother is the same way! Somehow he managed to do some weird spinning move and launch his 1st gen iPad off the top of a basket full of laundry and smash it into the banister at the bottom of the stairs. Dented the hell out of the case, but fortunately the screen didn't break. Fubaya, do you have a really bad case of the butterfingers, or are you just a klutz like my brother? I was like that once, didn't drooped my phones by left them some ware or lost them and never found them again. the only solution i can think of was to get a leash and tie it to my hand when ever i am using one. soon due to the embarrassed i leaned how to take care of my devices and never had problem since.
try some thing like that e.g do not buy new device unless u truly take care of ur old ones or get them repaired till the point they wont even get repaired and that might help u take good care or ur devices.
do your bank account a favor and just buy this instead from now on:

Woooow I work at staples too. Did they ask you to turn it in? Usually they just send you a cash coupon now so you can come in same day to buy one. In fact at the end of the warranty just claim that it took a swim or that it fell down the stairs and collect to buy the next best thing and keep the old one. Anyway the **** man?! I can understand having it in your back pocket, I do it all the time but my pockets are big. The whole thing with a stand case fits in there. But I only put it there when I'm at work so I can demo things for ppl.

pretty sure that this case only comes with the international htc ones, so if you are in the United States you will not get it, which is ridiculous
I think it's because we don't the replacement screen in first six months over here, so they give us a free case instead...
Guys, the case delivered with the international version sucks big time. I am using it since release 04.04.14
- It is not close to perfect fit. The handset could come out anytime easily.
- The part for micro-usb and phone jack doesn't close all the way after 3-4 days. I decided to cut that piece to avoid hassle.
- The ruber looks already worn just from putting in my jeans pocket.

Yeah it's not great, definitely not worth paying money for but I'm still glad they included it. I'm still using mine until I can figure out which third party case I want.
Just sold mine on Ebay. Offered to someone on here but the postage to US was around $15 - obviously you can buy a case for that.
On the flip side, had mine since release day and used as a daily driver and not a mark on it.

I'm sorry to disappoint but my case starts wearing off on the edges too. I only wear jeans and not the tightest ones at that. I never dropped my Phone and i do not have a car. Hence i didn't even leave the phone and case in bright sunlight to heat up or something.
Made a picture if mine few days ago. Here it is.
The case was included in the box for me, as a temporary case, it's fine, but I'd strongly suggest buying a different case if you're going to order one.
I, myself, have ordered a Dot View case, but I'd suggest getting a Spigen or something if you're ordering one.
Here's mine, been in use for a since 27/4, I usually take care of my devices so I'm not sure how it was scratched this much, but that shows how scratch prone it is:

I've had mine as long as you have and... what the heck do you do with your device? Either your jeans are too tight and caused all that scuffing or you're doing something else with it because mine looks pretty much the same as it did the day I got it -- and the flap still closes properly.
I've got it on my M8, and its scratched, port covers doesn't close properly, and doesn't slide in and out of pockets very well. Good for a case that comes with the phone but wouldn't recommend buying it if you didn't get it with your phone.

Be careful, if the batteries aren't properly made, they can go off (if it has a bad overcharge protection circuit). In India many people used to buy fake/duplicate Nokia batteries and had/have similar results, giving Nokia a bad name in some cases. Not often but definitely occurs. Just saying because it doesn't even mention the brand.
Better off with zerolemon battery and dual layer case.

Do not take the risk
wonder if it fits the Verizon model.
btw the zerolemon one has issues with obstructing the camera and the buttons not working very well. (at least from the few reviews I can find)
hmmm if someone has the zerolemon one can you let me know if the portion around the camera is able to be dremel'd away a bit?
Might have to get one and see if I can 3d scan-edit-3d print a new one at a friends house

That would be so epic! Keep us posted please! Lol
I contacted zerolemon about the case.
Looking at pictures from reviews and amazon/their own site, I have a feeling they changed the case around the camera.
the reviews I have seen show it more of a contoured shape but the one I see on amazon its square and a little further away from the camera.
If they changed it I may order one and see, if it blocks the camera I will see about dremelling around the contour and see if I can "fix" it lol.
I've got a Kinect set up and ill 3d scan the parts before hand and look at modifying for a 3d printer.
Ok got a response from zerolemon.
Hello,
Thanks for your question. The camera part of the case has been widened to fix the obstruction issue, but the power button doesn't change.
So the camera is fixed. No dremel needed.
The button issue might not be a deal breaker, I usually use knock on to wake it. Volume could be the clincher.
I'm gonna think about getting it since its half the cost of the mugen one and I like how the zerolemon one doesn't have the plug dangling.
According to the video review the verizon g2 does fit.
I know this is a kind of old thread but seriously, the pics on that eBay listing look horribly photoshopped. I would be very cautious buying this case. Look closely at the buttons, and why is the entire case clearly visible, except the top. The top part of the case is extremely blurry. I don't know, something looks fishy about it.
Hi Guys Here is the same one but cheaper.

In a couple of weeks I'm going to give it a try the price makes me doubt of the product.
I have two ZeroLemon G2 battery cases (the seller sent an extra one and never responded when I emailed them), the second one is unopened. I'd be willing to sell for cheap if anyone is interested. It takes some work to get the case on correctly (specifically the volume and power buttons), but is otherwise about what you'd expect for such a product.

Have you been able to use the power button with the case on? I never got that to work

Id be willing to buy the extra one. What design is the back around the camera? Round or square?

The one I'm using is square, so the unopened one is presumably square as well. I'll have photos up shortly. I'd be asking $20+shipping (I'm near Cleveland, OH). I can't imagine having a need for 7000 mah worth of G2 batteries in my house. The only time I ever use the case is when I'm driving Uber, I like to have Waze, Dash (connected to a Bluetooth OBD adapter), and audio going w/o having cords in the way, and that's the only way to do it.
I will pm you with details. Btw i live in michigan. Howdy neighbor. Haha

Sounds good
Anyway, for the rest of you, here are some photos so you can get an idea of what it looks like:

This is everything that comes in the package, minus a couple of items. One is the glued-on screen protector. I didn't like it so I took it off. The other thing is there is a backing plate with styrofoam on the other side. This goes in where the battery would be if you are choosing to use the phone and case by itself, without the battery. I don't know where I placed mine, and I can't really see ever needing it anyway.
G2 case next to my old Nexus 4.
The camera and power buttons from the outside. I apologize for the quality of the shot, that bathroom mirror is dirty. I guess I could have just used the Nexus 4 to take a better picture, or my QX-10 attachment, but I was lazy.
Why would you need to use this? In my opinion it makes phone too big which isn't as comfortable at all!
Durability. I work where it can be dropped on a concrete floor easily. Or if in my pocket crushed. Plus the extra battery is nice.
Thank you Sean35. Just got the case today. The Verizon g2 does fit with a little extra efort. Agree the screen protector is coming off lol. Only issue i have is the "incompatible charger" bug. I am rooted running a custom kit kat rom so gotta figure that out.

Kinda regret not getting a case now. Luckily everything still works, apart from an annoying buzzing when speaking on the phone. But my perfectionist OCD is kinda kicking in now!
Thinking about putting up with it until a new phone takes my fancy.
Anyone else had shatter experience? What did you do?
Sorry
Mods delete this, didn't realise there was a thread already.
i got one of those as well, two weeks ago. everything still works perfectly though. i still wont use a case or screen peotection.

Spiderman App xD
I bought an N5 off CL for $100 with a cracked screen and I've been looking to replace it. Appears to be pretty easy, but the new screen is going to run you about $100. I recommend getting a screen with the bezel instead of just the screen.

I second that. Cases are always ugly anyway. I'm careful enough with my phone that I don't really worry about it. Going on 8mo+ and haven't dropped it once yet...
At least the way I see it is like this: you get a case in order to keep the phone looking good and protected, but you never get to see what the phone looks like when there is a case around it, so what's the point of the case? haha

It's not always about looks. Some people need their phone to always be working and keeping it protected ensures that.

ive never used a case on any of my devices(since g1 days, and every nexus since). i did buy a case for my n4. i put it on and immediately took it off. i hate how they feel in the hand, it really bugs me. naked is still the way to go for me. and ive dropped my phones many times, but this was the first time in all those years that my screen actually broke. what sucks is that it was all my fault. i had it in my lap(sitting on a bench at night), then stood up forgetting it was there. face down on the concrete it went. by now though, i forget that it did break. its in such a place that doesnt bug me, and the cracks arent visable with the screen on.
I have 2 mains cracks on the top and bottom. Plus a spider crack on the right side. Luckily its a tempered glass screen protector. I'll agree with Simms that I hate the feel of a case, for the most part, but I refuse to go anywhere without one. You can't predict life. Back when I got a shiny new GNex, I was involved in a motor vehicle accident which resulted in the phone getting chucked from the front of the car, out the passenger window and right into a cement divider. I spent like 10 minutes in the car looking for it before I decided to go find a house to call 911 when I saw it. It was wearing an Otterbox commuter case and it survived for the most part, minus the screen.
IDK, I bought my phone from T-Mobile on a payment plan. Technically speaking, I don't even fully own my N5 yet. So I'm not going to let anything happen to it. When I'm in my home I keep it in my Ringke Fusion case. It's a little lighter so it's okay for just in house for a drop if I'm careless. When I go out though, I put it in my Neo Hybrid case. I have the Nillkin 9H anti explosion tempered glass screen protector on at all times. I actually owned the protectors and cases before my N5 came in. My phone hasn't been naked since I got it, really. Got a spare glass screen protector as well. Once this one gets too cracked to offer any real protection it'll get replaced, but for now the cracks are minimal. When I retire my Nexus 5 it will be in as good condition as when I got it (if I have anything to say about it).
Cracked screens annoy the piss out of me. I use a thick ass battery case(zerolemon) not a big fan of this brick but its quite nice having ability to charge phone especially since N5 has a mediocre battery

The ol' "forgot I set it down on my lap and stood up" situation. I see this happening to people on almost a daily basis stepping out of their cars. There's also the "random stranger bumping the phone out of your hand" which can be quite unexpected.
Every time I drop my phone even with a case or not, I have a mini heart attack. I know my case will protect it and I know that the Nexus 5 has a durable screen and needs a pretty hard fall to break but it's that 000.1 percent chance that I'll pick it up after a nasty fall one day and have a small crack.
Seeing a stupid comment on Google Play about an app you love and marking it as "spam". You've done it too.
My screen broke about 2 weeks ago... very upsetting. I thought about getting a screen and doing the job myself, but I figured it would be best, for me, to have LG do it.
Unfortunately, they are rather slow. They got it one week ago today, and it's not expected to be delivered to my house until Tuesday. So a total of 14 days since I mailed it back to them.
Just keep that in mind if you plan to have them fix it... The only phone I had from before is an old flip phone.. which works, but very, very limiting compared to a N5. lol
OP, I feel for ya. If that happened to me; I would have a bad day too!
However, there is a thread dedicated to people having bad days here: Post your broken Nexus 5 thread
Feel free to drown in your sorrow with the other unfortunate members.

So I bought a Nokia 7 Plus on the 27th of April to replace my Nexus 6P on which the battery had turned awful. Got it as I needed a reliable phone for an upcoming trip to Japan, around 2 weeks later. The day before I left I installed a new more protective case I had ordered online. When I took the phone out of the included case I noticed something that looked like a defect on the copper plating almost between the power and volume buttons as well as a bit higher up on the same side. Didn't think more about it and just thought it was a optical trick my eyes played on me and installed the new case.
While in Japan, I took the phone out of it's case to show the phone to a Finnish friend, and when did put it back I noticed it again, this time as I was outside in the bright sunlight I inspected it more clearly and to me it looked like the screen and edge of the chassi was not fully joined.
When I got back home I did talk to Nokias support in the app they provide on the phone and got it comfirmed that indeed, it shouldn't look like that, and they said I should take it to the store where I bought it to get it replaced or repaired (I don't know why they would repair a phone that was just over a month old at this point, always been in a case with tempered glas screen protector, been kept in front pocket or jacket pocket and never been dropped)
So I decided to talk to the store where I bought it from, decided to talk with their online support chat before taking it in to the store. They said, it didn't seem right and told me to bring it into the store for a replacement or repair. So sure enought I bring the phone to the store, they look at it and say well they don't have a tech. at hand to look at it, so it has to be sent in for evaluation. A swap wasn't even on the table. The store happned to have a bigger store not far away where I knew they had a service desk, so I decided to bring it there. Same thing. It has to be sent in for evaluation, and it would take at least 10 days as it's vacation season. He did however ask if the phone worked fine otherwise, which it does. It's great and I absolutaly love it. As I was unsure what I wanted to do, as it was not the swap I was expecting after talking to the online support, he offered to note this defect down on my receipt in their computer database.
The phone works fine and there is nothing else wrong with it. Am I over reacting on this issue? But my concern is that lint will perhaps get into the device and cause issues down the line.
Anyone else noticed something like it on your devices? Including a picture that I think shows clearly what I'm talking about. Thanks!

Seems like a manufacturing defect because mine is fine.
