I just switched from the xperia to the Turbo the other day. I noticed that in the power menu there is no restart or reboot. Is this correct? I have to power down completely and then power back on?

Nothing from the Maxx is helpful to us right now. Sony coded in the reboot function as part of their own customization. If/when we get root, there are apps on the market that also let you reboot.
Will we get root? Maybe...quite a few flagship devices are becoming more and more unrootable.
Maxx already has it.

I'm not convinced that they will ever officially release it.
Keep in mind you can get a Nexus on an installment plan from Motorola and pop in your sim. It will work fine on Verizon, sans advanced calling.

If you enable developer options, you can switch without the need for root. Don't know if anyone has caught that yet.

Powering the phone off and then continuing to hold the power button until it turns back on is not a reboot.
If you shut down your computer and then press the power to turn it back on, did you reboot it? Of course not. Your powered it off then turned it back on.
If you want to see what a real reboot looks like, hook your phone to your computer and use ADB to reboot it.

Actually it reboots on its own. As soon as it forced powered off I let off of the power button. It then rebooted. But still, not a true reboot like you said.

I come to you all with a slight problem. I own a rooted Incredible 2 device and I'm doing great. My friend, however, owns a Droid 4. She went from an Envy3 to a brand-spankin'-new smartphone. She came to me for help since I pretend to know what I'm talking about.
Now the problem she's having is that sometimes when she turns her phone on, the backlight come on and the softkey lights come on, but the phone doesn't boot up. I've played with it a bit and after doing to reset method (hold down power + vol down) and it works every now and again but most of the time it does not work.
I'm hoping you guys can diagnose and help me out. Thanks!
I imagine you've already checked, but just in case and because the most obvious things tend to sometimes slip our minds...the battery is charged, right? If it shuts back down before fully booting, that could be it. If it just sits there partially booted, idk. Also, plugged in or not plugged in when this happens?

Haha, yes. I was going to add that in the original post but I thought it was too obvious. Uh, it might be partially booted? It's just the backlight and softkeys that are lit up.

It seems when I charge my n7 fully it will not switch on like it should. Usually I just press the on button briefly and it pops on. However when I charge it fully I have to keep the power button pressed on for about 15 seconds before it will turn on then it acts fine again until I fully charge it.
Thanks for any help

Niggle is like a small problem lol. And people with battery issues are popping open the back and making sure the battery is connected properly. I have seen a lot of cases where it has worked, give it a try or u can just send it back.

Thanks for your replies, i cant see it being a battery connection issue as it starts first time unless its fully charged, i did think about sending it back but to be honest its not a big issue it just means i have to hold the power button in for 20 seconds after a full charge. If it does get worse i have always got a years gurantee and can send it back.

No, I love that you did. I kinda miss all the usual British colloquialisms from whence I grew up. Not so much here in NYC..
Is that not just holding power button to shutdown?
I know from installing a ROM, i kinda screwed things up and it locked on the goolge boot up screen, long holding the power button shut the device off.
Hi,
i got my Xperia Z yesterday and already have a problem. Yesterday in the evening i listened to some audible content. I didn´t turn off the app, because it goes in sleep mode after finishing the downloaded part. I had stamina mode active. Today my phone doesn´t react. It is off the screen is dark. I can push the powerbutton how i want, the phone doesn´t react. I tried to recharge it, because i thought the battery was completly empty, but i don´t even have the led active which is normally active when you plug in your phone.
Does anybody have had the same issues? And can give me a hint what to do? Otherwise i will have to change the device tomorrow. It´s my first sony, so perhaps there is a trick with it i don´t know.
Take it back.

Can some1 check temps?
Might be a safe mode of sorts due to overheating?
Sounds like this is a common issue on the forums.
i don´t think its because of overheating. Today it was two times in sleepmode for a bit longer, and after both i had to restart it with the method mentioned above. I think it is a software failure. Maybe something with the staminamode. I will switch the staminamode off and wait if it happens again.

You don't have choice if the phone freezes
Sent from my GT-N7000 using Tapatalk 2
Ever since they introduced non-removable batteries with XS ( and I still have a bone to pick with Sony regarding that choice ), they introduced a hardwired phone reset/shut down combination that is accessed via volume up+power button, that apparently by the sound of this thread, still functions the same as it did with S.
I've had my Xperia S freeze in middle of something ( can't remember what ) after it went to standby mode, and the only way to fix it is either to wait for your battery to die, or to manually reset the phone via volume up+power button combo.
It's safe to perform as much as you'd like, it just resets the phone or shuts it down, depending on how long you keep it pressed. It saved my Xperia S from water damage on one occassion, although I guess I won't have that problem with Z.
The same thing happens with my nexus 4.. Its somewhat related to hardware I guess. Cos xperia z and nexus 4 are very simpilar in case of hardware. around 10% people are facing such problems on nexus 4. Its a hardware problem I guess..

Well, last night my NS4 was bricked... Running Rasbean + trinity 109 I was performing an antutu benchmark and the device just powered off. Could not get it back on and only shows the red led. Tried everything that was available on the net (fastboot, flash stock images, 312321 button combinations etc.). I'm going to set up an RMA and already spoke to a Google rep. Since I ordered through a friend in the UK the RMA must ship there. Won't be a problem. Time to relock the bootloader and send that brick away
Congrats.
Btw. most people fixed it with just leaving it charging for a while and then rebooting.

Wasn't a solution available a few weeks ago, when someone posted a video of releasing the battery a bit and the red light disappeared and the phone started working again.

if fastboot works, it should be fine... system/data/boot/recovery are all flashable. fastboot boot recovery.img and reflash rasbean? after you flash stock images it just hangs at the google screen? i doubt it's bricked

This exact same thing happened to me. I was on CodefireX with franco.Kernel and I was running an Antutu benchmark and it just powered off to a red blinking LED.
I too tried everything but I couldn't get it into recovery or fastboot.
I ended up just sending it back to T-Mobile (one year warranty) without locking the bootloader again for a replacement.

well it just shuts down then I have to power it on again. happens randomly. twice a day. battery lasts 2 days since it is large one. I restored stock and problem still persists. It did that on custom roms too. I do not know if it might be the eb40 causing it or what. I have done clean installs and everything but again no fix...

I take it from your description of the phone simply goes dark without a powerdown sequence embedded boots normally only after you press the power button.
How long has this phone given you good service since the EB40 modification?
When you did the modification did you fully cut away the plastic frame?
After a set down will the phone we start without pressing the power button?
Has the phone been dropped recently? Is it in a protective case? These are the questions I had in mind what I ask you for more details.

I replied with the fix in the eb40 thread. Also you may need to calibrate battery, you can use program from play store for that.
