A few days ago I updated to JF's 1.5. I installed the radio update first, wiped, installed 1.5, wiped again (sounds gross I know), and now I'm ready to roll. Overall it's VERY snappy, VERY stable, and I'm highly pleased with it's feature set. However, there are a few lingering questions.
Feel free to add your own to this list-- this post is intended to be a campfire discussion about Cupcake (of sorts). As always, if I posted in the wrong place...mods do your thing.
What I do like:
-The improved integration across the apps (messaging, Gtalk, Dialer, etc). I like that when you're signed into Gtalk, you can see which of your contacts are signed in as well from the contact list, the messaging app....this is very handy. Also the menu's have been cleaned up VERY well, and it's just generally more pleasing to navigate. It feels way less clunky than RC33.
Good job Google.
-The Browser. I'm noticing a big speed increase over the last version of Chrome-lite.
Not much else to say, I just felt like that should be mentioned.
-Bluetooth pairing. I noticed that when I paired my BT headset, I didn't have to enter a key this time.
Very nice.
-Live folders kick ass. I see a lot of potential here.
-Overall speed of Cupcake, the transitions and so forth. The menus flow nicely from one screen to the next, and the new transitions add to the whizbang factor that Android will need to gain more mainstream appeal. Enabling 'Fancy transitions' in Spare Parts is good for wowing your friends too.
Show em...then ask them if their iPhone can do that
Now onto the gripes:
-What happened to the Undelivered messages functions in SMS? Meaning, if a message fails to send, while we do get a prompt saying so, we dont have a way to resend the message (past retyping it). I don't know if it will attempt to resend after a certain period of time on it's own, but I don't think so. I've let undelivered messages sit for hours...and they never resend.
-No auto rotate on the home screen. I don't know if this is something JF chose to leave out of his build, or if this is just the way Cupcake is...but that seems kinda weird from a usability standpoint. If I'm using an app in landscape mode, and hit the home button...why would I want it to rotate back to portrait?
...Just to open the app again, and have it rotate back to landscape?
-I'll wait before T-Mo releases the RC version of Cupcake before submitting this as a feature request but I noticed that all phone numbers, addresses & such in the browser are not clickable. Meaning if a run a search for a business...and the phone number shows in the results field, I can't always click on it to dial. This was the one thing I always loved about the Blackberry browser (though Chrome kicks it's ass in every other regard).
...Your thoughts?
just to say i have not had the issue with clicking on phonenumbers on webapages.

Let me see if I can explain this properly...
I run a google search for say, "Pizza Hut Baltimore." In the list of results, I can click the phone number to dial for the top result only. If one of the results further down has a number in the description field, I cannot click it. Nor the address for that matter. Now if I click the link of the result, and go to the page...I can then click the number, address etc.
To me personally this is not a HUGE deal. In fact I considered it as normal since I noticed that same thing in RC33.
Overall, it's what i wanted. I will say that having the home screen autorotate might be a bit of a battery drain. It seemed to when i had it running on rooted rc33. Whenever i turned it off there was a noticeable improvement in battery life. I'm just saying.
The home screen didn't auto-rotate in the adp 1.5 build either. That's just how it is.
Messages not being sent:
Long click the message that didn't send, press edit, then send again.
No 'Home' button in the browser now. I've been clicking space + menu for awhile now but not having it makes one handed navigation slightly more difficult.
For SMS that are unsent, it will show an envelope with an exclamaition point to the right of it correct? Well what you can do it tap on that icon and it will put it back into the text field. that way you can just tap send again without retyping it.

That's a HUGE gripe of mine as well.
I wish there was an easy html or xml file that we could edit and change every one of those buttons. The GO button is a waste of space too since you basically can just type any url and hit enter and there you go. That GO could nicely be replaced with HOME.
Just to update this thread:
-Several apps I have installed show as no updates being available (in the Market). As a workaround, I have to select the app, then click 'View more applications' and then the update shows. Very annoying...
-WiFi perfomance is very flaky. I routinely have to toggle it on/off a few times before it picks up an IP. This happens at multiple locations, across different brand routers, so it has to be the phone.
I do not have anything special going on aside from running JF's v1.51. No apps2sd, themes...none of that, and I did wipe before and after installing the update.
....but I think the majority of these problems are cause by the recent radio update. If you search around...the issues are well documented.
Hello. I have a nokia lumia 520 and I have a little problem with my menu (that menu that apears after I swipe to left).
I don't know exactly what I do but now in that menu my apps are sorted by letters. I mean in front of apps that starts with "A" I have a letter "A"... How can I remove that letters? I just want to have my apps without that letters in front.
I hope you understand my problem...
This feature has existed for like 1.5 years and is well documented, by the way... it's called a jump list, and enables you to skip around in your app list (for example, get to apps that start with "T" without needing to scroll through most of the alphabet). It is enabled automatically once you have at least 45 items in the list (this includes things like email accounts, but not stuff that isn't in that list such as individual games, Settings apps, or so forth). To the best of my knowledge, there's no way to turn it off again short of resetting the phone, though. I wouldn't want to - I believe my app list has over 100 items by now - but to each their own (or not, as the case may be here). Try it; you'll probably find it's a lot faster than scrolling or typing a search query.
Yeah, with the list indexed as it is, it is much easier to get to WPCentral or WPTorrent now. Tap the letter, then W.. Boom, you're there!!
So the finial version has come out. Im sure a lot of you guys have updated to it. Plus a lot of you have been using the Dev version along the way.
What are your guys thoughts?
I like the the new version but also there are still tons of things are are bugging the *poop* out of me.
I thought this was going to be "THE" version that appeased almost all android fans. Fixed a lot the issues since 2.3 while bringing a lot of new features.
1st the things i dont like.
1. Battery % WHY THE *heck* do we still not have an option to turn on a battery % next to the battery icon?????!!!!!!!
2. Hangouts picture (when syncing with FB) not always showing up bug is still present.
3. I like the new light colors with white and grey but why did they choose that color of teal. Im not super excited about that but i do like the white backgrounds.
4. Multitask menu. I dont like how EVERYTHING is in there. And why do we STILL NOT HAVE A CLEAR ALL
5. Google Now launcher. I like it and dont like it. Dont like how everything is so big and dont like how i cant have the middle space be my default. But Nova fixed that. Plus im rooted so i changed my DPI
6. Battery life. Ive only used it for 1 day (going on 1 day) but it seems my battery life is worse then on 4.4.4
7. Battery menu. Dont like anything about it.
Things i do like.
1. Material design (in most places) animations and universal layout for apps is nice.
2. Lockscreen notifications although i dont like how EVERYTHING is on there but im still messing with the menu for this feature.
Im still playing with it and im sure it will get better as apps update (what took them so long) but over all im kinda disappointed with the amount of hype 5.0 got.
Same here, like it but meh it's not there yet, hoping for apps updates etc. And my battery life is slightly worse too
I like it so far, but smart lock seems buggy as hell. I've got my Moto 360 set up as a trusted device, and even went so far as to set up face unlock, and still, I'm prompted for a passcode more often than not. There really needs to be a rescan option -- or, better yet, just make it work like it's supposed to.
Battery life seems worse for me too but I will give it another few days before really making that decision
Make sure you turn WiFi always scanning off. I am getting better than the Dev preview because of the fixed WiFi drain bug. I like it though.
Sent from my Nexus 5 using XDA Free mobile app
You cant know anything about battery one day after update, after update system still need some time to "sit on place" and its drains battery.
Where is material design music. Sadly it doesn't animate when I press the play button. I really like what was was shown in the demo .

I have my moto 360 set up as a trusted device and I never need to unlock my phone. Only on reboot. rest of the time works perfectly.
Im not using face unlock though.
hmmm...
i don't like how you'not able to delete multiple contacts + separation of the phone numbers from the emails.
photos app gather all the jpg files that are in the sdcard which kinda sucks (dude, i don't need my album art in my photo gallery.) + you need Google+ enabled to be able to just look at the photos.
multitask is OMG.... really really nice effect but damn, is there any real need to "mark" every menu page i open? (oh, where's the "clear all" button?)
camera is ok but there is no 0.03 seconds of the new API. pictures are taken as slow as before.
material design is not bad but it shines on multiple layers only.
keyboard is really cool looking and although it'll take some time to get used to "button-less buttons" i do like it.
and battery, well, i can't say since it's only 1 day of use.
still, i think it's going to be ok (i still hate those wakelocks though... ) and last but not least, Chrome... i still miss "text wrapping" that's why i use Opera
all in all, i don't hate it, i'm not thrilled about it but i'm sure it'll "grow on me".
UI looks definitely great, performance and battery haven't improved, nor got worse. But it's too early to comment on that.
No toggle in quick settings to cycle through sound modes(sound/silent,vibrate), dafuq Google? I'm certainly missing Xposed.
very annoyed about the removal of the stock email app, i dont want to comingle gmail and my work stuff.

Really? I cant find it. Ended buying 'nine'
I really like having all my emails in gmail app. First day of use, I'm going to get 4hrs sot without messing with settings. It runs really smooth with hells kernel. I would like the pull downs yo have more options, but all in all, I'm happy.

I haven't had to enter my PIN once since I set up smart lock with my 360 and face yesterday. Works great!
You can't use the Photos app if you disable the Google+ app. So.... now I have to open the camera app and scroll through my pictures one by one to view them. Super!
I kinda don't like it.
1: The color scheme is not consistent throughout, which really irritates me. While you spend most of your time in a launcher (I use Nova pesonally) or in apps, some of those apps are system apps, and it seems like almost all of them have had color changes, they don't look good and don't even make sense.
2: Some of the features are cool, and even sound great...but they are commonly riddled with "omg, no way!" points of frustration. Smart-lock...would be AWESOME if it would just freaking work when connected to a specific wifi network! For example...in prior versions I had used tasker and secure settings to disable the lock screen and have a significantly longer screen timeout whenever I was connected to my home wifi. Tasker works just fine for the other things I use it for, such as reading my text messages outloud...but only when I'm connected to my home wifi or headphones. But the pin lock errors out, every single time. Root works, tasker and secure settings are configured exactly as they were before, and they both even have administrative rights. It still fails every time, and I get the toast message pop up. I wonder if it is because Google is worried that your neighbor might name their wifi network to the same as yours is, and have it be an open network so when they steal your phone they would automatically be able to get into it. If that is the case...well, that should be easy to fix, one make the service only work with password protected networks, and I'm also sure they could just only have it work when the network name is also reporting the same mac address. But I digress.
3: Lightflow. Ugh, enough said. You might say this is not a lollipop specific thing, but the guy posted an inquiry on this on the support thread since it was an complication with the new notification system, and they responded back saying they fixed it, and it has still not been pushed out by Google yet!
4: I find myself unable to quickly remove notifications from the lock screen and even when the phone is unlocked in some instances. For example, if I am copying lots of individual files over wifi from my computer, and there are multiple "copied" notifications as a result, the first few can be swiped away, but the rest can't! I have to click on them, and then close it. Kinda annoying.
5: One of the only reasons why I really wanted Lollipop were for the improvements to the lockscreen notifications. I envisioned being able to stop using dashclock entirely, and also having an all around easier time with notifications while the phone was locked. Nope! Sure, the basic functionality is good, I can read text messages without an app for it, and that's great...but I have to say I really miss having the unlock ability from just turning the phone on and swiping. Now I have to turn the phone on, press the padlock to get the phone to switch to the pattern lock, then do the pattern lock. That extra step is really quite annoying for me. I'd prefer to have the "extra step" be to SEE THE NOTIFICATIONS. You know, just like how it used to be with dashclock. (You would know you had a notification by the little icon right next to the time and you would swipe down from there to read them) Maybe I'm crazy, but I unlock my phone a lot more often than I have notifications to read. Especially since I can't get the pinlock automatic toggle to work when I am connected to my home wifi!
6: Most lock screen icons are blocked...and for good reason. But some of them are not. For example, in power toggles I have always used an icon that automatically makes a 14 minute timer, and another one for 29 minutes. I use this for my breaks at work of course. (The icon triggers a task in the "Trigger" app that does this) This works from the lockscreen...which sounds great because I can set that timer without having to unlock my phone...but it has also been deactivated by mistake when the phone was in my pocket. Ugh!
7: I don't like the "swipe down" from either the lock screen or from notifications bar option. A lot of this is because I am really used to using powertoggles for this, and this duplicates a lot of that functionality, but
I knew this was going to happen, I have been complaining about software "improvements" at work for the last year and a half. If something is working, don't break it!

Yeah, I've figured out the issue. I use "Gravity Screen" to shut my device down when I put it in my pocket. It seems that if Gravity Screen puts the device into standby, it also locks the screen in such a way that Smart Lock is disabled. Since that's normally how I shut off my device, I was seeing this almost every time. I'm hoping that the dev can fix this, because I'm really not used to touching my power button.
On another note. I wouldn't mind the email integration with Gmail, except that there's no way to label my various Exchange accounts. I have two separate Exchange accounts that I must monitor, and both simply show as a random-colored circle with a letter "J" (which is the first letter of each email address). I can't even change the color to something that would help distinguish the accounts. I just have to remember that random-color-J #1 equals one account, and random-color-J #2 equals another. It's very annoying. A combined inbox certainly wouldn't hurt, either.
Noticing that sometimes my screen doesn't respond on the homepage but if i hit home it looks like an overlay shrinks down to bottom of screen and ibsee the home screen again, then it works. Recent change, no new apps installed. Malwarebytes says no suspicious packages.
Noticing same thibg w fingerprint reader too. Doesn't wotk. Close app, reopen and now works.
Almost like something sitting on top of the android interface.

I'd take your device to either a Samsung Service Center or back to the retailer for a replacement unit if possible. As there is a chance that you were sold a faulty unit.

Can you get into recovery or download mode? I would try a factory reset or flash stock firmware with Odin to rule out firmware/software issues first.
Check which apps have permission to draw over the screen, also try see if it happens in safe mode.
Thanks, where do i check that? Under app permissions there is no draw over screen

Well, are there other options for defining a keylogger or not? I am almost sure that a huge number of manufacturers initially integrates various keyloggers into their programs, especially for software manufacturers under MAC. No wonder, but sometimes it’s really worth it, only if you use this application exactly as you should. In any case, I don’t think it’s a toy, it’s illegal, the main thing is to coordinate it, like this application https://www.refog.com/, it’s convenient because you install it yourself and are responsible for it.

No one really has an idea. For all you know, all the custom ROM developers in XDA could be inserting keyloggers into the ROMs and no one would notice. Normally such keyloggers are required to be enable in 'Accessibility' in Settings; however most developers here could easily integrate it into the system and name it to be something less malicious. i.e. "qualcommaptlog", "Audiolog".
I'm just blindly making accusations. But I expect that this topic should be discussed widely among developers.
If my comment here gets deleted or this thread gets closed.. I'm going to assume that my accusations above are correct.
I've been playing around with some of the settings regarding the Korean Model's Dual Screen. This Thread is just meant to discuss what I've found.
Dual Home Launcher:
The Dual Screen has its own launcher, to which the Dual Screen will always return when the "Home" button is taped on the Dual Screen. There is no option to set a "Default Launcher" for the Dual Screen. Of the standard launcher options preinstalled on the main device, the Dual Home Launcher most closely resembles the "Home & App Drawer" launcher, but is its own environment.
The Dual Screen can load a different launcher as you would load a typical app, but the home button will always take your back to the Dual Home Launcher. A different launcher can be assigned as the "Dual App" (the app that automatically loads whenever the dual screen is turned on) but again, the home button will still take your back to the Dual Home Launcher. Additionally, when a "Dual App" is assigned, they Dual App will automatically be brought to the forefront whenever the device is brought back from "screen off", opened from a closed state, or returned from the 360° opened, second screen off position. Basically, using a Dual App is an annoying option, and it doesn't work to assign a different launcher for the dual screen anyways.
I have discovered that is possible to open the Dual Home Launcher on the main screen. To do it, you need Nova Launcher or Action Launcher on your system, or a similar Launcher that adds an "activities" widget. In the activities widget's apps list, you will find the Dual Home Launcher as as n app, and the primary launcher activity can be used to bring it up on the primary screen. As usual, if you got home on the dual screen, it just moves the application over to that screen.
I'm interested in testing with the disabling of the Dual Home Launcher App, per this method: https://www-xda--developers-com.cdn...ers.com/disable-system-app-bloatware-android/, but I have no idea what it would do. Too bad I can't make a TWRP backup first. I'm also interested in the idea of spoofing the app's name in the system to make the device think that a third party launcher is the Dual Home Launcher and basically set THAT launcher as the default Dual Screen launcher. In particular, I think Lucid Launcher, AIO Launcher, or WX Launcher would be good Default Dual Screen Launchers, per my tastes, but I think having Lawnchair on the Dual Screen next to Nova Prime would probably be a popular setup.
Tasker:
The App Tasker has had zero efforts in it's development for dual screen compatibility, as far as I can tell. Events triggered to bring up apps or things like that will have their action committed on whichever screen is active at the time, basically, whichever screen you've used last.
To demonstrate what I mean, as a test, I've loaded up a simple "torch" app on both screens that has one function, a single tap on the screen will make the screen change from white to Black, or black to White. If you tap the second screen, it changes, then you tap the primary screen, "nothing" happens and it requires a second tap to change the color is the main screen. Then, tap the second screen again, and it takes two taps to cause the app's function. When you are using one screen, your first touch on the other screen doesn't activate anything, just changes the focus of the device to that screen, whereupon you can begin making touch inputs on that screen. The screen that you're on, that you've used last, is your active screen. This is the screen that Tasker will commit actions on, regardless of which environment triggers the event. There is no option in the Tasker Dialogues to choose which screen something will target. I haven't experimented with it much at this time, but I'm certain that this could cause bugs and failed triggers if you have triggers try to target an environment in which an app that would be expected to be forefront is not there. I haven't experimented much yet, but I've been attempting to make contact with the Developers of Tasker, to add a screen targetting plugin, and to add "Secondary Display on", "Secondary Display off", and "Secondary Display Load App" as selectable event triggers. I've been on the Tasker Forums, and someone recommended I explore the methods on here: https://forum.joaoapps.com/index.ph...ings-to-use-in-autotools-secure-settings.210/ to try and find the variables for Secondary Display On/Off at least, and I'm hopeful that there might be a way to shift focus to one screen or the other as part of a series of actions, which would allow an app to be loaded on a specific screen. I'm interested to see what can be done in this regard.
"Island" App:
The App "island" is a very interesting project that is still under development. When you install it, it requests the permissions and then takes you through the setup of a "Work" App Environment, and installs to it another copy of the Google Play Store. Basically, this Play Store is the same as your normal Play Store, and should be linked up to the same Google Account. The App's icon gets a little Briefcase on it to signify that it's a Work app, and you have to set up a second Pin, Knock Code or Password for it (I'm not sure if this can be the same it not. I made mine different). When you load it, it asks for the code, and then opens a normal looking play store, except none of your apps are downloaded yet. Any app that you download with this play store get that same little Briefcase icon, and exist as "Work" apps, which basically lets you install two copies of any app.
Some limitations: any Launchers that you attempt to download within the Work Environment will only include Work Environment Apps within their app drawers. Normal, or "personal" environment Launchers, however, DO show Work Environment Apps next to their regular, "Personal" Environment counterparts. "Work" Launchers do not appear in the "default launcher selection" dialogues. Widget's are funky too. Work Environment Apps that have widgets do not have them become available universally, the way that normal apps do. Work Environment Launchers with widgets, for instance, can only load those widgets within that launcher. Basically, "Work" dual loaded Launchers just aren't a great idea.
Island also adds another APK installer, do you can install any downloaded apk in the work environment. I haven't tested installing an alternative app store in the work environment, but I would imagine that one would still install apps from it into the Work Environment as well. Untested theory though.
Using island, you can load to copies of, say, social media apps, and then have both apps running at the same time, one on one display, the other on the other, whereas, normally trying this would just cause the app to jump over to that screen, rather than dual booting. In most cases, you can log in the same account, or a different account, on the two screens. Be actively watching two different Discord servers on your device, from one single account, for instance, if you'd like.
Island is a little funky in certain regards, as it's still in development, but I've gotta say, it works very well at this point. And it basically makes every app in existence dual screen compatible.
I haven't tried installing a Qslide app in the Work Environment yet. I'm intrigued, now that I'm thinking about it.
Shoot, I've written a serious mini novel here. I guess I'll stick a bookmark in it here for now. I'll keep this Thread up to date on what I've discovered though. I've got a few avenues that I want to explore.
Hi,
That's a fascinating piece, especially as Sky Go in the UK, won't play for me on the V50.
There is a theory that as it's effectively casting to the second screen Sky Go blocks the TV content.
Of course it may just be an Android 9 system issue?
Still working on exactly what's going on.
I have taken the V50 out off the Dual screen case but it makes no difference.
The island app may possibly be another avenue to pursue.
Any advice or comment would be most welcome.
Again a most interesting post.

There are no pins on the rear of the US model to use dual screen or the coordinating case. Only over seas models. We're outta luck.

Can you search 'dual screen' on setting?
Search dual screen in settings
No, but you can find the options relating to the dual screen feature by using a shortcut app to find the hidden options, and create a home screen shortcut if necessary. Idk what you can use em for, but they are buried in the system somewhere.
WHOA, the v50 can have a dual screen? Where can I find it?
I thought only the v60 could.
Please let me know if I'm reading this correctly!

Thank you. Yeah, I looked for a way to connect one and didn't find anything. I have the 450.

I have a model I bought off ebag that says its an LG V50, V450VM. I updated it over the air on verizon and the multiple updates went though no problem, the box was all in Chinese for the most part, says made in china and it has the 3 pogo pin connection on the back of the case. Will the second screen work with this model, whatever the hell it really is? It seems to work just fine on Verizon and like I said, it updated flawlessly.

PS : if the dualscreen is not working due to V450VM ROM maybe you can use LG UP do flash a V500N ROM ... hopefully the "bands" are compatible with verizon ... also you may ask on reddit or telegram : https://android.fandom.com/wiki/V50_ThinQ ...
Hi Pierro, so I have my second screen with the pogo pins in it now. It sadly does not seem to work with Verizon, when I snap the phone into it, I get nothing. Perhaps I will try flashing a different software on it as you suggested......
Here's the only reliable way I could find to do it. It's a tiny bit quirky but it works great.
LG Dual Screen Launcher
I have an idea You can try installing some launchers (like Niagara for example) And then set it to launch the app launcher automatically when opening the dual screen. Hope it works for you
