So I found out about a week ago that I missed an mms new years day. The only reason I even found out is because I opened the AT&T messages up and started viewing all "unread" messages. (In quotes because they had already been read on other apps.)
So then I opened the stock s5 messages app and noticed that that along with Chomp had not received that mms.
I don't know if I've missed any others.
AT&T messages is by far not the best texting app out there, but if that app is the only one that I can confidently count on to get all of my messages then what other choice do I have. (P.S. I don't like it because it doesn't do sms popups.)

Yeah that's a good one. I wish we could still use multiple sms apps like before. Now 4.4 makes you choose a default.

I used to have a Galaxy S3 that was AT&T, and I flashed ROMs almost every other day. Lot's of times I would forget to use SMS Backup, or Titanium Backup, or Helium/Carbon. Since I was flashing all the time, I was constantly Wiping my info, and once the phone was up and running I would just Download AT&T Messaging App, and I would not have lost ANY of my messages, and also didn't have to backup any messages prior.
I say all of this because I now have an AT&T Galaxy S5 SM-G900A and 1.) It really frustrates me that there aren't that many ROMs for it yet. but also because 2.) After I rooted my GS5 as well as installed SafeStrap Recovery, I also have every message on my phone, even ones from my GS3, due to the AT&T Messaging App, I think it works fairly well, plus you've got all your Voicemails there as well, and the majority of them are readable thanks to the AT&T Visual Voicemail feature, just my opinion....Now if only I can find some Lollipop ROMs for this thing, then I'll be cooking with grease!

Hate to break it to you but you won't find a lollipop rom for this model, all roms have to be touchwiz based. Such is life with a locked bootloader.

NOOOOOOOO!!!!! Are they ever going to work on unlocking the Bootloader? My Old Motorola Xoom Tablet Had a Locked Bootloader and I was able to unlock it with ADB/Fastboot and put Cyanogen Mod 10.1 and it originally started with Android Honeycomb 3.0. So I would think there would be a way? And also I was wondering, if I have SafeStrap installed, and an OTA upgrade from AT&T comes through should I download it?

Only way as of now is get the keys somehow or bruteforce, neither of which are possible. No, don't take the ota, when one comes someone will make a wayto update to it and poat about it in general most likely, but there hasnt been an ota in a while. Check the ATT s5 android development forum, theres quite a few nice roms there.

If you take any updates it will break root.
No this bootloader won't be unlocked or it would've been by now and expect any new ATT devices to locked tight as well.
There are quite a few G900F Roms and G900T to. In the G900A thread there's four.
I personally ran VisionX and ViSiX Roms for G900A and I ran Pyrana and ClinchL Roms from the G900F threads.
You can flash those Roms just not any custom kernels or AOSP Roms.

I have a rooted sprint hero running aosp mod (latest stable, not gingerbread - don't remember the version number). Up until Sunday everything was working fine. Sunday evening I noticed that I hadn't gotten any texts all day (highly unusual). Started to text my fiancée, didn't recieve a response. Called her a couple hours later, she said she'd recieved them and replied. I figured it was a sprint issue and would pass by the next day. Next day, still nothing. Stood next to a friend of mine, had him text me, nothing. Sent him a text and he received it almost instantly. As of today I still can't recieve texts, though everything else works just fine. Is this a simple software issue on my end that can be fixed by reflashing my rom? Or is it something more serious that I need to see a sprinnt Rep for? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I saw a guy have this issue with cyanogenmod. He ended up flashing a different rom and all his texts came through at once then. He was using the nightly releases, so I think he just waited until the next nightly came out. You might should just reflash and see if that helps.
This is a common issue. Usually it is due to deleting the stock messaging app because you have handcent or chomp, but those apps pull the info from the stock sms app, so if you deleted it, reinstall it. The other cause is just a known bug in froyo, and though I have never had the issue, many many others have been able to fix it by going into recovery, nandroiding your current setup, wipe EVERYTHING, flash a sense rom, go into settings and update your profile and PRL, then open texts up (you should get a bunch), then going back into recovery, wipe everything again, and restore your nand. Hope this fixes it, good luck.
Sounds good, I'll give it a shot when I get off work. Does it matter what sense rom I flash? More specifically, can I just use an ruu from HTC.com or will I lose my root?

RUU takes longer. also, dpending on how you rooted you will probably lose root. just run ANY sense based rom (custom too), fresh,NFX,liquid, whatever, it'll only take like 5-10 minutes. Also, just a hint, make a nand of the sense rom before you go back to your current one, that way you can update your profile/PRL whenever you want. I keep a sense NFX rom in my nand folder for just that.
Or you can wait till I release an updated dualboot script and have both easily accessible. Should be released this week.
Oh, and like some others said, its a problem with froyo and some phones. You might look in the froyo sense thread and try the fix listed in the first post.

You're awesome. Followed your advice, worked perfectly.
However, I'm now having a separate issue (I assume). All physical keys work fine, with the exception of my home key which does absolutely nothing once the phone boots. Is this a related issue? Did I screw up somewhere along the line?

I have heard of this as well. Can't remember the fix, but it sounds rom related. The home key action is in /system/usr/keylayout/heroc-keypad.kl you can also check there? You could try to re-restore the nand again - wipe ALL first. Also, I know most launchers have home key options, make sure those settings look normal. Also maybe go into your launcher app in settings/apps/manage apps and clear the defaults for it, then see if home does anything. IF that doesn't work search for member "appleflap" on xda, he made a hardkey remapper that you can fix/change the function of the home key.
Reflashed the current nand to no avail. Flashed a clean install of aosp, works fine. I can deal with the loss of my settings, I suppose.
Thanks for all of your help, bud.

I am actually having a similar issue, but I am periodically not able to send texts. Receive just fine, but some texts fail over and over.
I am running CM 6.1 stable, and using the default text app. Anyone had this issue?
Sorry about the bump, but I did not feel it necessary to create a new thread after I found this one.
Edit: I totally also recognize this could be something to do with the sprint network as well
This isn't a much used feature so I doubt many people catch it, but maybe someone will have an answer. I like using the Delivery Confirmation for SMS that android has built into the Messaging app. Now the problem: When I have it set to request a notification, in the stock messaging app, it always says "pending" whereas in GoSMS it behaves correctly and either confirms/denys. I know I could just use Go, but I would prefer the stock app work correctly. I am on the most current ICS ROM by Koush, but there has been this issue as far as I can remember, on stock ROM's, CM7, and even on the Galaxy S's. Any ideas?

Forgive me if I have misunderstood but this is how delivery reports work on stock 2.3.6:
It says pending after the message has been sent but not received, and then shows a received icon (and says received if you check the report) once it has been received by the recipient.
Isn't this happening on your device?

That is how it should work, correct. The stock messaging app never shows anything other than pending, where as GOsms tells me (on the same text message) that it has been received. I am also sure that it is received when go says it is, because people reply.
Well I'd wipe the data for the stock sms app and go from there.
Probably rom specific but I guess it could be to do with your carrier...

It can't be my carrier, because go works. It also can't be my ROM, because it has been persistent across ROMs and devices. I have done many full wipes in the past week, thus clearing all messaging data, and it has not fixed the issue.

Well I don't know much about sms protocols but if it has happened across multiple devices (assuming you stayed on the same carrier) it could be possible that your carriers delivery reports have a compatibility issue with the stock app but not with go sms.
I am of course just hypothesising .
Hi there, I searched the forum for this and couldn't seem to find anything on it, and this had like 20 views and not one reply in the general Q&A section, so here goes;
I have a Droid Bionic on Verizon. I used Pete's one click root app and it worked great. I then loaded the Liberty rom as it was touted to have the best battery life. I love everything about the rom EXCEPT that there seems to be no visual voice mail with it. I don't want/need some fancy overly complicated vvm app like all the ones I found in the marketplace, so I was just wondering how/if I can get this resolved.
I tried downloading the Verizon VVM APK (I just Google searched for it) but then when I opened it, it popped up a message saying that my phone already had VVM on it and to use that one. I'm stuck.
I also just received a new update to my phone OTA, called 5.5.886.XT875. I'm on Android Version 2.3.4, if any of that matters.
This weekend I tried loading the UNLEASHED rom and the BLURRED rom this weekend, but one didn't have a camera app (BLURRED) and the UNLEASHED (which I'm using atm) is just slow and glitchy and I don't like it. I really wanna go back to Liberty but must have vvm for my line of work.
So, does anyone have any thoughts on this? Is there a way to contact a rom developer directly that I'm missing somewhere or something like that? Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.
Try http://rootzwiki.com/forum/81-droid-bionic/
I think the dev spends more time over there.
I'm getting sick of the lag on my 4x. Camera tags so long the moment has past, messaging crashes 50% of the time, needing the recent tasks to be brought up and cleared before it will work again, browser is infuriating, and whenever anyone calls, the phone will ring and vibrate, but the screen will take so long in bringing up the 'answer/reject' options that sometimes the caller has rung off before I've even had a chance to answer!
This is on the most recent official 4.1.2
I know there's loads of roms available to me, but I need an un-rooted one, as I use the barclays banking app a lot for my business and it won't work on a rooted device.
Is it simple to just turn off the root mode on a custom rom?
Are most of them quite stable nowadays?

i'm almost sure you can't have a custom rom without root. try using some launcher to get your phone smoother like nova or adw and some task killers like clean master.
AFAIK, Omni is not rooted. You have to install SuperSU separately.
Also OP, this isn't the adequate section of the forum and the title of the thread is confusing too.
Even if you flash a rooted rom, the su app should give you an option to unroot (deleting the su binaries).. However, by doing this you'll lose some rom's features, which work with su permissions.. BTW, @laufersteppenwolf, maybe it's better to move this thread in Q&A section

Thanks all,
I'll have a look at the custom roms and choose a new one I reckon!
RootCloak looks a great idea! Exactly what I need!
I'm assuming most users (those of you who replied) don't find your phones as unusable as mine with your custom roms installed?

Hi,
So I'm having a lot of trouble trying to configure a solution to this problem! When I text my girlfriend who is French, her iPhone can't receive accented characters, it instead replaces them with other characters. I presume this is a problem with the Unicode settings on my phone but can't find much information on this topic anywhere! I have a Samsung galaxy s i9000 international triband, baseband I900XXJVT running cm10.1.3 (android 4.2.2). I live in.new Zealand and I'm with 2degrees as my provider, have recently switched from skinny due to band issues. Any help would be much apprecjated ! Thanks!!
Hi There,
dont know if i can really help.
i'm also on 2degrees, were the messages working correctly on skinny?
have you tried texting the same message to another Iphone? or another phone?
and/or texed from another phone to her Iphone?

Yes, I have tried many different phones. I'm sure its not the network now, so more looking at trying to see how i can change the settings on my phone, but there seems to be nothing? Can it be that the version of ROM i'm running is the problem and I need to change ROM's?

If you have tried different phones i'd say the likelihood of it being a ROM issue drops through the floor.
Unless by complete coincidence all the other phones you used were running the same ROM (or had the exactly the same settings).
Also if everything worked on skinny that would make me lean toward it being a carrier issue.
I did a quick Google and came up with this article from Apple, sounds very similar to what you have.
*** I cant post a link yet
uummm ... go to apple, then support that search "SMS messages may display incorrectly on other devices"
the article should come up at the top of the list.
hope that helps.

no problem,
its the small things that are the biggest the bum.
*oh (light bulb moment) have you tried sending a MMS instead of a text? or using whatsapp or similar?
could be a short term work around.
best of luck.
@nippynz it will work with Hangouts or Gmail, Yahoo etc.
It is BTW Apple's speciality to break purposely the compatibility between their products and Android or PC. Not even JPEG or MP3 file data transfer with Bluetooth will work between Android and iPhone. Apple sucks!
