Tasker + Stamina - Xperia Z3 Compact Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Does anyone know if it's possible to enable stamina mode with tasker? I'm able to actually run Stamina mode, but running stamina mode doesn't mean enabling it (like most other aps).

Yup, I'm using it too.
It's quite simple, just go to Power Settings, click on the left side of the STAMINA Mode line.
You'll then be moved to STAMINA Mode configuration screen, then click on the fourth line of the settings (with the big "+"), it will allow you to set the Apps which are authorized to take control of the phone under STAMINA Mode.

Thanks, but I think you misunderstood my question.
I don't want to allow Tasker while Stamina is on, I want to turn on Stamina with Tasker.
The setting that you've shown me to is a setting that kind of ignores the Stamina Mode.

In fact I did misunderstood the whole thing... I did try to find the same thing as you but I couldn't find anything useful.
It may need an extension app (there are many for Tasker on the PlayStore) to allow Tasker to take control of the STAMINA Mode.

I'll take a look @ PlayStore.
I'm surprised that more people aren't looking into the matter, because it would be perfect to automatically enable Stamina from example 11:00PM/23:00 in the evening just before you become least active on your phone and then disable it again around 08:00AM in the morning or something.

I'll try to squeeze informations about it from a few SONY developpers on SO but I'm not expecting much from them

Tell the Sony Devs (DEMAND IT!) that we also want to enable/disable Stamina Mode based on time and not only on battery percentage!:good::good::highfive:

Surely Tasker can do everything Stamina mode can do in terms of disabling certain features and apps, so why the need to even use Stamina mode? Does it have some secret sauce?!

If rooted I suppose so. I have root and have written 2 stamina mode profiles. Neither of them really deal with deactivating specific apps. One gives connectivity while screen on and one has no connectivity but phone and sms. Both turn things on and sync what I want every 40 minutes. The obsticle with disabling apps is re-enabling them all properly while the screen is off and the keygaurd is on. Its easy to do I guess but occasionally things don't go exactly as planned as you're launching apps then inputting the back key. Is there a better way to do this because I'm not at all ashamed to say that although I use the crap out of Tasker, that there's a lot I don't know... ?

I found an answer
I found a way to toggle STAMINA mode with Tasker.
In Tasker, just create a new task of type "Send Intent". Then in "Action" field, enter :
Code:
com.sonymobile.superstamina.appwidget.TOGGLE_STAMINA_MODE
Then exist Task.
Now, when you enter this Task with a profile, STAMINA mode is toggled on or off. You can check this by adding the STAMINA widget on your home, or by looking at the "+" sign near the battery indicator.
Hope this helps !

Notification LED and Stamina Mode

Hi everyone,
As you might notice, when you have Stamina Mode on you won't get LED notifications on your Xperia Z.
There’s a great app on the Play Store called Light Flow! This app let you personalize every type off notification with a vast set of colors!
The thing is, it only works with Stamina Mode off! Even if I have the application in the white list!
Anyone manage to make LED notifications work with Stamina Mode??
I got a question, how do I access the stamina mode white list?
I can't find it on my Z settings.

the same part that is responsible for notifications is responsible for showing the led. I don't think this is a service that you can white list. So hopefully Sony will see this as an bug and exempt the notification service from stamina, it they are able to control this independent from the rest of the core os.

No no no.
It doesn't prevent the service.
It prevents other apps from running under the lockscreen so they never receive notifications to show.
Sony have already provided the solution, you can add apps to the white list so that they DO run under the lockscreen (and thereby receive notifications).

with stamina mode switched on an applications in white list? Only for sms and telephone calls or also for whatsapp and email etc?
I used Light Flow on my GSIII and it caused massive battery drain, so I won't be using it on my XZ when it comes tomorrow...

Do you have LED notification when you receive a SMS with Stamina Mode on?
Notification light turns off in Stamina Mode so anyone claiming it still works is lying - There's no way to use it, hopefully Sony will change this in 4.2.2 but somehow doubt it.
You had better tell that to my device. It must be lying.

I tested properly a short while ago.
I hadn't thought twice about this before, as like I said, I receive notifications for my Corporate email account. I don't use this phone for personal use, so I hadn't tested SMS etc.
I tested a few apps earlier after I saw this thread and I can't find any others that trigger the LED notification in stamina mode.
Sorry if I mis-lead people before, I assumed that as it works for my email account, it would work for other apps.
EDIT: I don't use any other apps and am running a totally stock ROM and am not rooted as this is a work supplied device (not my choice of handset).

my stamina mode wouldnt work it just said the same hours for wen it was on and off, and i had 2 do a reset to get it working again, any1 else had this problem

Nope check Sony's video on it. Stamina does turn it off for good. It sucks, the mode does nothing for my battery life.

Security Issue with stamina mode with myxperia / android device manager

Hey guys
Have you noticed that using stamina mode both my xperia and android device manager are unable to function due to no net connectivity?
I highly believe this is a security flaw and as hence Sony must do something to fix this ASAP.
Why not just add then under the whitelist, my xperia would then function as designed to in the background
Yap,just tap on the stamina mode then select what apps that u want to activate in standby mode.

Hey guys... It doesnt seem to work, "cannot find your device" on stamina mode... and standby for 5+ minutes
Any other idaes?
It will probably never work. STAMINA mode does turn off Wifi and Mobile Data completely after finishing ongoing transmissions. It will also turn off GPS and Bluetooth when not needed. By adding an App to the Whitelist you will just allow it to run in the Background, it still won't be able to connect to the Internet though.
The problem is, that you can not turn off Mobile Data and GPS for a couple of Apps, it is a global setting.
But I don't think this is a bug, it's the way STAMINA mode works. If you don't like that you will probably have to shut it off.
EDIT: Alternatively you could try Qualcomms Battery Saver: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.xiam.snapdragon.app
Enable Gps Satellites Notification
If you just need the location access (find device) in stamina mode, it works if you enable Gps Satellites Notification app (in all other tab) along with my Xperia.

For me a workaround was to make sure the app I want notifications from is running, then press the recents button and find the app on the list, then swipe the app down, it will only move a little way then spring back and also obtains a small padlock icon.
You will probably also need to go to the settings menu and find either protected apps or app settings (depends if you are using the Lollipop version or the Marshmallow beta) and enable the setting for the app which makes it stay awake when the phone sleeps.
Thanks so so much. I try this out
You have tomark the app to run in background...
this is no bug it is an energy saving feature.
the device has a stock white list of apps allowed to run in background.
but normally you re asked if an app should be able to run in background or not.
any app that is not allowed to will be closed immediately in standby

screen overlay detected phone cannot acces drive with apps

Hello, I'm having issues with my N6 after the Marshmallow But I am facing a problem that for each application, I am getting screen overlay detected. If I follow on screen instructions, in settings, I can't change permission. i cannot upload any images from my phone to facebook, instagram basically any app trying to access the drive on my phone. can you guys help solve this issue.
thanks,
A quick Google search for "screen overlay detected" found a lot of results indicating this is due to screen filtering apps that modify the screen brightness, such as Lux, Bluelight Filter, Twilight, etc.

Yes, they also prevent you granting root access to apps too. Lux is the most common. These apps put an overlay over the UI. Android protection prevents you pressing "serious" buttons in case it is the overlay working to malicious intents.

okay. I have called google support for five nights and not one tech support person was able to help me. After countless hours of fiddling i figured out how to fix this problem. Put your phone in safe mode (press the power off button and press on the on screen power off icon until it asks if you want to go in safe mode. Press okay) then once it reboots, go to settings, then apps, click on the facebook app or whatever app you have the problem with, press permissions and then turn on all the permissions (toggle to the right and it should turn green). Repeat for whichever other apps have this problem then turn reboot the phone and voila! It's fixed. :d

I was thinking going back to Lollipop, then you saved my days. This "Screen overlay detected" was driving me nuts as I have tons of apps that requires "Draw over other apps" such as Sidebar Launcher, SuperSU, Widgetsoid, Rotation Manager... almost 30 apps. So every time I install new app I virtually have to turn off the "Draw over other apps" for all these 30 then set the permissions then turn them on again. It's so frustrating. And if I stupidly reset permissions for all apps then virtually most are unusable. Now with Safemode I can grant an app all the permissions it requires without turn the "Draw over other apps" off.

It's good you solved your problem. You shouldn't be running anything from Cheetah Mobile, as every single app they produce is pretty much junk.
Grrr
Omni swipe program can also cause this disable it or uninstall
For me it's just SwipePad that I use which has an always on overlay. If you know what apps are overlaying I've found a workaround you can setup. Ideally an app shouldn't have an invisible overlay permanently hogging resources so you should find and disable them permanently if they're unwanted anyway. An app like Elixir with it's "running" processes/services filtered to User can help finding the culprit.
So I use a workaround to quickly disable an overlay for permission toggling. A "Task Shortcut" that uses the Tasker Greenify plugin (don't know if pro is required) to Hibernate the overlay app/s, Wait for a configured time and then Wake. Note that the wake process takes five seconds to finish.
I open my shortcut from SwipePad itself for it to disable for ten seconds while I click away at permissions to my hearts content. When the time is up it resumes working normally and all is well :highfive:

This is because of the apps that are using "draw over other apps" feature. You can just turn them off from settings. If you want a head up on how to do this, you can go to this link here. Fix screen overlay detected

Use app without installing, it is a feature from Google, not a bug. You choose on playstore to have that
