When the headphone jack is being used to play music
In either my car by Jack lead or in ear headphones in get a regular "pop" while the music is playing.
Approximately five seconds apart.
I have turned headphone settings to general, clear audio on and off, still persists.
It's the same with the Walkman app also with poweramp, would an app be causing this in the background and ifso how would I find out which one?
Thanks in advance!

Try having the volume down one step or two from full see if that helps

Thanks for the suggestion, still the same as before at all volume levels.
When I say a pop that's not quite correct, it's more like a half second drop in sound.

Hey guys,
As a fan of music and having used Bluetooth headphones, corded ear phones and the phones speaker all for playing music, i find the audio output on this phone somewhat a little too quiet for my liking. After a long search, i found a way to increase the maximum volume output.
By typing in the following: *#*#197328640#*#*
Then selecting [5] then choosing either Headset (headphones), Speaker or Bluetooth.... Then selecting volume... and increasing the RX/TX volume values.
Problem i am having. Once i restart the phone, these values reset back to their defaults...SO, my question is: Is there a way to keep the values i set in each of the volume settings... it kinda doesnt make any sense for these settings to be here if they just reset after each restart...
Thanks in advance,

hi, did it work for Bluetooth ?
Whenever listening to music with the stock player the music pauses for no reason after a while. Doesn't seem to have a pattern, it has nothing to do with notifications or anything else that I can recognize. This has happened with plugged in earbuds and with a bluetooth headset so I'm guessing it's not the jack's fault.
I searched around but found nothing specific to this device, is anyone else having an issue like this? I haven't really tried using other music players, although I think it happened once with Winamp too.
On a side note, is there anyway to make a bluetooth headset control playback for programs other than the stock player? For example if I'm using Winamp and I press Next on the bluetooth headset, Winamp will pause and the stock player will start playing, really annoying. I wouldn't mind using the stock player if it worked correctly.
Not being very useful, but i have exact the same issue

have you flipped your phone over?
Did you set your CPU speed too low?
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda premium
I have the turn over motion disabled but I did activate the CPU Power Saving option. Do you think that could be the reason?
It could be since sometime when i set the CPU below 500 mega hertz the music stops occasionally when the screen is off. Just try to set above 500.

Well I disabled CPU power saving and I'm trying a different music player. Haven't experienced any weird pauses. Hopefully that was the problem.
Hi troops,
I noticed today while playing music through Bluetooth in my car (using 3rd party music app "power amp") that the dynamic normaliser seems to be active.
If it's that feature that make your music quieter when you have a heavy baseline
I find this highly irritating as I like a loud music experience with plenty of bass.
The thing is these options are all off in the walkman app settings and so I have no idea why this is still happening? :-/
Does anyone know how I can change this or improve the volume, I am sure I am missing something obvious!!
Thanks in advance, please feel free to use this thread to post any sound advice or opinions
While this is still a question I have posted in q&a, once answered perhaps it should be moved to general.

So I got annoyed with 4.1 and went back to 4.0.4 as music in the car is huge for me.
Would still like to know if anyone else has noticed this, so please let me know

Xperia V has the same problem, tried few JB roms, all have this problem
I noticed it too on ICS. I also think it's normal it behaves that way, as it also happens with Voodoo Control on my Galaxy S. Pumping up the bass lowers the overall volume.
My problem with walkman was solved after i went in settings volumes, lowered Alarm volume and bring it back to max.
After that the volume was louder again but i need to do this each time i connect the phone to the car audio.

I don't have this issue with ics, only jb. I don't mind the feature, but I don't really want it on in the car, I would prefer to control it so I can choose when/if it is active!!

Got to work this morning. Plugged in my headphones and started to listen to music using Google play. It sounded terrible very soft a high amount of background noise. Pretty much unusable. Played the same track using HTC music app and it sounds perfect no issues what so ever. Then tried streaming so music using MOG and it sounds terrible again. Anyone else have this problem?
If it matters headphones being used are vsonic gr07.

I had an issue in car when I tried to play music from htc music app through aux/headphone jack, the music was jumpy and distorted. Had it synced to my bluetooth which it usually defaults to but it didnt this time because I plugged in aux 2nd. Anyway, did a reboot and turned off bluetooth and it worked fine. I'd try testing it with just one active connection, then add more (bluetooth/streaming etc) to see if thats your problem.
A reboot took care of it. Not sure what it was.

After a certain amount of time, or opening a certain app, the phone will develop this annoying speaker pop on some screen clicks. I haven't figured out what causes it yet but it happens even when the phone is set to "total silence". A reboot always fixes it. I had my screen clicks enabled but have turned them off and rebooted and everything is fine now. If I figure out which app or circumstances cause it, I will post the fix.
I'm having the same issue. Happens during app launch for pretty much all my apps.

Reboot fixes it temporarily. If you notice it happens after the speaker goes dormant. If the speaker is making continual sound it won't do it. Once to goes to make its first sound after sitting, it pops. Even does it on silent. Don't know what is triggering it yet.
Supposedly someone has done a FDR and no longer has the issue.

I will let others try that first because it takes a couple hours to get everything back to the way I like it without root.
I have not experienced any kind of "pop" from my speaker at all...

The pop has not returned today and the only thing I did different is not hook up the mod. It may be that.

Well that really wouldn't say much because a reboot fixes it every time by itself. Where is the audio effects setting?
I started noticing this in the Twitter app.

I've noticed this as well. When scrolling through my FB or IG feed, any time a video starts playing (even with the sound defaulted to off), I hear a tiny lil speaker pop. It doesn't particularly bother me all that much, but I definitely noticed it.
I was thinking about it the other day and noticed it sounds a bit like a static pop. Kinda like when you plug a guitar into an amp when it's on. Might be some sort of initiation for the speaker. As long as it doesn't affect anything else or causes damage, I'm not too bothered by it. Especially hearing that it's as widespread it is.
hey guys ive figured out what is causing it but the solution might be some sort of software patch.
its the act of connecting to a BT device and then streaming audio like XM/Google music ect. once you disconnect the pop/snap sound appears on all things that activate the speaker. the twitter pull down is the best thing to test this with but it happens on all sounds from the first time you play a song/video to changing a ring tone ect.
here is a video of the sound. ive tried it on both my cars BT, a bose standalone BT speaker, and even and old FM transmitter and all the BT devices cause the pop once they are disconnected.
the reason why its happening is a little over my head but I was thinking something with DRM possibly?
another thing i discovered is it does not happen on the non Force regular Moto Z. I tested the exact same scenarios on it and it does no speaker pop
I was going to return my phone for another but this thread and a few others makes me think its a full on bug with the Force not a bad phone out of the box
ive tried a simple network reset clearing BT but that didnt work. before I try any luck with a factory reset or is it a waste of time?
Looks like this has been posted on the Moto forums https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Moto-Z-Force/Speaker-issue/td-p/3382728

I have confirmed today that it definitely is not "mod" related. I haven't had my JBL hooked up in 48 hours and there has been no pop. I drove to work today listening to music through my truck speakers using bluetooth. Pop is back. @MCN1SMO was right, it is bluetooth related. The only way out is to reboot. LAME.
Just my two cents on the topic, I am not having this issue, however, I do use bluetooth daily, my phone has been on continuously for almost two weeks now. I work outside so use the JBL speaker and have my phone in my shirt pocket listening to music while working. I keep it at about 80% volume for battery life. I am averaging about 6 hours of listening a day.
Also I have my bluetooth connected to the work truck (Ford Sync) to and from work which includes a 4 hour commute home on Fridays and back on Sunday nights to the town I stay in during the week. I have yet to hear any kind of pop from either the JBL or device speakers.
Personally I keep bluetooth off when I am not connected to a device I am not sure if this has any effect or not but it could be worth testing if you are able to replicate the problem. I have been taking off the speaker when not using it as well, but have left it on a few days.
I do also remember reading about an issue with Pandora and bluetooth. I am not sure if Pandora is what you are using or not, if it is try something else and see if the problem persists. I stopped using Pandora a few years back when I was a mechanic and had a bluetooth adapter for a code scanner for cars. If I opened Pandora I would have to reset before the adapter would operate normally.
