iPhone 5, Jailbroken iOS 8.1.2
Tried Tetherme, but that only shares my data connection. MyWi probably works, but I can't afford it.

Wi-Fi tether Infrastructure instead of Ad-Hoc?

Hi,
I have been trying to find a way to enable Wi-Fi tethering from my G1 to my PSP. I have tethered to my Xbox no problem but the PSP cannot see the hotspot when tethering is enabled.
I have learnt that this is because the PSP only uses infrastructure mode for Wi-Fi connections, and Ad-Hoc (which the G1 uses) is only used to connect to other PSP's.
Unfortunatley I don't know too much about the nuts and bolts of Wi-Fi networks so this might not even be possible, but can the G1 run as a Wi-Fi tether in infrastructure mode? If not, why not? im genuinley interested in learning more about this and software development in general.
I imagine the demand for a program to enable this would be pretty high, to be able to have full wi-fi access on your portable gaming systems, no matter where you are would be fantastic. When i had previously asked on another forum about using the G1 to tether my Xbox I was told the connection would be too slow for gaming, that is nonsense, so please don't let that put you off.
Many thanks, and looking forward to your feedback and opinions.

Very true bro, 2mbps is nice and stable for online gaming, i used to do it with my PS3 2 years ago.. I know abit about wifi from long ago, its highly possible if the wifi hardware on the device which will send out a infrastructure ssid is like a routers wifi hardware, the trouble is, i'm sure mobile vendors don't want to let out harware info for software makers to make such software or else other standalone wifi portable devices will decrease in price and mobile phones with wifi would be very open to security attacks and fast to considering wifi speeds, also theres other technical glitches that could make it hard to creat a stable application being that not all mobile networks offer proper subnet masks or dns addresses, the list goes on........!!!!

Puzzling wireless tether issue

Hey all,
My ultimate goal is to take my motorola droid, and connect it wirelessly to my nexus one using wireless tether. I dont have verizon so it'd be sweet to piggy off of my nexus and have virtually two phones.
My problem is my motorola droid, nor my gf's stock evo can see the wireless network I create in wireless tether. However, laptops and both of my roomates iphones can see it.
I also created a wireless network on my droid but then my nexus one cant see that one. Is there a problem connecting two android phones together over wifi? what am I doing wrong that other phones can see it, but not android phones..
Other ways to tether?
Thanks!
The network you're creating is Ad Hoc network, which is different from Access Point network that is provided by WiFi routers. Phones might not be set for recognizing and connecting to such network, at least it looks so from your description.
Understanding that, it leads to another point in my question. Why can iPhones connect to those wireless access points that my android phones create?
It doesn't make sense that you cant connect android to android. There must be a driver or something that I'm missing or some other app I may need to install.
Any other ideas?
Googled some, found official Ad Hoc request thread:

Over 2 years now. There is a way to enable it, but I guess it didn't find its way into custom ROMs yet.

This is the most startling thing to discover about my phone... How can the iPhone trump me on this one and do ad-hoc
Android WiFiTether lets you do tethering over bluetooth as well. Would it be possible to take one android phone with the internet, pair them by bluetooth, and share that way?

Wifi Tether use other HTC phones

Hello, I have a question concerning using wifi tether on other phones such as the G1 while I am using a rooted slide. My problem is it is not showing up on my G1 . It does show up on my nephew's Ipod, but not on my G1. Is there anything that I could do or that any one else is doing to make it work for them? I appreciate the help. Thanks in advance
Android devices can not connect to Adhoc devices, only full access points. wifi tether can only produce an adhoc connection, which is why other devices can connect to it but not other android phones.
Ok, thanks for your help.

[Q] Streak 7 wifi + iPhone Tethering

Has anybody been able to connect their Streak 7 wifi to an iPhone hotspot using native tethering?
I have tried multiple Streak 7s running stock 2.2.2 and HD7, multiple iPhones running 4.3.4 and iOS5 Beta. I have tried both bluetooth and wifi. So far I have had no luck. Bluetooth connects and even says that the iPhone is being used for data, yet apps can not access the internet. It sees the wifi infrastructure hotspot but fails to authenticate.
Basically the device has been useless for me when I am not at home.
So, am I missing something, or do the Streak and iPhone just not get along?
Do GSM iphone 4's have wifi tethering? I thought that was only in iOS 4.2.x that the CDMA iphone uses. I dont believe it was in 4.3 and i havnt been following the 5.0 betas very closely
The normal tethering available is bluetooth and USB, neither of which android support (as the iphone requires a custom driver for usb tethering)
Yes, the iPhone 4 GSM does provide wifi infrastructure tethering. It was added earlier this year in 4.3.
Also Honeycomb 3.2 appears to support the Bluetooth profile for Internet Access provided by the iPhone. It even explicitly states "Connected to device for Internet access". Everything connects fine, however data is not actually working.
I've done it with my LG Optimus V and it works perfectly.
It works with nearly every rom released thus far. Iphone must have TetherMe installed. Then mobile hotspot will be enabled by default. It does not matter whether its gsm nor wifi. Firmware for hotspot 4.3.x and better. Via blutooth anything under that.w
Thanks ariveraiv. The iPhones (3GS and 4) that I have tried are not JB but have tethering plans. IIRC Tether Me just bypasses the carrier checks and enables native tethering.
The Streak 7s see the iPhones in both wifi and Bluetooth. Wifi attempts to connect but is never successful. Bluetooth appears to be successful on HD7, but data does not work.
If I had to guess: wifi is failing to authenticate the WPA password and Bluetooth may just be having an issue with the profile from the hacked xoom ROM (the stock Froyo ROM does not appear to have an Internet Data BT profile).
BTW ariveraiv - Which ROM are you using on your Streak7?

Is it an ad hoc WiFi hotspot? If so, the Streak will not natively be able to connect to that (though there is a way to make it happen).

No, it's infrastructure.
I am familiar with the wpa_supplicant fix, but that isn't the issue. ad-hocs wouldn't even show up in a wifi scan. I can see the hotspot and the iPhone shows the Streak connecting, but the connection fails after a few seconds.
What's the key to getting a Droid to broadcast a hot spot that the Streak will connect to?
so if i buy a wifi only streak 7 i wont be able to use my iphone to connect to the internet and such? i went into a t-mob store to look at the streak 7 and just buying it outright, the sales guy said it would connect fine? was his answer incorrect? or is it that it has the 4g from t-mob?
sorry for the newb question but i'm new to the droid world as i've been an iphone/mac guy

All I can say is that I have not been able to. No others have commented on similar problems.
I use my pdanet all day on my iphone4 to tether my tablet. In order for this to work, YOU MUST fix your wpa supplicant on your streak. Use the supplicant from the xoom. It works.

The OG Droid only broadcasts in ad hoc mode. You need the updated WPA_Supplicant for the Streak in order for it to connect (Android issue; they purposely made it so you can't connect to ad hoc out of the box). You need to be rooted to do this. Go here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=970219&highlight=ad+hoc+wifi
If you have WiFi Tether for your Droid (also has to be rooted), you'll be good to go after using the above tweak.

[Q] Vtok: Poor Network Connection

Hi,
I wonder if anyone has problem with Vtok. I have Vtok on DS7 root and Iphone 4 jailbreak. When I tried to video chat between the 2 devices under the same roof, in the same room, i keep getting "Poor Network Connection". I've never able connect the devices. I have 3Mb DSL internet. Is there a compatibility issue between android and apple device?
