[Q] Building a website

I am looking for a good source on how to begin building/designing a website for my fraternity. I figured I would ask xda because many of you are quite technologically skilled. Any help I would greatly appreciate. Thank you for all of your input.
http://lifehacker.com/#!5753625/basics-of-photoshop-designing-a-website
is a decent guide to designing a website in photoshop. After you go through that, you'll want to learn how to slice up the design. From there, grab dreamweaver and mess around with it. Use dreamweaver and tables to put the sliced images into a website.
What type of site do you want to make?
I agree with naxir in that the first step is trying to design a website in photoshop. However, once you have a working mockup, you can either: 1) make it yourself or 2) hire someone else to do it.
Personally, I don't like putting time into coding a website and would prefer paying someone else money to do so. I'm sure there would be some students who would work on your site for free/cheap to help build up any portfolio they need.
A little more info on what you want in that website. Just some pages with info, pictures, a contact form... Or a complete database with all members and such?
I am building it with a database in mind for currently active members of the fraternity. I just want it to have a few pages, for example, a page about us, current members, a calendar page, and a page with picture gallery. Just a basic website. No flashy things, nothing extreme, just an informative website.
All you need is notepad.exe
I loved this site WAY back in the day as a resource when I couldn't figure out how to do something. This has everything from starting HTML to advanced scripting.

A project im working on!

Mod Edit: We do not allow advertising of external sites, especially paid, on XDA. Closed thread.
I'm really tired of craigslist being over-run with spam ads.
So i'm trying out my own project for classifieds over all forums!
pretty much it's craigslist for electronics, it's free to post up to 30 day ads, 60 day ads are $5.00
If you provide a service it's $5.00 to post.
If you're a forum user, please use the coupon code "JL14" for %5 off everything if you want 60 day ads.
please do NOT spam, as it will be heavily monitored, i'm looking for admins
Please inquire about it in this post, also if you want more carriers, or categories added please let me know here as well.
Check out what I have so far
I AM NOT doing this for money, it's my love for electronics, and buying/selling them!
This may be my first post so far, but I have some advice, as a web developer. Not bashing your coding or anything here, but users like a more modern look. A good mixture of CSS and jQuery can make it pleasing to the eye.
...also, it says 2002 - 2006 on the bottom. o.o
Fixed, and do you have any suggestions to make it more "modern"?
Well, on my sites, my friend is in charge of the layouts, and his works have progressively become more modern, in terms of less pointy edges (much like the table and div's in XDA.)
Soft, matching colors, but don't overdo it.
Perhaps a soft background, nothing too flashy. Plain color, or white even. Black if it matches.
I can't offer you design advise, but I agree with Diceroll -- people judge quickly (and harshly) on appearance. Even if your website is 100% functional, people will be turned off by a very basic appearance. Good luck with your endeavor though!

Click to collapse
That's correct, the hypocrisy of site viewers is never underestimated.
Personally, I suck at making layouts and such, but my sites functions are probably better than the competition. I also lack advertisement skills and resources. (but that's besides the point...)
Try googling CSS3 Generators, and CSS3 makers, etc.
You can easily design nice looking layouts using those types of things. You just need to know how to incorporate them well.
Yeah, i'm working on it now, just made some changes, etc.
I'm doing free banners right now, so if you guys want to be bannered, let me know!
Appreciate your advice.

Writers and content creators wanted!

Hi guys, I recent made a website (www.Peccassi.com) and am now looking for some more content creators and article writers. I already have a hand full of people but some more would be great! Peccassi covers World Affairs, Music, Music culture, Motors, Technology and Technology culture. I’m not looking for a News site as such. There’s no gap in the market for that. I’m looking for opinions. Not insulting, not being byist, but giving your opinion about matters in a informative but entertaining and appealing way. However, information still has to be reliable. That’s important. I'm quite serious about this site. I do want it to be a thing. It'd be cool if some people would give me a hand and hopefully we can build something awesome.
Anyone interested? Email me - [email protected]
Thanks guys
Archie.

Great Place to Order Seafood

So I've been working for this great company called Sizzlefish for the past year. They offer a wide selection of delicous seafood such as salmon, lobster, shrimp, halibut, haddock, scallops, crab, and a whole lot more. I would love for y'all to check out the site and please do not hesitate to suggest improvements, dm me about bugs or even suggest a product. I would strongly recommend any of our smoked salmon selection or the halibut. I've been coming to this site since I was like thirteen or fourteen and I know that there are some very talented developers who stay active on this site with great suggestions for this site. I'm also sure there are some of you out there who would love to know where to find great seafood!
If any of y'all stumble upon something you really like on the site, direct message me on here or request a live chat and I'll probably be able to hook you up with a coupon or something.
