[Q] Stock Lollipop vs custom roms - G 2014 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Motorola Moto firmwares got a lot of praising reviews regarding their great user experience while running on a modest hardware devices, so I wonder how does custom roms compares with the stock lollipop version. Whats the better choice for usability/performance/battery life?

[Q] Moto X Battery Life Comparison 4.4.4 vs 5.1

I'm currently running Krypton v1.4 (Kitkat 4.4.4) and am considering upgrading to ParanoidAndroid 5.1.X (Lollipop 5.1.X), but I'm concerned about differences in battery life. Can anyone shed any light on the subject?
Thanks!
I've never had a ROM with better battery than krypton's 4.4.4 it's definitely my go to KK ROM. But I have been using AICP LP for awhile even though the batter life is not as good its good enough by me and my needs. I consider it a trade off for the "latest and greatest."

[Q] Sense over GPE for battery

I imagine some have researched this well enough, many seem to feel Sense based roms offer the best battery life on the M7. Not too many support the GPE roms for battery life.
Is this the main consensus, it's better to go for a Sense based rom when it comes to prolonging battery life?
I have found in general KK/Sense marginally out perform offical Lollipop roms, particularly GPE. I can appreciate ported roms, ie Sense 7 will probably not be so good for battery life. AOSP not so good as they are not based off official HTC releases.
I am away camping for a few weeks, with little opportunity to charge the phone apart from in the car. Anything that can give me an improvement on battery life will be a help.
I'll be happy with JB, KK or Lollipop.

Best rom for moto x xt1092

Hi guys , i have bought this phone recently ( motorola x 2014 xt1092) so i am new in this section . I'm asking you about custom roms. What is the best custom rom for this version of motorola x ? I'm looking for a rom with good battery life , to get more screen on time. I don't care about perfomance at all because i don't play games. I can get a better battery life with a custom rom or not ?
I'd say stock with root, xposed and n-ify. It's as stable as it gets, and it has the moto features
you can try any rom offering dark UI , looks and performs awesome on amoled display.
Currently I'm on cm 14.1 unofficial , I get approx 5 hrs SOT with wifi on throughout the day and some browsing and youtube.

Doesn't it have Bluetooth pairing issues with your Ford model T?

Does rooting the phone or installing a custom ROM slow it down?

I had an older phone that had this problem. After I rooted it, it became slower and stuttered. Does rooting the Moto G5s Plus or installing a custom ROM have any impact on the performance?
I guess it depends on the ROM, kernel and settings. For example I have a gs2 running 4.4.4 custom rom that's more stable and with better performance than the stock gingerbread with which came out (also Samsung didn't update it to 4.4.4 because the hardware weren't enough to run 4.4.4), so draw your conclusion

STOCK ROM vs CUSTOM ROM, everyone has different opinions, no one can say what will you like and what you should install. It's your choice for what to do.
If you do install stuff, experience them and decide what is better for you..
For STOCK,
It's developed by Lenovo/Moto officials and by TEAM, the reason why it's STOCK, means it will be most stable.
Many one prefer to use stock rom with root and few additional tweaks like custom kernel / deodexed / debloated. And doing such thing does not affects performance but removing unnecessary apps and stoping them to run in background helps in smooth and better battery performance.
There is XPOSED FRAMEWORK, which modifies device at large level, installing and modification to system such thing can only affects device performance in respective manner of how you use it...
For CUSTOM,
It's developed by TEAM, but maintained by individual device maintainers (which is less in number). That's reason custom roms are buggy at starting, but as time passes, many improvements are made and we will have best custom experience in our device.
Currently i am using AOSP-Extended and it's stable enough for me to use daily..
As i said in first line, everyone thinks different, and this is my thoughts...

I AM using pixel experience with custom Kernel and works better than Stock rom
Related question, not really about slowing down though:
Anyone noticed a worse quality in the picture taken after unlocking their bootloader and using custom ROMs and kernels ?
I'm asking this cause Sony tends to have a weird policy that nice "goodies" are disabled when the bootloader is unlocked (X-Reality not working anymore, picture quality much worse especially in low light conditions/proprietary picture processing algorithm removed, DSEE HX (?) not working anymore and others)
Many thanks in advance

I can see Sony doing that - they have no sense of humor!
But considering stock camera app is simply shyte, anything is better. Google camera does a far better job - under good conditions. Unfortunately those are the only conditions this sensor will take a decent pic in. The usual for a low end sensor/lens setup - decent light decent pics - bad light bad pics. Nothing will change that.

Is it worth flashing a custom rom for performance/battery life gains?

Hi,
I have a 2.5 year old mi a2 and plan to keep it for 6-12 months more. I never installed am custom rom(android one feels pretty decent), But with the battery life and performance deteriorating I am wondering if it is worth it to install a custom rom to improve these areas.
Are android 10 roms as stable and compatible as stock android? If so which ones?
I really appreciate your help!
bump?

Of course they are better than stock. These days you can find custom roms like Awaken that are even encrypted and on the latest Android 11.
Used and tried Awaken, Fluid, Shapeshift, Derp Fest, all good. Depends only which one you like more.
