[Q] Most stable custom ROM - Nexus 6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Folks
Which one is the most stable custom ROM available for nexus 6? Or is it that if I'm looking for stability, I should stick with the stock ROM?
Also, once the phone is rooted, is it true I cannot accept OTA updates from google?
Thx

It's true you can't accept ota with root. For the most stable rom I can't speak much on that. I've been using sinless because it's based off stock and it's very stable. I know cleanrom is also stable since I've read through that whole thread. Maybe watch the review videos of roms. I can't remember what section that's in but he does a great job showing all the features and stability of each one. Good luck.
Edit. Here is the review thread.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2992769

Another rom reviewer gave chroma (my rom) a 10/10 for stability.
Take it how you see it, I personally test my builds for stability and don't push releases unless I'm happy with it. Give it a try, you won't be disappointed. I'm very active in the thread to the user's of the rom.

This is a nexus phone so all ROMs are stable unless someone did a really crappy job. Only bad coding causes instability because unlike OEM phones, everything is available to the community so no dirty hacks required.

do you know which of the ROM's have a blocking mode for calls at night? I had one running on my s4 but can't remember the name of the ROM. With blocking mode, the calls directly went to voicemail which showed the caller my phone was just off. If I use llama, the phone still keeps ringing for the caller which may lead them to think I'm ignoring them
Thx

I use Root Call Blocker (RCB). You can choose which method of call rejection you want for individual contacts or all calls. One reason to love Nexus devices. No extra features you may or may not want. I just add what I need as I go.

Any ROM that allows you to use both the 4g and wifi radios to do heavy downloads?
Thx

Novel idea, try reading the ROM threads. Sometimes you should do your own legwork, otherwise this thread will drag on Forever with all these "any rom with..." Questions

[Q]Most Stable ROM for GrooveIP

Hi Guys,
bought 2nd HD2 for the sole purpose of using TMobile plan unlimited Data with 100mins.
Up till now ive change 4 Roms and always having problem with GrooveIP
Now im using MIUI based ROM, and still facing some..although not as much as any ROM with CM based.
What I experience:
-When receiving calls, i notice groove ip UI will come up first, and then stock phone ui will come 2nd. Most of the times when i pick up the call..no sound. When there is no sound...the only solution is to reboot the phone
My question is:
is it me not knowing how to set it up properly or Some of you have grooveip working flawlessly with a specific ROM.
Any advice would be much much apprciated. Thanks.

Verizon Specific CloudyG3 Rom Issues/Fixes

I recently took the plunge and updated to Cloudyfa's CloudyG3 2.0+ Rom and it is super awesome. There is a HUGE General Discussion thread here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=56644031
Here is the main Rom thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2783192
It is for all variants but it is a port of the GSM G3 rom. So some things aren't 100% on our VS980 roms. Just to be certain, everything is working for me but it takes a few tweaks, hence the point of this thread.
Here are the main issues off the top of my head:
Cellular doesn't work out of the box
You have to manually change it to LTE/CDMA. It took a few times to get this to work. I also use an app from the Play Store called "TellInfo" which lets you select "LTE/CDMA/EvDo/GSM/WCDMA" (which seems to work best for me). You also have to go into Settings > Tethering & Networks > Mobile Networks and select "Data Enabled" and "Data Roaming". The Network mode that seems to work best is "Global" mode.
I would advise that you check with your data plans to make sure you aren't being charged a crazy amount of money to roam on other networks. At this point (I travel), I haven't racked up any additional charges.
MMS doesn't work with the stock Messaging App
This requires downloading Textra or Hangouts for SMS/MMS handling. I like Textra.
Verizon Visual Voicemail doesn't work
I get a really weird text message when I get a voicemail. I assume this is trying to communicate to the Verizon Voicemail app. It doesn't work. I have to resort in manually checking voicemail the old fashion way. I am looking for better options
Other random facts
The keyboard no longer has arrow keys in the nav bar when typing. I've read the G3 rom keyboard is supposed to let you swipe the spacebar for left/right movement... but it doesn't work nor do I see any options.
WiFi File Sharing is gone from the G2. The G3 took this feature out, which is really really sad. A good alternative is "Samba Filesharing". Same thing except can't be launched from the Notification Shade
Otherwise, the rom is beautiful and pretty. The Xposed G3 Tweaksbox has tons of options for some really neat features. Everything else works the same/better then stock G2 software. I don't know if I could go back to the stock G2 rom after using this for a few weeks. Outside of the small issues listed above (SMS/MMS being the only semi-big one) it works and looks so good that it is a keeper.
Any additional tips and tricks to making the CloudyG3 rom work better on our VS980 Verizon LG G2s, please share!

Although I appreciate the time you spent working this up for people, its in the wrong section.
This really should be in the Verizon specific General section (maybe q&a?)
Just to add on a bit. Any time I flash one of his ports, I just change the build prop.
I use ROM toolbox pro, light would work, but the app you really need (that's built into it) is root explorer.
I change the tele device to 10, country to US (make sure its caps) and carrier to vzw, and I never have an issue with LTE sticking or anything of the sort.
Obviously you would change the country if you don't live in the US.
I haven't done any of these changes and if seems fine...

Thats weird I've been running this rom on my vs980 for a few weeks now. Everything worked perfect for me without having to mess with any settings at all. Also messaging worked without a hitch. Only thing i noticed while driving was the signal would say roaming sometimes. A reboot would correct this issue. Think it has something to do with the 3g to 4g hand off.

If it is roaming that means you're in a 3g area
I tried this for awhile on more than one occasion and every time, my sms would eventually take hours or days to receive. It was maddening. Did not matter what app I used, fixed apn settings, tried everything. It would work for a day or two then messaging totally fell apart.

Its cosmetic.
The reason it does it, is because the ROMs he builds are based off of international builds. So they don't cater to vs/ls980 as they use cdma
Edit: Same reason why the stock messengers won't send mms
---------- Post added at 07:14 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:05 PM ----------
Also, I just flashed the new cloudyg3 2.1, (I think?) and it looks like all the normal changes I make to the build prop are already done.
Country and tele device number.
I am having MTP issue. It refuses to go into MTP mode.
Does anyone know how to fix this?
I put build.prop fix in and it did not make any difference.
Otherwise, it appear to be pretty good. But battery drain seem a bit higher than stock.

Great to hear..I'll note that the G3 tweaksbox has an option to kill the roaming icon and then you can use the Verizon icons..perfect.
Since flashing this last night I've had no troubles. GPS, LTE, MTP, everything is working...

anyone solve this? Same problem for me with any custom rom.
Does anyone know how to get the automatic login working for the my verizon mobile app? I tried inatalling the verizon login from the play store and that didnt work, so I tried restoring a backup of the app from stock and that didnt work. I converted both to system apps and that didnt work either! ? Anyone please help its important that i get this working.

I gave up on VVM a while ago. Had to call Verizon and have them deactivate it. Now I just get a regular notification when I have a VM.
The only good alternative to actual VVM I've found is Google voice.
How does CloudyG3 perform compared to an AOSP rom on our G2? I'm running AICP right now and love the stock feel, but have some issues like GPS. Is the G3 UI that much better than AOSP?
com.android.phone keeps crashing on me.. basically making the phone useless on this rom. Anyone else have this issue? If so.. any luck fixing it?

Well my intention was to put it in the VS980 General Section. Im not sure if it got moved or where it currently is, as I am on mobile.
I am running 2.0 and heard 2.1 has the phone force close that prevents usage. It appears some people experience this while others dont. Could depend on previous rom.
Im in no rush to update. I'll check out the build prop changes. I have root explorer. Although I thought that this was the purpose of the aroma installer.
I have selected the Verizon icon set in G3 Tweaksbox but still see the occasional Roaming icon. Not a big deal. Still works fine.

I had the same exact issue so I was forced to downgrade to 2.0, and the dev didn't really seem to know how to fix it, although 2.0 is truly great on the VS980. Would be great to be able to run 2.1, although I was able to get it to work as soon as I changed it from global mode to any other mode that started to crash.

2.1 worked fine for me no issue for two days. You either didn't clean flash, or did something wrong.

You tell me. It works fine.
You restoring system apps and or data?
Using xposed modules?
Flashing a different kernel?
Removing system apps?
Flashing any mods such as status bar with the ROM?
You check md5?
Using twrp 2.8.1?

[Q] Custom ROM and WiFi calling

Is the WiFi calling feature part of TouchWiz? If not, is there any way to extract it and use it with AOSP ROM? I REALLY want to run some of the killer Lollipop ROMS, but I need the WiFi feature. Since it is a TMo exclusive, it would seem that the framework for it could be extracted, but then again, I have ZERO experience in attempting something like that.
nope, cant do it at this point

Easy use hangouts. Let's you make wifi calls on any ROM with any carrier. I use it all the time. It works great. It also eliminates the need to have a bunch of minutes.
Sent from my SM-N910T using XDA Free mobile app
is there any payment involved using hangouts to make calls, or are they completely free anywhere?
thanks!
I'm actually more interested in texts over WiFi without changing my contact number to the umpteen million people. I bet I average about 6 minutes in calls, LOL.

[Q] Best ROM for Verizon

Guys
Which ROM below has the most stable connection to Verizon and also supports simultaneous voice & data?

It's all user preference. The most stable obviously is going to be a stock based rom like clean rom. If you want more tweaking options I like Chroma or Terminus(Both seem to be very stable). All those roms work with lte voice/data.
As long as you don't change your radio you should be good to go.
Sent from my Benzo'd Google N6 on VZ
And use Verizon messages if you don't want to worry about MMS and Group messaging working properly. Plus you can text over WiFi.
Lightrom is nice, plus it has app opps. Aosip seems very stable as well, and of course you can never go wrong with Cleanrom.
Right now I'm using Meanpop and I like it.

I'm coming from Shamu where the author simply disappeared. I'll do a wipe clean but after installing chroma, is it okay to do a titanium restore of all apps and data or would that cause performance issues? Sort of a hassle to install every app from scratch
Thx

With user apps, yes. However it is always recommended to not restore system apps when switching ROMs.
one more - with shamu, i had a problem over the last week whenever i rebooted my phone or moved from wifi back to lte data and the phone would not be able to get onto the data or voice network. It'll simply say cellular network not available.
will moving rom's help this issue or do I need to update radios? So far, i'm using the radios that came with the phone from play store
Thx

i placed all the 4 files to install and it's been 30 mins but i still see the green circle and octagon on my screen. How long does the process usually take?
thx
CleanROM seems to fit what you want, although I am mostly testing mine out.

[ROM][5.1.1][UNOFFICIAL] AICP v10.0 for m7spr [10.3.2015]

UNOFFICIAL AICP for the Sprint HTC One
Since @superfes is no longer using this phone, I figured I would post some unofficial builds of AICP (Android Ice Cold Project). The previous thread is intended for closure, so we can use this one. To be clear, I'm only compiling this ROM and will not be troubleshooting specific issues. I will do my best to troubleshoot, but no guarantees. Any help on this front is appreciated - I'm new to this and am interested in continuing to learn.
I'm planning on putting together a build once every week or two for personal use and will share that with you guys.
Obligatory disclaimer: I am not responsible for any trouble you may run into with flashing or otherwise using this ROM. Just because it is working well for me does not guarantee that you will have the same experience.
For those of you wondering what AICP is: http://aicp-rom.com

Build notes
10/3/2015
- Fresh build from 10/3
- Tested service / data when moving and no issues
- Remember that I am not troubleshooting specific issues. I'm not a developer. If you wish to post a logcat or anything like that though, feel free and I will take a look but not necessarily be able to provide a solution
- Yes, the digital roaming display is still there. In fact, when you see digital roaming, this is a sign that you are in service. 'Sprint' shows up when you are roaming so it is backwards.
9/27/2015:
- Didn't make clobber so build that hasn't been updated since 9/19 does not show an update (i.e. build will say 9/19 in many places since that was my last full repo sync). For future builds I will do this but didn't feel like waiting that many hours today
- Cherry-picked tdhite's commit from PAC ROM: http://review.pac-rom.com/#/c/13403/
------This has fixed the com.android.phone crashing problem + service being dropped
------ Usable as a daily driver again!
- From a full day on this ROM it's running smoothly and without errors
- 'Digital Roaming' display-only issue persists (been there for a long time now - no surprises here), and it is not indicative of actually roaming. Go into settings / about / sim status to definitively determine what your service status is.

I couldn't get a solid connection. It was roaming and when I toggled the network type to global, I lost connectivity. I toggled back to CDMA/LTE but still no connection. I toggled Airplane mode. Still no go. I then changed it to Global and got a connection finally, but it was still roaming.
I hope this helps.

Same issue I've noticed everywhere, no proximity sensor feedback when in dialer!
I'm not pushing the power button every time I get called or I make a call. Only reason I'm still glued to 4.4.4.
Tjis is my 3rd m7 on kk and lp Ota, all 3 on both revisions, same issue.

The digital roaming issue is cosmetic - that one's to be expected (see build notes; you are probably not roaming). As for the connectivity drop, I haven't run into that. If that's happening infrequently and you can deal with the display issue, this ROM should be otherwise fine for service-related actions (calls/texts) in my experience over the last couple of days.

Yes, that one is pretty annoying. I have also noticed it on AOSP LP ROMs including this one and just deal with it. Sorry to hear that's holding you back. If there's a fix out there and I come across it, I'll be sure post about it and add to the ROM if applicable.

First of all, great ROM! Have used AICP on my Nexus 4 and my TF300T in the past and it's always been a nice, stable ROM. Just got one question about non-market apps. I've been unable to install any, though I do have the option enabled in the Security menu. From what I've been able to tell, I can start the install of non-market apks with no problem but then the install screen closes by itself and once or twice, I've seen a pop-up that says something about Anti-piracy software activated. Is there any way around this?
So I need Gapps with this ROM?
How about MM?
Any aicp work?

Just wanted to stop in and say thank you for uploading this to the site. I have had a hard time finding a good daily driver and this is perfect for my needs.
If you are still building weekly for your own personal use i would greatly appreciate you uploading here as well.
Also I like the inclusion of more cpu governors such as smartmax_eps, has been great for pokemon go
