[Q] How Do I Know if It is Quick Charging? - One (M8) Accessories

Plug in the quick charge 2.0 charger, there is no sign if it is in quick charging or just normal charging? Is there any sign on the phone to show it is quick charging?

Unless something is built into the charger you don't. The Tenergy has an LED the is blue when charging a non-QC 2.0 device and turns green when a QC 2.0 device is charging. Other than something like that all you can do is look at a battery monitor app and check how fast the charge is.

Check the current reading in GSAM.

You don't. But you notice that it charges from anything <=75% to 80%+- quicker then a normal charger. Reverts to slower charge rate from 80%-100%.
Only true way of knowing is to purchase an inline amp\volt meter. I bought one off eBay for couple quid. It plugs in to USB socket and you plug the charging cable in to it.

First of all, the phone will heat up a fair bit while charging. Secondly, you can connect to your phone with ADB over WiFi (with help of an app from Play Store), grab logcat and look for messages from the 'quickcharge' service. If QC is working, they will say that the phone has successfully negotiated 9V charging current with the charger.

You can just time it or something like that...

Where is this current reading in GSAM (screenshot)? I have the app (pro version/add on for rooted), and while it appears that one of my chargers is 2.0 compliant (based on rate of change on a graph)...I can't find where it shows the current/voltage option/graph mentioned above.
TIA.

Just post a screenshot GSAM whilst it's charging.

Charger specs

I'm looking for an extra charger for my nc. What I need to know is what is the mah output of the stock changer so I can get one that had the same rating. Our can someone link me to a cheap stock charger.
The output is 5volts / 1.9 Amperes.
Edit, it is written on the charger btw, you could probably have checked that your self .
Where can I get a charger with the same specs? I don't want to spend $20 but if I have to I will just buy another stock one.
I have a 5v 700mah charger that I bought for my phone. Will that work or is the rating to low?
That will work, it just wont charge as fast...

FYI: I tried using my HTC usb charger with the nook usb cable and it will not charge. The charging light flickers.
Thats what I'm worried about
There is this cable from boxwave with a dongle off the end that you are supposed to use to charge from USB chargers. Why would anyone need this?

It is charging, just not as fast and the device doesn't notify you of it. HTC usb wall plug chargers are usually 5volts and 1amp, the nook requires 1.9 amps to charge properly.
/mr
There are no spec listed for that charger so it could be a 700mah or it could be a 1.9a charger.
How many of you guys recommending underpowered chargers actually have any electronics background?
The nook charges when connected to a usb socket on a computer, which provides 500ma as a high power device. So your 1000ma charger is twice as good as using a computer.
In order to get 1900 ma, the nook isn't using stock usb stuff in the charger... but normal usb works just fine because, well, the standard requires it to...
4000 mAh battery should charge fully in 2 hours on the nook charger, 4 hours on the htc charger, or 8 hours on a computer...

Good to note that there's a bug on the NC that makes it appear that it's not charging, when connected via USB connection, but it really does charge.
regular micro usb chargers from cell phones will charge the nook even when it says it's not charging.

The NC will charge from my Droid's power adaptor even though it does not show it to be working. It will take a lot longer to charge with a standard 0.5A USB power adaptor.
In theory, it should take about 4 times as long to charge from standard USB instead of the B&N charger.

It does work. It's just charging slow so you can't necessarily tell. Also. There will be no indicators on the nook to show that it is charging but i'm pretty sure it is. Leave it plugged in overnight and see.

I own one and can confirm it works perfectly.

[Q] Can nook color plug adapter all time ?

Laptop have smart battery manager to change a/c (when plug in power) and battery when haven't power, so haven't been charged and discharged => not low level . But have nook color smart battery manager ?
Nook color can use 8 hours , if i use more, I will charge it twice a day , I want plug it in power when I am at home
If you use the supplied cable and charger, it will allow fast charging and then automatically stop charging when it is full so you won't damage the battery.
If you use a different charger or cable, it will charge much slower.
Mine won't charge with another cable and plug besides the one it came with. Phone can't charge with NC plug and cable. Is it supposed to to be able to charge with a lower power adapter like the one for my phone?

Apparently you have to shut the Nook down for it to charge with a regular USB cable. That's because a regular cable won't supply enough power to charge the device while it is running. The fact that it will charge at all under these circumstances is an unadvertised feature.

The supplied charger is 1.9 amp. A regular charger is 1 amp. A phone car charger is. 5 amp. That's why if you use the NC charger it's faster.

I want this information in barnesandnoble.com , not fast or slow
the book that comes with the nook states that when the light turns green that it is fully charged and now supplying power to the nook and not the battery (so your battery does not discharge and you can use your nook still), i'm not sure how much more proof you want than this.
As for other chargers, if you get the micro USB Type B (I believe is what it's called), it will charge fast still and SHOULD have auto shut off (since that's built into the nook).

USB fast charging (kernel)

Some kernels come with USB fast charging as an option that you can toggle. If you use this, does it shorten the battery health long-term ? I'm not referring to turbo chargers (aftermarket), this is just the kernel setting. I recall reading this awhile ago, but I was curious myself.

all it does is increase the voltage coming in when charging via a USB. USB charging voltage is about a quarter/third that of a wall charger. no, no negative affects.
Not at all, even with USB fast charge on it will draw less power than if it were plugged in a regular wall charger or the turbo charger. There's an app called Ampere you can use to monitor how much power the phone draws while charging (or even discharging) you can use it to see the differences between regular usb, fast charge usb, turbo charge, etc.
Ok, that's good to know. Now I can re-toggle the feature and not worry.:good:
What about if it is toggled on and you put it on a regular charger ? Is it still fine ?

if its on and you charge it in a wall outlet, nothing will happen. it will only work on a real USB connection.
Motorola put in support for the Qualcomm rapid charge in the nexus 6.
Read up:
https://www.qualcomm.com/products/snapdragon/quick-charge
It allows the battery to charge at a higher voltage with USB connections and Qualcomm certified rapid chargers AND a compatible cable. The nexus 6 can still recharge with standard chargers and cables, just at a slower rate regardless of kernel support.
To answer the damage questions: Moto says no damage to the battery as long as certified chargers are used.
Can't you use any standard usb charging cable? (Assuming it's not really long or poor quality)

How do I tell if I'm quick charging? Is there an app?

I have my original Nexus 6 charger that supports the Qualcomm Quick Charge 2.0. But I don't have the usb cable any more... or don't know where it is. I heard that you have to have a quick charge compatible cable. I have a TON of cables, and I'd like to try them out on my quick charger, but I'd like to know if quick charge is working at a quick glance. Is there a way?
-Peter
Download Ampere app from Playstore, once you open it, it'll start measuring your charge rate. It'll also tell you if it's turbo charge, you can also tell it's fast charge if you get like 1800-2000+ mAh.
I'm using the cable from my old '12 N7 with my N6 charger... charges to full in about 90 minutes or so (from 10% to 30+% in about 15-20 minutes). I'd say feel your device after about 5-10 minutes of charging... if it's as hot as hot tap water, you're probably quick charging. When I charge with other chargers, it gets warm , but not hot.
thanks guys. i downloaded Ampere late last night. in a nod to both of you, when quick charging, Ampere was showing about 2200mA and when regular charging, it was showing about 650mA. and when quick charging, it was noticeably hotter.
i thought that you were supposed to use special quick charge cables, but i tried a handful of different cables this morning on my N6 quick charger and they all would charge at or above 2000mA. if anyone knows any specific info about cables, i would love to read about it, but otherwise i'm pretty happy that i'm quick charging again.
-Peter
The only specific info regarding cables is to avoid "charge only" types, which are frequently found with Logitech products. Charge only cables have the two center pins disabled, which neuters the quick charge system. In quick charging, power is sent through the data lines (the two center pins) as well as the power lines, which results in a faster charge.
There is no way of telling you have a charge only cable just by looking at it. It has to be plugged in.
Some cables, like the one in this pic have the awg or mm sq size on them.https://goo.gl/photos/5ni5wofvnaBUpot6A
I'm willing to bet the larger wire (24 awg) is carrying the charging current.
More great info, guys thanks a bunch

This statement is wrong, power is never never send over data lines ever anywhere!
QC needs data lines to communicate with the device, because QC3 for example charges with up to 20 V / 2.5 A and if you hit a normal phone with this voltage, it might fry the charging controller.
Actually the charger and the device handshake over the data lines, so the charger knows it's OK to send out that much power (over the power lines).
A non-QC device won't answer to the handshake and therefore the charger will send out the standard 5 V.
@kabinx: After nearly a year I'm not going to press the issue too much because after so long I can't remember the source of my information about the data lines being used for charging, but where did you find your information about quick charge?

Fast charging issue after Emui 9.0.0.189 update

Does fast or quick charge works for anyone?
After updating to .189 my phone stopped fast charging.
Before I charged with my Aukey 3A charger and saw 2 bolts in battery icon. Now it shows only one bolt.
My version is C432.
How about other users?

Yes, I have the same issue. Also, my PC doesn't recognise the phone when connecting with a USB cable.
Edit: I had a faulty USB charging board. Part number is 02351YXN. Fairly easy to replace. You can find it here: https://is.gd/J1hvEM
The solution is to make use of the original supercharge/ fast charge adapter.
Same issue with 2 original chargers with my P10. Was working fine evening before the update to emui 9. Used to charge fully while on Spotify and connected to a Bluetooth speaker. Now at the end of the workout I have less battery than when I started charging. What a joke. Another thing pissing me off is that I keep minimizing the current application while typing on the keyboard. It pisses me off and never happened before...
