Ok, so my kindle's been acting up a looooot, so I tried doing a wipe. First of all when I reboot into recovery when it shows the blue kindle fire logo about 1/3 of the screen has an odd combination of red and white pixels, but then twrp's logo shows up and all's good. Then I went to wipe, I wiped at first cache and dalvik cache, now I did another wipe and wiped system as well. In both cases the first line it showed was "E: TWFunch: : Remove_MTP_Storage unable to locate partition for 0". What does this mean? Either way the wipes continued normally and were successful. Is this something I should worry about?
Also, perhaps I should mention I overclocked my kindle a few days back (on Saturday or Sunday if I remember correctly). I set the processor's max to 1500 for a few hours only (5-7 hours, no more), it ran great but then it seemed to act a little strange and right when I was about to set it back to 1200 it rebooted and was back to 1200 on its own. I'm running the Beanstalk 5.

EDIT: I tried pretty much everything I could think of over the last few hours and the only thing that worked was unrooting, rerooting, flashing radio and dangerspl again, and installing CM5.0.8 again. Since neither my nandroid or bart backup would work (I let them "restore" for about a half hour each). I lost everything so I am in the process of restoring. Everything google backs up pretty well and many of the apps that I use come with a backup option (ADW, my collection, key ring etc) so hopefully there is minimal damage.
I'm still not quite sure how this happened.
Hey everyone, its been a long time since I had to ask for help, however this situation has got me a little stumped.
Some background before we begin....
1) I wanted to rearrange some icons on the homescreen so I did that and then backed up the ADW settings by going into settings>ADW>backup then rebooted
2) I cleaned out some apps that I no longer use by uninstalling them via the settings menu rather than the market method
3) I browsed my sdcard via a file explorer application and deleted some of the left over folders and files from the apps I uninstalled in step 2.
4) After steps 1-3, I opened the official twitter app and was getting constant forcecloses as soon as I opened the app however it appeared to run perfectly normal behind the FC screen.
5) I tried FC and opening twitter a few times and it didn't work so I opened up the terminal app and ran a fix_permissions
6) While the fix_permissions was running, I noticed it got caught in some kind of loop when it reached the market app (com.android.vending etc). The screen just kept repeating the same commands over and over again.
7) To stop the loop, I hit the back or home button (cant remember which) and got back to the home screen. I tried to open several apps and then everything starting to FC. I left the phone for the night and went to sleep.
8) This morning, I rebooted the phone and was stuck at the first splash screen for much longer than usual so I used DroidExplorer to reboot into recovery.
9) In recovery, I toggled the sdcard so that I could have a looksie at the fix_permissions log file to see what was going on. Everything is there up until the com.android.vending part where it was looping.
10) I deleted the log file off the sdcard and just decided it was time to restore a nandroid which is from right after my fresh, wiped install of CM5.0.8 stable from about a week ago.
11) This is the step I am on now....the nandroid didn't go thru and its been about 25 minutes so my assumption is that something is wrong.
My guess at this point is to just wipe and reinstall CM5.0.8 stable?
Any help to fix the problem would be great, but I would also like any insight as to what may have caused this in the first place. Presumably, my interruption of the fix_permissions is mostly to blame for the softbrick, but what about the FC from Twitter that started this whole mess?
Thanks,
DM
Flash the rom again without wiping
Fix permissions
Wipe Dalvik Cache
Fix Permissions
Reboot
Reboot will take a while because of wiping the Dalvik Cache
The ROM flashed fine, then I dropped to terminal and started the fix_permissions and its looping again at step 91 of 121 but the screen is going so fast, that was the only info I was able to get.
Now the screen is blank, lit, but blank. Going to try to get back to recovery and see if I can get access to the fix_permissions log file.
EDIT 1: The fix_permissions file on the sdcard is blank...something is seriously wrong.
When I had rom manager (3.0.0.7) on my first nook, I did a complete backup with it and got boot, system, data, and cache. But on my second nook, when I downloaded it I got 3.0.1.3. When I did a backup with that, all it gave me was boot.
The first nook was on 1.0.1, this one is on 1.1.0, but I don't recall doing any different options at all. What am I missing?
For benefit of the community, the problem was that CMR was giving a "can't mount system" error, which was caused by selecting the wrong rom (for me at least) when flashing the recovery. I needed to reflash and select "Nook Color (old)" instead of "Nook Color" (might be opposite for some).
Key is you have to reboot after flashing recovery and BEFORE you do a backup. If you don't reboot first, you will get in a boot loop. If you get in a boot loop, you have to use CMR to remove the recovery by using the CWR-removal.zip file and then reboot. You can then reflash again.
So i had phiremod installed and it worked ok except wifi was finicky (probably my crappy router), it would work until i installed something from the market, thats when it would freeze for about half an hour. after 2 days of downloading 4 apps, i decided to try something else.. i booted using my clockwork sd, returned everything back to stock and went to just plain root it using nookdevs instructions via autonooter, everything installed all good except that now when it boots, it flashes a couple skateboards on the right side of the screen for about 1/4 seconds ,ill try to take a pic, maybe avideo if you guys need) and then loads the Nook Color nook devs animation and keeps reloading that over and over and over again....
when i went back into clockwork to return it to stock, it installs everyhting correctly (according to the text below) but tells me /cache/... cant be found :\ any tips? im a total noob to this rooting thing and not afraid to admit it i only got the nook to root it and give it to my 4month old son (he loves tablets ive got a video of him messing with google earth on an ipad, he totally loves it [idk if im allowed to post links to youtube videos but if i am, i will post it ] )'
edit: and now that i reverted it back to stock, it gets stuck at the N screen :\
all help is appreciated i want to play with this thing as much as my son does lol, ive got a samsung moment that i'm going to look into rooting next so the nook will have 3g via wifi
just did a wipe data/factory reset using clockworkmod recovery 3.0.0.5 and it gives me:
FORMATTING /data /cahce /sd-ext /sdcard/.android secure...
data wipe complete
E: cant mount cache/recovery/log
e:cant open " "
E: cant mount cache /recovery/last_log
e:cant open " "
:\
I've had the same issue. It is the boot partition being messed up. Check out this link first to restore it http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=914690. If that does not help look here as this one will for sure get you back running again http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=945838
FYI when I had the issue I didn't have luck using the info in the first link I posted I had to do the process in the 2nd link I just posted. Hopefully between the 2 tho will get you back to square one.
thanks, ill defintely give it a try as soon as i get back from work
did the 8 failed boots and reset back to stock 1.1.0 wierd.. didnt work before. mb cuz i formatted system/cache/boot before this time
yeah my guess is the formatting /boot is why it did not work. From my understanding you should NEVER format /boot, only system, data, and cache
As per the title. I have an S4 Active, humming along happily with "activeroot" applied when it first became available. I realized this morning that I never deleted the activeroot app itself, but when long-pressing the icon to get to the uninstall menu, my finger slipped. I really like geohot and his work, a whole lot, but the fact that there isn't at least a confirmation screen before overwriting important system files really grates on me. The instant the tap happened, the screen went black, and became immediately stuck on the AT&T logo at reboot.
If I power the phone up normally, I only see the AT&T logo for as long as I care to stare at it before powering it down. I can reboot into the stock recovery, but because the phone doesn't ask me for the disk-encryption password as in a normal boot, I see the error "Can't mount /data (Invalid argument)". The only non-destructive thing I could do at that menu was to wipe the cache, which obviously did nothing for my bootloader or encrypted disk. I feel pretty sure I haven't lost any data on that encrypted disk yet, and I know I could do a full factory wipe, but I'm hoping I have a better option:
1) Could it possibly be as simple as trying to send "towelroot", the newest root, to the phone via adb and execute it?
2) Without the ability to write to the disk, can I get a log file for further troubleshooting / ideas?
3) Is there a way to decrypt the disk over usb to at least pull over any non-backed-up files before performing a factory wipe?
4) Can I install a different recovery which might give me more or better options?
Thanks for any help you can provide! = )
Hi,
I have an HTC One m7 on T-Mobile, rooted and running Android Revolution 82.0.
I messed up, now I need help to dig myself out of this hole. I do not understand some of this, this could be partly due to my stupidity.
I backed up my system and boot in twrp before i had done any of this.
Last night I wanted to update TWRP. I downloaded "TWRP manager" through the play store, I opened the app and went down to "install twrp" - i installed TWRP 2.8.1.0 through the app, it said flashing successful. Everything was fine. I rebooted my phone into recovery to verify that it had worked. The correct twrp version was displayed at the top. I rebooted my phone into system. After the boot sequence it loaded into the first time run set up manager (by this i mean the thing that comes on when you turn on your phone for the very first time). This shocked me. I went through the procedure to "set up" my phone. All my apps were gone, all settings, everything. It looked as if it were brand new. Even the pre-loaded apps for android revolution were gone. I rebooted back into twrp recovery, went to the file manager and went to the main directory "/". I looked for the folder "/storage" but it wasnt there. I went to go restore my phone to the backups i had made before i tried updating twrp to see if that would help. Nothing changed. after this, I reinstalled the rom through TWRP without wiping anything. All my apps were still gone, all settings were gone, yet all my photos were still there. All of my files for the apps are all there, they are all in the internal storage, all the folders are still in /data , i do not understand what happened. I am also concerned that when I am in recovery and i am in the file manager i cannot see "/storage", as if it is hidden from the recovery file manager. Also, when i select "backup" and it gives me options to backup system, data, etc., under data it only shows 756 mb of data, i have at least 2000 mb, I am wondering if my phone is accessing the storage somewhere else? Please help me find out how to fix my errors. I wish to go back to where i was, or at least figure out what happened to increase my knowledge and NEVER do something like this again.
for some reason which i do not know, my sdcard files are saved in different places? i assume this is just how it's supposed to be. these loacations are : "/storage/emulated/0" - "/storage/emulated/legacy" - "/storage/sdcard0" - "/sdcard" (all of these folders have all of the same files etc.)
Thank you,
Evan

The answer to your mysterious factory reset lies here in this link. For further information see the link in this link

When in the TWRP file manger your /storage is a Folder called /sdcard.
And the multiple storage locations. Not all of these are actually physical locations you only have one memory chip with one set of files, the other locations are just emulated/virtual copies of your main storage
If you found my post helpful, no need to say thanks. There's a button for that

So what I've gathered from this, is that all my apps are gone forever because I forgot to backup the data. And that is because "Then along comes the recent TWRP builds (2.7.1.2+) that read the bcb on boot. You flash it and boot into recovery, TWRP starts, reads the wipe_data command out of the bcb and proceeds to wipe the /data partition."? Also should I run the reset script in this post? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=54370858&postcount=492
since I have a non-sprint htc one I'm not sure if this would do me harm or not. The reason I am asking all these questions is because I want to make sure I don't do something stupid again.

Yep that's about right. Running the script shouldn't do any harm but since you already experienced the Factory reset. The command should no longer be in your bcb anyway. As far as I'm aware this only happens once after a new flash and shouldn't repeat every time you use recovery.
But using the zip to clear your bcb is not a bad idea for piece of mind.
