Hi,
I was trying to change my boot animation, but (stupidly) forgot to backup my files before changing them, so now when booting a black screen shows. Could anyone upload the following files so I can change the animation back to its default?
/System/Bin/bootanimation
/System/Bin/Samsungani
/System/Media/bootsamsung.qmg
/System/Media/bootsamsungloop.qmg
/System/Media/shutdown.qmg
(I have a rooted Samsung s4 Active I9295)
Many thanks!

Just checking did you change permissions on those qmg files to rw-r--r-- (0644)? If not there's a good chance that's where your problem is coming from
Thanks, gave that a go with the files someone pm'd me and seems to have worked Also should the bootanimation file have rwx rx rx file permissions or not?

As far as I know, yes the bootanimation file should be rwxr-xr-x (0755)

I have rooted my LG Optimus 2x and have tested it by installing apps only for rooted phones. My phone has a bootanimation from the Swiss carrier Swisscom which is getting on my nerves as it also plays some miserable music. I have downloaded a different bootanimation but whe I try to rename the old bootanimation it says "insuffisient permission"....
anyone can help out with this please? There is also a close animation when turning the phone off.
Much appreciated.
Although you have root permissions you still need to mount the directory that the bootanimation is in with read/write permissions. If you have Root explorer this can easily be done.

astro file cant' change the bootanimation!
u can use "root explorer"!
I'm not entirely sure but i think you dont need to have to change the orginal bootanimation.zip
If you put the new one in data/local/ that should work as well. You should try that before you change stuff around.
Search on market for bootanimation. I changed mine aswell.

Do you need any further help? Or did you fix it
Make sure your bootanimation.zip only runs with 15fps and then put it to your sdcard.
Open up adb shell, and make sure you have root.
now use the following command to copy the new bootanimation to your phone:
cp /sdcard/bootanimation.zip /data/local/bootanimation.zipĀ“
If your bootanimation runs with more than 15fps, you will have to make a flashable zip, and flash it to /system/media/bootanimation.zip
more info about bootanimations here:

Hallo and sorry for the late reply. I was not able to change the bootanimation. I read that I need to change the name of the existing bootanimation.zip, name the new bootanimation.zip and just put it in the system/media using root explorer. is this correct? I do not think i have the knowledge to check the amount of fps and how to make a flashable zip in case its more than 15fps... sorry but it sounds a bit of rocket sience here..
I have found the bootaniation changer lite on Market.. is this something good? anyone tried it?
Your bootanimation does not need to be 15 fps. I have a 30 fps one in data/local and it works just fine.
I am using an galaxy mini plus device and I tried to change my stock bootanimation. I tried bootanimation manager from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=23899619, but with no succes. After I applied the animation I want and I reboot my phone I steel have my stock one.

But I don't find any tutorial that explains how to change bootanimations in stock roms.
Try here
http://www.google.com/cse?cx=partne...tf8&hl=en&q=change+boot+animation+galaxy+mini
I got the desired result on top why can't you
I delete "samsungani" file from system/bin/
I renamed "bootanimation" file from "system/bin/" to "samsungani"
I copy "bootanimation.zip" in "system/media/" , and the animation steel dont work.
you must be doing something wrong or the bootanimation is not created properly
to check if bootanimation is OK type su then samsungani in terminal if the bootanimation is played the bootanimation is OK and if not thenin boot animation something is wrong
I tried this bootanimation ( i attached it), but when I type in the terminal emulator "su and then samsungani" it playsa part of an old bootanim. ( not the stock one, the first custom one that I tried). I dont know why he do this. In media folder I have just the bootanimation arhive that I atached here.

hello all. i got a friend to send me their international qmg files for the boot animation. these files do not have the at&t Logo in it. here is a link to the zip file that has the qmg files inside it. just extract the zip. you need to be rooted for this. then go to system/media with a root explorer and rename bootsamsung and bootsamsungloop qmg files to .bak. then copy the files inside the zip to that location. make sure to change the file permissions to rw-r--r--. then reboot.
you can also get rid of that circle animation during the shutdown animation if you rename shutdownloop.qmg to .bak. this will make only the samsung logo show during shutdown.

thank you very much....i frigging hated that at&t logo :good:

When downloading the file under Windows, make sure you uncheck "Download with Dev-Host Download Manager" and also make sure you choose "Download Now" instead of "Download." If you try to download any other way, you'll find malware.
Hi
Hi I could hear someone spending poweroff.ogg the poweron.ogg the bootsamsung.qmg, bootsamsungloop.qmg and shutdown.qmg originals of at&t please
Remember to wipe cache after applying. At first I didn't and it caused long boot and system process failed to start dialog. Then black screen with only top notification bar pull down. I rebooted into recovery and wiped cache... Everything all good.
EDIT: I don't know why, but when I did this on my G900A is caused massive hang, and random bootlooping on Lollipop. It makes no sense as it is just a gif and an audio file being switched out. But sure as $h!t I deleted the new files and restore the backup and everything works flawless again.
Worked like a charm

I got it, had to use my computer for the 3rd time this year
Hello xda'ers
I just installed the unofficial 5.0 port on my Oneplus One and I am really happy with it. I didn't face any bugs during the setup and I am using it proudly for a few hours now. On the KitKat rom I was using before I had a custom boot animation I made myself and it worked very good. Now since I switched to Android l and I tried to flash it it didn't work (said successful but didn't applied). The same goes with other bootanimations I tried, so it shoudn't be compressed wrong or something. I am just curious if any of you nows a way to set a custom bootanimation on Android L because I thing eigther the directory has changed or something else I don't understand (I am new to this and this should be my "starter project" lol). I hope someone can help me.
Thanks Lukas

Shouldn't be compressed period, also make sure the permissions are set properly.

I already had this tool. That's actually the tool i used to amke the animation. My problem is that when i flash it it wouldn't apply and so does every bootanimation I tried. I think it is up to Android L.
Anyways, if anybody sees this it would be really nice of you if you could overlook my bootanimation and tell me what I did wrong. Because I tried everything now and It wouldn't work

What do you mean flash?
You don't flash a bootanimation.zip (see here)
Your .zip is not even a flashable zip file
Sorry, postet the wrong file. This is the non flashable zip that is in my flashable zip. I tried building a flashable zip, but if flashes successfully and doesn't apply, so it does not replace the bootanimation.zip in the /system/media/ folder. I am currently on mobile so I can't post the file, I may put a link in this post later on when I upload it somewhere. I really hope you can help me on this..
EDIT: here os the link to the flashable .zip I build: https://www.dropbox.com/s/hy05o88rlx79hlt/AndyBootanimationByNero.zip?dl=0

Try copying manually, and set the permissions.
Rename your original first, just in case.
Root Explorer method:
1. Rename your boot animation to bootanimation
2. Put it on your SD card
3. Open Root Explorer and copy bootanimation.zip to /system/media. This will replace the existing boot animation
4. Reboot your phone

Also check the following:
Common mistakes that people make:
-Wrong compression method: you MUST set the compression method to Store!
-Missing empty line at the end of the desc.txt file: an empty line is needed! Otherwise, the boot animation won't work!
-Frames drawn in wrong color mode: you MUST draw your frames in RGB 8bit or RGB 16bit COLOR MODE!

Okay I need to double check when I am off school. One thing I noticed is if I replace the animation manually it won't work, so it can be a probkem with the animation, thr pictures themselves, or the permission settings. How exactly to I set the permissions for the zip?

You use a root file manager to copy the file to the right directory. Then change the permissions of the zip AFTER you copy it to the right directory. Permissions should be rw-r-r

flash it in recovery and enjoy ur bootanimation.
Let me know if it worked fine for you!
I'm also trying this, and it's not working too. Permissions all set. Bootanimation is clean of junk files Windows/Mac adds.
Just a black screen.

This is an old thread, but I thought I'd jump in with a suggestion.
1080x1920 is really pushing things for animations. For my Nexus 5, I set my max animation sizes to either:
- 1080 wide X 768 high (for letter-boxed animations), set 1:1 in the desc.txt file (no scaling)
- 720 wide X 1280 high (for full-screen), set to 1080x1920 in the desc.txt
1080x1080 WILL NOT work; those still need to be 720x720 and scaled in the desc.txt to 1080x1080.
My recommendation is to crop the frames, centered, to 1080x720 and set it to 1080x720 in the desc.txt.
EDIT: Try this version (non-flashable): http://www.mediafire.com/download/4mcnpmpxlmvn24c/DerNero-bootanimation.zip
>>>>[BOOTANIMATION]<<<[FLASHABLE] made from the nexus 6p commercial
I was bored/ unemployed and decided to turn the nexus 6p commercial into a bootanimation.
Just replace your original from system/media ( make sure you keep the original in a safe place) change permission to rw-r--r--.
Hit like if you like. Hit donate if you want too. The attached .gif is not the actual boot animation just a preview made for this post.

Would you like the stock boot back? ( ALWAYS KEEP IT IN A SAFE PLACE) I'll post it below . I just noticed theres an Error in the flashable.Zip. (To add sound to your bootanimation you must save an .ogg file in the same folder and code it into the animation) .Use root explorer to replace whatever boot animation you have in the SYSTEM>MEDIA folder and edit permission to rwxr--r--
Thanks, I appreciate you helping me with the stock animation.
Can you help me figure out why the hell I can't get any other boot animations to work?

after my initial research your png files in each folder must be consecutive i.e P1 000.png-070.png P2 071.png - 139.png Etc..... they must be consecutive. you started from zero in each Part. 70 .png per folder

If you send me your original image files ill compile them for you i just dont want to go back through and rename all your files since you already have them. ship it to me in one bulk folder
I've attached a zip file with all of the images. I renamed each one to be in exact numerical order starting at 000 and going in increments of 001.
I placed that zip file with the desc.txt file into system/media and set the permissions at 0744(rxwr--r--).
It still didn't work.... Is there a limit to how many images can be in one folder?
I attached the zip in question to this post so you can see.
I also tried setting the permissions to 0644(rw-r--r--) and that didn't work either
