[Q] Keep Phone on when in dock automatically - Nexus 6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am debating car docks and looking at how to keep the phone screen on when in the dock automatically and to return to normal timeout after removed. It seems NFC is a one time thing, that it won't keep it on when near then go back to normal when removed. I looked at the idea of having it restore when disconnected from bluetooth but I normally put it in the dock, then start the car. So it won't be connected when it hits the tag, and should immediately return to normal mode, not kicking back in once bluetooth is on and connected.
Wondering what solutions people came up with to this dilemma.

Car dock disables

Does anyone else have a problem with the car dock randomly disabling and playing on regular speaker mode? Almost every time I dock it the phone will stop and using the navigation on it I need the loud dock speaker not the regular phones speaker. The phone still shows the orange light so it seems to still be connected to the power. I thought bumps may cause the plug to get lose and disconnect but since the orange light is on I don't think its that plus reconnecting it sometimes doesn't help. Any ideas? I'm going to use it for a 8 hour drive so I hope someone helps!!

Mine seems to goof up if I leave wifi on. Try turning off wifi. That seems to work for me. Sometimes if I drive past a house or whatever that has wifi my phone picks it up and it seems to goon up my car dock connection. Hope this helps

my wifi automatic turns off when i leave my remembered locations so i know its not on. its so annoying to worry about the gps/phone/navigation when getting turn by turn directions. this is because even though the phone has been connected and the light stays on when returning from the long drive the and undocked the phone i found the phone very low on battery. i dont understand why if i always checked the light to make sure its not being disconnected since i thought that would mean its not using the battery to power it. this time i am going to try like 4 apps that say they will keep it in dock mode bluetooth on so we will see. i wish i didnt have to load all these apps and just knew which works but i cant risk this happening in a big busy city.

This happens to me too, every once in a while. What I do is unplug the dock from the power, plug it back in, insert my N1 into the dock, go into settings and repair the dock. Works after that.

will keep this in mind. i noticed another problem. i lowered the audio when playing pandora internet radio but i cannot put it back to loud! ive tried audiomanager and nothing. used navigation to turn it up but it says its maxed already yet both are very low. its so odd that i can lower the audio but not make it louder. ive now lowered it to like 1 bar and cant hear nothing unless totally silent in the car. ive even downloaded some apps to max the dock audio but i dont think they worked. time to reinstall cm i guess.

Did you try the volume buttons on the dock?

Oops, just noticed a typo. My sentence should read like this: "This happens to me too, every once in a while. What I do is unplug the dock from the power, plug it back in, insert my N1 into the dock, go into settings and re-pair the dock (via Bluetooth). Works after that.

yea thahts the problem i cant make the volume higher just lower and no way i can get to the phones buttons without undocking the phone. hmmm i wonder if the volume is in the actual dock and a unplug will restore it.
Have had this problem (random bluetooth disconnects) with the car dock since, I think, 2.2.1 came along. Reseting the car dock (power off and on) sometimes resolves the issue. Prior to 2.2.1 I don't think this problem existed. Anyone confirm that ?
*Update* Nexus One died totally today and is being collected by HTC UK tomorrow. That might explain some of the more bizarre behaviour I have been seeing.
ive had the problem on 2.1 but it wasnt a big deal for around town. found it a pain in unknown cities especially noisy highways using the stock speaker on the phone. i got home today from the trip i must take every 6 months and stayed parked trying to figure it out. 1st thing i had to do was up the volume. i found a nice app called a2dp volume that helped restore max volume on the actual car dock. at that exact moment it was docked but switched back to speaker kicking off all car dock apps like navigation and car mode. i just left it in the dock trying not to tiggle anything to reactate it and checked the settings-wireless and bluetooth. under bluetooth settings way at the bottom in paired devices i saw the car dock nexus one. it said it was paired but not connected. i held down the item and clicked connect (also if clicking the item gives you like 3 checkmarks 2 checked but 1st box is unchecked named Connect) and that is how i fix it now. really annoying to navigate through all that just to reconnect the bluetooth to the device. looking for a app that will help with this. if anyone finds it please reply!
When you say your wifi turns off, does it turn itself back on when you go back to you remembered networks? If so disable wifi completely.

i have a app called y5 that completely turns off the wifi when away from the remembered area. with that app, i cannot turn on/off the wifi because the app will not allow changes unless i turn off that app.

NC Bluetooth disconnect after standby

Hi,
First off: Nook Color devs, you've done extraodinary work! I can't believe all the stuff my nook can do now
Second off: I think is the right place to post this, but if not, please let me know where. After quite a long while of forum searching, I haven't found any other NC bluetooth related threads which match what I'm seeing.
Recently, Apple bluetooth mouse and keyboard drivers (or something) added.
I had a set lying around to test, and they paired and worked well!
Problem:
I put the NC to sleep, and after about 5 seconds, I turn it on again,
Now neither keyboard and mouse can send input
Bluetooth symbol on NC is still blue, and
NC settings seem to Think input devices are still connected.
Only way to get input back is to turn off bluetooth, turn it on again, reconnect input devices.
The issue persists under these conditions:
- with/without wifi on
- wifi sleep settings at any of the three (always on/only when plugged in/always off)
- with full wake lock
It does Not persist when NC is plugged in and charging, I can't get it to fail when plugged in.
so my attempt to logcat what happens on standby fails..
I did, however, manage to get it to fail, and then immediately plugged in NC to get logcat output (attached).
Hope that covers anything useful. Has anyone else observed this behaviour, or is it just me?

[Q] TF701T won't stay powered off while in KB dock

Hi all. I'm having a problem getting my tablet to stay powered off when it is docked with the keyboard. When I power the tablet off and close the lid, invariably it ends up turning itself back on. At first I thought something might have been hitting the (terribly placed) power button in my bag, but I discovered it happened when sitting flat on my desk with nothing near it. I suspect the reason is because the connection between the tablet and the KB dock is loose and the tablet tends to wobble slightly, but I have not tried to fix that as I don't want to damage anything. A few other posters talked about using foam tape in the joint to take up the excess space and tighten it up, so I might try that, but I was just curious if anyone else had experienced the same thing and what, if anything, was your fix (for the power issue).
Same problem
Hi there,
I've experienced the same problem during a flight. I turned the tablet before going the Xrays in the airport, and it was turned back on on the other side. I'm agreeing on the connector theory that might be lose, or something in the docks that trigger the power on. When the tablet is not on the dock, it won't power by itself.

Head unit display keeps turning off

Good morning!
So I have a AVH-4100NEX and a Samsung Galaxy 6 Edge plus. Android auto worked perfectly at first, I updated the head unit to firmware 1.03 and it still worked fine but suddenly last night the screen on the deck kept turning off as soon as my phone screen shut off. Music keeps playing but no video. If I tap my phone screen to wake it up then it comes back until the phone screen turns off again. Both android auto and car mode say connected in the phone drop down bar, and it's fully functional - I can even press buttons on the Hu screen with it off and commands will work if I bump the right one. I don't see any settings and I can't think of anything that would cause this - any suggestions? Both my phone and the deck are on the newest version of the software available.
Thanks!
Cody
Sounds like a hardware failure that happens when it heats up.
I don't recall any similar reports.
Thanks for the reply! I reset my phone finally and it's working again, however if it comes back I'll try to see if the phone is warmer than usual.
Thanks -
Cody

Tablet Crashes When Docking into Older TF701 Dock

Hi,
Here's an interesting issue...
I have an old dock for a TF701 with a mechanically broken mount/dock but otherwise (was) working
I have a brand new TF701 plus new dock that all works fine
I also have a dock bought on eBay as a spare - working state unknown
The new tablet was updated to 4.4.2, and also updated the firmware on the new keyboard and is otherwise stock, and working fine. However, if I plug the tablet into the eBay dock, the display immediately disappears and the tablet will not respond until I undock it and hold the power button for a couple of seconds - at which point it boots up, suggesting that it instantly crashes when docking.
If I try holding the power button while the tablet is docked in the eBay dock, the screen back light comes on and off, but nothing else.
Suspecting an electrical failure in the eBay dock, I removed the dock/mount part and swapped it on the old keyboard that was mechanically broken - same result - the tablet crashes, and then has to be booted once undocked.
The tablet still works perfectly well in the new dock...
Has anyone come across this? I can't believe it is due to having old firmware in the older docks, but I can't really see what else could be at issue...
Curiously, I also reconnected the original electrical connector on the broken dock, and tried plugging that in (without the mechanical part of the docking mount), but this produced the same result (i.e. using my old keyboard, with all of the original (working) electrical components changed nothing)...
I'm somewhat surprised.
Any thoughts on this?
