I noticed a strange white plastic insert under the sim card cover, its just above the sim card. I pulled it mostly out at first, but pushed it back in as I don't know why its there. Anybody know what it is? Im probably missing something obvious and being stupid asking, but I have no idea what it is at the moment.
You can see the edge in the attacked photo.
It's a tag that shows the different identification numbers of your phone.

Ah ok thanks, is it needed? Obviously its not important for the phone, but will removing it trigger some hidden warranty void or something silly?
It's not needed for the phone to operate however if something were to happen where the phone won't boot that tag is the only way to find that information.
It might show the information on the box as well but any one can borrow some one else's box so that isn't as much proof as having that tag in your phone so if you send it in for warranty they would most likely deny it since there is a possibility your trying to send another phone in to get fixed.

Ill leave it there, thanks again (and its bigger than I expected, had a look properly and it seemed like it was just going to keep coming!)
If you take it to get repaired they will check that tag to see if they will accept your phone or not. If you don't have it and your phone won't turn on, then they won't service it.
So on a related note, does anyone know what the other slot beside the sim card is for? It's another small slot with what looks like the edge a silicone circuit board in it. Anyone know what it is? Is it anything servicable?

I guess I'm one of the unlucky ones who has to send this phone in for repair.
Going there this morning..
My question is to those that have received their phones back. Any indication that the repair done has anything done different to the phone?
I mean, if they are just replacing the defective guts with essentially the exact same guts but working, does that not mean it will just happen again (SD Failure)?
Or did they actually change something within the phone to make it more durable and essentially eliminate what brought it to them in the first place?
Hopefully someone in the know could answer this... pointless to repair something with another soon to fail board or sd card.
that is a very good question, of all the phones i sent in for repair and got back
they kept their original IMEI numbers
they all came back with replaced PCB (motherboard) and cause of failure is "No Power"
by that i figure out they mean, it does not charge when you plug in the USB cable to the phone after it dies.
it seems like whatever controls the internalSD also controls the USB charging of the phone
so the problem might not really be with the internal SD but rather the power relay that supplies power to the internal SD and battery charge.

This is a great point allgamer.
However fact still remains... if they are swapping out the guts for identical, but working internals, that defeats the purpose of actually correcting the problem as the problem will surely pop up again.
Lets hope it doesnt.. but this phone doesn't seem like a good candidate for constant flashing the way my old HTC Touch Diamond was. Especially if you're doing it with ODIN, you may not have a leg to stand on come out of warranty claims.
At least if you flash something with KIES, because it was an "official" update provided by samsung. So if the phone goes corrupt, you can yell to the heavens and they'd have to fix it, because essentially they corrupted your phone.
It would be great to get some feedback from other members who received their phone back from repair. I wonder if one of those members had the SD go corrupt again with the new Motherboard in place.
So, it's stupid situation, and as i searched i'm not the first who have the same problem. So nano sim adapter got stuck in my phone aand when i was trying to get it out (alredy did) i broke something inside, when i shake phone i can hear it. I tried to look into the slot, i saw all 3 pins on their places (idk what i broke down) but still, when i insert sim it says no sim. On miui rom when I inserted sim it said no service (so is it alive?)
but after turning airpalne on/off it said no sim again.
I think when i tried to remove stucked adapter it lowered pins and they don't reach sim.. So the worst part now is teardown. Found video, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3hORFjKVr18 looks easy, but this phone was never disassembled, so the glue is strong. Also, new sim flex costs 4$, but i afraid to make it even worse.
I have a warranty, but it's from another country, but it should be accepted here. But will they repair, since it's my fault?
And any ideas how much replacement will cost?
No one responded. ookay.
So i installed viperx rom, when i insert sim nothing happens, when i remove it - "Sim card not detected" - "make sure that your sim is prorerly inserted"
So it's definately alive. I need to make better contact or somehow pull up pins.
Today tried to remove back cover with no success. Goes really hard and i left scuffs around housing.
So still i didn't get answer about warranty. Is this case under warranty?
Should i send it to official htc service?
okay. I disassembled my htc one. ^^
One thing left to do: remove screen to get that f*cking sim reader.

You shouldn't have done that. That completely voids the warranty. HTC might have covered the SIM tray replacement under warranty. Make sure u re-assemble the phone properly

i have unlocked bootloader, also it's my fault a bit. I have sent them email, but they haven't answered. Also nearest HTC center is in another country
I saw an almost complete housing (black or silver) on e&ay. Front (digitizer), back and simtray for a reasonable price (~38 usd incl. shipment).
It's a lot of work, but would restore your device in new condition.
it's possible to change sim slot only which costs 4$.
But there is no lcd and sim slot? I don't need it then.
Maybe someone knows , is sim slot soldered to phone? because i can see a flex and wondering how to remove it.
It was just glued. Now i'm going to order new adapter.
So here's my situation
While crawling across a rapids I slipped, dipped my phone in the river, and thought all was lost.
I pulled the case and back shell off immediately and it seemed all was well once I dried the G2 with rice for 12 hours. BUT, the sim card no longer would read. After getting back home from my trip I pulled the entire phone apart and discovered the reader looked a bit rough and the slot was probably shot from the water hitting it. SIM card works fine in my S3 mind you.
So where I am at is I have a new SIM reader on its way here to install in a day or so which I THINK should solve the issue. Im curious if anyone else has installed this component before?. Appears to be 6 solder points that hold it in and thats about it. Hell of a thing that the entire phone works flawlessly but the SIM reader shat itself. Never seen anything like it.
Any and all input or ideas are welcome.
Cheers

Did you end up installing it?
My sim reader always gave out and I'm thinking of ordering the part but haven't been able to find a tutorial for the replacement.
I too would like to know the result...

I did end up installing the tray. However, as I removed the contacts that were placed on the board itself and so when I soldered in the new tray there was two points which would not adhere. I ended up replacing the whole board in order to remedy things.
But, most importantly I confirm the board install isnt too hard and will work if you just make sure to properly remove the old tray and dont just pry it off. The prying will rip the contacts from the board and then the solder wont hold.
I have an annoying problem with my One that I really hope someone can help me fix:
After taking out my sim card, I cannot put it back in and make it stay put. I put the sim card in the tray, put the tray in the slot, but it is like the spring/mechanism that pushes the tray out (when pushing a pin in the tray openerhole) got stuck, and I cannot make the tray stay put. Hence I have to keep the tray/sim card in place with a piece of gaffa tape... And that doesn't even work well, as - appart from looking silly - the spring/mechanism pushes the tray harder than the tape can hold after a few days.
I searched a lot for a solution to this problem, but it doesn't seem to be normal.
Anybody? Please.

Sorry, I don't know of a fix. It sounds like your lock mechanism is broken which is a hardware fix.
Maybe, you can find a case that forms around the phone and it would or should hold the card tray in place.
Call HTC Service Center to see if they have a solution.

Thanks. I'll look for a case. Though the phone is big enough as it is. I'll ask at my local HTC-shop as well.

as a temp solution you could just use a small piece of clear tape
I was in one of those ubreakifix places (I know I know, hear me out) to get a battery replacement done quickly. Right there at the counter I said, "wait let me get my sim out so I can put it in my backup phone" and as I inserted the removal tool, the whole sim card holder edge broke off....leaving the sim card and the tray in there, irrertrievable. Putting the removal tool in there does nothing. There seems to be no way of getting it out. The people there told me that is a really complicated fix on this phone (compared to the battery) and did not recommend I pay for it.
Anyone else have this happen and any solutions?
You might be able to use tweezers to get your SIM out, but the tray is "latched" in and the tool is supposed to unlatch it. If it were simply the tray that were broken and out of the phone, there's replacements easily available, but I'm not sure it's possible to get the broken tray out of the phone without disassembling the phone itself.
Sorry to hear you had a bad experience with uBreakiFix. I've had pretty good results with them.
