This was created when we didn't have S-OFF yet.
If you have S-OFF or /system overlay script you won't need to go through all the steps simply download adfree android.
I know most of you will be able to do this. But I believe that it might not be as easy for the beginners. So here is a little walk through.
!NEEDs ROOT!
1. Download Adfree Android
2. Wait for it to determine local hosts then click on download and install hosts.
Now it will try to replace /system/etc/hosts but fail (it should reboot the phone but it didn't reboot mine)
4. go to adb and reboot your phone into recovery (with power on+volume down OR the command: "adb reboot recovery")
5. Open up the recovery-windows (start recovery-windows (make sure your in the right directory))
6. mount your system and sdcard you might be able to just use mount and mount everything but I've mounted them serperatly.
Here's how: "adb shell mount /system" next "adb shell mount /sdcard"
7. Now we're going to put it in the etc directory where it should be: "adb shell cp /sdcard/hosts /system/etc"
8. reboot the phone ("adb reboot")
That should remove most of the adds.
I know it's explained on a really low level of knowledge but I wanted to make it accessible for all of you.
Only the needed codes:
Code:
1. adb reboot recovery
2. start recovery-windows
3. adb shell mount /system
4. adb shell mount /sdcard
5. adb shell cp /sdcard/hosts /system/etc
6. adb reboot
has it the option to only block browser ads? when I tried it time ago it couldn't. I don't like to block the app ads
No it removes the adds everywhere. It simply blocks the links to adds. it doesn't actually remove them. they are still being called but they just don't show up.
Hi,
I have this very same problem for a long time now, with the constant reboots etc.
Followed your steps, but after the reboot, as soon as I press the button to update the hostfile, it reboots my phone
Thanks anyway...

Do you have root access?
Have you checked if the hosts file is at the root of your SD?
A good guide, if a little misplaced, but another option is the /system overlay.

Yes and yes
where is the most recent hosts file? I'm using a vibrant and it says it worked, but of course, it doesn't. And it doesn't copy the hosts file to my sdcard either ? odd
Hello ,
Finally I got Adfree working
Ok it's not perfect because app continue to reboot the phone after updating the hosts file ,
and we need to copy it manually in recovery mode but it better than nothing
Thank you very much JonasDroid for this little How to .

Can you link me the apk of adfree? I can't download the app from my phone
BTW it's 'ADs" single d
short for advertisment (notice the single d?)
Fixed that English is not my main language

Can't get "start recovery-windows" to work. What is the "right directory"?
Things seems to have worked for me without that portion. Many thanks, I will now change my review in the market for that app from one star to three stars. If they include a note describing this problem upfront I may bump it up further.
It could simply be called start recovery (depending on where you got your rooting tools)(if you've got the from The Unlockr you'll need the -windows)
If you have S-OFF or if you use an /system overlay script these steps aren't needed. (It was created when we didn't have S-OFF for our legends yet.)
Anyone having problems with adfree scripts on Legend since Froyo update? Neve had a problem witha rooted 2.1, but have lots of problems since rooted Froyo 2.2
It seems HTC may have some service which is checking for modifications to symlinks etc.
When I run adfree in my S-off CM7, i get an java.io.EOFException.
Someone else having this?
I had some problems at first, but reinstalling adfree android from market seemed to help. No problem now with CM7 (01/03 from ali ba) and s-off.
adfree no block ads!
Hi,
i install the adfree on my legend with 2.2 with sense.
i did download the host from the app all work ok got a message say it was success install and need to restart the phone.
i did it but still get all the ad like before on all apps.
pls help!
Have you followed the steps? (explained in first post)
Note that you should have a rooted legend (if you don't know what that is then you don't have one)
Simply it's the best rom combination to be the most stable rom i have ever used and now am using it daily with no problems :-
(you may find it difficult but i swear u will be very happy with the results just give it a try)
Download rom:-

2- Copy contents from the rar file to SD card ...
3- Open folder npkinstall and run install.exe
4- After restart open haret.exe normaly ...
5- download better keyboard from attachements and put it in ur androidapps folder in sd card

you must do this to make ur button work and to be able to restart it by one press
open terminal emulator then type the following :-(press enter when u write the letters in each line)
Code:
su
mkdir /data/opt
cp /sdcard/autostart.sh /data/opt
chmod 755 /data/opt/autostart.sh
Then install autostart.apk (found in the rom source folder)
When your buttons stop functioning, you have to run a script from GScript that reinstalls the modules so they work once more. Perform these steps:
Install GScript.apk
Open GScript Lite and press <menu> button, then <add script>
Press the <Load file> button.
The script you need is located autmatically and is called "XPEROID Gscript Button restarter script.sh"
Select it and then in the new screen press <Save>
You can now return to your homescreen and add a shortcut to the script so you can reset your buttons easily. To do this do the following:
Press <menu> and then <add> to add widgets.
Select <shortcut> from the list and then locate and select <GScript Lite>
Then select the "XPEROID Gscript Button restarter script" and you now have a shortcut on your homescreen to reset your buttons.

read first post!!!
It seems like you forgot to say that some keyboard application should be downloaded and placed on SD card before taping a script code that you have posted in Emulator, because at the time of first run there is no possibility to tape anything at all (HW keyboard doesn't work without running the script, but the script itself cannot be run without it) Anyway it is useless because there is no way to run Edit command within Gscript, because... HW keys don't work!
Please, correct your first post keeping in mind that HW keys don't work without some doing.
Anyway, it could be a really good thing, it runs so smooth!
so i should copy
Better KB.apk
Ginger KB.apk
Smart KB.apk
SwiftKey KB.apk
to the root of the sd card first before i run haret is that correct?
Here is the guide wich allows you to wake keyboard with 1 click instead of rebooting the device. Guide is for freshly installed android (so no just updating the kernel).
1. Move autostart.sh from the included Folder and place it to your SD card
2. Install android like normal.
Until step 8, keys won't work, except for camera and power button. If you screw up, press camera button to return to the home screen.
3. Launch "Terminal Emulator". Soft keyboard should pop up.
4. Type "su" (everything without quotes from now on). Press enter. Symbol on the left should change to #.
5. Type "mkdir /data/opt" and press Enter.
6. Type "mv /sdcard/autostart.sh /data/opt" and press Enter.
7. Type "chmod 777 /data/opt/autostart.sh" and press Enter.
8. Type "sh /data/opt/autostart.sh" and press Enter. Software keyboard should disappear now and keys should be working.
9.Install application "autostart.apk"
From here, your android is working. If you wish to add 1-click keypad fix, then continue reading ...
10. Install application "GScript Lite".
11. Open GScript Lite.
12. Press left softkey (menu) and select "Add Script".
13. Load (XPEROID Gscript Button restarter script.sh)
14. Press save.
15. Return to the homescreen
16. Hold your thumb to get "Add to home screen" menu.
17. Select Shortcuts --> GScript Lite --> Script that you just created.
And now, each time your keyboard or front keys stops working, simply press camera key and tap on that icon you've just created
P.S.: this is not my work, i have just adapted what users seandean and yaana created. All credits go to them.
ON screen soft keyboard not present?
I can notate that screen keyboard is not present/installed?
And for the keyboard you can connect the phone through adb shell navigate to /sdcard/ and do the next:
chmod 775 autostart.sh
sh autostart.sh
Then you can do the configuration above ;-)
Hi , everything sounds good.
I am going to install / try directly when i am free of work
Most steps are normal steps when installing Android on X1.
However i do not understand what is meant by:
"open terminal emulator then type the following". Could someone explain how to do this (open terminal emulator)?
Is this done when having booted in Android? And if yes, how can i do this
Many MANY thanks in advance.
Willp ost results when i have had the time to test tonight
EDIT: ok tried it....looks VERY smooth, however i cna not get terminal emulator to do naything..
The peeps above are right... no soft Keyboard is present.
Any easy solution to this? (asume i have to install a soft kb first i gues...think i will give that a try.
Well i got this version up and running .
I just installed a software tobo myself and then i went through all the steps required.
Have not yet had much time to check the possibilities and speed.
but first impressions are good
(before this one i had the honeycomb V2 Android running. this one "feels" better.
Wifi: still unstable (on/off at random, like in every build i installed)
Speed: looks VERY good
Battery: hard to say, going to see how long he will be up today.
Charging: Still have to connect in winmo in order to be able to load
Software: Market etc. running very good.
Going to test upcoming time and report in

I really followed the instructions as in the first post, I also made the ext2 partition, so I don't know
plz give it a 2nd try and tell me
Ok, installing again as we speak.. but thats only because it has dutch language support
(ok, ok, ánd because of full launcherpro version
ánd beautifull widgets (even while i dont use the widgets)
but it would be so much perfect if...
- keyboard would be installed on start (since no soft-keyboard is installed by default)
- kernel will be updated to last (Duckly's Kernel [3-9-2011]) (it also contains changelog = No Sleep Of Death)
- maby overclock to 650 Mhz (or is it already overclocked?
- betterterminal ssh would be fixed, or deleted, because both times i installed it didnt work..
(java.io.IOException: Unexpected http status code 404 Expected 200)
Jhonnie's own graphic request:
- auto-install startupcleaner would be banished,
it has a hideous icon in top! Juch! (and it can't uninstall it )
- bootanimation.zip will be changed to gingerbread's one
- why it got the fancy transitions between screens? fast, but may be to kinky.....
(can i disable the transitions in android install??)
Q's:
1.can some1 tell me how i do install drivers for ADB/debug usb?
2.does the android setup (first boot) always crash?
3.if you add autostart to AndroidApps, does it really autostart keyboard drivers,
or is this a one-time install android ever..?
This guide is to enable USB charging on your Samsung Galaxy Tab.
Requirements:
- Any rooted ROM with Pershoot's kernel
- ScriptManager (free market app)
- USB Charging Script
Procedures
- Ensure you have a rooted rom/custom rom with pershoot's kernel like task650 and PhantomHacker's In Paris rom. Download and install ScriptManager from Android Market. Download the script using the link above and store it anywhere on your tab.
- Open script manager
- Navigate to wherever you stored the script and choose it. Tick run as root and run on boot. Press run.
- If it asks for superuser/root access, please allow it.
- you're done. Press home to exit. Reboot.
Note
Please read and follow all instructions and I am not responsible if anything goes wrong. this should not damage your battery. the reason why samsung disabled usb charging is not because they were worried it would damage the battery. it is because the tab charges very slowly over usb, so they didnt want people to leave a zero battery tablet charging overnight on their pc usb to wake up and find that its only charged 50%.
The common USB connections provide 5 volts DC and between 500mAh to 1,000mAh at most whereas the main power supply provides 12 volts DC and between 1200mAh to 2400mAh. Our Samsung Galaxy Tab needs about 2,000mAh for normal charging. This mod just lets you charge using that low voltage and current from the usb anyways. It is useful for someone like me who never lets the battery drain to zero and I am almost always next to a laptop so when I am watching tv or doing something else, it is always charging.
thanks to pershoot for his kernel, developers on this forum for their excellent roms.
thanks to Giblet-dono for his help and pointers in this thread

Requirements:
- Any ROM with Pershoot's kernel
- Samsung Mobile drivers (most of you should already have them)
- Latest Android SDK (download the zip file)
- ADB files
Procedure:
- Dont plug in your Galaxy Tab via USB yet. Make a nandroid backup just incase something goes wrong. (Boot into clockworkmod recovery -> backup and restore -> backup)
- Install the Samsung Mobile drivers
- Extract the contents of the sdk zip file onto your desktop. you should get a folder called android-sdk-windows.
- Open this folder and copy all its contents. Go to your C: drive and create a folder called androidsdk and paste the files into this folder.
- Extract the contents of the ADB files zip file you downloaded to C:\androidsdk\tools
- On your tablet, go to Settings->Applications->Development and enable USB debugging. Plug in your Galaxy Tab now.
- On your Windows computer, click on Start and type in cmd in the search bar and press enter.
- type the following and press enter after each line
cd\
cd androidsdk\tools
adb devices
- you should see a combinations of letters and numbers followed by the word device. this means that the adb can interact with your tablet.
- type in the following to enable usb charging (ensure that command prompt is still in the C:\androidsdk\tools folder). again press enter after each line.
adb shell
echo 1 > /sys/class/power_supply/battery/force_usb_charging
exit
you should now be able to charge your tablet via usb.

Adding to an existing script works for me. Could not get it working for a new script. Must be missing something. Ironically I just made two cables up tonight with resistors as per other forums. Both hardware and software setups work well! Screw you Samsung

Yep leave that line there. Press enter to go to the next line. Then type in
su
Press enter again. It should ask for superuser permission which requires root. Allow it root access. Now type in
echo 1 > /sys/class/power_supply/battery/force_usb_charging
And save it and follow the rest of the steps in OP
I'm not getting a su request when I'm typing the script. Getting a notification when I run it, then says su isn't found

Make sure of the following -
- your tablet is rooted
- you have busybox v1.18.2 or lower by downloading busybox installer from market
running in Paris, so that's taken care of.
Su gave permission now. It's just sitting there saying it's running [email protected]:/ #. should it stay like that or will it finish at some point. Thanks for the script, once I figure this out it'll be great.

Yep its supposed to just sit there. Once you have saved it, just press the back key and choose the file you created. Tick run as root and run on boot and click run. Again it won't do much and it will just show you a command prompt screen. Press home. It should work.
If its getting too complicated for you to follow, I just uploaded my script in the OP. just download it to your tab and run it using ScriptManager. Just tick run as root and run on boot and run it. Thats all. Dont need to type anything.
I tried it, it's working. Thanks for the mod
I'm curious about one thing regarding this mod.
Would it be possible that this can hurt the battery? I mean, what happends to the battery if it gets fed with a current and voltage that is not the current and voltage it was made for? Could that damage the cells?
I'm a computer engineering student but unfortunately we do not study much electronics, perhaps someone with deep electronics and/or chemical knowledge could write something about this? Would be awesome to know more on why/why not it can/can not harm the battery.

Thanks to zeppelinrox for creating the V6 SuperCharger script. Please be sure to hit "Thanks" at this thread if you like his work.
Can you notice a difference? It was debatable if it helped on the Nook Color, how's it look on the K1 with much better hardware.
Thanks a lot....I just ****ed up my K1 with this **** a second time.
I did stick 100% to your directions....all went fine till the reboot...and then I get thousands of force closes....cant do anything.
I did it the original way in the v6 topic.
I did it your way.
Edit:
Damn I forgot this:
FOR HONEYCOMB
if using adb
Open another terminal window and run
Code:
adb shell rm -r /data/firstboot
if using a terminal emulator
Open another terminal tab by tapping the "+" in the top right corner and run
Code:

Update:
thanks it runs....the last part was the problem....will test over the weekend.
Does this really work? That original thread reads (and looks) like an infomercial, LOL. Does your Google Play Store still work properly afterwards?
I installed RAM Manager Pro on mine and was using it for a little while, but then I started noticing that I couldn't update any of my apps through the Play Store. They would constantly say "Downloading..." and nothing would happen. They never got to a KB download counter. When I uninstalled RAM Manager Pro, app updates started working again for me.

Yes, it works fine. I just installed 1 app and updated a bunch
send by K1
It works. I also just updated some apps and installed a new game from play store (yes I did force the update). Firefox runs faster. Everything "feels" more fluid.

Thanks for the info and thank you Khanning for everything you've done to make the K1 a better device!
Makes a great differance even with rooted HC rom which is already very stable and fast.... Thanks KHanning
How to root your Samsung Gear with Tizen
Before I start, I would like to credit Jijonhyuni for the root method, TML1504 for the camera silencing method and fibs for extracting the SDB utility from the Tizen SDK. I couldn't find an easy guide to rooting the Gear with Tizen so I thought I'd be helpful and provide a 'how to' post.
As with all rooting guides on XDA, I take no responsibility for you damaging your device. So read first and follow with precaution.
Steps for root
1. Make sure you're using a Gear 1 (v700) not 2.
2. Ensure that you are running the Tizen operating system. If not, you can update officially via Samsung kies.
3. Download this image file.
4. Download this sdb command prompt or download the SDK and just choose to install the appropriate SDB library from the installer.
5. Download Odin
6. Put the gear into bootloader mode. To do this, turn off the device. Then turn on and keep the power button held in until it says "Gear Rebooting...". Once it says this keep pressing the power button until the bootloader menu is displayed. At this point, press the power button once to highlight "Download" then press and hold the power button one last time to select it. This should enter downloading mode, where it warns to not turn off the target.
7. Put the gear into the charging device and plug into your PC. If you've not done this before, wait for the driver to automatically install before proceeding to step 8.
8. Extract then open up Odin and don't change any of the settings. All your need to do is to select 'AP' and choose the first file you downloaed 'v700_rootfs.img.tar'. Click start and wait for Odin to flash (should take around 30 seconds).
9. Let it reboot (I think it will restart 2 times and you've successfully rooted!!!
Steps for removing camera sounds
1. Turn on 'USB debugging' on the Gear by going into Settings|Gear Info|USB Debugging.
2. Plug your gear into your PC if it isn't already from the rooting procedure.
3. Extract the sbd.exe and put it somewhere easy to access (ie the root of a drive). I've put mine in the root of my C: drive. hence why the first line of the commands below starts with 'C:' If you put it somewhere else, make sure you point the command prompt to the relative directory.
4. Click the start button in Windows and type 'cmd'. Right click on 'Command Prompt' and open as administrator.
5. Type each line, one at a time and press return. If it shows no errors, then the command should have worked successfully. Work your way through each one.
C:
sdb root on
sdb shell mount -o remount,rw /
sdb shell mv /usr/share/sounds/mm-camcorder/ /usr/share/sounds/mm-camcorder_bak/
sdb shell mv /usr/apps/com.samsung.w-camera-app/res/sounds /usr/apps/com.samsung.w-camera-app/res/sounds_bak

6. Unplug the Gear and turn off USB debugging in Settings|Gear Info|USB Debugging, then reboot the device.
7. Take a photo/video. No sound!
And finally, let me know if it works!
Thanks for the tutorial. Nicely done!
My pleasure. I only did it because there's so much of the "Odin|Flash|Done!" tutorials these days and it really doesn't help beginners. Just doing my bit

Thanks! But this:
4. Download this sdb command prompt (from the Tizen SDK).
Leads to an unavailable DL page.
Invalid or Deleted File.
The key you provided for file access was invalid. This is usually caused because the file is no longer stored on MediaFire. This occurs when the file is removed by the originating user or MediaFire.
Still have questions, or think we've made a mistake? Please contact support for further assistance.

It's all good. I googled the SDK and the friggin thing is still installing - I think it's actually hung up , lol 1.6GBs...
But anyhoo, I went into the directory and copied the SDB.exe over to c:/ drive, followed your instructions and BINGO, no more shutter sound!
There is a focus sound apart of the shutter sound in Tizen camera like in Android? If so, the method to silent the camera here described removes it?
Thank you very much.

Hahaha!! Amazing, glad it worked. The camera is one of my favourite parts of the watch, but it's so lame with a massively loud sound.

Thank you very much. That's the only thing I was waiting to be solved to update to Tizen.

Any time. Enjoy, it's really good
It's simple enough just to download sdb and the appropriate libs correctly from the tizen download tool.
Unselect everything and just tick SDK development tools ; 1.6M download.

I faced the same problem and solved by installing the drivers from here http://down2.local.sec.samsung.com/...load/SAMSUNG_USB_Driver_for_Mobile_Phones.zip
thanks a lot it works great now !!!!!
Thank you so much for this quick and easy tutorial! I feel better that with it rooted it'll be less likely that we'll be caught by a firmware update that doesn't allow us to downgrade to Android should an Android Wear port come out in the future.
i did it kind of . . . t.t
arrggghhh i thought i found a fix but didnt so now i need help t.t
