How does dual sim work - G 2014 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi. I have a GB xt1068 (dual SIM) and am wondering what the second SIM will allow me to do. It it simply like having two mutually exclusive phone lines in one handset (e.g. need to activate one or the other) or can they work together (e.g receive call from either)

Dual SIM is useful for various situations. I personally use it to both have a cheap 3GB mobile internet (tablet contract) and a cheap phone/SMS (prepaid), since there are no contracts for that much data+phone for a low price where I live.
When you are travelling a lot, you can use the second SIM slot for a SIM from a local carrier, so you don't have to roam but still can be contacted with your number in the original SIM slot.
You can also use it for your work SIM, if you don't handle crucial company data, so you don't have to carry around two devices. After work, you can easily disable the SIM, if you don't want to be contacted any more.
However, AFAIK, the Moto G 2014 only has one GSM and one HSDPA modem for both SIMs. So you can not have two calls or two data connections at the same time. But it is easily possible to switch the SIM (for example right before a call, you can decide from which SIM to call).
Hope that helped

Note that one sim will use 3G only and the other will be 2G for phone calls. So if you plan on use a three network sim for phone calls then the other sim will be downgraded to 2G so you will not be able to use data on that at the same time.

Dual Sim Adapter for Dell Streak

Just tried a 28th Gen Dual Sim (no Cutting) MultiSim on my Streak. It fits behind the battery cover with one sim on top of the other. I had to use a little force to close the cover but it seems fine. On 351 -15609 you can change sims using the sim toolkit to select sim1 or sim2. No reboot required takes about 30 seconds to swap. 3G works on both sims. Great for traveling and using local country sims to avoid roaming charges. When home I put the sim from my usb 3g modem in the second slot to get unlimited 3g internet, when I am not using the phone for calls.

It arrived in about a 1week.
Useful perhaps if you have a holiday destination you often travel to, but unless you can se both at the same time I don't see the point for myself.

[Q] Dual Sim issue with Three UK network.

So my brother got the Moto G 2014 Dual Sim, and it is a really nice phone, but there is a problem.
His data SIM is on one network, and his other SIM (pay as you go) is on Three UK.
Since Three's network has only 3G and 4G, when the data is truned on the first SIM, the second SIM is put to 2G mode, and since the network does not support 2G, the SIM does not work...
So the question is, is there a way to force both SIMs to stay on 3G mode no matter which one has the data turned on?
Thanks in advance!
That's one of the reasons i switched. H3G is an awful company
If your bro decides to swap because of this I use (and can recommend) GiffGaff (or the one he's already with) in one slot for calls and texts and a T-Mobile sim (normal sim for calls/texts/data) in the other, the T mobile sim is then using 3g internet on the 6 months data plan for £20 at 1gb a month download + unlimited browsing.
If there is no way to force 3G mode on both, he will move his sim. The only reason he has it is because it's the cheapest PAYG (1-2-3).
I myself am with Three UK, and I am pleased with the service so far. I am on a 30 day rolling contract (15 quid a month unlimited internet/texts and i think 200 mins), so if I am only staying with them if I feel like I am getting a good enough service.
I hope there is a way to force 3g mode but if not then he will move his PAYG three sim to something else (most likely GiffGaff).

[Q] dual SIM question

Quick question for you dual SIM users.
Does the Moto G2 support 3G on both Sims?
I intend using two three SIM cards, but they only support 3G. So if SIM two is only working on 2G it would be no good to me.
Thanks
The data connection is for one sim only, you get to choose if you use data on sim one or two, data is automatically change sim, for example from 3g sim1/2g sim2 to 2g sim1/3g sim2
Thanks, I'm with you. So with my two three Sims there would be only one SIM on at any one time.
I have I signal SIM moto g1 now, and if I switch to 2g only the three SIM no longer works.

Both Sim work at the same time while I'm using 3g in any Sim.
Data is available only for one Sim at a time, but the change is really fast and automatic when you select which Sim to use for data
I use mine with same carrier, it uses the 850mhz band.
Remember this phone is dualsim standby, it means if you're using voice in one Sim the other is unreachable.

Yes just on most networks if you are on 2G the sim still works. On three they don't.
A three SIM won't work on 2G no calls text or anything.
So even with both sims in standby only one would receive calls, am I right?
Only way to receive calls on either SIM (from standby) on a moto g is if at least one SIM works on 2G?

I've own two dual sim phones s4mini (lost it) an this moto g 2014, both are stated as dual sim standby, I haven't notice any difference in the way they handle simcards/data/voice.
On both phones I've use same carrier/numbers, one is personal (same number for 10+ years) the other from work (same number for 5+ years).
I've never missed a call on either Sim.
Even if I'm downloading something I can receive calls and text messages on that sim the download stops but my phone core functionality is still a phone for both simcards with any combination of data in 2g/3g or 2g/2g.
I'm never going to carry two separated phones, for me is enough the dualisim standby functionality.
For you is a pain that your carrier don't support 2g network any dual sim standby won't work, you need a dual sim phone with two separate modems

Thanks for confirming that, only other thing I can do is use one SIM and activate call divert on the other number.
That's the main drawback with three only supporting 3G/4G

Dual Sim Data Questions

Hi,
Got the note 9 since friday. working great. but i noticed that when i call on sim2, i can use mobile data of sim 1.
Default mobile data is from sim1. and phone calls are set to ask every time.
now my sim2 is my work number. during the working hours i call alot with this number.
my sim 1 is my private sub from t-mobile. and i mainly use the data plan of it. since i dont wanna use the internet that my boss pay's for for my personal use.
Now since i got this setup. what happends is. some one texts me a foto through whatsapp. and then calls me to sim2 before i can look / dowload the picture. then when i pickup the phone they ask me did u see the picture i sent you. i then open whatsapp. but i get the msg no network.
what i noticed is that when i call on sim1 i still have LTE data. (cause sim1 provides the data)
so it cant use data from sim 1 and voice from sim2 at the same time?
also is there a way to set certain apps to use data of a specific sim card?
lets say i open my 2nd whatsapp that it loads the images sent there from my sim2 network
but when i open my 1st whatsapp (2nd app cloning) it uses data from sim1?
or any other apps for exmp chrome and samsung internet?
is there any tweak that automates the switch data to sim2 as soon as i make a call with sim2?
now i can just click on the sim settings menu and change the default data to sim2 to receive data during the call. but when im driving in my car this are alot of buttons to press and i rather not.
i don't own N9 yet. read about dual sim technology varieties on the net, theoretically N9 should be able to get dual VOLTE feature on both SIMs (assuming it supported by carrier(s), and phone shows VOLTE icon on both SIMs). in the event you are making call on SIM 1 & trying to get data on SIM 2 or vice versa, this requires dual sims dual volte (DSDV) feature kicks in and liberates you to choose which SIM to get data from.
might really want to consult with your carrier(s) if both SIM support VOLTE.
Are you able to get VoLTE and WiFi calling to work on the international dual sim F variant of Note-9 on US T-mobile network?

Dual sim Data confirmation if possible

I saw something a bit odd here. It says here on specs that secondary sim only supports voice but from what I know is that both SIM cards support data. Is there something wrong here? Do both sim slots not support data? To the best of my knowledge with this phone you can have two SIM cards and use data on both of them allowing you to download two WeChat apps and have two numbers for each WeChat account on one smartphone. Is this not the case now?? See link from HK below and look at the bottom of the specs page for supported bands on SIM card tray.

Hi
I don't have a second SIM handy but looking at the settings you set the phone with a default SIM for calling and a default for data. Makes sense you would have to do this. So outbound calls and default use of data is pushed through either SIM. Don't know if that helps....
Found a SIM and popped this in. I now have another option enabled which says switch data connection between calls. So the option moves the data to SIM 2 when taking a 4g call on SIM 1....
