anyone seen this: http://gsminsider.com/2013/11/miui-android-4-4-kitkat-february-2014/
i know there is much hate on miui. i've used it in the past on other phones and it was not a bad experience.
Nice, looking forward to try out miui once it becomes available.

I like MIUI and can't wait to try on my nexus5!

I'd like to see this working, but the last phone I owned that had a fully functional, non-buggy MIUI rom was the Samsung Fascinate back in 2011. Every other phone I've owned since then (roughly 6-7 devices) have had buggy, incomplete and/or barely usable MIUI roms. As much as I hate to say it, I feel like MIUI's time has come and gone.

Hmm I never really ran into crazy bugs. The biggest issue is lack of device support, it can be a major pain the ass to get them to work on new devices.
It took forever for them to release for the nexus 4 but when they did it was pretty solid.
I hope they do release a build just so i can give it a shot, probably not a daily driver.
I have some bad news.
I'm a Chinese and I have talked with one of MIUI's employers this morning.
MIUI will officially support Nexus7(2013) running 4.4.X in the future but it will take a few months before official release. (I guess it's because of their MiPad)
Nexus 5 is not on the support list right now. (Sun Peng is always bluffing on Weibo) (And Nexus4's MIUI is supported by developers rather than MIUI)
MIUI will not release 4.4.x patchrom in the near future because only few devices running KitKat now.
So, I don't think there will be a MIUI patchrom for 4.4.X before Feb.

Yep, same here. I think the last bug free version of MIUI I ever experienced was the Virgin Mobile LG Optimus V, lol!
Then again, this is the first Nexus device I've owned after owning the S2 and S4, and I must say that this device is so much easier to mod than any other device, so we'll see.

True. Honestly though, even a perfect MIUI rom isn't going to have a place on my phone. It was great back in the Gingerbread days since stock Android wasn't really "there" yet, but I don't see what kind of advantage it could really offer over stock KitKat. In particular, I see the lack of an app drawer as a major hindrance at this point. My homescreen setup has gotten more and more efficient over the years (I'm down to 2 home screens + GNow). The last thing I want now is to have all of my apps puked out on a zillion homescreens and then try to organize it all. I realize I can use another launcher, but to me that kind of defeats the purpose of flashing MIUI in the first place.
Lets wait for it Tried miui v5 in htc desire S and it works great
And updates weekly is awesome.
had miui on htc desire, htc sensation, s2, didnt have official on nexus4....i cant imagine how good it will work on nexus 5
http://news.mydrivers.com/1/291/291827.htm might be the new look of miui v6 ...i know is just a concept but looks interesting

MIUI was amazing when everything was working and fully stable. I loved it to death on my HTC Evo 4g a couple years ago. It'll be a good multiboot rom
Miui on gingerbread was the really the best rom ever ...after ice cream miui is having trouble... But still like it

With note 2 miui was the only ROM that was lag free, especially when turning off the screen with CRT animation, it was the only ROM that was smooth...but not even comparable with stock n5

Ohh ok, well anyways now we are on the same boat waiting for miui on our loved nexus 5
I was thinking about this ROM earlier last week. Wouldn't mind test driving that UI on these cores.

I'm wondering if there's any aosp roms in development for the note been eagerly waiting for like a cm 12 rom or something but nothing yet. I'm seeing the galaxy s4,5 and note 3 getting their cm 12 roms so maybe the note 4 one soon comes?
Practically every device has it except us.
Developers are waiting until we get the Official 5.0 update to do any CM, AOSP, etc.
Aosp is booting on our device already. Its being fine tuned. Soon
Cant wait !!

As far as I know there aren't any threads. Slayher posted images of Lollipop running on the Note 4 a few weeks ago on Google+.
Yes can anyone let us know if this is happening?
I have a oneplus one right now... A little afraid to leave it behind and go to the note 4. I love having CM12 or AOSP on my phone... Don't know if I can go to touchwiz. lol!
I would love to say is jump on it but as always I'm sure the camera will be total crap as always. Absolutely kills the photo quality
He posted a video a couple days ago. Hold for links
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=57184749
And of course camera will just be basic, it's just the point of having the option to flash it is what I dig about samsung. I'm the minority Samsung fanboy, but doesn't mean I don't like some cm or aosp based Roms just to mix it up.
Ok - I'm not a big camera guy anyway... But it's a toss up between this or a nexus 6... But I love having a removable battery... The 1+1 just isn't cutting it for me right now...
I know how many people hate on touchwiz, but especially with this huge device it has some useful features. Is there, or has there been a port of touchwiz as a rom? AFAIK touchwiz is still on 4.4.4, but once it gets updated will there be a release as a rom?

Probably not. Touchwiz isn't open source, so making a port would take a lot of work. Also, even if it gets working the developer could get a cease and desist from Samsung.
In that past, there have been some custom ROMs that have some similar features that Touchwiz has in the past, like multi-window.
Why on earth would anyone put Touchwiz on a Nexus? That's like putting cheese wiz on caviar, how dare you! Multiwindow support would be cool but I am not willing to deal with Touchwiz for that feature.
I think I just puked a little. [emoji24]

I'm not going to tell you that TW doesn't have good features, but these can be added in with a much better light weight ROM than TW. Multi window isn't hard to add, we just need lollipop support for it unless Google makes their version official.

Android Police showed Google having multi window in lollipop (maybe 5.1?) It was a couple of months back I'm sure you could Google it. Also Paranoid Android should bring multi window if they build for the Nexus. In time it all come
Omni rom had a multi window feature as well.

My guess is that there will be thread for it, developers will try. Probably get it to boot with literally nothing working. And abandon. I have only seen one OEM proted to another which was they got a functional sense rom for Nexus s. I tried it out and it was very lagy then again the rom was like 3 years old, so who knows it could have been smooth back in the day before google made all kinds of changes to GPS. I have seen many try and port another OEM to another and pretty much ends with not barely booting rom if it even gets that far. I will welcome any oem rom that is functional but is likely not going to happen
there is a good features at samsung bloatware. I'm comming from Galaxy s5 and I miss some of them, like keyboard, camera app, dialer, weather and clock widget
It would be great to have it back

Its a shame there are no mods on XDA or apps in Play to replace the by you mentioned TW apps/widgets
The only thing i miss from the S6 wich i had for 3 days is the camera optics, the best phone camera around at this moment hands down.
and screen of course xD.....my s5 screen was better than nexus 5 lol....

I'm looking into getting the nexus 6 and was just trolling through the nex6 forums taking a look at developement..... And geeezzzz what happened to the names of ROMs like we had in the good ole days. I.e. OPEN KANG, CM-__, PACMAN, AOSP, NEXUQUE, PARANOID ANDROID, MIUI. You know the names we all were used to seeing. Now it seems like the names are all spoken in code or something. Check out the screen shot. Hard to tell what you're getting unless you go exploring each ROM post and check out the mods and screenshots.
You're right.
We GFlex users that haven't flashed any roms in a while when you get another phone you get scared from all these new roms with weird names. You gotta check every post to see if its based on stock/aosp/cm/pac or if its just a debloated rom. Info is just not as it used to be.

Yep the days of bootstrap recoveries and safestrap are gone. I fear that fastboot will soon fall by the way side too, with all these devices comimg with download mode and flashing with lg tools and Odin. Im going back to Motorola to get a taste of the good ole fastboot flash system ".......". My nexus 7 (2013) is so simple with multi-rom that I rarely need to open up the cmd prompt and " adb " anything.
Wait!!!
Are we giving up on this incredible phone?
I can't speak for anyone else but I've been eligible for an upgrade for over a year now, and have been sticking around 1. Cuz I do like the phone / durability. And 2. To help out and hopefully see a CM or AOSP ROM working on this device. But I gotta see what all the hype is about with these new snapdragon 64 bit processors and 4 gigs or ram is all about. I'm really trying to be patient and wait on the new nexus 6.2 as I heard it called. Not sure if that's the official name. Its all still rumors I believe. But its supposedly the next version of nexus 6 but 64 bit. To keep up with Samsung and lg's release of 64 bit devices.

I heard there will be a revamp of the Nexus 5 device...
Supossedly LG and Huawei were in dispute to seek for who wins the making of the ¨second gen Nexus 5¨
This would be awesome, though I love my GFlex cuz of battery life and durability too, my G3 just died on me last week :crying: :crying: havent revived it so, Im back with the Flex, hope to see a CM or AOSP build sooner than later.
Good luck with the Motorolas, I´ve had nothing more than great experience with motorola smartphones, owned Atrix 1, 2 and HD, Droid XT912 and Droid HD, awesome phones all of them!
OK maybe its the nexus 5 revamp and not nexus 6. I could have been wrong. Either way , pure aosp on a nexus device sure would be nice. I rarely get to play around with my nexus 7 (2013) since its been integrated into my dash and used as my head unit now. It comes out once a month or so just to flash an update or new ROM to keep things running smooth.

I'm considering buying a Galaxy S6. I've barely even used android, but I hate touchwiz already. I hate it for one main reason, the notification tray. I cannot stand that at all. I've looked into a some options for removing touchwiz, such as running an AOSP based rom, but that apparently isn't going to be supported for a while. Is there anyway to get the notification tray to look like a nexus device where a double swipe will get you the toggles? I am currently using an iPhone that has been jailbroken, and have been playing with the SDK. I don't really have a problem building AOSP from source, as long as its relatively simple. If it is not really possible for an AOSP rom to be built on my own, what would an eta be on a AOSP rom for it be?
Click to collapse
I don't know of any way to change the notification tray unless you install an AOSP ROM. Which doesn't exist right now. Change home launcher? Of course. Notification tray. Nope lol
Building AOSP from source would be a big challenge as Samsung is known for not providing proper documentation for its Exynos processors. This was the case till the last one, i.e. Exynos 5433. Not sure how it is now. Touchwiz provides a lot of theming options which changes the notification tray.
Please play with one of the phones at a store before considering buying it. Buying it to run AOSP ROMS might be a futile exercise as of now.

The g3 broke my flashing addiction so thats no longer a issue for me but I still want to tweak the ui without heavy modding, Samsung us going to give us that option. They have a theming program that will support the s6 this summer. Maybe hold out until that is released and see what it can and cannot do before you commit to a device.
