Trying to root my S5 Active. Brand new, Odin failed and Towelroot did not work either. Any ideas?
Soooo, I assume there is no way to root the S5 Active.
Check the general section, theres a thread, you need to odin a lowet firmware i believe.

I tried to root my phone using Kingo. After it was done and i rebooted i tried to check it with the root checker application.
All i get is this message: SuperSU has been forced to stop for an unauthorized attempt to acces system in your device.
The root check application just seems to freeze and nothing happens.
What went wrong?

This is the forum for the S4 Active, which is a very different forum than the regular S4, so first off make sure you are posting in the proper forum. Second, Kingo is not used to root the S4 Active, there are threads in the development forum that explain how to root both the AT&T i537 and the international i9295. Finally, if you do indeed have an S4 Active more information is needed; explain the steps you used to root and whether you have the AT&T version or the international version.

You could always Odin to 4.4.2 NC2 (official).

Will I be able to do that? I think 4.3 was the highest update for my device.
And will I still be able to root without tripping Knox if I update to NC2?
And how do I proceed about updating to 4.4.2?
NC2 is the latest firmware for the N900A. It is rootable using TowelRoot without tripping Knox. Are you familiar with how to use Odin?

Yeah I am sort of familiar with Odin.
I got this Note 3 2 days ago and rooted it for the first time but I softbricked it deleting some bloatware so I am still a novice at the rooting scene but I am slowing learning.
I managed to fix the softbrick but now I get this message.

From this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2786043
Should I follow these instructions?
Coming From MJ5/Bootloader A2/ to get NC2 Stock Rom / DK 4.2 /Or any Custom KK running....
1 download and install the leaked KitKat (this will keep your bootloader)
then after your rom boots , skip through the setup.
2. install NC2 kernel (so Towel Root will work)
3. install towel root
4. install busybox
5 install safestrap and install recovery
6. boot to recovery and install KK 4.4.2
I wouldn't bother with it unless you ever want to downgrade back to MJ5. I'd go through the link I posted, and after finishing, I'd go into the stock recovery and do a factory reset to avoid any conflict with any leftover Jellybean stuff.

I would upgrade to nc2 there were some serious issues with the gps on mj5 and mlg

If you want to keep your A2 bootloader which would keep the option of downgrading open (if I understand it correctly) then go through the process you asked about. If not you can Odin to NC2 which will upgrade your bootloader to A3.

okay, I updated to NC2 and updated the baseband too.
The message now says "Android is upgrading..." and it is optimizing apps.
Now I should just factory reset through recovery mode right and root after?

Yes. The factory reset just prevents any conflicts. After the reset you can root using TowelRoot.

okay, I rooted it using TowelRoot.
I installed binaries using Normal.
Should I disable Knox?
Yes, it keeps you from getting those nagging messages about apps trying to access system.

Few days ago I bought the Samsung Galaxy S5 G900A unlocked. There was Android 5.0 preinstalled whith baseband vOC4! I tried to make the downgrade to 4.4.2 because of the root, and always gettin the brick. Saw the post about flasjing G900A_OC4_Stock_Partitions and it helped me a lot with unbricking! I tried all the ways of downgrades: recovery ZIP update (including OC4 firmware w/ OA1 bootloader) , ODIN flashing different stock roms, custom roms, kernels etc. Can I make a downgrade with that baseband? I've read somewhere that it's impossible to do in this case...
Really confused now after all this.
No need for confusion. There is no way known to humanity that will allow you to downgrade from 5.0 to anything else.

ODIN back to OC4 to unbrick and remember; if you can't root you, can't do anything but wait for root or buy a different model phone.
ODIN back to OC4?
There is no way at this time to ODIN back to OC4, OA1, or whatever.
There is only a ".exe" file for OC4.

similar situation
Hello guys,
my situation is quite similar to the posters one. i've bought the S5 active (AT&T) with some custom TMS5 rom, when i boot i sie unlocked lock icon.
the version is 5.0: the kies is showing info like: G900FXXU1BOC7/G900AATT3BOC4/G870AUCU1BOC5/G900FXXU1BOC7 (ATT)
the question is can i get somehow to the STOCK firmware? maybe upgrading to the 5.1.1 will get rid of this "custom stuff"?
if so, what's the best way to do it?
I purchased a new G870A Galaxy S5 Active this week, which was preloaded with OC5 (5.0, Lollipop) firmware. I was able to root the device by downgrading to 4.4.2; the guide here was very helpful: http://www.droidviews.com/update-att-galaxy-s5-active-to-lollipop-root-it-and-enable-wifi-tethering/
The exact procedure I used:
1. Flash NE4 firmware with Odin (The latest heimdall from git didn't work; I had to boot Windows 7 and install Odin & Samsung USB drivers)
2. Reboot the phone in recovery (power+volume up+home). Use the options to clear cache & reset to factory default
3. Reboot the phone normally. It might appear bricked & take up to 5 minutes to get past the AT&T logo.
4. Root with Towelroot
5. Follow the instructions on the linked page to install pre-rooted OF3 (Lollipop) firmware and the OC5 bootloader.
6 (important). Kill OTA updates by renaming /etc/security/otacerts.zip & /system/priv-app/wssyncmldm and then rebooting. Delete anything in /data/fota for good measure. (Use your favorite root-enabled file explorer or shell.)
Note that this will not work if the phone has received OTA updates beyond OC5. See this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/att...w-to-update-to-g870aoc5-5-0-keeproot-t3083841
Hey guys!
I'm trying to root my "Samsung Galaxy S5 Active" - "G870A-0F2" - "5.0"
I know that there is no current root for 0F2, So I am trying to Downgrade my phone, I downloaded the stock firmware "NE4", Put it in AP for Odin, & I keep getting a FAIL. Any help would be awesome! How can I Downgrade my 0F2 Firmware.

Hello,
After doing some research I've found this thread mentioning a user with the same phone model (G870A) that successfully downgraded from 5.0 to 4.4.2.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=64386453&postcount=8
However, I think he was using a different bootloader version, which may be older than yours, and may also explain why he succeeded and you didn't.
The user posted a tutorial link and step-by-step instructions in the thread I linked above. I thought maybe it could help you.
**EDIT: original firmware for G870A can be found in this thread (filename is "G870AUCU1ANE4_Full_Odin.tar")

**EDIT 2: You may be in luck! This very kind user has posted more info about downgrading from 5.0 to KitKat (4.4.x):

Good luck !
Hi all
I have been trying to root my phone but I think I bought the most annoying phone to root. I hit a wall on every direction so far, from what I can understand, rooting for the new version of android is hard enough but the active is somehow more difficult than the regular galaxy s5. I have been told to downgrade using odin but I will need to get the matching older version of baseband and kernel. I'm not sure if this is what I need or even where to find them. Have anyone rooted a galaxy s5 active recently? any suggestion would help.
Thank you so much.
nvm sorry for the post..... this phone has no hope..
