Just noticed Google released an Update to 26653 for CCast...
Not sure what they added but I noticed it on my other non-rooted CCast.
Yes, I have it. But I don't know what's new.
Lets hope it doesn't have the usual breakage that past Google Updates have brought! LOL
I have it since Friday. Nobody knows what brings yet. Incredible, but every time a new version is released, the changeling is first published on Wikipedia, in Google Chromecast Article, but, as I said above, there are interrogations because is a misterious. Also, I don't know why they de-activated the option to send the serial number when searching updates.
The only info I found was in this link:
https://productforums.google.com/forum/#!topic/chromecast/bKISMl5AOTs
Hi everyone,
A new year, a new Chromecast release! 25525 is rolling out to devices over the next week or so with improvements to guest mode, audio output, and HDMI. In addition, there are bug fixes and stability improvements.
As always, we’re looking to improve Chromecast and would love to hear your feedback and any issues you’re seeing with 25525.

Valentine's Day Special in the US. Got $6 credit on each of my Chromecasts. They've pretty much paid for themselves now.
I have had the update for a bit (cannot remember when I first saw it) and everything seems to work properly.
Granted, I have been lucky and only experienced an issue once post a Chromecast update, so take whatever I say with a grain of salt.

I got the iOS Chromecast app update at about the same time so I'm not sure which update added this new behavior. But you can finally enable guest mode on iOS. Perhaps the firmware update enabled this for iOS?

That won't kill me though since I usually add an AAC 5.1 and AAC stereo track to all the movies in my library.

I got the Android 3.1 update OTA this morning on my Stock Wi-Fi Xoom in the US. The update went through with no problems, but now I have just noticed that the Google "Videos" App for renting movies is no where to be found. I've looked in the Market as well and couldn't find it.
Any ideas as to why it isn't on my Xoom and how I could get it? Thanks.

I guess that is the problem. I don't see a Video/Movie app anywhere in my app list. Any idea as to why or where I can download it from?
Nvm, I checked other Xoom forums, including Motorola's forum, and have seen that the missing Videos app is a widespread problem, mostly on Wi-Fi Xooms. Hope Moto/Google fix this fast, I was hoping to rent a video for a trip I'm going on this weekend.
EDIT: Here is a quote from a forum manager over at Motorola:
"The rollout to Wifi users has started -- obviously -- but the Movies function won't be available from Google at rollout. Google is saying in the near future. My personal opinion only is that means probably two or three weeks, but again, that's just my opinion."
Well this stinks. Don't see any reason why they delayed movies for us Wi-Fi people.

It seems like if you got 3.1 OTA, then no Google Movies. If you upgraded another way, then you likely have it.

Sounds like it's already there, but just with no way to access it.
i think that the video app is there bc when i go to tegra zone to watch a video on upcoming games i have to choose between Video player or another video app i have installed. im gonna try the video apk thing and see if it works.

I'd like to start a thread for news/rumors of more officially supported services.
Not casting web-pages, or demo Apps/Hacks, but Official Apps from other services that support Chromecast.
Any hope?
well hulu and pandora is confirmed, but the main problem right now is the SDK isn't complete (they have a preview one out though).
Once the SDK is done we will start seeing a lot of content I bet.
I am looking forward to bitcasa support. That will be awesome.

I hope so - I think this is the first step of moving away from Broadcast TV for TV entertainment. This is the revolution that Apple had planned to do but didn't. When people do reviews of the Cast I think they miss the largest point. Controlling the content using an interface we all love (phone or tablet) is a giant step forward. Using the built in smart features of a TV or DVD to search for a YouTube video is a terrible experience. You need a link to find most things and those are shared in communication links in your phone.

Ya i thought that is what you were talking about, what else the chromecast will be able to do. Its confirmed it will be able to use hulu and pandora should be comming kinda soon. And HBO, Vimeo, Redbox Instant, Vevo (?), Devour (?), Blip (?) (maybe these are britsh or something, i've never heard of them), have all mentioned they are planning on it.
(where I got the information)
http://gigaom.com/2013/08/01/blip-hulu-vevo-and-devour-are-coming-to-chromecast/

http://www.ign.com/articles/2013/07/30/redbox-instant-and-vimeo-coming-to-chromecast
So ya in total we have
right now
youtube
netflix
google play music
google play video
soon
hulu
pandora
HBO go
announced support
Vimeo
Redbox Instant
Vevo
Devour
Blip
plus soon we get the official sdk and we will get 100s of apps I bet
Hulu said they were interested in adding it some day. I wouldn't be expecting it anytime soon. The only real partner besides Netflix announced at launch was Pandora. My guess is Pandora will release an update about the same time the final SDK is released. Google is probably working with Pandora as sort of a beta test of the SDK.

Can't wait.
This app is now available in Apple Store:
https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/rplay/id692511073?ls=1&mt=8
I submitted an app to Apple store, called rPlay, which does Chromecast emulation. The app is being reviewed right now. Here is the description:
"rPlay tunrs your iPhone/iPad/iPod into a chromecast device, so you can stream music and video from another device using chromecast enabled apps, such as YouTube and Google Music, etc. You can in turn stream from your iOS device to your Apple TV, this way, you can stream chromecast media to your Apple TV."
I hope Apple can approve this FREE app.
It supports YouTube/GoogleMusic/Custom Apps, chrome tab browsing is not there yet due to the lack of features in Safari browser.
This is a YouTube video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x4urxecUbAk
Some screenshots are attached:
We will also release a Windows and Android version soon. On non-iOS platforms, rPlay is much more than ChromeCast, it also has AirPlay/AirPlay Mirroring, and upcomping Miracast emulation, etc.
Some screenshots for the Windows version, will be freely available, most likely next week or two.
Windows version supports AirPlay Mirroring, ChromeCast (YouTube/Google Music/Browser Tab mirroring/Custom Apps), etc.
Can't wait. Sounds awesome!!

Do you mean netfix chromecasting?
This is not easy, unless netflix app is available on that platform, and assuming it takes the same parameters as the netflix version on the real chromecast device. We will definitely give it a try.

I will post the .ipa file here soon for people with jailbreak devices if not approved.
A quick update: back and forth a few times, the app was rejected, and I had to make some modifications, now re-submitted, and waiting for review again.

lol, I actually thought his comment was funny and should be taken less seriously. "Lighten up Francis".
Personally, I don't mind $35 for this device in its current state, but I can understand others' frustration. It's not free like many beta programs AND it's intentionally crippled (I understand why, not that I fully agree, but that's just my opinion).
YouTube... eh...
Netflix... seems like everything I like isn't available on streaming
Google Music... inefficient; other easier, simpler ways to play music on speakers, lol.
Personal movie collection and family videos... would be nice... patiently waiting...
My chromecast is on its way. My living room is already a media paradise though. Ps3 and Xbox and bluray player can all stream personal videos and downloads and Netflix. Being in Canada it cost me like $75 when all was said and done to get my chromecast which is way less functional than anything I already have. I can stream any music I want through my surround sound from my nexus 7 or 4 even my chromebook or PC with Bluetooth. And of all that fails for some reason the HDMI cable coming from my PC can do all of that media stuff very efficiently. So why did I spend all that money on a chromecast, well I don't know. But I can't wait to find out what this thing will be able to do eventually after the nerds get SDK accessibility. The future is bright my friends. Let's just hope its not a flop like Google TV. But I think they learned a valuable lesson there.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 4
I too am looking forward to when it can do more. Wonder what challenges they are facing to get the SDK finalized etc.
For someone living in a smaller space like myself its great to have the combo of all access and the ability to control your music in the living room from the bed room. The best part about this over google tv...this was only $35, minimal investment.

Amen.
I feel the real issue isn't that it's beta/1st gen, we aren't talking about "bugs" here. The issue is this, if the SDK is still in beta, and we can't know its capabilities until that's done, then don't issue an "update" breaking it's current capabilities. Everyone was happy with what it could do while the SDK was still in beta, but then they "updated" it to remove nearly all of its functionality, while still not providing the final SDK and capabilities. This is akin to buying a 1st gen car, then the dealer says "we are going to release new ECU software that will change the way is works soon, but for now, we are going to make it only go 15MPH until we can release that software.

Google is trying to get more media providers to sign on. No one wants to sign on for a payed service on a "hackable" device. I don't see this device being "open" for a while yet, but with the popularity of the device we can only hope media providers sign on and add content and functionality to the device the right way before it gets all hacked up and no companies want to touch it

The Chromecast simply receives the command from your device of PC to play whatever you have access to from that said device. It's not like having the Chromecast will allow you to watch fee Netflix. Many companies have already said that Chromecast support is in the world.

It was a joke, you speedbumps.
It occurs to me that Chromecast was released on July 24th, 2013 with (at least for early adopters) 3 months of free Netflix. I always figured that those 3 months were to help compensate for the fact that there is not much you can do with it yet.
Many of us know by know that the Nexus 5 is expected to launch by the end of October. Maybe it's not at all coincidental that this will be around the same time that all the free 3-month Netflix trials expire.
So yeah, anyone else think/hope that we're going to hear something big for Chromecast at the same announcement where they launch the Nexus 5?
I'd like it to come to Canada already.
Sent from my GT-N7100 using Tapatalk
Lots of people already have it in Canada, and it works just fine within the content geo-blocking restrictions (Netflix Canada, no Hulu+ or Google Play). Those restrictions won't change when it's officially released for sale in Canada. In any case, there are no technical issues to resolve before releasing it for sale in Canada - it's just a supply problem keeping it restricted to U.S. sales at the moment.
I'd rather see Google put more priority on upgrading the poorly-peforming Beta tab casting software before pushing it out to world release.
I was hoping that maybe the API for third party apps would finally open up to work with consumer devices. But maybe that's to optimistic for Google.
Or, at minimum, maybe they'd announce a whole whack of new compatible apps.

The DIAL protocol used by Chromecast was jointly developed by Netflix and YouTube (and YouTube is Google, obviously).
I think the promotion was to aid in the adoption of Chromecast by new Netflix owners.
Not an apology in the sense of, oh well you can't do much - but an incentive, for what it was at face value.
And the Netflix 3 month pass wasn't just for early adopters - the allotment of those freebies ran out on day 1 of sales.
Few people got in on that.

Nope.
We need a final, not beta, Chromecast SDK. That will allow more apps and if done soon - as in real soon - then they can consider some Chromecast promo for the holidays and have the advantage of buzz in the press over the new apps.
Google just rebranded Google TV as Android TV this past week.
Looks like they're still working at making a rational, cohesive marketing statement on where they stand with TV to me.

Glad to hear someone somewhere is working on something. We've gone nowhere but backwards for the last several months. Makes you wonder what their devlopers can have been up to all this time.
No mention of when the SDK might be released? They have been promising this since the start. Weren't they actually boasting about how quick and easy it would be for developers to get their apps tailored for Chromecast? So where's the code, boys? IMO it's more apps that are needed not poor quality streaming from our phones .

Google never said anything about the SDK being released. That was all speculation. The unfortunate part is the Chromecast will never be a completely open sourced product. I have a feeling it will remain mostly locked down as they are aiming it as a mainstream device. Not a developers toy.

Hmmm, well I'm certain I read there was an SDK released to developers at the time the Chromecast itself was released but it was limited to "preview " form for exploration and testing purposes. What would be the point of that if Google did not intend one day to release a full (though not necessarily public) SDK for these guys to get their apps to market?
I have it in Canada and with a few hacks I am able to use Google All Access Music from Canada. Thanks to a Pre Paid Visa and a VPN but this not the way it should be. I even set up a Hulu Plus Account but decided Netflix was fine.

So presumably there have been plenty of companies out there who have been preparing apps for the day Google gives them the nod and releases the the code that will allow them to run their work on non-whitelisted devices.
Some, yeah.
Vbukit has an interesting offering in the works. Remote Cast - I'm looking forward to that advancing.
No idea on others. I'm content to wait and see. Vudu is on my wish list.
The defects list is publicly available. I'd hope that those get sorted as well, prior to the release of a lot of apps.
