I don't know if this is exactly the right place for this however I love this phone but there seems to be no support for modified kernels. Without a modified kernel it seems that adjusting the CPU frequency seems to be overwritten everytime on a rooted phone. I took a crash course in creating a kernel and implementing a few changes and I am currently running it on my phone now once it last a day or two I might go ahead and put it up here so that people can actually try it out. But in the meantime I will host how I was able to get the frequency scaling to work and increase the battery life while still making it very responsive. Unfortunately it will have to wait until I get home because I am at work however I am very happy with what I have done and it seems to be the fastest I have got this phone to go and still ridiculous battery life, it even seems a little snappier than my brothers galaxy note 4. Stay tuned for instruction
Looking forward to this man, thanks.

How did you get it loaded without a custom recovery and a locked bootloader?

ok first unless you somehow have the much sought after keys to unlock the bootloader you DID NOT FLASH ANY CUSTOM KERNEL to an AT&T G870A
or
You do not have a G870A but rather an international or otherwise version of the phone.

That's because there won't be a custom kernel for the Active or the G900A

The question is:
"What apps are you guys running to push your phone to the limits?
Simple, running Quadrant ... all day long. Just for the kick of it
For me this is the best free up grade ever. Feel like a new phone!
Any apps that use to run a bit slow just fly! Notably the new 1.3.1 facebook and layar.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
I just listen to the MP3 player for 8.5hrs a day all that speed & power & I do squat with it, but its nice to have a fluid phone with zero lag.
I just enjoy a lag free phone.
I put stuff on my home pages, and scroll left and right a lot.
Anybody know any more pretty widgets I can add?
im getting around 2700, with the new lagfix and overclocking cpu
This question really reminds me of computer overclocking community when we had high-scores of benchmark programs and people asked us what we do with our pc.
I just do email-check, surf, watch video clips while I'm outside, Remote Desktop, SSH, keep sliding my homescreens & app drawer(lol), play games and a lot more of things.
And sure, now I'm happy that I picked the right smartphone from mobile store. Feel like it's getting better and better and I think it's not I9000's limit yet, let's think about Froyo with this kind of fix and there maybe another fix or something that would make us more happy. It's worth every penny thanks to people who made these things happen.
All this even before Froyo 2.2 is out. Simply Amazing.
I'm just having a grand old time flying by screens and giggling like a little girl
WTF i only scored 877
not even a 1000!
The lag fix is great...I can only really get up to 1800, but hey...I'm not about to complain now, am I?

Guess you smoke the right stuff!
with 2.3.4 Quadrant scores are touching 1800-2000 with stock...
I use music player + MusixFX eq effects to pimp my sound all the time
I'm with 2.3.4 with CF root and i got this score, not bad
I'm on 2.3.4 too.
And with the right Rom and Kernel you can get this. 3707
Rom and Kernel used in my signature, but sorry you can't get it here.

Yes I recently switched to 2.3.4 and installed CF root (enabled ext4) and have the same score!
I recently flashed CM10, and it seems to be working perfectly fine. Keyboards, home and search buttons, Gapps all good. However, when installing the most recent Adobe Flash APK, the problems are glaring. While it does work, the video is severely choppy, Flash Adverts get blended into other Flash running panels, creating a stripped pattern everywhere. It's just a total mess. I've tried running it on Firefox with similar results, and Chrome rejects it entirely.

Ah. Makes Sense (pun intended.) Well, hope someone fixes this issue, and an official CM ROM comes out instead of a nightly.

Yeah, I did realize that, but I figured that someone would've discovered the issue and found a way since I expected that the issue lied in the ROM and not the CM itself, but I guess not. I'm just going to stick with a stock ROM then, until someone makes an ICS ver. of CM. for Vivid.

In my experience... if there is something you wanna find that requires flash... there is usually an iOS friendly version... because all must bow down...

hey guys,
So I got this phone and as I'm not a fan of the sense 5.0 I installed the GE from this topic here
HTML:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2341395
I noticed that the battery was really really bad in this rom.
I was just wondering what is a good stable rom that is battery friendly. I'm not really a gamer so i don't need to worry about maxing out my specs.
Also I understand that there is no best rom I am just looking for the views of other people.
And a recommendation in kernel would be nice too.

test test test and retest Oh and some battery logs would be nice to just say you had bad battery tells us nothing
I use Android Revolution 11.5 with ElementalX kernel.
I lost 1% battery over night. Battery lasts about 30 hours with my usage profile. Give it a try...

I use ViperOne 1.1.1 with Bulletproof Kernel (HTC Battery Saver On).
Battery life is amazing. Can usw my One about two days until i have to charge it.:good:
One more vote for ARHD, really awesome battery life. Currently I'm running TrickDroid 8.0 and overnight I lost 11% while on ARHD it was 2% only. Plus, on TD8 I feel some nasty scrolling lag.
You realise that this thread will just end up a long list of different rom/kernel combinations? Which emphasises the fact that different people will recommend different combinations depending on their usage. The only way to know for yourself is to test them yourself - I know you will read that everywhere, but only because it's true.

Maybe give 'greenify' a try independent of ROM.

When I received my one via ups I was so excited I turned it right on and activated it was that a bad idea? Should I had charged it first before turning on? I allowed it to die completely before the first charge my battery is alright I'm just wondering should I be getting better results? Also my phone shuts down on random and I have to hold volume down and power to reboot doesn't even go to bootloader. So I ran a ruu and now on complete stock to see if the issue goes away. I was also s off with revone I reverted back to s on before the ruu though I'm wondering is the shutting down have to do with me not charging and damaging the battery, the s off, or hardware. I'm hoping it was just a bad root so I dont have to swap phones anyone have any ideas?

I think we all understand it's best to find out for your self what the BEST ROM/KERNEL is. I think that some of of just like to see what everybody is using and how it is working for them in real world. I hate how alot of people in these threads are so reluctant to give out any info on what they are personally using.

i've been reading quite a bit and seems like there's more pros than cons or is it just me i root my first GN4 and the first problem was the WiFi calling not working then i read people saying that S-health was also not working so i check and yes it was not working
then i read some post's about not receiving MMS and guess what i check and is not working
so what is it about this device , Im guessing that maybe this brick is just to much for the developers in here or its just a POS
that noone wants to fnck with it
well if anyone in here has the GN4 rooted and is fully working with no problem just let me know so i can try once again

I read what you wrote, but it makes no sense LOL. I have ONLY rooted and everything works just fine here. Actually use S-Health often, sent MMS today and have WiFi Calling right now as I type this! Might wanna try again, or maybe its just YOUR brick GN4
Edit: ALSO... Trust me its "not too much for the devs here". We have GREAT Devs but people that couldn't beat themselves out of a wet paper bag are killing XDA because they seem Entitled! .. I appreciate the fact you've been reading but no need to quietly insult any devs because you're having issues. I say try again. MANY peoples phones work flawless

Just did a client's phone.
Running firekat v11x.
It's a good rom to start with.
Flawless.
I've been rooted literally since the first day I got the phone, and then rooted my wife's the next day.
No problems on either phone. They've actually been honestly the best phones we've ever had as a whole.
Perhaps you just need to understand what it is you're doing a little better before you dive in.

All of the issues you described have nothing to do with root. Mostlikely it is becuase of the software you are running. Install a custom recovery (TWRP) and then flash Firkat v11 or DKat, and all of those feature should be working.
What build are you on? Setting > About device > Build number.
My guess is that the files you used were for the original build and not for the current build. That is the only time i have see issues come up and can always be fixed by flashing a ROM built for the newest NK4 basband.

I ****ing knew it
This is great news! I've always has awful battery life on lolipop and kitkat so hopefully marshmallow will improve things. As far as root goes, you should just be able to flash TWRP than systemless SuperSU or a modified boot image.
Wow! I'm so excited for this! The first thing I'm going to do is apply the work around for adoptive storage hehe

I am not sure in what way the Knox system prevents you from doing anything to your device. The Knox does not prevent you from rooting the device, installing TWRP, or from flashing roms. Samsung often calls Knox the "warranty bit", but that's a bull name that has no legal meaning.
I'm happy to hear that the marshmallow update is coming to this tablet. I have the 32gb version and I really like it. I had the nexus 7 2013 before this and tried some other tablets that have the marshmallow update like the Nvidia shield but I enjoy this tablet more. Coupled with a 128GB SD Card, I have a plethora of movies and books on it.
