Same here. I think Android is programmed in a way that the stock apps like messaging' and voice call 'app' would light up the screen and all the third party apps like you mentioned would just ring or vibrate and not light up the screen.. this is my wild guess though
But there must be some settings, if not a mod to change this..

I don't think my lock screen is working correctly. I have is set to no pin or password but once I wake the screen with the power button if I tap anywhere on the screen it unlocks. Previously on Sense you need to drag the lock or an icon into a ring on the screen. Is this how its supposed to happen now?

I would go into your sellings > lock screen and see if the quick launch apps are disabled. That's the only thing that comes to mind :fingers-crossed:
I can remember watching a video on YouTube about HTC tips and tricks or something and one if the things the guy was showing was the ability to unlock the phone from anywhere in the screen, I actually liked the idea if this however on mine you have to drag the lock item up.

He said to just swipe up to unlock. It didn't sound as if there was any setting that had to be changed.
Well it dose not work that way on mine, I have to grab the lock or one of the shortcuts.

Mine, I just swipe anywhere and it unlocks.
swipe anywhere on the clock and it unlocks. swiping on the upper area does not work
Mine only unlocks if I do it on the clock or shortcut or notification area

I've tried all the settings I could find but can't seem to stop it unlocking just by a touch.

I'm no expert, but that sounds like a screen/digitiser issue.

Have you tried a restore?
Also, try going to a long-ish website on it (or something else that you can scroll through) then just tap once at around the same place as the lock-clock would be, see what happens when you do that.
The single touch unlock seems to be caused by services activated under the "accessibility settings" (German: "Eingabehilfe"). This concerns Tasker, Lightflow etc. Set these to off and you need to swype to unlock.

I'm sure it's not your digitizer. It's the settings. This used to happened on my htc hd2 as well sometimes. I don't remember the settings of sense but if you do not find them just restore it to factory settings and it should be fine.

You're absolutely right. Thanks for solving this mystery for me.
I received my One today and at some point during the installation of my apps started experiencing the same problem: the lock screen unlocked with a single touch instead of a swipe. Turns out its normal function returns when I switch off all accessibility services.
Which is annoying, because I need those accessibility settings for Tasker and for my Pebble. I wish HTC made this a separate option instead of assuming that as soon as you activate one accessibility option, you must be physically unable to move your thumb accross the screen... :-/
It's not just that the lock screen doesn't really lock anymore; in the "productivity" setup, I can't swipe beyond the first calendar entry because it disappears at the first touch. I really hope HTC fixes this in an update soon.

I am having the same problem. This issue occurs also when you have to turn Accessibility Service on for apps like "Notify me" etc. The lockscreen unlocks with every single touch...
Does someone have a solution for this?
Thanks in advance
I've opened a support ticket yesterday on htc.com and described the issue. Haven't heard back from them yet, but it's weekend of course.
Maybe if we all contact support they'll become aware of the issue and we'll get a solution sooner?
Got a reply today:
Thank you for your email regarding your HTC device. Unfortunately we dont know what 3rd party apps will do to the phone and therefore we cant support 3rd party apps. If you dont like the fact that your screen can be unlocked by a single touch i would advise you to remove the 3rd party app(s) or talk to the developer of those apps. If you have any further questions you can reply to this email.

So I wrote back:
Hello,
I wouldn't say those third party apps are responsible. They require accessibility services for certain features, but they do not in themselves affect the lock screen behaviour.
I believe it is the HTC Sense software that automatically (and unnecessarily) sets the lock screen to open at a single touch when any accessibility setting is used. I understand this issue cannot be solved at the moment, but I do hope a future update will introduce the option for the user to choose the lock screen behaviour himself.

What kind of customer support is that
The bloke is basically washing his f*cking hands of it, what a joke.
This is p1ss poor it really is.... might have to see if there's another possible lockscreen i can use, i wouldnt mind so much but if my phone rings in my pocket its game over, picks it up without me even getting a chance to answer it

A part solution is widget locker ...... not as pretty as stock lock screen but at least functional whilst you have this problem ....

Tiny call confirm is your friend. Puts a lock on the screen, tap it then answer, works like a dream
I know all this is a pain in the backside, but in the meantime it's an answer to the problems we're facing at the moment

Basically, yeah...
Thanks for the tips -- didn't know about the second one yet.
I'm a bit surprised there aren't more people reporting this problem. A lot of forum users here must be using Tasker, I can imagine, and have its accessibility service enabled, and therefore must experience the same lock screen defect. It's the only thing that really bothers me about this phone (apart from the fact that Zoe is practically unusable with Dropbox auto upload).
I don't know what I did, but now, every time I get a text my phone says "So-and-so sent you a text, say "listen" to read aloud". How the heck do I disable this? It's driving me crazy because interrupts my music and I don't need it - this is what text notifications are for.

There's a bug in Moto Assist that enables driving mode sometimes while not driving. If you don't use it while driving, you'd be better off just disabling the driving assist module altogether.
Funny, I can't get mine to read texts and I have it enabled.

Same, so I just disabled all the active stuff on the phone.
It would say "text fro" and cut off, never saying who. I'd say Listen and the device would recognize it, then it wouldn't actually play the msg out loud.

1. Open the Moto Assist app
2. Click the card for "Driving", it expands the card to show you two checkbox options
3. Uncheck "talk to me" to disable completely. Or click the gray arrow next to the text to open more settings for talk-back.
I tried searching for this issue but I am not finding anything. After updating to Android 4.4, I am having some kind of texting issue about 50% of the time. What happens is, I am typing a text message in landscape mode and I hit send and nothing happens. I flip the phone and when it goes into portrait mode, the text area goes black (keyboard is still active at the bottom of the screen). I also cannot backspace in the message. All 3 of these effects happen together as a result of some weird glitch. I can hit the home button, then go back into that text thread and there's no draft saved. The second attempt is always successful. This only happens in text messaging. I'm using the standard built-in keyboard and I do not have Google Hangouts linked to my text messaging. I have no idea how to fix this. Any help is appreciated.

T-Mobile HTC One 4.4 texting issues after update
I am also having texting problems too after the update. I still text using "phone" which is the old school flip phone t9 method. Several major and annoying problems have occurred after the update. First issue, auto space is forced and can't be turned off so after making up words or trying to add punctuation it will put a space and I have to back up and erase the space. The other issue is some simple words like "go" and "am" won't generate when trying to create the words using t9 also known as "phone"
I need this problem resolved or I will go nuts
I am having FCs when opening messages

T-Mobile HTC 4.4 update issues
I don't want to have to download 3 party texting applications when the stock HTC texting app is perfectly fine up until this defective 4.4 update.
They said some people were experiencing issues. I just suggested using a third party until an update either for the phone or the individual app comes out.

if a factory reset doesnt help only your carrier can help
Well, I did a factory reset and it was good for a couple of days and now it's starting to do the same thing again. Any other ideas? Do I have to talk to Verizon and/or HTC now? I've had the phone for about 5 months now. I feel like if I could just reinstall the 4.4 update that would fix the issue.
When in either landscape or portrait mode, there is no send button. Must be in portrait with the keyboard activated to see the send button. Saw a post on the SwiftKey site but it happens no matter what keyboard I use.

I have noticed this issue for awhile now. Attempted to rollback to a previous messaging version but could not get it to work. Wouldn't surprise me if this was Google's way of forcing people onto Hangouts.

I did notice that this only happened on Google Keyboard. When I switch back to the stock HTC keyboard, the Send button appears in Portrait and Lanscape.
