There are lots of different types of unlocked, unlocked as in you paid for the phone and can use any SIM card in it.
Unlocked as in dev edition
Unlocked as in your bootlkader is unlocked.
However, if your boot loader says locked at the moment and you have never unlocked it then leave it like that until you've got lollipop on there, because as soon as you unlock it you won't be able to get updates anymore without quite a big fight, including a custom recovery.

you don't need a locked/relocked bootloader to install ota updates even if s-on. It will install fine even if the bootloader is unlocked. What is important is 100% stock /system partition and /data/preload folder and its content still present on the phone (sadly, wiped when unlocking the bootloader) and stock recovery installed.

I have stock rom (rooted)
When go to bootloader writing tempered unlocked, s-on, i installed twrp. Where found stock recovery mine is m7 ul

easy to sort, this zip contains a nandroid backup of your OS, so restore it using TWRP recovery and then flash the firmware also contained in the zip: https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=95897840722641162

Nandroid backup flashed, but firmware's can't install, writing that corrupted zip.

just pull the recovery.img out of the firmware.zip and flash that, you'll be on stock recovery then and should be able to update as soon as the update comes your way.

Done, waiting lollipop

[Q] Stuck Unrooting Tampered, Locked and S-On HTC One M7 :(

Hello! I need a huge help with HTC One M7 stuck in bootloader.
The device is rooted and recently installed with custom ROM (fw 4.3) but then I had to unroot and get back to stock ROM for service warranty.
I was following this link to unroot my device: htc-one.wonderhowto.com/how-to/return-your-rooted-unlocked-htc-one-back-factory-settings-for-warranty-repairs-0149204/.
All iz well except for the last step, loading the ROM and returning to stock. I initially intended to use the nandroid backup ROM (obtained thru TWRP) in recovery.
The problem now is that I can’t enter into recovery since the device is already locked and S-On. I also can’t find an exact RUU match.
Current device state is tampered, locked, S-On, and with security warning. Below is the device info:
(bootloader) version: 0.5

there is also one on htc1guru.com
I've already tried running the Rumrunner but it can't detect the device.
I also checked the device via adb devices and nothing is listed.
Do you have any other suggestion?
I'm in the same boat. Has anyone found a solution?
EDIT: I found out I was flashing an RUU that was a lower version that what was on my phone. Flashed the correct RUU and everything fixed itself.

Back to stock

I know there are a ton of these type of threads but every bit of information I can find seems to be little old or not quite match my needs.
My phone was Bootloader unlocked, HBoot upgraded, SuperCID, S-OFF, ViperOne 7.1 installed, Firmware Upgraded, TWRP installed
So far I have only reset my CID to the original value of HTC__001.
I'm completely lost now whether I should be flashing a stock RUU or stock Nandroid from here and I can't seem to find what would be the correct.
Here is what my getvar all currently shows (with imei and serial censored)

don't flash stock recovery and lock bootloader till you have removed Tampered and set to phone to Locked ..not relocked
Do not go S-on till your sure everything is done....
See nikk71 guide here >> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2541082
You never mentioned returning the phone to HTC ... I was simple telling you how to get back to stock to receive updates

My apologies, I really should have made it clear my intention was to restore stock for HTC warranty.
So now I'm back to where I was the OP looking for the right RUU.zip or Nandroid.
It seems that there isn't a RUU.zip for modelid: PN0710000 / cidnum: HTC__001
There's two possible Nandroid's however:
M7 CWM Nandroid Backup / CID HTC__102 / 1.29.401.12 (DE Unbranded - Thanks to FordSierra88)
↑↑↑↑↑______Also compatible with the following CID's:______↑↑↑↑↑
HTC__001
.....
M7 CWM Nandroid Backup / CID HTC__001 / 1.28.401.7 (UK Unbranded - Thanks to MacHackz)
File Size: 426.7 MiB - Downloads: 1350
[/QUOTE]
Is there a right / wrong choice here? The phone was originally completely unbranded if that makes a difference.
[EDIT] - Actually I see the latter has been noted as damaged
I went with the first one in the end and completed all other steps.
My phone was Bootloader unlocked, HBoot upgraded, SuperCID, S-OFF, ViperOne 7.1 installed, Firmware Upgraded, TWRP installed
Click to collapse
So I've completed:
Bootloader locked, Tamper removed, Hboot degraded and stock firmware restored, CID restored, Stock ROM restored, Stock Recovery restored.
I believe I just need to go S-ON now but it's late so I'll review with a fresh head tomorrow and make sure.
Thanks @clsA for all your help!

[Q] How to again unroot/Lock HTC One M7 which is still on stock/factory ROM.

Hi Guru's
I have rooted my HTC One M7 (India, CID - HTC_038) but didn't flash it with any custom ROM and continued using the stock/factory ROM. Now, I want to revert to the locked/unroot mode since I don't want to miss the OTA updates from HTC. I see that there is some information available on XDA and other forums but it looked fragmented to me. Can you please guide me or re-direct me to correct source which has more clear details. Please find the details. Thanks in advance !
Note: I am using TWRP.

For ota update to work you need stock recovery installed and 100% untouched stock rom (root and unlocked bootloader doesn't matter)
But when you unlock the bootloader, you loose the /data/preload folder which contain some HTC preloaded apps, weather animations etc...
Ota updates are patching these apps and if there are missing, the ota update installation will fail.
So you need to restore this folder and its files, set files permission and flash the stock 6.13.707.106 recovery back.
Or easier solution use this 6.13.707.106 reset rom. Flash it using your TWRP recovery. This will reset your rom to 100% stock including that /data/preload folder. You also have the possibility to flash the stock recovery when installing the rom, so you'll be 100% ready to take the ota update.
download the reset rom and push it to your phone storage
install it using TWRP
in the installation select YES for stock recovery and stock radio
select NO for ROOT
Some details i missed initially !
Really appreciate your quick response Alray but just wanted to add some more information (i hope its relevant !).
There is a new OTA update for India region, it successfully downloads but when the phone reboots , it goes into TWRP and if I try to flash that downloaded OTA from recovery, it fails.
My question is - The method described above by you will also take care of this issue..right ?

No. You will need s-off to flash this RUU
The only way to s-off your phone is by using Sunshine (Cost 25$).
There is no reset rom for your version (.401 M7_U variant).
Updating to Lollipop by OTA update
Hi Guru,
Thanks a lot for the 6.13.707.106 reset Rom. It helped a lot in getting the Stock rom installed
I used CWM recovery to install the rom.
The Current Issue that I am facing is that its not installing the OTA update of Lollipop in my mobile.
I also tried locking the bootloader but no luck
Kindly suggest how can I install the OTA for lollipop in my HTC One M7 or is there any Rom Reset that you can help us with.
Will there be any difference as I have uploaded the 6.13.707.106 reset rom using CWM Recovery.
Please advise

Hi Guru,
Thanks a lot for the 6.13.707.106 reset Rom.

Hi yatindroid,
Actually I haven't removed imei & serial number
That was the complete output of getvar all
I think when OTA for lollipop was trying to get installed it updated the Firmware and failed
Kindly assist me with the reset rom when you can.
Thanks

I can't find any stock recovery for 5.11.666.8 version and restoring the stock recovery is not enough to be able to receive ota update again in most cases. If you have unlocked the bootloader you lost some HTC apps (i.e Flashlight, Calculator, RingTone trimmer etc..) which are required to install ota update (if only one file to be updated is missing from your phone, like an HTC app, the ota update installation will fail).
I think you should re-stock using the latest available Bell RUU
Backup your important files before, the ruu will wipe your phone.
Download the file above and save it to your adb/fastboot folder.
Download this fastboot version (important) and save it to you adb/fastboot folder
Make sure your bootloader is locked or re-locked, if not:
Code:
fastboot erase cache
fastboot oem lock
Then flash the ruu:
Code:
htc_fastboot oem rebootRUU
htc_fastboot flash zip PN07IMG_M7_UL_L50_SENSE60_MR_BM_7.17.666.7_Radio_4T.35.3218.16_10.33Q.1718.01L_release_420193_signed.zip
htc_fastboot reboot
Phone will reboot itself once during the flash and you'll see an error message in your command window at the same time, its normal as long as the end result is "successful"
Btw edit your above post and remove your IMEI number and your serialno. Never post these numbers.

I bought this phone from Singapore and it came unlocked without a subscriber. I matched up the model and the hboot but does'nt the baseband need to either be the same or higher for restoring to a factory RUU?
Please post any suggestions as I'm excited to get this back to stock.

Their is no 6.x RUU
You need s-off to downgrade
SunShine S-Off
http://theroot.ninja/
or restore your stock nandroid and flash stock recovery to match your version
Do I need to do anything extra because I'm restoring from cwm to stock?

restore your backup / flash stock recovery
if it doesn't work you'll have to find a Stock rom to replace the files your missing or that were changed
I don't have a stock backup so which rom can I use to restore to stock?

Without a stock nandroid backup can I find out what was on the phone before so I can do a restore? I just want it to have stock and be able to s-on after its installed.

You had 6.13.707.7 on there before, and how are you going to restore if you don't have a nandroid ?
I still have a rom, works great but I just wondering how to go back to stock. Any asia version that will work after I do S-Off.
I'm spectulating if I have an RUU that meets these I can downgrade after using s-off: hboot 8064 asia 4T.28.3218.04 Is this correct?

You have not provided much information.
Which GURU reset you used ? Which firmware you were on before flashing it ?
Also attach you phone to pc in fastboot mode, open command prompt and type in fastboot getvar all
Copy, paste the result over here. Make sure you remove IMEI and Serial No from it.
Also it's generally advised to use TWRP with HTC One.
Judging from my Bootloader mode info my OS Version was 2.24.401 so i flashed Guru_Reset_M7_2.24.401.1 with TWRP (i don't know which firmware it was on because it was bricked when i got it, it kept restarting)

can you go into settings ?
GOOD news is that you can achieve S-OFF on this HBOOT version for free and very easily.
Just do as it is said in this thread.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2487888
S-OFF has many advantages. And if you follow the guidelines and always read before doing anything, you won't get into any trouble.
Once you achieve S-OFF. you can install any firmware on your phone.

You cant get s-off without a working rom on the phone, so thats got to be fixed first.
@arber95 reflash the guru reset file using TWRP 2.6.3.3 recovery, it should work then.
Hold down power button + volume down, the 2 lights on the bottom will flash approx 15 times, just keep holding, when the lights stop flashing, release to power button only, this will take you back to the bootloader.
Flash TWRP 2.6.3.3 recovery using fastboot commands http://techerrata.com/file/twrp2/m7/openrecovery-twrp-2.6.3.3-m7.img
enter recovery, hopefully the guru reset file is still there on your internal storage, if not you'll have to push it to your internal storage using adb, then uplug your phone and flash it.

I helped him RUU to stock.
He didn't want S-OFF. Just a working phone. He used ruu after incrementally flashing signed firmwares to 4.19.401.9..
Strangely his phone dialer was Fcing even after stock RUU 4.09.401.9
Last thing I know he catched 4.09.401.11 OTA and updated to it.
Don't know if the problem got solved.
As @abdulwakil noted. I'm back to Stock 4.4.2 with no root and relocked bootloader. Now my problems are: Dialer FC, i cant swipe notification center at all, and the phone restarts every exactly 4 minutes (which is strange), and it's not reading the simcard or getting signal (which it used to before)
@Seanie280672, help needed.

Sounds to me like you have the IMEI / Baseband problem, the only fix if the RUU didnt fix it is to send it off for repair, dont send it to HTC, they will charge you as your bootloader is re-locked, unlocking your bootloader voids your waranty, try your carrier if your on contract, its a hartdware problem and no amount of flashing will fix it.
Only way to hide that you ever unlocked your bootloader is to get s-off and falsh a very early rom, then lock and s-on before updating, however, now your probably on HBOOT 1.56, s-off is only possible through sunshine and will cost $25.

please remove your imei and serial from your post.
You could try flashing this, this is a full wipe firmware, it will wipe everything and re-build your partitions is the same firmware you have now: https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=23329332407579671
I would recommend after that to straight away, flash TWRP recovery and then push a custom KK sense rom to your internal storage and flash it, see if you have the same problem., if the problem still persists, you have a hardware issue.

And is it still playing up ?
This is all the wipe and non wipe firmware files, https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/tvdrXmIGYk0OWi0jtqih_0g/htmlview?pli=1, obviously you can only go up as your s-on, im surprised though that you can update whilst having those problems and they're not being fixed by the updates, I would be tempted to update as far as 6.09.401.5 full wipe, then flash twrp 2.6.3.3 and flash trhis rom by clsA

Yeah definitely sounds like unknown imei and baseband although I would expect you to only see the HTC logo after unlocking the screen.
For some reason CM roms work even with this issue. I believe it's because there is no Sense overlay with CM But I'm not exactly sure why they work.
Can you go to Settings>About>Phone Identity. And check your IMEI number is it displayed as Unknown?
Also Settings>About>Software information>More. And check your baseband is it displayed as Unknown.?

Again Sim not recognised, dialer FC, notification center doesn't open, and now it restarts more often (every 2 mins or so)
