I was wondering if I am able to use my N6 on sprint or Verizon network. Been going through the web and XDA but just like a straight forward answer. Just a simple question that's all. Thanks in advance.

Yes. I bought my nexus 6 from Moto's website and popped my SIM in and it works perfectly. Don't know what your experience might be if you had to take it to the store to activate.

Your subject line indicates that yours is an AT&T N6. It is carrier locked to AT&T. You will have to get an unlock code, either directly from AT&T or from a third party. Can only be unlocked if you bought it outright, without subsidy. Do a Google search, there are plenty of articles on how to do this.

Yes. But you'll have to get a SIM card from an already activated phone. You won't be able to just walk into a VZW store. The IMEI number won't show up on their list. Go over in General section, there's a thread that explains how this works.

I have N6 on Verizon
When from Retail Rooted Note 3 to N6. They had to dummy a phone on my line that required a nano to get the nano then removed the phone but left thet nano activated. I then popped nano in N6 and good to go. Only downside you CAN NOT use data the same time as making a call. Everything else works great. Extended network, 3G...etc

As far as I know, activation on Sprint should be as easy as getting their Sim card and putting it in. Once the device is freed from the AT&T lock of course.
Read this post and the next few after. Sprint may even have this sorted out by now too.

So, I am trying to do the same now. I have an iphone 6 plus with a micro sim in it, and I am trying to swap that over to an att n6 I just got off the craigs list. I get some bars, and the "hands free activation". But it never goes anywhere and eventually the bars go away and say no sim available. How have people gotten this done?

Both. I was actually able to get it activated using sprints online activation tool. I just had to enter in my MEID rather than IMEI (meid is IMEI minus the last number).

Hi,
From what i've seen it sounds like Verizon no longer locks their LTE phones. So am I correct in believing that if I got a nexus 6 through verizon, I would be able to just plug in a t-mobile SIM and use it without issue?
Would wiping completely and flashing all the stock google images remove any verizon bloat/bootscreen?
THanks

My GF had a verizon upgrade she didn't care to use. So figured it would be nice to pay $350 vs $650. First time i've bought a phone off a carrier in like 4 years. Can't believe they charged a $40 upgrade fee. Tmobile FTW!

Yeah, I know from my ATT days. However as far as I can tell, I believe Verizon doesn't follow this tactic.

Device Unlocking Policy
Postpay Device Unlocking Policy:
We do not lock most phones or tablets that are activated with our postpay service, either during or after the term of your service contract or Edge installment sales agreement.
We do not lock our 4G LTE devices, and no code is needed to program them for use with another carrier.

Be careful about this assumption. The Droid Turbo boot loader is still locked an there is no root, while the Droid Moto Maxx (International Turbo version is unlocked) . Most verizon phones can go from Carrier to carrier if they are a global phone so from that perspective they are not locked and can be used on other carriers but it doesn't guarantee the boot loader is unlocked and root is available.

I got a Verizon Nexus 6 activated on Sprint yesterday. They just dropped the last digit of the IMEI and it activated with no issue. No SIM lock either. Store was very reluctant to try but 1 guy there had a Nexus himself and wanted to see if it worked.

Okay, maybe a dumb question. But when I booted up the phone after a system reset it had 3 ATT apps on it. I am with ATT and did have my SIM card in. There also isn't any carrier branding on the back of the phone. So what is a surefire way to know that this is an "unlocked" phone and not an ATT phone?
Also the phone isn't updating to 5.1
If ATT lock their sim phones, a surefire way to check if it is locked is put a sim from another network in it.
Sim and sim lock and even carrier have nothing to do with updates. It takes 3 weeks for most people to get the ota
If you go thru the initial setup process with an AT&T sim already installed, it will install the AT&T apps. Just for the hell of it, take a look at the bottom of the back of the phone. I have watched many videos on how to remove the AT&T logo, but every single one I watched, always left a little outline of the logo. Sure it will eventually wear off completely in time, but look for that little logo. If you see nothing at all, that's a good sign, as I have yet to see a Nexus 6 sold by AT&T, come unbranded. Yeah that's not a definitive way to check if its actually an unlocked phone, but its a good start

I noticed the same thing. So to get rid of the AT&T logo on the back, I replaced the back. Cost was $10 for new back, and it only took about 10 minutes.
My point is caveat emptor.
If it has been carrier unlocked, it doesn't matter how it started life.
All Nexus (devices) N6 are unlocked by default. Carrier "bloat" is dependant on which SIM is inserted.

Only sure way to know if it was an AT&T phone originally is via the IMEI number. AT&T's start with "359". Unlocked variety start with "99".

I just input the given unlock code they gave me and it worked on the 1st time. I do not live in the US, however my local carrier here pretty much uses the same bands as at&t. I've read that users have issue with trying to get it to work on T-Mobile network after updating it to lollipop. Might want to double check your APN settings or maybe there's a bad coverage in your area?

I cannot confirm a fix for that because i do not stay in the United States. Try downloading an app called secret phone info in the playstore. You will be able to switch the network from the default gsm/LTE to wdcma preferred. I found this that I'm able to get better cell reception. Maybe try calling T-Mobile or keep searching in google. If I'm not mistaken theres a slight hardware difference between the T-Mobile (pure edition) and AT&T variant regarding the bands it supports.

Believe it or not, AT&T has been unlocking phones that are still on contract or are still on Next payment plans. There are threads about this in the iPhone forums.

It is worth making the request online - takes only a minute.

I'm not sure about it working on Tracphone but my gut feeling is that it will. The Nexus 6 worked on Verizon so that shouldn't be a problem but I'm not sure if the APN settings for Tracphone will be there or if you will have to manually create a new APN for them.
