[Q] How to share your VPN access with your hotspot - Nexus 6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Does anyone know how to share VPN access to devices tethering to your Nexus 6?
I use the hotspot on my Nexus 6 for my Chromebook. But whenever I turn on the VPN on the N6, the internet stops working on the Chromebook!!!
Is there a way to have the VPN on N6, and still use the hotspot, where the Chromebook will use the VPN access from the N6?
Thanks for your help ☺

Problems with froyo tethering and Cisco VPN client

Hi,
I have just upgraded mi N1 to froyo with the official update.
I tried the tethering function and it works just fine except for the fact that i am not able to use the cisco VPN client from my laptop when connecting to the internet via tethering.
The VPN session works up to when it is already connected without any error but then it doesn't transfer any data.
Is the traffic filtered somehow? Did anyone find a workaround for this problem?
Thanks in advance

I was using CiscoVPN and now Juniper through N1's tethering, never a problem.
Check the connection - check that you have DNS servers and you can access public servers using ping, etc. From the laptop, I mean.
I finally got it to work.
The strange part is that it works when using WIFI tethering but fails when using USB tehtering.

Same here.
I plug in my phone and turn on tethering. I can surf the web. I logon to VPN and then it wont let me connect to anything on the VPN. I decided to try turning the phone in to a hotspot, this works, i get connected. I VPN in and poof! i can hit all the servers. ... anyone else run in to something like this.
USB Tether + VPN and I cant hit anything on VPN
Wifi Hotspot + VPN and everything works as it should
Tmobile G2 - Stock
Cisco VPN software
Thanks
I had the same problem using USB tethering.
I found a solution:
- change at the Cisco client software the transport to "IPSec over TCP"
This worked for me fine.
I had the same problem with Hotspot and Cicso VPN, and the change in transport protocol to "IPSec over TCP" fixed it. Thanks.

[Q] Trouble with hotspot

Hello XDA,
I've been having this problem for a while, but I'm in need of a hotspot badly for the next few months. Anyway, I'm rooted on stock and I've tried using both FoxFi and TrevE's tether apps. FoxFi fails to start and TrevE's won't let me set a password. I live on campus and am a college student, which is why I need a hotspot because I'd like to work in my dorm, but the wifi is crap. Since I live in a dorm I don't want 20 other people connecting to my unsecured hotspot, is there any other wifi tether apps, a fix, or a ROM that has a working hotspot?

Using a VPN service for tethering and gaming.

Hi just wondering when I am using my phone to tether my computer to play games if I need to run a vpn on both my computer and my phone or just my computer or just my phone.
Okay so for anyone wondering or finding this in a search. You need to use a vpn installed on the computer and also on the phone to use tethering. I use PIA (private internet access) which is $40 for a year subscription.
This bypasses t-mobile's blocking. Also, I recommend using the native tethering program set to 5 ghz band for a stable connection without 2.4ghz interference.

Chromecast off phone hotspot and connect phone to it?

Alright I have a rooted nexus 6 and am able to use the hotspot feature. Basically what I want to do is use the Chromecast without a WiFi connection and instead use the hotspot. However, I can't get this to work since I obviously can't connect my phone to its own hotspot. Any ideas?
Edit: I have no problem with rooting the Chromecast but I don't know how to do it so I will need a tutorial for that.

if you have another device that has wifi capabilities available temporarily, you can do this very easily. Turn on your hotspot on your phone, then run the chromecast app on the other device (another phone, tablet, or laptop using google chrome browser with the chromecast extension). Then just follow the instructions from the chromecast app as you normally would.
