It seems that number of people who need Exchange support (via work or school) is growing.
This thread will provide definitive information about status of Exchange on various builds and brief reviews of Exchange apps available on the market.
------------
Stuff to come:
Exchange on Eclair
2- Exchange on Tattoo
3- Exchange on Hero
Well, 'full' exchange works on tattoo and hero, that's for sure. Myn tried to port the Eclair mail app to donut but the were a lot of lib requirements that made the system slow.
Of course, by full here I mean mail, calendar, contacts. I don't really use tasks so I haven't tracked that between builds.
Email works fine with the "Work Email" app using MYN's Warm Donut Release 3. I haven't been able to test Calendar with anything. (haven't found a free app for that)
I tried the Work Email in Myn's build. Occasionally, I get "sync protocol error." I had to manually refresh the email time to time in order to receive the email.
I gave up using Work Email. Instead, I use Gmail to pull my work email via POP3. I found when I reply my work email in gmail app, it correctly uses my work email address to send instead of my gmail address (just like the desktop version).
I found this is a good compromise because I only need one email app running which saves battery. The only problem is that gmail pulls the work email every hour or so.
What, if any, is the difference between Push mail and exchange mail?
What service is delivering my Gmail to the phone almost instantaneously? My main email account was with Yahoo. But Yahoo Mail required a periodic refreshing(hourly or whatever). I paid Yahoo $10 to upgrade and then I forwarded my Yahoo Mail to my Gmail account.
I signed in with my Gmail account on Android. Now I get my emails almost instantly from both addresses.....I assume this is using the "Push mail" feature of Android and Gmail. What are the benefits of "exchange mail" and do you need to have your Email running from MS Outlook on a desktop to utilize "exchange mail"?

Push mail is part of ActiveSync. Google licensed ActiveSync from Microsoft so that WinMo users could use the built-in ActiveSync on their phones to get their gmail and google calendar. With the work email app on android, you can choose to download mail items as they arrive which I assume is using the Microsoft 'push' functionality. I don't know how they work it with the gmail app.
I have been using Touchdown. It has worked great, very easy setup.
Syncs everything, mail, contacts, calender, tasks.
Mail, calendar, contacts work on mssmison's new eclair (non-sense) build.

Moxier Mail is also a great solution. MUCH better interface than Touchdown IMO

I tried taking the Corporate Calendar from that and running it in Warm-Donut but it won't install
Anybody have any luck getting Exchange connectivity to work with mssmision's 1.4 build on a vogue?
Data is working fine for me, but "unable to open connection to server" whenever I try to set it up.
Gmail sync seems to work fine.
Connecting to exchange 2003, with no SSL.
*seems like I got it working it working by messing around with turning SSL on and off, and re-entering various details. It's syncing now
I have had challenges receiving messages with 1.2-1.4, but original 1.1 ported over to 240 works very well.

Corp calendar is only for 2.0.1 onwards, whereas Myn's s 1.6 - it won't run. Try moxier mail which is equally good.

does the 'work email' app only work for over the air connections? the exchange server at work only creates partnerships on 'hard connections'
thanks in advance
OK so i have tried moxier mail, work email, and roadsync, all three seem to use OTA (over the air) sync partnership only.
is there any app out there that uses USB connection to establish a partnership for exchange? or better yet, is there a WinXP driver someplace for the 'android phone' that i can install?
i have this one bump and i can go android 100% any help is greatly appreciated.

Not sure about that - I wouldn't think it matters if you could actually make a direct connection via usb...

OK so i get USB is out for the time. got a suggestion from an other board to place the enterprise security certificate in the android folder.
more questions
1. will this replace the need to create a partnership via USB?
2. where should it go to even begin to attempt to see if it works?
thanks again
This thread is long dead, but just for the record - starting in FroYo (2.2), android has native support for email / calendar / contacts.

one thing folks need to understand is that there are some companies (the one i work for for example) who have every exchange security protocol imaginable in place and are not willing to reset for people. this produces problems as with this situation as active-sync is required for a hard line connection to install the security software on your device (3 min security time out- needs to be unlocked more often than typical) and using gmail as a redirector is not a viable option as those features are "not supported'
many of the 'exchange clients' on the market today rely on OTA delivery and security to be in place. IMO there is no true solution to exchange mail for android. there are fixes for calendar and contacts witch is a step in the right direction... but not a 1-fix-it-solution. i have been looking for one for over a year and there is nothing to be done till google and M$ get together and have a pow-wow or sort out what-is-what with security.
YES, there are many good attempts out there but none to help the fully secure.
Sorry if this has been addressed already, but I thought it relevant so I'm posting it here. I've always used just my GMail account with the native app and it's worked fine so I never really bothered with my Hotmail account since it's only POP mail and I feel that having it poll my Inbox every 15mins drains the battery heavily. But I read this morning that they've just started rolling out the new Windows Live Hotmail Wave 4 today, which includes Exchange ActiveSync support for Push email and Account syncing for Calendar and Contacts.
As it's being rolled out in clusters, my account hasn't been upgraded yet. But I decided to try to set up my account to Push anyways and it seems like it's working fine.
If you want to do the same in the Stock Email App, Add a New Account. Then input your Email Address and Password then hit the Manual Setup button and Select Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync and use these settings:
Domain\Username: \username@hotmail.com
Password: password
Server: m.hotmail.com
Use Secure Connection (SSL): Yes
Accept all SSL Certificates: No
hit Next, then make sure the Email Check Frequency is set to Automatic (Push) and then just set your other sync options. (I've only synced mail since my contacts and calendar are synced with GMail).
I'm sure some things will change when my account actually gets the upgrade, but for now, it's basically all I need.
Full Disclosure: I'm on 2.2 and using the stock Email App for this. I don't know how this will impact 2.1 or if you're using K9 or Touchdown, etc. so feel free to post you results.
Just tried your settings with the 2.1 email app and it's no go.
Just tested...
...and it works! Running 2.2 (FRF50).
Even though I rarely use it and that it's mostly used for pretty useless mail it's still nice that it works, finally.

Using stock 2.1 update 1, it works except there's no calendar option(should only available in 2.2), but the server is not very stable, need a few more retry to connect
Must be why it failed then.
2.2 you can add with out having to change any settings.
Do you know the setting to use in any other apps? The stock mail app doesnt allow showing html pictures, so i'd prefer to use k-9 or touchdown...
THANKS!!

Worked for me on 2.1 email app. Now, how do I get a widget to show me the unread count?
Finally MS do something useful to their antiquated service!
Tried it, but doesn't work (yet)
Do you get an e-mail when your account is upgraded?
Guess that is cool if it works, but you can only have 1 Exchange Activesync account on any device...that includes iPhone, WinMo etc...
Has this stopped working for anyone? I'm just getting 'unable to connect to server' now.
Same here, getting the "Unable to open connection to server."-message now.
The wierd thing is that yesterday I got the little yellow bar up top in Hotmail telling me to restart the browser to try the new version (which is what actually got me to try this) but nothing really changed, rollback?

Technically true, but two Push accounts can be accomplished on both Android & WinMo(windows live + exchange)
For us with X10's who are stuck with version 1.6 of Android,
What are the settings to get this working in K9? Has anyone successfully got it working with that mail prog?
Thanks!
Still not working here. Go Microsoft
Small update:
My Hotmail account was upgraded to Wave 4 this morning... Hotmail via Exchange? Still no go. It worked for about an hour back on 17th June, and nothing since.
Well it's all working again now
so its real push service?
if yes i need try this
i wa susing SEVEN but lack of html =(
Yes, it's proper push.
now that talk, market, etc seem working...it seems calendar is the last hole to plug.
the 3rd party apps i have like pure calendar and touch calendar can't find anything.
is there already a fix for this or still a WIP?
Latest version of Auto-Nooter includes the calendar app, but it will not sync with the Google servers. I hope someones working on it, but then again, I hope those with the expertise are working on a full blown ROM for us to upgrade too.
There was some discussion about this awhile back.
Here is a post with files that work for me
(I have a fully functional calendar, albeit restricted to one gmail account, and I have CalWidget set up).

Thanks for this info.. I will most likely re-root with the newest nooter and hopefully all will sync in one fell swoop.. I sideloaded the calendar apk's, so there might not be any info pushing to the syncd cloud correctly.

Can you see those using the apps provided by the Autonooter-2.12.15?

If you have the accounts set up correctly and the apk's in place, you should have no problems syncing. ... Puzzling ...
Can you see your accounts in Google Books or Google Reader?
I'm having strange synching issues.
I grabbed both apks from the link above...the 2nd set.
placed them in system/app using Root explorer.
Rebooted. Now i have Calendar in the app tray.
I have one main Calendar and 2 Other Calendars (Wife's and Facebook events).
All linked under my gmail account.
In the calendar settings I do see all of these...however seeing that they are arranged alphabetically...my Wife's name goes on top...so hers are the only events that are being displayed.
So is it still ONLY ONE calendar can be displayed at a time? I do see all of them...and I can check/uncheck as I please to select... but would really like to view all...
Did i use the correct set of APKs?
and for some background.
I rooted with Supernooter.
Then got gapps using Auto_nook0.8 Autoconfig process.
Everything's working as desired except this calendar synching issue...and it'd be ideal not having to go through a newer Root process from scratch again...Thanks
Anyone have the calender apk out the the "auto-nooker"?

I am now also noticing strange behavior:
Initially, I rooted with nooter-2 and installed GApps/Market and Calendar separately (as was done at the time).
I am noticing that, although the initial sync picked up all the calendars from my login Gmail account, new events are synced only from Nook to Google server.
Importantly, I cannot sync new events to Nook from my Google calendars!
Also, and, at this point, a minor issue: my other Gmail accounts are not harvested for calendars (likely because there is no provision for this during "Add Account" dialog).
Can anyone please check on their Nooks whether new events get added to their calendars when created on devices other than the Nook?
If anyone succeeds: what was your root and Calendar installation methods?
Thanks.
Updates: the same is true for me with Autonooter-2.12.15 and Autonooter-2.12.18 (FW1.0.1).

I have this problem also. Initial sync worked fine, but I'm not seeing newly added events.
There doesn't seem to be a way to force a sync...
It seems that one peculiar difference with my phone's Calendar operation is that on the Nook the service called "Calendar Storage" (com.android.providers.calendar) is not running.
Anybody have any ideas? Does this possibly explain lack of ongoing synchronization?
I have dabbled a bit in different versions of Calendar.apk and CalendarProvider.apk from different Roms, but had no luck. The apks from cm-5.0.8 are the only ones that work as well as we have seen.
There is a free app (Business Calendar Beta) that has an effective "Sync now" function.
This thing triggers the latent calendar sync with the Google servers.
... Unfortunately, it is just a "Band-Aid" for this lack-of-syncing problem, but ... nevertheless.

In a similar vein, I got "Syncer Widget" to work, so I just put the widget next to the calendar widget to remind me to sync every now and then.
Just don't click on the choice to go to Android accounts and sync, as that rebooted my NC.
I did a complete wipe (system and user data) then autonooter w/ 1.01 firmware; not issues w/ my calendar syncing, but I only have one google account.

Do you mean that when you add an event on your Nook, it appears on your Google Calendar page (on the computer) and vice versa: when you add something on your GCal, it appears on your Nook?
Yep, works both ways. I'm using the Launcher Pro calendar on my nook and it's syncing no problem with my google account calendar.

@Kokanee483, I see, you probably mean the Launcher Pro widget calendar.
It may have a force sync function which is cool and would solve the problem in a way symilar to Synker or Business Calendar Beta.
I am more interested in the fundamental problem of CalendarProvider service not running.
Would you mind checking whether it syncs both ways from the Calendar App itself?
Also, if you have NookColor Tools, would you check Running Services for the CalendarProvider service entry?
Thanks.
Hi,
I came from HTC desire, previously when I used with my office exchange, it managed to sync emails, calendar and contacts perfectly. However, when I changed to SGN, the following situation happen.
- Modify or cancel event from Outlook, phone doesn't get sync (even I sync manually few times), it is still displaying old info.
- Modify contact in Outlook, for example mobile number or name. Phone doesn't get sync and still display the old info.
- Modify contact in phone, for example company, Outlook doesn't get the updated info.
All above are done with process where sync is "triggered" successfully.
Did any of you encounter this problem? Any resolution?
I can't help you, but I'm having problems with email in my exchange account. I have everything set up the same as my last several Android devices, but I can't reliably receive new emails. Sometimes they'll be delayed by a day or so. It's almost like the email client is not using cellular data to update and only using wifi when the device is on. Anyone else have this problem?

Sounds like account & frequency settings than an issue. Have you verified them? Are you on mobile data all the time?
I'm finding that on occasion it stops syncing mail.. the moment you reboot OR go in and manually ask it to refresh it starts doing it normally again no problems...
I am also having the same problem .. However manually refreshing - sometimes still does not work. It is indeed - very annoying .. I believe the problem is in the Email.apk ..
still no solution found, apart from using different E-mail clients off the market, which work with various success ..
I've been through the settings many times but still have the problem. It just decides to stop syncing sometimes.

Any alternate email client you suggest? I start to miss HTC mail client.
Although a bit weird, but after flashing this rom (Cassie's XtraLiteRom KKA ThunderBolted! V2.2) it seem to work fine so far. Still observing and hope it does really work.
I am also using the same ROM - there was no improvement for me. I believe the problem is in the E-mail client. The one we have is version 3.0.0.1. Before on another Android phone I used 2.3.5. I tried to replace the new one with the old one - and then it works. The problem is however that the old one is not scaling up to fit the large Gnote screen. It is a lower resolution.
I tried many other e-mail clients - K-9, Kaiten (both of them could not connect to my exchange server (2010)), Moxier - for some reason crashed my contacts and then I tried TouchDown - which is kind-a good and in terms of connectivity - all worked fine - but there were some integration points that were not fit for my taste.
What I ended up doing was a bit weird - but so far works nicely. I downloaded Google Calendar Sync - which takes your Outlook calendar and syncs it with your Google Calendar. Then I downloaded GO Contact Sync Mod - and that does the same for the Outlook and Gmail contacts. So I have both of them running on my PC and they automatically sync Calendar and Contacts. This way - my phone get them through the Google account and .. a bonus is that I have a backup
To check e-mails - I use the IMAP functionality of K-9 as my exchange server doubles up as IMAP too. For the time being - that's OK for me - and I will be hoping that Google will fix up this E-mail client in the Ice Cream Sandwich .. let's hope it is not I SCREAM sandwich
Alternatively - one can use the old E-mail client - 2.3.5 .. for Contacts and Calendar only and use K-9 for the mail .. It is really a matter of preference
I noticed that this may work. Instead of using push notification, use interval sync. This seems to solve it?
It's really weird and I still can't figure out the root cause.
That's a good clue - it appears to fix it!
Iam using SGN with 500+ emails everyday! absolutely no problem at all. I have been user of XE, XL, Sensation etc I personally think this issue arises when data connectivity of the concern operator is down (GPRS / EDGE) however, on WIFI no issues at all

Nope it's not the connectivity issue, it's the bug on push notification. Apparently this seems to be a bug in samsung, I didn't have issue in HTC previously.
After changing the push to interval pulling, it works perfectly fine now.
It might be related to 2.3.6 I recall having the issue on 2.3.5 and I'm pretty sure I saw it on my p1000 after I modded it.
My note is still stock.

Forgot to add:
Mail and Calendar is sync'ed OK.
On Galaxy Tab with KRATOS 4.1 everything syncs fine with the same Exchange server.
So I just got the phone today, I'm a little underwhelmed with the looks and the camera quality. But aside from that, I'm having a larger issue. I tried adding my work account to the phone using Exchange ActiveSync, however, I have numerous issues:
1. The calendar sync option does not appear;
2. The contact sync option does not appear;
3. The sent email does not sync (I can only see emails that I've sent on the phone);
4. The push email does not work - i.e. when someone sends me an email, it will immediately pop up on my laptop, desktop, and HTC One Mini ... but I have to manually refresh the Sony in order for it to show??
I have deleted cache and data from calendar, contacts, set up the ActiveSync account again to no avail. It just doesn't want to work on this phone. Does anyone have any suggestions? This is a HUGE problem for me. Thanks

mmmm that doesn't help resolve the reason why it's not working properly. I appreciate your suggestion, but I shouldn't have to download a third party app to make something that should work natively. But I'll have a look at "Nine" regardless.
Ok ... then curious question ... what is the best app for POP3 and ActiveSync? I do like the interface and features of Nine, but I'd like it if there was one program that could handle both POP3 and ActiveSync.
