I had the same problem. I created a folder inside sdcard0 (internal memory) and placed the mp3 inside. Folder path storage\sdcard0\media\Audio\ringtones
This seemed to be enough for now.

Same here, I can only use ringtones that are stored in internal storage. I have not been able to use ringtones stored on SD since installing Lollipop.

I've made what #touiou told and everything is ok now. 10x man.

How to Fix Silence only Ringtone

I was trying to get ringtones to work with out the media scanner and Astro file manager combo. Here's what I did to get them to appear andwork all the time.
1. Moved all my files from my sdcard to my Computer.
2. Downloaded HP Formatting Tool at this URL http://dl.commentcamarche.net/en.kioskea.net/download/files/SP27608-2.1.8.exe
3. Formatted my Sdcard into Fat32
4. Replaced my files onto sdcard
5. Rebooted Android
6. Checked Ringtone list and to my surprise It Works!
7. Set my Ringtone, Alarm, and Notifacation!!
8.Enjoy
That's interesting
I went to go do this with mine and realized that my card was already in Fat32, I forgot I had changed it some time ago
I can't get any options besides 'silent' though
I'm using a Pure and the astro file scanner thing works for me, but this does not
Are your android files in /sdcard or /sdcard/andboot? I have mine in /sdcard but it was in /sdcard/andboot before i formatted. Maybe this has something to do with it, but i'm really not sure Everything else i did is in the list. Please try and if it works i will update the list. Thnx

Ringtones appear twice--help??

i just installed a rom on my phone, and my ringtones are being listed twice when im browsing ringtones in the sounds&display setting...i tried rebooting but it still shows up twice..is there anyway of fixing this?
Is it possible that you have them in more than one folder? Like /ringtones and /notifications? That would definitely cause it...
Sent from my HTC Hero with Froyo...
Ok i had the same problem. but i had duplacate rintones that came with the phone not the ones i added
look in folder on the sd card /media/ringtone.
once in that folder look and see if there are stock ringtones in that folder if so delete them because the stock ringtones should be in the root of the phone not the sd card
pm me if you need any more help

[Q] [HELP] Ringtones stopped working

hi, ive got a problem that i cannot seem to sort myself.
ive got custom ringtones stored on my SD card that i have been using for a while.
whenever the phone was connected to my PC, in mass storage mode [beacuse Kies wont work, dont get me started on that!] the rington and message alerts would go to default [a load of beeping] as the SD card could not be accessed, upon unplugging they went back to normal.
a couple of days ago this stopped working, and now i cannot set custom ringtones or message alerts no matter what i try! i have rebooted, uninstalled a load of my latest apps, formatted SD card and still no luck.
the only thing that i have chnaged is that i bought a new SD card [16gb instead of 8], but i have formatted this both in and out of the phone.
can anyone help!!
thanks Matt
You have mounted the card again (sorry if a daft question)?
i have had this happen periodically when the sd card that they are stored on unmounts or something.. bringing up the system to set the ringtone crashes..
the only way i got around it was bringing up the settings changing the notification and voice etc. ringtone to a built in system tone.. then bringing it up again and resetting to the correct ringtone.
if you stop media scanning
or have added the file .nomedia to the folder where your ring tones are located
then the phone will not see the ringtone
you can download the Media Scanner on/off switch to fix that
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=8174375&postcount=60
I did have a .nomedia file in the folder but I cannot download the file to my phone, it says that it cannot complete the download as its a file format that the phone doesn't recognise! ?
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
install Astro File manager or Attachment to SD plug in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=8139934&postcount=56 also works
both of those will let you save files to the phone from the browser/email
Well, its sorted
Got rid of the .nomedia file, opened the filer with the mp3 with '01 file manager' and added it as a ringtone...AND IT WORKED!
However...i downloaded that file from the market and it still wouldn't key met save that file, hmmmm I'll gave to download it on my comp I think.
Thanks for all the help guys, really chuffed now

[Q] Why do some [OGG] tones show in list and others not? Stored on SD.

It seems that some ogg sound files, stored on the sd card, show in the tone selection list and others do not.
does anyone know why this is??
it seems that not all tones are being displayed in the selection lists...
thank you thank you
I'm pretty sure to select a tone it needs to be in system/media/audio/ringtones(or /notifications, or /alarms, or /ui), and not on the SD. I can't remember if it was you trying to convert a wav file to ogg, but if you didn't get it my guess would be that wav is not supported by hero, so the orig file may need to be mp3 or something.
ugh, like i wrote, some are listed, others are not.
android 101: got ringtones, notifications folders on my sd card...the sounds are in there...
thank you

Believe it or not I can read Stop being grumbly, you asked for help, I tried. Let's try this again. Simple question: did you put them into where I said (system/media/audio/ringtones)? Or are they ONLY on your sd, because the system sounds in settings should only pull from system I believe, not sd. I installed about 20mb of ringtones and notifications to my sd, they did not show up, i copied them into system/media, rebooted, they were there. My guess is the ones that "show up" are ones you dl'd from an app like zedge or mabilo, which copy them into the correct directory....
Don't know. I copied everything from the system and moved it to the SD card; saving 2mb.

interesting, well, (OP) maybe try the simple reboot and see if they are there, otherwise try putting them in system and see what happens.
All my ringtones and notifications are in folders on the root of the sd card, in folders named ringtones, notifications. Almost every file shows in the list, even some ogg files but some ogg files are not showing. So the placement of the folders and files on the sd card is not the problem.
Thanks for the input, I'll just convert the ogg files that aren't showing to mp3 files.

seriously, just try to put one into system... (you do have root explorer or some similar file manager, right?) and reboot to see what happens, otherwise, I hope it works for you.

I also solved this problem by copying to the internal sd card, but before that I had to do a factory reset.
