Unzip the firmware and take system.img.ext4
Drag system.img.ext4 on ImgExtractor.exe

[Q] How do I extract files from ROM?

Is it possible to extract an APK from a ROM File?
If i take the JM5 ROM, I can unRar it and then I can unTar the md5 file that is the ROM - but from there I just get a bunch of system files that I assume are images of partitions. The big one is the factoryfs.rfs - is there a way to pull an apk out of here, or do i have to install on a device first and save the APKs i want?
Thanks.

I don't know the legality of doing this but is it not possible to extract the apk files from a ROM image and side load them onto the phone?

I do't think it's that easy. I have the Jedi build on my phone and have S Memo from an add-on package that the rom creator provided but haven't seen any of the other roms with that type of add-on. Maybe you could use the apps from the stock build if you change the permissions but I don't know how legit that would be or if the original Samsung apps would work properly by side-loading them like that. I think there are some other things that would have to be edited inside the APKs to get them working

Need Conservations.apk and odex

Hello everyone!
Recently I rooted my phone and begun to tweak it. So I decided to integrate all updated system app to system partition . After that the camera wasnt working so I restored a nandroid backup. Everything was good until I tried to open the SMS app. It crashed imidiately. I wiped its data, cache and dalvik but it didn't work. Then using root explorer I navigated to priv - apps and see if was anything wrong with the permisions. Everything was ok so i decided to delete the odex File and reboot. But after the reboot the SMS app was missing although the APK was still there. I am on stock kitkat locked bootloader. Any help please?
Delete .odex files without deodex? You need to deodex first, also some apps need libs... You need to extract it from apk and copy to "system/lib"

How do I "rip" the gallery from a ROM (zip)

Hi, I want to know if I can rip the AOSP gallery from a installed ROM (or ROM zip).
I also need the editor to work.
Who can help me out on this matter?
Thanks for your replies!

For ROM zip you would need to unzip it using 7-zip, then navigate the system/app folder and find what might be a folder called "gallery" everything you need should be inside that folder. For an installed ROM just use a file explorer app and navigate to the system/app folder then copy and paste the gallery to the root of your internal storage. All this assumes the gallery is in the same location as the photos app is on my stock ROM.
Awesome, found it.
I usually backed it up using ES Explorer, but that broke the editor.
The lib folder is now included, so I should be good to go. Will try later!
Thanks!

The unzip will not completely work with the changes google is making. The newer compiled roms are compiled into images and not like they used to be.

Forget about ripping it from a sysimage. Install it as an application from specially modified sources;
https://github.com/lbdroid/android_packages_apps_Gallery2
Or if you trust me, binary; https://github.com/lbdroid/Android-Binaries/blob/master/Gallery2.apk

I already encountered the image thing you both mention.
Luckily I was able to pull it from the installed ROM.
Got it working now. Editor works just fine.
Last thing though...
Each time I hit the edit button, the pop-up for "select action" shows up. It only displays the editor to select.
Is there any way I can get rid of that?
Setting a default action for it somehow, somewhere?
