Any way to store multiple networks logged in?I - Google Chromecast

I was wondering if there is a way to skip network registration everytime we switch places so that each network could be stored and just connect and play?

I've always wanted the same thing. I take one of my chromecasts with me to travel so it switches networks a lot. It would be nice if it remembered networks. Also it would be nice if you could some how sign into guest wifi pages. Right now i'm using the MAC address spoof trick.
Maybe it could get added to Eureka ROM?

The easiest solution is to get a travel router. Let your travel router remember the various networks while setting-up both your device and Chromecast to remember the SSID of your travel router.

It actually does remember (it gets stored into the supplicant file), but it doesn't seem to use anything but the most-recently registered (first?) one.
That would be a nice add for Eureka-ROM, if either
available networks could be checked for connectivity and one that's available is chosen (like phones do)
be able to select another stored WiFi profile from t he web panel (so you could choose the correct one for your destination before you get there)
For now, @eKeith's solution is the easiest.

Connection lost while using WLAN

When i use WLAN the 3G/GSM connection is lost after a few minutes and i have to reboot the phone to get it back. Does anybody know why this might be? Could it be the Radio?
I think its turning it off because your connecting to the internet through the wifi, when you disable wifi it should re-enable the 3g connection, but if it doesnt you can turn on the data connection...
thats what it sounds like is going on from your post. When I turn on wifi it will drop the data connection but has always reconnected to it once I disable wifi or I go outside of my wifi's range and something try's to connect to the net...
Yes, it is logical, you could not have opened two types of connection concurrently. One type closed another one.
ive had the same problem, when i connect to wi-fi i lose the data connection and it doesnt let me browse until i turn wi-fi off...i dont understand the point of wi-fi if u cant browse with the speed since the data connection is lost?
Thanks men! By turning on the data connection after i used wifi it reconnected!

What Wifi allows you to do us connect wirelessly to another connection, at home its my DSL, which is much faster than the edge network, and if I did not have an unlimited data plan wouldnt add to my phone bill. In that way its very usefull. Seeing how its faster and available at home or in places where your cell signal might not be strong or available you can use it to get online.
But you need to tell it your no longer using wifi for it to reconnect through the network to deliver data to you again.

ok so when it comes to wi-fi im a big newbie, i have a tmo wing and have flashed (upgraded) rom...i also have dsl at home how is it i can connect and access this...when i search for wi-fi it usually only picks up my neighbors connections never my own...?
If you have a wifi router or your modem has a build in wifi option you go into your modem to set it up. Most modems / routers come with it broadcasting the SSID so you should see something (usually the default is the name of the manufacturer)
If you have your paperwork you can open your web browser and type in the address to open the internal OS and make changes as you see fit. For example mine is a linksys and its default address was http://192.168.1.1, most routers used to default to that but since a lot of modems are coming out with build in os and firewalls they have that IP so routers can be changed like mine. Once in the OS you can set up your pw so no one else can play with your settings
Navigate to the Wireless section and there should be a bunch of settings. I renamed my WiFi name to match my home network, and disabled the SSID broadcast. Then changed the chanel for some of my other devices, if you dont have anything that requires this leave it alone. Then enable WEP or other protection, 128 bit wep is pretty decent and anyone hacking through it will probably be disappointed with your lack of juicy goods.
Once you have the SSID and the Key encription you go to your phone and mirror the information into the WiFi settings. The web will be a 26 or so string of letters / numbers that will equal the password you set. These must be typed in perfectly or it will not work, took me 6 or so tries to get it typed in correctly but once its in you wont need to do it again unless you reset the phone or change the network settings.
If all that goes through open IE on the phone and hit up google or something, if it loads your online.
Thats a jumbled and messy tutorial, I can fix it to be more user friendly if you need me to do it, but with you not seeing any SSID but your neighbors your wifi is either non existant or disabled...

thanks for the quick reply, ill give it a try...might need the more user friendly version lol sorry
Its no problem, the biggest thing will be weather or not you have a wifi router or modem. Then depending on the brand the IP you have to type in to log into the modem. Each router / modem will have paperwork with it that tells you how to do it, some are different but thankfully most are the same.
The un is usually blank and the pw is usually admin, sometimes now they dont even put one unless you specify it. Once your in the OS its pretty self explanitory, there are lots of things to not mess with, but in the wifi area you can look over my post and figure most of it out,
if you get hung up on somethin just post what it is and ill see what I can do

Wireless Wierdness

Help!
I have a Netgear DG834T router as provided by Sky. I have one wired and two wireless connections running into it (let's call them WD, WL1 and WL2 respectively).
On the connections page I can see all of them under "attached devices"...but now I want to connect using my Kaiser (actually an O2 XDA Stellar)
What happens...
On the Kaiser, I get an IP address (assigned by DHCP) as normal - but can't access the internet - or at least, can only access it very rarely - http://www.google.com can't be found, but http://www.bbc.co.uk can. No idea why.
On the router, under "attached devices", not only can I NOT see the Kaiser, but WL1 and WL2 also disappear. WD remains visible. The router cannot ping the IP address of the Kaiser (timed out). If I disable WiFi on the Kaiser, then WL1 and WL2 are immediately visible again. Internet connection on WL1 and WL2 works, even when they are not visible.
I HAVE connected to this network before without any problems.
What the hooting heck is going on, and how do I fix it?
Thanks!
Time to troubleshoot! What happens with this phone on another wireless network. We need to determine if it's the phone or the network. Do you have any friends with a phone like this? Can you use their phone on your network? Do you have any ROMs flashed, has this phone ever been on the network without problems?
If the phone works on another router try looking for firmware updates for the router. Those things really do need to be updated often and it could have something to do with that.
Only have access to one network :-(. Might be a couple of weeks before I can access a hotel one or something like that.
Think next door neighbour has similar phone, but different provider...will try if he'll let me!
No ROMS flashed.
It connected fine when I first had it. As far as I know, I've changed nothing since then.
2 out of 4 answered...with an option on three...I'll get back to you as soon as I've beaten up my neighbour and stolen his phone...
Joke!
There should be somewhere you can go to test that wireless. I can walk outside the building I'm in and find one.

You = US, me = UK. We still think the biro is a recent invention...
Neighbour's phone on my network gives the exact same problem. I've also noticed that when I click "Renew IP" on the Kaiser it doesn't work...it gives me 0.0.0.0, but will occasionally flash up the correct IP address. It's alomst as if the connection is being lost and remade every few seconds. The status ist gives me is "associated to network"...is that different to "connected"?
I've been trying to solve this on my router, but none of the settings seem to make any difference.
Same here
I get the same with the router from sky.
Kaiser says I have an IP address, 192.168.0.5, but the it doesn't show up on the attached devices on the router.
What I find that works is hit renew IP maybe twice until you get a really wierd IP address like
169.254.*.**, actually not sure if I'm picking up another network, but for some reason I don't think I am.
I can then browse the web and sync via wifi.
Really pisses me of that it says that it has an IP address but doesn't connect.
1) Make sure you dont have a proxy set up on your wifi connection on your device.
2) The 169. address is your device getting an unauthorised IP address as the router did not receive the correct encryption key from the device.
3) You can check if its an encryption thing by simply logging in to the router (192.168.0.1 in your web browser on pc) and changing the settings to turn wpa off and testing it. The routers username and password are on the card - its something like "sky" and "admin"
Yeah I agree, there is something up with that router.

No, proxy set-up as the device was bought unbranded in US.
Because there are issues with this router, encryption and media streaming devices, I have only restricted the mac addresses with no encryption.
Still don't know about the 169. ip address beacuse doesn't seem to come up as am ISP.
Now then, how wierd is this?
After all these issues and kind of giving up on it as a bad job, I also noticed that out on the road, my GPRS wasn't working either - TomTom couldn't connect to the "plus" traffic service.
I get on the phone to O2 who told me that my phone hadn't been "provisioned". After one false start where they didn't seem to do anything about it, I have just (literally) had them tell me to go to the O2 Operator settings and tell it to update the "O2 UK Post Pay_GPRS" and reboot.
GPRS now works. And magically, so does my WiFi - IP address negotiated and full access to internet and my router's setup page granted. Working like a charm again.
So - seems to me it's an account setting, and nothing to do with either me poor ol' router or me nice new phone.
For completeness, I was occasionally getting the 169 IP address too, so it sounds like we have EXACTLY the same problem - suggest you get onto your service provider ASAP.

Connection issues with a repeater

I just got my self an Asus N12 router/repeater and already set it up for repeater mode, verified with a laptop places on the house that formerly had very low signal now shows almost a full bar now the problem I have is that the Galaxy Note seems to only want to connect to the main router which gives it like a very low or even dropped signal, using an app called wifi analizer it can show both my main router and the repeater ( both have the same SSID and only shows a different mac address of some sort, the repeater is actually detected giving off good signal but then again it always connects to the main router.. I never had to setup anything on the laptop it just gets better over all signal.
EDIT:
This is what Wifi Analizer sees
Home (00:23:59:11:11:71)
Home (bc:ae:c5:b0:3a:78)
first one is my primary router and the 2nd one is my asus, the note always prefers to connect to the primary router and ignores the signal from the repeater.. the laptops on the other hand get the signal boost!
Good thread to second the question.
Is it possible to set the Roaming Aggressiveness for the Note?
In simpler words - if i have two signals (say, identical as the OPs config) i want to switch between them before the connections to the connected one has been dropped. In other words - is there a way to switch WiFi networks beneath signal strength value or on better signal from known network?

Im also looking for something like that, I've read before that tasker can do that kind of switching.

I had the exact same problem and this fixed it. It uses just 472Kb and it works. Thanks!
To use it, open it, Menu, Preference, Access Point(AP) and choose your preferred network.
It would be nice if I could set up multiple preferred access points, but I can live with the inconvenience of choosing a network while I'm travelling. I was getting annoyed with having to keep doing it at home though.
Hope it will resolve your problem.
You could try this with the free Wi-Fi Rules (a WIFI Manager) app in the market.
It allows you to set connect priorities...
Or even Wif-Fi scanner wRecX(Free) where your device can connect with the retrieved access points specified in the list...
That is annoying! I just bought a repeater. I guess I'll be having the same problems ...

I will try both solutions once I have my repeater up and running again, It is currently used as my primary router as it gives a better over all coverage compared to my old router but I will go back to using the repeater when I have the time to do so.

A repeater automatically configured to have the same SSID at least on the Asus repeater mode, Access Point mode on the other hand allows you to use a different SSID but you need a LAN cable to connect to it.
After setting it back up, I've already figured it out that if I needed to connect to my repeater I must have a static IP settings on my phone.. for some odd reason it does not provide any IP from the DHCP of the primary router, so when I go up a floor I just need to reconnect manually to the primary router by turning the wifi toggle off then on again.
I have exactly the same issue, Static IP works but Notes can't pick an IP while connected to the repeater only work workarounds I found 1. static ip, 2. setup DHCP on the repeater too.
and I hate both
did you made any progress on this ?

Static IP is the only work around I found for this to work, my laptop though connects to the repeater with out issues and the need for static IP. Same issue with the Galaxy tab7.7 Im guessing this could be an andriod/samsung issue.
There is a known issue with some Samsung Android phones, including Note, failing to support BSSID roaming. That is were the wifi device hands over between separate APs with the same SSID.
More info here: http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=12649
You could set your repeater to use a different SSID, if supported. I have had success with BSSID roaming when using Imilka's CM9 build for the Note.
Hope that helps.

Chromecast Not Connecting to Comcast Modem

I have a Chromecast that will not make a connection to WiFi. You can see it on the network, but when going through the final steps I am told that it cannot communicate with the Chromecast and it times out. Can anyone provide some suggestions?
I am using modem for business class.
You may have tried this already, but did you try power cycling the modem?
Yes, tried everything!
is it possible to turn off AP isolation?
Something that may or may not apply to your situation but should be noted...
Comcast is currently (in some areas) running two Wireless Networks off the router they give you for your home service.
One is for their Public WiFi use (which I believe requires a Comcast login)
and the other for your own local network use.
Is it possible that you are trying to connect to the public SSID and not the local?
Do you see two different SSIDs available?
Otherwise the best suggestion is to call Comcast and let them walk you through it.
I personally never allow my ISP to control my wireless or router and insist they put their equipment into Bridge mode.
If you are having problems just connecting I can't imagine what kind of other issues you are going to face with settings needed for a good CCast experience.

Yes and also glad I have my own router with it's own security system so that the Modem the public might be connecting to can't possibly make a connection to the local network without a proper router priv.
One of the reasons why I always suggest people do not use the ISP router as their own and insist the ISP put it into Bridge mode so the only way anyone can possibly get a local IP is by going through my routers own security.
I have the xfinitywifi disabled on mine and changed a majority of the default settings.

Anything related to...
AP Isolation (should be off)
Multicast (needs to allow multicast, but the on/off state depends on the exact setting)
IGMP (depends on the exact setting)
?
I'm not having any issues... but I did find this:
I couldnt really find anything regarding AP Isolation, But I know by default ICMP and Multicast are blocked. Theses need unchecked.
Gateway>Firewall>Custom Security
Uncheck 'Block ICMP' and Uncheck 'Block Multicast'
Edit: Setting the firewall to Low Security will also enable ICMP and Multicast

Thank Thad
Here's how I got mine Chromecast to work after getting the "cannot communicate with Chromecast" error on the final step of setup:
Called Thad with Xfinity Customer Service, and he found a fix. Tell your support agent to
Factory reset the modem
Set security of the modem to WPA2AES
Enable UPnP and set the time to 30
Set hops (scale of 1 to 5) to 5
Enable Zero config
After resetting your Chromecast and going through setup, it should begin to work.
Chromecast
So you don't need to even call comcast for this and it'll save you time because they really just don't know.
Go to 10.1.10.1/ on your browser. The User is : Cusadmin and the pass word is: Highspeed. It may change on your region but comcast will give you that info.
On the left menu Click advanced, then under device discovery on the left you will find all the settings you need.
as twill said UPnP enabled. Advertisement period set to 30. Time to live/ hops 5 and zero config enabled

Solution for ChromeCast without internet connection

Hello,
I want to show a dashboard on the tv in my company. The app is ready and it works fine ( checked it at home) but through the network policies in the company it is not possible to give the chromecast internet access. Is there a work around for the App id check ? The webserver is installed locally . The Cast should only show a website form the server.
Maybe it would be great if there is a solution without rooting it, but with a good guide it would also be possible.
Is there a way to manipulate the Google DNS ?
Greets,
Sissie
I have not seen a work around. I have seen this same question posted several times. I travel alot for work and when I'm in the hotels, I use my phone as a Hotspot to get my Chromecast to work. That is an option.
Note 4 using Taptalk
Thats one point but is their a way to switch the call of the chromecast to his "start"screen in the router to a local "manipulated" website ?

If you have a phone with hotspot you could turn it on, connect the Chromecast to it, start up a cast and right after that, turn off your data so it doesn't eat up your data plan and you're all set. Hope this helps!

This needs Internet anyway, even if for a short time
I wonder if this can instead be done this way, with a rooted phone acting as tethered wifi hotspot:
- set CC to connect to the tethered wifi network on the rooted Phone (explained elsewhere)
- set the rooted phone to manipulate iptables (but how'? block? redirect to what?) DNS request to 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 coming from the CC
This shouldn't need internet at all.
